Sufjan Stevens

SUFJAN STEVENS IN CONCERT:For the past 15 years, indie folk hero Sufjan Stevens has been an emblem of genre-busting creativity and perpetual sonic reinvention. As his palette has shifted over the years Stevens' painstakingly crafted songs have remained as ambitious ever, employing an ever-growing arsenal of human voices, classical instruments, and electronic textures to achieve epic, spiritual proportions. It's powerful stuff on record, but it takes on entirely new proportions at his wacky, wonderful live shows. Stevens is a creative visionary on multiple fronts, and his awe-inspiring concerts combine state-of-the-art stage design, outré costumes, extensive audience participation, and a talented backing band that often approaches double digits.

Loved the venue and a few of the songs. Overall, a curious theatrical performance and something I will remember - though not attend again. I felt that Sufjan was overdoing the robot voice and after a couple of songs, most of them seemed very similar to each other.

Sufjan made me want to "bear down" with my life! Didn't say a word during the main set, but was quiet casual during encore.

The show was nothing short of amazing. There were several moments throughout the performance that left you in awe. The skill, creativity, lighting, and collective genius onstage leaves you feeling rather humbled. It was a gift, an absolutely unforgettable night.

I understand an artist's need to try new things, but I don't think the artist should subject his loyal followers to a diet wholly comprised of the new efforts. The afterthoughts -- Chicago, John Wayne Gacy, etc. -- were the highlights of the concert for me.

I was extremely excited going into this concert, but did read mixed reviews. But nothing I read beforehand did this concert justice. Sufjan's music is always delightful, but the whole show was so well thought out, and truly lovely. There were moments of both tenderness and intensity, and I loved every moment of it!

This show was amazing! He mostly played songs from his new album, which takes a pretty different direction than his previous work, but I really liked it! The visuals were stunning and were well-integrated with the music, his voice was great, and the new songs themselves were beautiful. Even my boyfriend (not a big Sufjan Stevens fan) loved it!

This was the first Sufjan concert I have been to. I started listening to his music earlier this year and really like his style. I wasn't to keen on his new stuff but the concert was the first time I have heard it but was amazed when he played the last 5 songs from his Illinoise CD. The Piano, Guitar and Banjo were amazing. He needs to get back to the Banjo.

Sufjan put on the most life-altering and magnificently beautiful show I've ever witnessed. The Chicago Theatre was sold out, and Sufjan completely blew the roof off. His setlist was mostly comprised of material from the Age of Adz, and was loud, psychedelic, and essentially incredible. A trippy mixed media show was presented behind the band on a giant screen, aptly visually aiding the music; there was also a screen that retracted every once in a while directly in front of Sufjan, which hosted several equally impressive and aesthetically stunning projections. When Sufjan closed with crowd-pleasers and standards from "Illinoise" (namely Chicago and Casimir Pulaski Day), I was deeply touched by the music's emotional fortitude. This show was the best of my entire life, despite the fact my seat was so far away.

It seems like a lot of people are surprised that Sufjan opened with all the tracks from his new release, Age of Adz, but isn't that what most artists do? Release a record and then tour behind it? I was blown away at how perfect Sufjan's voice is in person (even w/the auto tune) and love the theatrics - backup vocalists/dancers, awesome images on the projection. This was my first time seeing Sufjan live and it was everything I hoped for!

I can't believe that Sufjan played for two-and-a-half hours because it felt like 15 minutes. I was so wrapped up that time just flew! I was sad when it was over. Sufjan is so creative and the only one of his kind. Nothing compares to his energy, artistry, and innovation.

Sufjan is a great entertainer and his enthusiasm and love of music came across loud and clear. However, I wish he had played less of his new album - out just a few days - and more from his other albums. That being said, it was a great show and I'd see him again the next time he's in town. His genius is apparent in everything he does.

Horrible show, played 99% of his new stuff with little to no interest in playing any of his old music. He did encore with 4 of his older songs, but that was it. I sadly did not check out his latest album prior to buying tickets. He's trying to be Mike Snow! Problem... I was expecting singer/songwriter. And that stupid synth mic... Sufjan, stick with what you know!

One of the best concerts I've been to in a long time. Possibly ever. Sufjan is all about extravangance and perfection and gave each person so, so much more than their money's worth. Although the set list was composed almost entirely from his new album "Age of Adz" and his "All Delighted People"EP if you're a true fan you did your homework and listened to these before the show! I thought the sound was better than the recorded version and he is just so darn cute! He and his band were having a fabulous time and the visuals were incredible! I was dancing in my seat most of the concert and when I wasn't it was because he was melting my heart with a slower song. I've been waiting to see Sufjan for years and he absolutely exceeded my expectations in every regard. I'm going to make it a point to try my hardest to see him perform again. Beautiful. Incredible. "Words are futile devices" in explaining how amazing this concert was.

