I was not really sure just what to expect and I was slightly apprehensive, I just could not imagine how they could make this concept work (The band playing live, while John Denver was singing on video.) But it was utterly AMAZING!! It is a very well put together show with a lot of wonderful video footage of John Denver!! (Thanks to John Denver's children and his estate!!) The band is just as hot as they were when John was living!! It was simply a fabulous evening ~ I really hated to see it end. I appreciate the guys keeping John's spirit alive ~ they deserve a standing ovation!! They also did a fabulous tribute to the Legendary Jim Horn!! He was already one of my favorites in John's band, and I knew that he was amazing ~ but when they did this tribute to him, I felt like I was just sitting there with my mouth wide open!!!

I took my three elderly relatives and my husband to see this show. I loved John Denver as a kid. I didn't know what to expect . We all loved it. My 83 year old father in law said that was one of the best show he saw in a long time. It was a great present for them.

We'd not heard John Adams before but have been avid John Denver fans for 30 years. This was the most amazing and heartfelt concert to hear Denver's music again sung by someone so enamored with John Denver. Adam's voice in some pieces (like Annie's song) was so like hearing John Denver, it gave us goosebumps and brought tears to our eyes.

Such a great concert~ John & his band are amazing. Kid friendly, amazing voice, sounds so much like John Denver. Michael Martin Murphy joined in a few songs, which was very special...and John Denver's aunt was in the audience- very touching to have her there. It really was an amazing night, great music, stories of John Denver and a great crowd. We will be back next year for sure!!!

My husband and I expected a much better tribute show, talked too much, only sang a handful of John Denver's well known songs, even sang songs that were not ever recorded in North America, teased audience with 2 or 3 of John Denver's most popular songs by singing a couple of lines and then said come back to Red Rocks next year if you want to hear that song by me, very poor tribute to John Denver.

I had never heard John Adams do John Denver, some of his YouTube videos done in Aspen didn't sound that great--but I figured that anyone doing a passible JD tribute in Red Rocks would be worthwhile. I had already seen the previous JD tribute this summer there. John Adams started sort of roughly (I had to delete my video bc it sounded so bad), but did get better. He was positively ethereal in "Whispering Jesse". However, what I wasn't prepared for was his thick Dutch accent, and the apparent inability to pronounce "th"--after all these years of singing American songs! And, it might be different if he pronounced the lyrics properly while singing, but often didn't. When he spoke, it was absurd, especially while proclaiming "tank Gud I'm a country boy". Really? Tributists should realize that the ONLY reason we buy tickets is to hear John Denver's songs, and not to learn about the singer himself. And, for the second time having to endure Michael Murphy, generally messing up the duets, is not what John Denver enthusiasts want--just let us hear JD's voice at RR.

The concert was VERY enjoyable. As I sat and listened with my eyes closed I could hear elements of John Denver coming through very clearly. John Adams performed extremely well. An excellent vocalist. Sitting somewhat close to the stage I thought that the flute volume was set too high and tended to drown out other instruments and vocalists. (I don't recall that John Denver had that much "flute" in the arrangements.) Expecting to hear all of my John Denver favorites I was disappointed that there were many obscure songs included. Some that I had never heard. To me, those songs were not really John Denver. LOVED the young violinist!!! I'll come back next year to hear those songs you promised to play then.

I had high hopes, and they were met. John Adams really does sound like John Denver! He played a lot of the standards and some others not as well known. Overall, a really fun evening!

Saw another performer and John Denver look alike last month at Red Rocks. While John Adams has a distinctive European accent while talking it is seldom heard while singing. John A's vocals and range are very reminiscent of John Denver's. It was. Wry enjoyable. The CO Chamber Orchestra was exquisite!

I saw John Denver (in person) several times during his life (both with the Mitchell Trio and at the start of his solo career), and more recently attended concerts by several John Denver tribute artists, include Roy Rivers, Jim Curry, and now John Adams--all of whom performed at Red Rocks. All were very good, but John Adams' tribute was truly special. Not only was it a beautiful night at Red Rocks, but Adams' voice and phrasing sound very close to the original. He was very knowledgeable about Denver's songs, and appreciative of his song-writing skills. Michael Martin Murphy and the Colorado Chamber Orchestra were added bonus features. Only downer was the seat selection, right in back of the covered sound board in the lower center of the outdoor venue. Those seats shouldn't be sold, since the view is really poor. We moved up several rows and a bit to the side, so we would have a better view of the stage.

John Adams and his band did a fantastic job of honoring John Denver. John Adam's voice is pure and melodious without trying to be exactly like John Denver. Michael Murphy was great also, as were the Native American performers. Their ceremony would have been much appreciated by John Denver. Only complaint is that the show wasn't long enough. We could have listened to them all night!

Unbelievable concert and what a treat when Michael Martin Murphy came out to sing Wildfire - very powerful. If you close your eyes, you are certain its John Denver up there on the stage - amazing how much John Adams sounds like him. Its awesome that John Adams is keeping John Denver's music alive.

