JMC played almost two hours of their best spanning the whole catolog with some they hadn t played in over a decade. They sounded great. I got lost in a trance of sweet overdrive fuzz and wahwah!

I love the Jesus & Mary Chain. Wish I loved this show. The first 6 or 7 songs held promise but around Sidewalkin' things went downhill. Early sloppiness turned into awkward song endings, out-of-tune guitars, stops and starts...and a show by a band that looked like they got back together the week before and were regretting it. In the 80's it was cool to show disdain for the audience...refreshing even...(playing with their backs to the audience!) but the disinterest they seemed to have in their own performance was just plain embarrassing. Times have changed. Sometimes you just can't go back...even if the songs are still great. I left the club thinking that a dedicated cover band would have been more fun!

nothing ground-breaking, but that's not why I see my old favorites. I want to hear the songs the way I remember them in my head. Good selection, good sound. I like the band, and I like the Paradise, so it's an easy sell.

My hopes weren't too high for this show b/c I hadn't seen JAMC in forever; but I was blown away. They still got it, and then some. One of the best shows I've seen in a long time. The opening band was also pretty stellar. I hadn't heard of them before, but it was 100% pure rock. Loved it.

Played a nice selection of songs from their better material. Seemed to be enjoying themselves as were the fans. Loud and solid delivery on Snakedriver and Head On to start things off. Well worth the investment and a good club to view and hear.

The sound was outstanding, the song selection excellent (except Munki drew the short straw it would seem) and the mopey, low-fidelity JMC sound was out in full force. The sold-out Phoenix is a great venue for such a band as well. So all in all a great show and well worth seeing. So why only four stars? They looked tired, were a bit too sloppy at times (though never for too long) and played a disappointingly short set suited to a festival, not a headliner with a catalog of their size.

I was excited to see The Jesus and Mary Chain at a free outdoors concert put on by the city of Buffalo, NY, but by the fourth song I wished they had stopped playing, and I even contemplated leaving. The guitar feedback and distortion was so overpowering that they drowned out every other instrument except the drums, and the feedback was so high-pitched that it grated the teeth. In between songs, the feedback constantly screeched to where you could not hear Jim Reid talking to the crowd. At first I thought it was a soundboard engineer oversight, but after they kept playing this way and after Jim walked up and held his mic to the amplifier I started to get the feeling that either they are horrible live or they have something against playing that venue and purposefully wanted to put on an awful show. Jim brought up a female friend to duet on "Just Like Honey," but the the feedback and distortion were so bad that you could not hear a word she sang, nor anything Jim sang either. Aside from the atrocious sound quality and the band's refusal or inability to adjust the situation, Jim stopped the band mid-song on three separate songs announcing "I f'd up" or "We just suck" before commanding everyone to start over again as if they were in practice. The drummer appears to be a recent replacement for Loz Colbert--I'm not sure if permanently or just for this gig--and he did a standup job above all the other members. However, on one song he had the tempo too slow, and Jim proceeded to ridicule him onstage verbally and with gestures. Toward the end of their set, he asked the crowd how we would rate the band's performance and immediately answered his own question by saying, "a 6 but probably a 5." He was too optimistic with even a 5; I have heard elementary school orchestras sound better than The Jesus and Mary Chain on this night. The entire night, Jim was out of voice and mostly mumbled, although he would have probably been better heard without the overpowering feedback/distortion. In his prime, Jim might have been able to get away with acting like a prima donna, but this night he had no talent to justify it, and his performance and attitude made him look like a fool when he criticized the drummer and the band as a whole when he was the worst musician of them all and the one continually stopping the performance. To end the night, during their last song (I don't even know what they were trying to play it was such a cacophony) Jim once again stopped the band and claimed that he "F'd up again." The feedback and distortion on this particular song were so bad and so loud that when he stopped the song the crowd began cheering even before he spoke. This apparently irritated him like old times because he said a few choice words to some audience members. The best part of the entire concert was when it was over, and this comes from a person who grew up listening to them and still does, but just never again live. Bottom Line: I would not pay one cent to see them, and even at a free event it was a waste of time and only hurt my opinion of them as musicians. I am astonished that they can even get booked at venues playing like this, and I cannot believe people are buying $60+ tickets to see them. Maybe they were having an off night, but that does not explain the horrible sound quality. I recommend people save their money for a better show and remember The Jesus and Mary Chain of old rather than harming your ears and opinions with their latest tour.