I was not having a good day because at work, and had to get up the next morning at 5AM to travel again for work. Aside to having to wait quite some time before the performances started, they were GREAT! I loved the opening band, and especially the lead singer's voice, so it was a nice surprise when she came back out on stage to sing with Sufjan. He had a nice mix of new stuff, old stuff... and he and his voice are just dreamy! Very very happy- and great venue!

Sufjan was great. Now that that is out of the way we can talk about how god awful the first band was. It made me so uncomfortable to watch them that I considered leaving. The lead singer was dancing around the stage with moves borrowed from Elaine Benes of Seinfeld. Beyond that, the music was really really rough. Transitions didnt make sense, the guitar felt like it was boring into my skull and the vocalist only added to the massive high school talent show headache I developed before they left the stage. This band completely ruined the show for me, feel free to condemn me for that.

He was just so much better live than I had even hoped he would be. He was accompanied by between 6 and 10 people depending on the song, often with a 4 piece horn section (trombone, trumpet, french horn, and alto saxophone). Easily one of the best live acts I've ever seen. I love Sufjan.

Tuesday's show was the first time I'd been able to see Sufjan live after trying to for years. He didn't disappoint as he played many of my favorite songs, yet I'm not entirely sure what to think of his new songs. The songs transition from noise-rock to jam band and back again over the course of about 7-10 minutes. I'll have to give them another listen when they're released. It seemed that the band was having issues with MHW's sound/light setup as there were a lot of long stares into the sound booth and numerous requests to keep the stage brighter. One annoyance: the doors to the venue opened at 7:30 which, in the past, usually meant that the first act goes on at 8 or 8:30. Cryptacize didn't go on until about 9:15.

He played a lot of new material that had an electro-pop vibe, and it was really good - I'm now excited for a new album. He played a lot of the favorites from Illinois and Seven Swans, minus a few that I had hoped for (no Decatur, Predatory Wasp, or my absolute fav, Sister Winter). The horn players were tremendous and the harmonies were gorgeous. Sufjan was fairly shy, but played for a while, about 1 hour and 45 minutes. If you haven't seen him live yet, try to catch him in an intimate venue - Bowery Ballroom was perfect.

One of the greatest things about Sufjan Stevens is how unique his music is. It has so many layers to it, that you can appreciate when listening to his albums but they truly shine when you see them performed live. Most bands have the vocals as their star, but for Sufjan, his vocals only compliment everything that is going on. The band is so multi talented with almost all of the members changing instruments for each song. Sufjan himself didn't talk to the audience a whole lot but when he did his very dry humor was refreshing and funny. I LOVED the show and I would go see him again in a heartbeat.

Sufjan Stevens sings a lot about death and upon starting his first ever Hollywood Bow show he told the crowd he sang a lot about death in 2015, so tonight he was going to sing about living. If you are familar with the Summer shows of 2016 by Sufjan, you would know that the man would be seen as an oddball. Neon colors and ballons come to mind when watching his set to reflect a more fun and strange performance, yet nothing less than captivating. The crowd appreciated the artistic approach by Sufjan and even got up to dance along to "Impossible Soul", "Chicago", and the much welcomed late Prince cover "Kiss". I would love to see Sufjan sing more of his mellow songs next time, but I had one great time witnessing his more upbeat and strange songs that definitely went well with the crowd and the Hollywood Bowl.

In my 30 years on this earth. This was by far the best concert I've ever seen. It was odd to see some older aged folk in the audience leave during Sufjan's set. Simply because they were not expecting such a vibrant and energetic youthful zesty show from him. He successfully and creatively infused his signature Folk sound with modern hip hop/soul/funk flavors. AMAZING!

when an artist says they're working something out on stage, you rarely get the feeling that they're telling the truth, especially when it's something so seemingly elaborate. but knowing sufjan's love of first takes and just the simple fact that his tour morphed from somber performances of the entire album to this cross catalog revery, not to mention the unhinged way it evolved into full on dance party, it's hard not to feel like we may have truly seen the final culmination of years of grief processing. simply the best concert i've seen.

