Upon arriving at the venue and waiting in the "line", meeting a bunch o' new folk, up walks the headliner, thanking all for coming. After getting our deli ticket, enjoyed the happy hour again meeting more new folk. Absolute great dinner served in a timely manor, finishing in plenty of time to enjoy the performance. Raul Malo started on time and gave a non-stop 2+ hrs of pure vocal and guitar greatness. All types of song new and old, with humor and audience interaction. Best performance seen in a long time and will definitely return when he has another performance at Birchmere. Thank you for providing this type of live entertainment.

Perfect voice! I can't imagine anything that would have made this show any better. Michael, his accordian player, was amazing! My wife said this may have ruined future concerts...and I think she's right. I don't see how this show could be topped.....maybe the next time I see Raul.

Raul's voice overrides the subpar venue. We came very early, so we could get seats for dinner, and be able to watch the show. Hardrock Cafe secretly reserved every table for other people. We had to eat at the bar, and get inundated by patrons ordering drinks. Raul fills much bigger venues, so the place was overrun. Luckily, once he started singing, his art took over.

What a fantastic singer he is. The show was low key... just Raul, a guitar, and an accordion player. But what an accordion player! Raul was in fine voice, and very loose. It was clear he was having fun. I LOVE this venue... Showcase Live. Arrive an hour early, have a little something to eat (good food and reasonable prices) and then relax and enjoy the show. A great, great night out.

This was his best show ever! I saw him twice when he was with the Maveric's, then once at the Paradise in Boston and this was the third time at Showcase Live at Patriot Place, Foxboro which, in my opinion, is the best venue. Very intimate. Usually he has a band with him. This time, he was accompanied by a fantastic musician that plays a mean accordian. I know, "accordian" you say? Yes, that was my first thought too when Michael started playing but it didn't take me long to realize what fantastic music he could make with his fast fingering on the intrument. I've always thought that Raul should be a one man show with his beatitiful voice & fantastic guiter playing but having Michael accompany him just made it all the better.

Let me start out that I can't stand country music. I believe however what Raul does is simply fantastic. The accordion player rocks and Raul can play a mean guitar. That voice, that unforgettable voice that reminded me of Roy Orbison. Then to close the show he sings one of his songs? It was magical. Bravo!!!! After the show he came to greet his friends and took pictures and signed autographs. No concert I ever went to I've seen this. Raul, you're my new hero.

An amazing voice--think of a Latin Roy Orbison--and a down-to-earth, muy amable stage presence combine to make for an unforgettable performance. At Blueberry Hill's Duck Room, every seat in the house is up close and personal, so you can almost reach out and touch the performers (and, in fact, we were able to shake Malo's hand at the end of his encore). If you get the chance to catch Malo's performance, you'll also get to enjoy his phenomenal accordian playing sidekick--who knew an accordian could even be phenomenal???

St. Louis, ...One of the greatest voices you will hear in pop music! This was our second time seeing/hearinfg Raul and he and his partner on accordian were fantastic. Plenty of Mavericks hits as well as tunes from his solo projects. They opened with a great version of "Lucky One", one of my favorites but with a new spin. Both times we have seen Raul he displays an amazing voice, wonderful guitar parts, and enjoyable stage presence....don't miss this show!

I believe Raul Malo has the most beautiful voice of our time. You cannot go wrong seeing him in person. His musicality on the guitar is equally as great. I loved his acoustic show. His accompanyment by an accordianist was just perfect.

Not only is Raul Malo a great guitarist and vocalist, but he also knows how to interact with his audience, with good conversation and a great sense of humor! Listening to him was a joy, and his four song encore was generous in length, but the time passed much too quickly. Raul's sidekick on accordian, Michael, was a great instrumentalist in his own right, and posessed a very good voice...he may be good enough to venture out on his own.

Fortunately we were up close for Raul. His voice is rich and his pitch and range was amazing. Quite the whistler as well. It takes allot of confidence to walk on stage with a mic and an acoustic guitar. I enjoyed the Mavericks songs but I did miss the horns and the backbeat of a band. I do have an issue with the venue management and their selection of a warmup. Attractive gal with good stage presence but an annoying voice. Her lyrics were better served in a childrens show. Not my cup of tea.

For anyone who simply loves Raul's voice you should not miss this event. To be clear, this is not for you if what you want is the rockin dance party that is a Mavericks concert. But if you simply want to enjoy an acoustic show that puts Raul's vocal gifts on full display then you will love the show. It doesn't hurt that he is quite charming and entertaining in the bargain. It was a great show, well worth going to!

Raul Malo was simply mesmerizing, but he was also warm and engaging between songs. Because he had an opening act, he did not take the stage until about 8:15, but as the "normal" house quitting time arrived, he was still going strong, and played several more songs and earned a standing ovation. My only complaint was with the table next to mine that NEVER SHUT UP, even when Raul was playing very softly. Two drunk men in particular were finally escorted out, but should have been tossed much much earlier. For me, it ruined the show. I blame that on the Birchmere for not jumping to action sooner.

This was the first time I had seen Raul do a solo show and it was terrific! I'm used to seeing him with The Mavericks which is very high energy and non-stop. Fantastic performance! Malo was very personable, he came outside of the venue prior to the show to greet those of us standing in line, and you felt as if he was your best friend while he was on stage. Completely solo, just his guitar and a piano, he worked his way through a two hour set of standards and some surprises with ease. When you hear his voice on record you figure it must take multiple tries to get it right but his live performance seemed effortless and his vocal quality was amazing.

Raul Malo is an awesome singer. Voice is incredible. He is one of my favorites. However, entertainers sharing political views during a paid concert is extremely annoying and an absolute turnoff. Very disappointing. Totally set the wrong tone for us.

