This was an outstanding performance by the entire cast! The story and music were brilliantly interwoven! I highly recommend this to anyone who likes music from the 60's, 70s, etc. as well as American classic songs in general. I can't wait for it to come back to town so I can see it again!

If you grew up with music from the 60s and 70s, you will love this play and hearing all the great music that these four musicians wrote. And if you can still envision Carole King's Tapestry album sitting in your bedroom, you will find the story arc of this play quite amazing. We saw it on opening night, and the cast reveived a well-deserved standing ovation.

Abbey Mueller gives a stand-out performance as Carole King in this touring production of "Beautiful". The rest of the cast is absolutely outstanding as well; this is a play not soon forgotten! Watching Abbey/Carole compose/sing/perform her songs in the context of her life is fascinating and when some of the groups that she composed for morph onto the stage, it is rioutously great singing and choreography. We just got back from NYC and 5 plays on Broadway; this one play was better than the five we saw (nearly all Tony winners!)

I don't know how useful this review will be because as far as I could tell everyone that walked out of the play was on a Carol King high. Our adult children who didn't even "know" Carol King's music were floating on air. Great play. I can't wait to see it again. I have never said that about another play.

This was a feel good event which provided the back story on the development of all the songs we loved in the 60's and 70's -the cast was great, the venue was very nice however long lines at the women's bathroom. My guess is that 70% of the audience was female. I loved the musical performances. I had hoped that the story would have included more on the Tapestry album and here time in California.

We were totally, totally blown away by the amazing vocal range of Sarah Bockel as Carole King and how she physically transformed her from a precocious teenager to a wizened adult. The staging was outstanding, appropriate to the time frame, and the costuming and quick changes simply floored the four of us. We had first-row seats in the dressing circle so we had a great view of the entire stage. Every single person I know who has seen this has had the same response, simply outstanding all around.

I didn t know very much about Carole King s early career, so I had no idea what to expect. This show taught me a lot about songs that I love, and offered a glimpse into the changing pop music scene of the 1960 s-early 70 s. It also made me think more about the writers behind our most beloved songs. Finally, I loved how King s actual life became a metaphor for how all of us, at some point or another, need to find our own voices and sing our own songs. I saw this show with a group of girlfriends and we all loved it! Highly recommend!

Not knowing the full story of Carol King, it is amazing to learn the scope, skill, and extent of her talent and success. The story spans over 10 years before we even see the start of her Tapestry. The story is told in a way that shows the triumph and tribulation that contributed to the Beautiful artist she is and was.

"Beautiful" is simply a great excuse to sing some simply delightful songs. The narrative was weak; the script pretty lame. But the songs are a blast. It's a shame they felt they had to "Broadwayize" so many of the songs.But the performers were consistently superb singers; most were good actors (weak spots were the actors in the roles of Don Krishner and Carole King's mother). The four leads were excellent.

I lived on Carol King music in high school and college. I loved every song she ever did. What I DIDN'T know was the story of her life and all the music she wrote for other groups. Her talent was endless. After seeing the play, I understand how much her songs were written about the events of her life. I literally wanted to cry when it was over.

All I can say is the talent was spilling off the stage into the audience. You can cover a song or you can try to become the original artist while on stage. The extremely talented cast did this and more- the show was really a show. I am a 65 year old man. A lot of the music was "before my time" and by that I mean maybe 5 or 10 years before. That's a lot when you are young, but most of the songs were still familiar because they were played in the 60's as "golden oldies". I say this was educational because I had no idea that songwriters like Carol King, her then husband and friends were active in the 1950s WAY before she got on the stage herself. After the show I went home and Googled Ms King and everybody. I was shocked at the number of familiar songs they wrote while watching the show, but I was blown away by how many they wrote in total til now. Carol King and her friends are legendary- and in my opinion, so was this performance. All the actors were great. And I just remembered, the music was never too loud. Had a wonderful time, thank you, thank you for doing this!!!

Growing up Tapestry was one album I played to death, but to be honest I didn't know much of or care of the backstory. I was so wrong. Beautiful is chock full of great music (who knew she was do prolific?!), amazing staging, stellar performances, and a touching/empowering message. Abby Mueller, sister of the original Broadway Carol, shines in a role that fits her like a glove. The writers let the music shine and add just enough story to hold it all together. Bravo!

I love Broadway musicals and Beautiful is as good as it gets. Carole King's songwriting career is tastefully presented with tribute groups representing the original artists that made her songs hits. This show commands an encore from the audience. You will leave the theater wanting to see it again. It is as inspirational as it is delightful. Ford's Oriental Theater in Chicago is a glorious venue, great view, fantastic sound, comfortable seats, in an architectural masterpiece.

Everyone of a certain age has a favorite Carole King song...or maybe you didn't even know it was her song!! This play reveals a whole bunch of songs that were written by her but sung by others, until she performed her own songs in the early 70's. It is a night full of wonderful, popular songs from the 60's and early 70's that shaped lives and got us through "stuff". "You've Got a Friend" is a song for the ages! The cast portrays the talent, the hard work, sacrifices, the lives, the friendships, the ups and downs of life...but with song, everything goes by just a little bit better! Great performances by all!

I really enjoyed learning how she started in the business with all the things she went through. She had to grow up very fast and didn't let the things that happened in her marriage and life hold her down. The unfolding of her story really showed her growth as a person and how her confidence grew. The actress playing her did a remarkable job in portraying her. Taking the audience through her teenage upbringings and how she was drawn into the music industry. You re then pulled into the complications and trials that all musicians face when trying to get their name out into the world. Romance begins and aspires new song writes and compositions between Carole and Gerry. The show lets you experience her successes with joy and laughter but also reminds us all that we all have our failures. The audience is captivated by a crumbling love life story and young Carole becoming a single mother. The show demonstrates how music can bring us all out of our hardships by calling to our souls reminding us of the light at the end of the tunnel and that we re all Beautiful. It s amazing to learn of the impact that a single woman had on our music industry across multiple decades and you learn why she is so respected and loved today. You leave the show at the end smiling from a group sing along and feeling the earth shake under your feet . One thought of mind you re left with is -Thank you Carole.

If there was any downside to it, it was the volume of the audio on the night we attended. It was a bit too loud. It was great to hear all my favorite Carole King tunes. totally enjoyed the performance of this musical. cast did a great job with the songs, and the set and costume changes were done seamlessly fitting in at natural times during the show. the musical moved along very well and so many great songs included in the mix. truly enjoyable experience. the Cadillac palace has not been a big favorite of mine. the sound system is not what it could be and the concession lines are totally bad. otherwise a great time.

Always thought Carole King was a great artist - never knew how much music she wrote and for so many people! Whether you are a die hard fan or someone who simply likes the music from 60's and 70's - you will enjoy this.

Fantastic.... Brought back lots of memories , never realized she wrote so many different songs. Sarah, who portrays Carol , her voice amazing. So glad I saw this. Highly recommend it. Made me look and listen to my Tapestry album, which I still have.

This performance was totally entertaining. The actors were excellent. Music was just as I remembered it. There were three of us, we enjoyed this musical better than the overrated Hamilton.

Took my 18 year old daughter. We enjoyed it so much that the following year I took my 17 year old son. He thought it was amazing. Her music is timeless.