Hearing Sufjan Stevens, one of the most talented folk artists of my generation live at the Ryman Auditorium was multi-dimensional. First off, he played his new album, "Carrie & Lowell", in its entire form, with no pauses. This made me feel like I was seeing them one-on-one. Truly a magical feeling. Then he performed his hits from the past two decades stripped down with banjos, mandolins, and guitars. That is when Sufjan shines more than any other musician I know. Last, but not least, the entire band simply jammed for over fifteen minutes, non-stop, showing their versatility and craftmanship. All in all, Stevens delivered one of the best performances I have ever seen. Totally worth every penny.

This was my first time ever seeing Sufjan Stevens perform, and the experience was unforgettable! Carrie & Lowell is a poignant album, and Sufjan's live performance of the songs is emotional and perfect! I have been wanting to see Sufjan Stevens live for years now and he did not disappoint. Personally, Carrie & Lowell is my favorite album of Sufjan's--and that is saying a lot. I obviously expected an emotional and intimate experience but it was much more than that. He managed to balance quietly haunting, stripped-down tracks (i.e. "Death with Dignity") with more melodically complex, grandiose performances. The lights, harmonies, and backdrops perfectly complimented the setlist. The few spoken words he did share regarding life and death towards the end of the show were beautifully and honestly delivered. He closed with a few older favorites, including "Chicago," which I really appreciated. Sufjan is an absolutely brilliant artist and a beautiful human being (or angel...)...Overall I would say this was probably my favorite musical experience to date.

My girlfriend asked me if I was looking forward to the Sufjan concert. Well, yes and no. I lost my mom to cancer in 2014 and I have listened to this album over and over, always thinking about Mom while listening. So I was looking forward to the live show, but uneasy about being emotional. I had my moments, starting with the first song. But listening to live music through tears, while remembering a loved one is a difficult, but precious experience. I hope nobody has to go through the kind of pain necessary to write an album like this ever again. But I'm thankful that Sufjan was able to put this all together. The show mixed in songs from previous albums as well, and he joked about how so many of the songs he was singing were quite sad. He kept the mood light and we all left with smiles on our faces. Big thanks to Sufjan and all who made this music and tour possible.

Ovens is a beautiful space with great sound, and Sufjan and his band really used the space to the fullest. He made us hold our breath with quiet solo acoustic songs, and then blew us away with loud electronic jams and a wild light show. Very professionally done, jam packed with great songs. I know sufjan fans like to hear sufjan ramble and banter but he didn't talk as much and focused more on the music. Great show!

I'm a huge fan of Carrie and Lowell. Great songwriting. The live set had some good high moments and it sounded good. What made the show less stellar was a pin-drop-quiet auditorium with no engagement or breaking up the quiet here and there. It was too much for two hours. I've been to many acts in the past where they have been seated shows that sound better when the audience is quiet however there are usually moments here and there that 'break it up' a little bit so that it's not too tedious. Also, there were no 'awe' moments with respect to musicianship. It seems like a highly controlled set without skilled musicians showing us anything amazing. What was good was Sujfan is a terrific songwriter with good vocals also and it was great to hear him play so many songs that I really like. I give it a 3/5.

The Sufjan Stevens who performed bore absolutely no resemblance to the regaled singer songwriter whose unique artistic abilities made Illinois one of the best albums of all time. Sufjan Stevens' 11/1/15 concert in Baltimore was a huge letdown. He insisted on playing all, or nearly all, of his current album, "Carrie & Lowell" and spent precious little time on his excellent back catalog. "Carrie & Lowell" is an extended meditation on death and memory, so the time spent on this work created a very down atmosphere, something which Stevens admitted in his brief comments. While he has a lot of songs that have a sad or melancholy take on life and memory, there are enough upbeat works that he could have used to balance the overall emotional tone. Yet instead one of the few older songs he chose to do in his encore set was "John Wayne Gacy, Jr", further adding to the depressing mood. Stevens could have spent more time playing some of his older works, but instead he wasted time on an overly-long, very boring piece with guitars and synthesizers. The final blow was his choice for the last song: Drake's "Hotline Bling." So Sufjan Stevens wants to take what little time he has left with the audience and go out on a high note by showing how cleverly he can make fun of a lesser artist. Kind of pathetic. It was funny for maybe 30 seconds, after that, it felt juvenile and beneath someone who wants to be taken seriously. Memo to Sufjan: You don't elevate yourself as an artist by punching down. Leave the making fun of Drake to high school talent shows. You are better than that. Another note to Sufjan: You aren't the only one who matters in that auditorium. We payed money to see you. If you turn your back on the many, many older songs that got your audience to fall in love with your music in the first place, don't be surprised if your audience turns their back on you. Honestly, it felt like we had doled out cash for the privilege of attending Sufjan Stevens' group therapy session as he mourns his losses--which is what he basically admitted in his comments. Sorry, Sufjan, but if you want to keep your audience, you will have at least consider what your audience is wanting to hear, and balance working out your personal issues with giving some love to your back catalog.