Having always loved the Mavericks, and their shows, we weren't sure how much of that Mavericks "vibe" came from Malo or the band -- and what his solo show would be like. It was great!. It felt like we were sitting around someone's living room with him telling stories and singing (with hundreds of friends strong drinks and marginal bar food.) He shared enough personal information to make the songs more interesting, and has a wacky sense of humor. There is no lack of ego either, but you can't blame someone with that kind of talent, vision and voice to be humble.

Raul Malo never disappoints. This was a stripped-down performance absent his usual band and with only an additional guitarist to accompany him. Such a simple set-up provides the perfect showcase for Raul's fabulous range of voice. His upbeat numbers are a rollicking good time and his ballads have the capacity to move one to tears. In the context of today's singers, Raul Malo is a unique talent who stands head and shoulders above the crowd.

Once again, the multi-talented Raul Malo delivered the real goods! Great voice, accomplished musician, sensational band, and eclectic mix of music made for an invigorating and lively evening of entertainment. Billed as his Christmas show and performed in a smaller, intimate venue, this concert was a great way to kick-off the holiday season. Nice pacing of up tempo numbers with ballads. The highlight for me this time was Raul's salute to the U.S. troops with his story about an incident in the San Antonio airport and his acoustical rendition of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" that he dedicated to the troops. One of the best concerts I have attended in a looooong time. If you enjoy good music, Raul Malo is a must-see!

Opening act Jimmy Webb amused and entertained with his vast catalog of songs spanning decades, and stories to go with some of them. It was surprising to realize how many of his songs, and their different genres, we've grown up with. His set was about 1/2 hour too long; we were really restless by the time MacArthur Park ground to a halt. 20 minutes later, Raul and the gang cranked up and let go. From the moment he opened his mouth and that phenomenal voice poured out, we knew we were in for a wonderful ride. A stellar band, tight arrangements and one beautiful tune after another contributed to a memorable concert. I wish they'd made a live recording available for purchase; I'd love to share our great time with others! So glad we made the effort to drive up for the evening.

We were at Birchmere to see Raul Malo. We enjoyed Jimmy Webb, who was the opener, but he went on too long. It was so late that we had to leave the show earlier than we planned. But we really went to see Raul Malo, so we were a little disappointed that Mr. Webb went on for about 2 hours! Also, while we like the music, I would have say that it was way too loud which also diminished our enjoyment.

Although Jimmy Webb may be a terrific songwriter, his performance seemed to drag on and his piano accompanyments were just too much. He provided too much comment for my liking. Raul Malo and his fellow band members were as good, if not better, than their performance at the Birchmere last year. My wife and I have seen him multiple times back in the Detroit area and now in Alexandria. His performance and voice seems to improve as the night goes on. We will see him again.

The music is fun to listen to, his voice is one of the most beautiful in the music business, and his group is very talented. Can hardly wait till he is in the area again. YES! YES! YES! NO! NO! NO! Loved Raul Malo and would definitely see him again. Jimmy Webb was interesting to connect with, but a little long and an unusual opener owner for Raul Malo. But I was glad to hear his songs and see an amazing songwriter. I remember a lot of his stuff very well. The birchmere is an incredible intimate venue which my husband and I love. Raul continues to entertain his audience....HE'S THE BEST! Unfortunately, his opening act was not. Although obviously a talented song writer....Jimmy Webb is not a singer. After over 90 minutes of admittedly legendary Jimmy Webb's name-dropping and mediocre voice, thank goodness Raul Malo once again was in fine form. While the sound system didn't do him justice during the rockier songs, on the ballads Malo's golden voice was as good as ever. The louder songs were fantastic in energy, his band was superb, and the addition of an accordion was wonderful. See Malo whenever you can!

In general, we enjoyed the performance but were disappointed with a couple of things. His voice is still great but he didn't sing any of the old ballads that he was so good at. Maybe we're too old but most of the songs were too loud or too fast. When the guy smiled, it brought a smile to our faces but most of the time it looked like he was going through the motions, waiting to get the show over with. The band behind him was very good, especially the trumpet player and accordianist. We saw him many years ago with the Mavericks. Too bad he didn't sing more of those kinds of songs.

I have been a huge Raul Malo fan. I see him everytime he plays at the Birchmere. This time, something was amiss. First off, the warm up band did nothing to warm up the audience. If anything, Shannon Whitmore's band, while vocally good, put the audience to sleep. She never made good on her promise to liven things up. Then Raul's band was so loud, it overpowered his amazing voice. Whoever miked the instruments allowed the accordion and trumpet to totally drown out Raul and the vocals. And Raul's mike actually made him sound shrill! On top of that, Raul usually banters with the audience, which is always fun. Not so much this time. I love his voice, but was very disappointed with this show, but I will still go back to see him again.

What a voice! What a band! The trumpet is a great touch. First noticed Raul with the Mavericks. He continues to excel. The Rodney Crowell tune was superb. Raul has fun at what he does and it shows. Appreciative crowd as they should be. Will go see him again in a heartbeat. He continues to provide new and interesting material.

Can you see Raul Malo too many times? NO - and I ask myself that question every time I buy the tickets. Yet on show night .... magical! His voice was perfect this week and the band tight as ever. The band is friendly with the concert goers after the show - makes us all feel special. I always get stuff signed for presents for friends.

When Raul Malo puts on a show, he really puts on a show. He is amazing! He goes from one song to another, rock, ballad, in Spanish...and always with that adorable smile on his face! His band is also amazing. I never miss Raul when he is at the Birchmere.