Truly breathtaking. All the favorites were played (of course). HOB San Diego is a relatively small venue, so pretty intimate. The band oozed charisma, power, and sweet, sweet music. The vibrations from the music were so great that they not only shook my bones, but made my beverage vibrate off the bar top!! So, don't miss The Jesus & Mary Chain if you get a chance!! Also special thanks and notes to others that the HOB San Diego goes out of its way to please it's patrons. In my case, they went beyond the extra mile to accomodate some disabilities. They were amazingly helpful, including providing great seating. Kudos to the HOB San Diego!!

As a Goth DJ residing in Las Vegas, I must sadly admit I've never been especially fond of the majority of their work. I've just never cared for the incessant sound of continued feedback. But every once in a while a diamond sparkles beneath the rubble. These songs include "Just Like Honey" and "Head On." These were the reasons I went to the concert. "Just Like Honey" was incredible; my friend and I danced the entire time. But I was surprised when they failed to play "Head On," which I consider their ultimate song. This is why I give 3 instead of 4 stars.

My friends and I all agreed it was a pretty disappointing show. The music was too quiet, too neat, and too fast. It was clear that they had practiced a lot to prepare for the show, but the music lost a lot of its appeal when we could hear every distinct note and every lyric. There was no mood at all -- if the band had played just a tiny bit slower, they could have saved their set. They had to start over on three songs.

Been waiting 25 years to see the JAMC, and the sound at the Vogue killed the experience for me. Band's performance was fine, but the guitars (specifically William's lead guitars) were completely obliterated by over-amped drums. When you go see a guitar band, known for its wall of guitar sound, you expect to hear some guitars. As it was, we had to strain to hear solos, and got headaches from the drum noise. Too bad; hopefully they will tour again, and at a different venue. Or at least with someone else running the soundboard.

i must say i have seen them 8 times now going waaaaaaaaay back, i saw them in toronto and they were working on busting the rust off. last saturdays show was detroit rock city worthy, they blew the roof off with a performance on par with the last time they played the state theatre, now the paladium. the song choice was fantastic, and as a HUGE fan, i could not have asked for more. on a side note buy the poster, its a signed numbered lythograph that is a real work of art.

I saw the Jesus & Mary Chain at the Channel a couple times in the 80's, the songs were great but the performances, while intense, were not always well played. This show was the same. About 70% of the songs were done great, but about 30% were off, either rythmically or for some other reason. BUT, these guys believe in what they do, and I think they are right about what rock 'n' roll is, and that's the point, isn't it.

Having been a fan for 24 years I was overjoyed to see them again - but I had tempered my expectations knowing they had not toured in some time and that they were moody and sometimes just don't try very hard. This show was shockingly good. When a band is great it comes through and the JAMC still have the power and presence that many bands could only hope to attain. They were loud and Jim's voice had more power and range than I expected. Jim looked uncomfortable as always but was casual if there was a mistake and thanked the crowd often. More importantly he and William seemed to be getting along and having a good time. During the encore Jim says 'we are going to play some songs from Psychocandy and then get the hell out of here' and they proceed to rip through Hardest Walk, Taste of Cindy and Never Understand. It was like a time portal. They played those songs so powerfully and the guitars were all kinds of noise and feedback. It was as though time stood still for 15 minutes and everyone was 25 again. Amazing.

Great show to start off their North American Tour. A few mistakes (even admittedly by Jim) were fun and gave a sense of intamacy and comfortable-ness by the band. Every song they played were one of my favorites. I was even happy that they played the new song off the "Heroes" soundtriack from a couple years ago. My only dissapointment was they didn't play "April Skies". Go see them!

I have seen the JAMC before. This was their Best. They came out of the gate like a raging bull and blew the Stars Out of the Sky with one great hit after another. Everyone in the crowd was dancing and going crazy. Then they transitioned into some of their newer songs from Damage and Joy such as Mood Rider and Always Sad. Solid songs. The JAMC then went deep into their archives halfway through the show and performed some hits from Psychocandy and Darklands. These were well received and took me back in time to a dark and moody 1989. The JAMC wrapped up a high energy show with a feedback psychedelic extravaganza full of flashing strobe and dry ice. It's was an awesome experience. I have seen the JAMC before, but never like this really. They were just so passionate and wild and enthusiastic. If you have a chance to see them. Go. Get your ass off the sofa. Shut off the Netflix and go see some awesome live Rock and Roll.