My rating for this show is meant to be an average between my own subjective experience of the show, and my critical appraisal. My companion for the show thought it was brilliant, and so, since I get to rate the show and she doesn't, I'm kind of averaging my rating (2 stars) with hers (5 stars). Sufjan definitely did cool things with lights, textures, and images. Sujfan's last album dealt with his mother's death, and that kind of reflection on sorrow and mortality seemed to be the organizing theme of the show. If that resonates with you, it's an amazing show. My appreciation of his work, though, has a lot to do with the emotional range of his other recent albums, including moods other than mourning. I would never have made a mix c.d. or playlist of all his ethereal dirges--and that's about what the set list was. (He did finish the main set with "Chicago," but by then I was thoroughly gloomed out, and just wanted to be gone.) If I'd had the chance to hear the new album (Carrie and Lowell) before buying tickets, I would have thought twice.

After watching him perform on his Christmas tour show and now his tour after "Carrie & Lowell", I'm convinced that Stevens wants his audience to have a great experience during his live show. He loves his audience and his audience loves him. He is most definitely a great artist but you can tell he prepares for his tour and everything that happens on the stage is meant to make the audience fall even more in love with his music. The lighting, the monologues or any interaction and even the transitions between songs makes it clear that Stevens loves his fans. If you love his music, you are guaranteed to enjoy his live performance even more.

This was my first time to see Sufjan Stevens. I am a big fan of the new album, Carrie & Lowell, and was interested to see how they'd put a spin on its live performance. The way they augmented the music with live percussion and samples/sequencing was excellent. The stage production design was also excellent with the screens in the shape of cathedral windows. It was also interesting to see how much gear there was on stage between laptops, keyboards, sequencers, and pedals. The tunes they played from other albums were great selections paired with the new album material. Of course, closing with "Chicago" was wonderful - it's one of my favorite songs ever. If you're even marginally interested in Sufjan Stevens, I absolutely recommend going to this show.

I was already excited for the night the moment I bought my ticket. I had never heard a bad thing about Sufjan's shows, so I was beyond ecstatic to have gotten a ticket. I can safely say that Sufjan's show at DPAC in NC was the best concert I've ever been to. With incredible artistic prowess, Sufjan and his band captured the audience and made them listen. Every song sounded better live than it did on record, and many of the songs were remixed by the band, in order to be louder and faster. From the first song to the final bow, I was in a trance. I felt like I had seen something very important happen on the stage in front of me. Sufjan Stevens showed me that music Is a sacred art, and that only a few can use it to the best it can be. Sufjan is at the top of that list. it was such a wonderful experience. Also, the opener, Moses Sumney, is fantastic. Check him out

Sufjan's performance was, unsurprisingly, phenomenal. The venue was a little too large for his new album's sound. When the concert took a turn for the unexpected and Mr. Stevens brought the seizure lights show, DAR's bass speakers could barely keep up. Lights were phenomenal though.

I am not a Sufjan super fan. I love his music, but have only been following him in the past 4 years. I am so happy I decided to go to this event. Normally, I go to a concert to be entertained. But a Sufjan Stevens concert is not entertainment, it is meaningful and though provoking. I do not get the impression that Mr. Stevens is ever up there to "be cool" or be an entertainer. He just lays it all out there as an offering in the best way he knows how.

It was artistic. It was musical. It was emotional. Sufjan Stevens led us through his most recent album, Carrie & Lowell, and we could feel the struggles and emotions that were put into the album. Sufjan and the group alternated instruments, showing how talented they are, and they worked together so very well. The harmonies were beautiful. Sufjan's piano and guitar skills were fantastic. The lights and screens guided us through the experience. And by the end of the night, we didn't just feel like we went to a concert, but we felt like we had an experience unlike any other before.

