Between the guitarist pretending to play the riffs to Mikky singing over a recorded track, I left early.

Wow, Wow, Wow. I was so ecstatic that I was able to go to see Mikky Ekko & Transviolet at the RecordBar in Kansas City. The venue is small and intimate. The sound was very good in person, but did not translate as well on video, but both acts killed it! Transviolet, his opener is a new group. Backed by a female lead singer who reminds me of Halsey and Sky Ferreira. Good catchy songs, but her vocals were a bit drowned out by the instruments, but I wish the crowd would have been more into it and stood up for them. By the time Mikky came on, the crowd was growing, and nearing the stage. He had about an hour and fifteen minute set with 14 songs. Backed by a guitarist, drummer, and keyboard/sampler, his live music replicates his studio versions extremely well while adding extra intensity and energy, and his voice is phenomenal, with incredible range and some stunning vocal runs, and his stage presence just radiates throughout the room. From jamming alongside his musicians, to dancing/stomping, to singing directly to fans while holding their hand, he's one of the more personable and affectionate artists I've seen live. My friend was one of the girls who got to hold his hand. You really feel him giving a piece of his heart during the performance. When he began "Stay", he called to his bandmates, "I'm gonna do it", and then proceeded to step down off the stage and join us in the front row to sing the song. He asked that we all sing along. And there was very little light, but you could just feel the power through the song even though you couldn't see him unless you were lucky enough to be in the small circle around him, but it was so beautiful to hear several hundred strangers sing along and share a magical moment with him. Of course meeting him was one of the best moments. He was very nice and tall! And he shook my hand and then asked if I was at last K.C. show cause I looked familiar. I wasn't but he did answer me on Instagram so I told him that could've been why. I got a picture and signed vinyl and when he asked my name I said it and spelled it, he said, "Sorry, can you spell it again, I don't wanna fuck this up!" It was a cool & funny moment. I love an artist who's completely authentic and unfiltered! And I heard his drink order as I was about to walk away. He asked for a beer and shot of tequila! And I was like "my kinda guy" and he smiled and shook my hand again. Overall, I cannot recommend seeing him enough. It is literally the best bang for your buck at 15-20 dollars a ticket! And from what I've seen, that bargain won't last long, cause Mikky Ekko is just going to get bigger and better!

Excellent excellent excellent! We saw him last year in St. Louis supporting Haerts, and he and his band were fabulous then, enough to make us keep track of him and make sure we could get to his next show in the area. They are absolutely astounding now. He is incredibly energetic, and I think his clothes were soaked through with sweat about halfway through the set, while delivering those gorgeous, soaring songs. His range is unbelievable, and so impressive to see live because he is just so spot on. Do yourself a favor and get acquainted with his music. He is so talented and his live show will blow you away. He seems so comfortable performing, seems to have loosened up some and become more animated, which is neither here nor there for me, because the music is really what I'm more interested in, but it was nice to see him unabashedly smiling and having a great time.