The Brothers Reid, aka, The Jesus And Mary Chain, rocked the joint! The band was tight, and the set list was all their top speed hits, including a couple new hits from their new record. It was a memorable night elegantly capped off with a free JAMC poster handed out at the exit door. One gripe: the ultra bright LED strobe lights flashed from the stage into the audiences faces was overdone. Back off on the blinding lights so the audience can focus more on the music.

The Reid Brothers, along with their three merry sidemen, played fuzzed out JAMC jams behind their typical wall of smoke. Jim Reid up front, all the rest backing him up, with William on the right. Not much to look at, never very dynamic. But great Jesus & Mary Chain tunes.

But I wish I could say the same of a couple of concert-goers. I get enthusiasm, a little singing, a little dancing, a few pics, maybe a short video, maybe an exchange of words between songs, or even a hushed comment during the songs. Fine. Enjoy yourselves. However, if you want to talk/shout over the music non-stop, like you're in a bar and you don't give a shit what's on the sound system, or like it's your own living room and you can replay your Netflix any time you want, maybe consider that other people are there to enjoy the show as opposed to hearing your loud mouths punctuating every moment. Go talk in the back, go into the lobby or maybe leave the venue altogether because obviously you aren't there to watch the show. JAMC were very good. It was nice hearing the new songs and a great variety of favorites and a couple deep cuts from most of their career. They played well and feel like they're back in a groove.

JAMC is one of my all-time most favorite bands and have been so since the early 90's. I saw them in '95 at SDSU with Mazzy Star. They gave a rock solid perfomance, absolutely impressive. William's guitar was awsome and innovative as always. Jim's lyrics were true to form. The band was tight and truly delivered. Outstanding concert!!!!!

Such an amazing night at The Masquerade, the first time I was at their new venue for a show, and a sold out one at that. I was lucky enough to be right upfront and just a bit right of center for this show. They played an almost greatest hits song list of classic material, nothing new, but still an amazing performance with a lot of energy. Can't wait for the new album and hopefully another tour of the US to support it.

First time I've heard a band start a song over four times. Poor lighting (purple swirling lights for an hour plus), could not hear the singer when he was not singing at top volume, just really disappointed. Imagine Just Like Honey with only the female voice, that's exactly how it was. I can't figure out if this was the Masquerade's issue with sound and lighting or the band's insistence on being neither seen nor heard.

jim and William have the most underrated band ever imo, their albums are non derivative gold and have paved the way for so many bands with a tenth of the talent its literally innumerable. psycocandy is my least favorite of all their albums that said still a fantastic recollection of that album. with the mini bonus set containing head on and a few other masterpieces. its a dream I know but if they continued on with the idea of touring albums I would be in heavan and may hit the road to follow shows containing darklands, barbed wire, automatic, honeys dead, sound of speed, stoned and dethroned, hate rock and roll, and munki. I mean jesus! look at that list of pure quality music that goes so far past anything today, its a body of work that has very few rivals. if you haven't seen them don't miss a chance, its life altering, at least it was for me starting with darklands.

I jumped at the chance to see the Jesus and Mary Chain for the first time in over 20 years, and wasn't disappointed. They did a greatest hits review, which was to be expected, as they didn't have a new album out. William is still able to ring out those chords from his guitar that I love so well, and Jim's voice hasn't changed. The backing band was talented, yet unintrusive. It was one of the better shows that I've seen them give, and my only complaint was that it wasn't long enough!

It was twenty years ago last month that I last saw JAMC; on the second annual Lollapalooza....and while hair was grayer and stomachs were a little bigger....they still brought on a good show. Some parts were sloppy and slow, but others were fast and tight. Despite the venue having the A/C and fans cranked up so much it felt like an icebox - and for some odd reason smelling like chlorine, I would go back; nice area in the Broad Ripple area of Indy.....

...despite some feedback and a couple of "do overs" they still sounded great. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to see them at the Paradise which is always a great place for a show. Loud, but good! What I didn't like? There were 2 opening bands. Both were ok if it was one or the other, but combined, it was just too much.

toronto, packed show showed a little rustyness from the last decade but railed on their fantastic song list. they should order the songs with a few slow jams in there rather than just railing the whole show. the slow stuff off like stoned and dethroned is beautiful and would give the band a little rest to fire off the fast stuff. over all fantastic show. they are coming to my home town tomorrow, detroit rock city and i hope they have fun and tear up st andrews hall. ill be front row with 20 friends helping jim with the lyrics and cheering on bill to do that voodoo that he do so well.