Having been a Sufjan fan since the early 2000s, I can tell you Carrie & Lowell is nothing short of perfection. I knew I had to see him when he came to town. That being said, it's one of the best shows I have ever been to. Rarely do you attend concerts that the entire crowd is quiet in anticipation. Very few people were even on their phones, that is how captivating it was. It's an intimate album and Sufjan made it an intimate show. Home movies streamed on the background alternating with beautiful scenery and complimentary lights. At one point the stage took on the hue of a sunset while a picture of a lake/mountainous region was in the background. It was perfection. If you're contemplating going do yourself a favor and go. You won't regret it.

I've been to many concerts over 30 years and rarely do I leave one being totally blown away, but this one did. Carrie & Lowell is a masterpiece in itself for it's pure emotion, intimacy and musicianship but I wasn't sure how Sufjan could transfer all of these qualities over to a live show. Let me tell you, he did it all and even more! From adding top notch musicians, altering the arrangements on some songs without losing their powerful meaning and feel to the amazing lighting and back drop of home movies, images and colors it all seemed perfect! Added to the overall incredible performance is the venue, The Beacon Theater which acoustically and visually superb and the sound system was equally impressive, going from gentle acoustic sounds to earthquake level bass and drum dynamics! I can't remember a concert as amazing in every way than this one, period.

Sufjan aptly referred to it as a "bipolar Christmas party." Everything from Sufjan-style arrangements of Christmas hymns, whole-audience caroling, and the occasional intimate, acoustic non-Christmas Sufjan hit.

Sufjan was unbelievably great. The set list was perfect for a Christmas sing-a -long. Giving us the lyrics so we could join him in singing Christmas classics was so much fun. Overall, if you get a chance to go to ANY Sufjan concert (Christmas or not) you should do it!

I've been a fan of Sufjan Stevens for around five or six years now, and I have to admit that he has been my favorite artist since I heard the gentle yet heartbreakingly poignant tunes from Michigan and Illinoise. But I have to say that though I got "Age of Adz" when it came out, I wasn't too crazy about it-- I wasn't one of those who whined about the loss of the "old Sufjan" but I have to say I didn't really get it. That is until the live show. The way the Age of Adz translated to stage makes me sorely regret not making more of a concerted effort to see Sufjan live before... the show was literally incredible. From the bewildering/trippy images on the screen to the odd yet evocative dance movements, to the joyous confetti and balloon filled finale, the show left me completely breathless and in a daze, and sparked a real appreciation not only for his new work, but his boundless creativity and his unabashed disregard for the confines of genre and expectation. I can't say that I'm happy that he made us wait five years for his latest album, but I can certainly say that it was worth the wait, and the concert was worth every sense. My only regret is not buying a ticket for his second night in Boston. And yes, he's that good looking in person.

Despite being in the balcony, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Though I was not able to see people on stage as well as I would have liked (that's what I get for taking a chance on the balcony), the sound was great! I was pleasantly surprised by the confetti and balloons, as I'd been watching YouTube videos of the shows along this tour and it seems he saved this fun stuff for us in Boston! Way to make us feel special, Suf! I was disenchanted by the Orpheum Theatre staff who were warning us not to take videos and then they tried to keep us in our seats during the dance numbers, even though Sufjan specifically encouraged people to get up and dance if we wanted. That put a slight damper on things. However by the end, the staff lightened up a bit and seemed to take the hint that we were not to be controlled, so we proceeded to have a grand time dancing and whooping it up! I left feeling super excited for the following night's show since I was holding an Orchestra ticket. :)

Anyone that did not like The Age of Adz merely needs to see Sufjan perform live. I was totally blown away by the majesty of his music and the way he was so earnest with his audience about why it was written. Sufjan Stevens is one of the most underrated musicians of our time.

Sufjan goes to great lengths to ensure that your experience at his show is unlike any other concert you will go to. No matter the venue, it is grander. The entertainment is so thorough, so multi-sensory, you don't want to miss a moment, although there's no way the remember every last wonderful moment.

Sufjan Stevens managed to preform a nearly flawless show, while maintaining a personal connection with the audience. The show consisted of mostly songs of of his new "The Age of Adz" and his EP "All Delighted People". This the only show I've ever seen that focused so keenly on a new album; but this 'all new' setlist was far from a disappointment. Sufjan and his 10 piece band of amazing musicians deftly maneuvered through "Impossible Soul" (a 26 minute song) all while dancing and dodging beach balls that Sufjan himself brought- it was like a party & still very personal. During the quieter songs you could've heard a pin drop. All in all this show exceeded my very high expectations, and solidified Sufjan Stevens (in my mind at least) as one of the greatest and most innovative musicians of our generation.