I could tell the show had just been in existence for 2 1/2 weeks...there were a few things to work out. Yes, it was nice to see John Denver videos, but I thought the price of tickets was WAY too much for kind of a "home movie" show. It was cool that there were pictures of the band members when they were with John Denver. I don't know what I expected, but I would not pay that much again.

The original back up group including Jim Horn. Played along with old concert footage and interviews. The blend and reminiscences were great. John of course was in his prime ( on video) even though he died tragically in 1997. This was a lot better than a tribute band.

I have enjoyed John Denver's music since I was teen-ager, some 40 years ago. Though I never got to see him perform while he was alive, this tribute concert was the next best thing. I wasn't sure what to expect, with the video clips and the live musicians, but I thought they blended well together. Even my boyfriend, who only went because I asked him to, admitted that he had a good time.

The show was well done. The biggest impact was that there were four orginal band members who played with John Denver. It added to the meaning of the concert, which seemed to go along with the theme John Denver had for his music-meaning, a message, a reason. We did not realize that Jim Horn truly is a legend and so valuable to the music scene for so long. It was a privilege to be part of the experience and excellent musicianship.

John Adams does sound a lot like John Denver - except that his tempos are painfully s - l - o w. We had two children with us who were asking, "Doesn't this song go faster?" with almost every title he performed. I found myself looking at my watch every few minutes. Tickets were pretty pricey considering... That being said, the musicians in the band as well as the chamber orchestra were very skilled, and I enjoyed the Native American group who opened - including the blessing by a chief. You can't complain too terribly much when you're at Red Rocks on a beautiful evening listening to the music of John Denver.

The event was a tribute which was touching, but some of the guests took it way too serious. We were asked to sit down when the energy was high, I felt the event was to be a celebration not a sad event. People took it way to serious! We had fun and the music was great, but people need to realize that it was a celebration of John's music, not something to sit and mourn over. I would rate the music an A+, but the people behind us an F.

For fans of John Denver, the John Adams band is a real treat. The superb musicianship of Adams and his musical entourage performs Denver music in the exact style of John Denver, remaining true to the original works. There was a superb mix of Denver's music from early to late, including the haunting song, Whispering Jessie, from Denver's Australia-only release of Higher Ground. This concert brought back many memories and evoked a range of emotions, including a profound sadness at the too-soon loss of the prolific lyrical talent of Denver, as well as the joy that talent like Adams continues to keep alive the music and poetry of John Denver.

Beautiful evening at Red Rocks, almost enough of a reason to see anyone there. John Adams nailed John Denver the majority of the time. There were hints of his Dutch (?) accent at times. We were a little surprised that he took a 15-20 minute break after singing only about 5 songs. The second set was pretty average in length. He did mostly the favorites, which is what a tribute artist should do since there is nothing new to add to the repertoire, but he did chose a couple of obscure songs. Also, did we really need home grown tomatoes with the plethora of other great ones Denver did.? In the end, it was an entertaining evening and John Adams does a pretty nice job with all of John Denver's songs.

I really enjoyed the entire show. The only thing I might suggest is 2 mellow songs in a row before pulling us out of that mood & into a fast song. John A would play a mellow one & then jump into Country Boy or Grandmas Featherbed & for me at least, I couldn't make that transition that quickly.

If you never had the opportunity to see the real John Denver in concert, I can't think of anyone else who could possibly replace him but John Adams! John is extremely talented in his own right, and that makes the evening even more special. You will NOT leave disappointed...every lyric, every note is spot-on to what you would expect from a John Denver concert. See and hear it for yourself!

I was a HUGE John Denver fan and really miss him! Well, John Adams did him justice last Thursday night and I think John Denver would have been happy with his interpretation. There were times when, if I had closed my eyes, I would have sworn it was John Denver! Also, John Adams is a FUNNY guy! He really kept the audience engaged and entertained.

John Addams guitar and voice were really good, I was impressed about how much he had mastered John Denver songs. - Mr. Addams beautiful guitar work was memorable and beautiful. Michael Murphey on stage just made it TERRIFIC, their voices sound EXCELLENT TOGETHER and an outstanding concert would have been the two of them singing together their own songs plus John Denver.. They should think about shows together! I would be there with all my friends and family!! Just outstanding them singing and playing together! THANK YOU JOHN ADDAMS FOR ALLOWING MR. MURPHEY TO SING WITH YOU- Your guitars were a bit overwhelmed by the orchestra although they were excellent - especially the violinist! You made a very memorable evening for me and my boyfriend. I will be attending more of your concerts and hope you allow Mr. Murphey an invite back. The two of you together sound EXCELLENT. thank you again for the great eveing, Kate A from Shawnee NEXT TIME YOU OWE US WILD MONTANA SKIES.

The concert was the perfect venue at Red Rocks. The only suggestion I would have is that John Adams could play more of John Denver's all time most popular songs. I was very dissapointed when he started two popular songs and said we have to come back next year to hear them. I did not appreciate that and it would keep me from going to another one of John Adams' concerts if it continued.