There are possibly some spoilers in here, but I'll try to keep it pretty basic. I can't really go into too much detail about this show. All I can say is I've seen many bands perform, and this was by far the most entertaining and breathtaking concert I've ever been to. After the first song, Sufjan said hello to the audio and explained "I will be your entertainment for the evening". And that's exactly what he was. The show was almost 2 hours long, with dancers, 2 trombones, 2 drummers, and a gang of other instrumentalists. Sufjan went between his usual devices, the guitar, banjo and piano, but was also at the helm of a sequencer which he used to play cosmic sounds that accompany his newest album. He did this while performing some space age dance moves. At one point he gave a 5 minute essay on a schizophrenic artist named Royal that apparently inspired the new album and then played Vesuvius which he said was a song for Royal. As large as the venue is, it was moments like this that made the show entirely intimate, I won't say much else, all I can say is that I've been saying wow to myself ever since I left the show and probably won't stop for at least a week. Go see Sufjan if you ever have the chance!

great new tour for the Age of Adz album i saw him in 2006 and the production was better. if your expecting on hearing his old hits you might want to wait for another tour. first of all, the opener dm stith was great, started sounding like a sufjan ripoff but then turned into entertainment with looping effects. not the greatest at it, ive seen better even years ago but its still entertaining, he put me to sleep a couple of times but in a good way. basically his set was a terrific power nap and your ready for mister Stevens. the show was full of great story telling, nifty art projections, choreographed dancing, a couple of jokes here and there. the sell out crowd had a good time and up in the balcony and from what i saw on the floor people stood up and danced during the 25 minute performance of Impossible Soul.

I've loved Sufjan for many years now--and this was the first time seeing him in concert. His at times 9 piece band forms a melodic symphony that is definitely like no other. His voice just as beautiful and calm as it is on his albums--and the live twists to his songs make it seem like I'm hearing the songs for the first time again. Excellent show---in my top 10 of all shows I've been to.

I've seen Sufjan a few times and this group project 'thing' called Planetarium was... boring. The auto-tune on his voice (think Cher 'I believe') was over used and his overly clever news reports in between songs didn't offer enough humor as a break from such heavy and weird music to warrant such breaks. I really dig him and will see all things he does, but I wouldn't see this again....unless I want another nap. The worst part is that I bought this recording before hand to prepare for the show and I don't think I'll ever listen to it again. It's reminiscent of one of those mid-career YES albums that was just full of such long and disjointed songs that you feel like you 'should' appreciate it....but you never really listen to it again.....even tho you tell your friends....'Oh, it's so progressive and amazing!' Being 54 and having seen thousands of shows now gives me the right to say it like it is.

I've seen Sufjan perform multiple times, so I was excited to see Planetarium performed live. I've wanted to see it ever since it came out in its initial run. Amazing lightshow, just the right amount of between-song banter, and really incredible arrangements of the album songs. (Mercury's ending is a highlight, with its swelling horns.)

Sufjan Stevens is a true artist of our time. Everything about the performance was lovingly crafted, from the over-the-top neon outfits to the choreography to the absolutely perfect setlist. The best thing about the performance was how unselfconscious Sufjan seemed onstage - he gave the impression that he was just having fun performing (especially while he was wearing an outfit made of multicolored balloons during Impossible Soul). The things he said between songs were insightful and often inspirational. He finished the set with a performance of Chicago that had the whole crowd on its feet, and then came back for a three-song encore that ended with a cover of Kiss as a tribute to Prince. If you get the chance to see Sufjan live, don't miss it - this concert was a work of genius.

We really enjoyed Mr. Stevens' performance. Being relatively new to his music, I wasn't sure what to expect from a live show, and was really pleased. Mr. Stevens' sometimes somber lyrics are beautifully created in his band's music and his own, sometimes quirky improvisation. When Mr. Stevens finally did break after several songs to welcome the crowd, it was immediately apparent that he's a terrific storyteller, who - despite many of his song lyrics - has a lighter side.

This was the most perfect concert I have ever attended. Everything was very professional and well done. The venue sounded amazing. I think 70% of that was just the theatre itself sounding so great naturally. It felt like you were wrapped up in all the sounds. Like a big blanket of sound. The visual was amazing as well. The lights and the backdrop really pulled you in the whole time and took you on this journey with the music. Sufjan and the band were all perfect. They played the Carrie and Lowell songs mainly, but with different arrangements. It was actually a little bittersweet because I'll never be able to hear those songs that same way again. When I listen to the album now I'll think of how awesome it was at the concert. Would highly recommend this artist and this venue to anybody.
