Enjoyed myself thoroughly. The venue is easily accessible without the added cost of parking like in the city. Great crowd and safe. The show was dynamite!!

Unbelievable
I was very disappointed in the show and venue. Let me get out the way to say that I have no complaints about Kirk Whalum. Asa musician he is awesome. The overall event itselt was disappointing. The opening act was horrible and was on way too long. I don't know if he was a newcomer or what and I am for giving new talent a chance. However this person should have been given a shorter period of time and a better act come on stage to warm up the crowd. The venue was not good as well. The seats are extremely small and uncomfortable. The setting shoul have been more intimate and personal. In summary, it was for a good cause, so I won't complain but I will be hesitant to purchase tickets for another jazz event at this venue.

We took another couple as our guests and the evening turned out to be a disappointment. The opening act was horrible and did anything but "warm up" the crowd. This left Kirk and his band in an uncomfortable situation of having to do that on their own and in our opinion didn't seem up to the task. Sound problems, in our opinion a poor choice of songs, and seemingly lackluster playing left us (and seemingly the crowd) quiet for most of his set. Only later in the set did Kirk and the band get us and crowd going.

Kirk's portion of the event was awesome! He is the smoothest jazz player out there and it was evident in this concert. I could have done without the slippery and nervous dialogue provided by his opening act, but it was soon forgotten as Kirk hit the stage.

Kirk and his musicians were phenomenal! I have become a life-long fan of Kirk, Ruby, Barbara Weathers, and all of his musical performers. Since attending, I have purchased every CD and/or DVD that I could find involving his music. He and his chosen musicians must all be geniuses!

The concert was wonderful. I was tired and drove from WS, but felt it was absolutely worth it! I enjoyed all the variations of music because no one just listens to one gendre of music; no one over the age of thirty anyway!

This was an awesome show. Kirk Whalum shined both playing the sax and engaging the audience between songs. His brother Kevin brought a lot of character to the performance and you could really tell he was having as much fun as the rest of us. Chante Moore's voice really just wowed the crowd and brought the whole show together. Again, an awesome awesome show.

I expected an evening with romantic music that would've been a great finishing touch to my Valentines Day celebration. The music was good but the first set was too short and the second set didn't have enough music. It was a good performance, but I was expecting a concert.

I went to see Chante Moore, not realizing she wasn't headlining. Kirk Whalum is an amazing musician, but I was disappointed Chante only sang 4 songs. I've been a fan of hers since A Love Supreme and expected a lot more stage time. She's incredibly talented.

I have attended well over 50 live concerts in my life... This one ranks at the very top! Messrs. Kirk & Kevin Whalum.and Ms.Chante Moore were positively unforgettable. I have never heard nor seen music come to life as it did at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C. Friday February 15, 2013! I cannot wait to visit Mr. Whalum whenever he's in the greater D.C. area next (Maybe the Wolf trap Lounge, VA?).

Overall the entertainment was very good. This was a first for me, first time at the theatre, and seeing the performers. The location of the event was not the best choice, parking wasn't just limited, but there wasn't a parking garage. We liked the the closeness and intimacy of performance. Music was great, Kirk spoke way too long, Chante sounds wonderful! Left there wanting to here more from her. Didn't care about background singers, just need to hear more of Chante. The band and Chante Are a perfect match. I thought Chante Moore was singing all her songs, not just 4.

Howard Hewitt should have been the headliner. His whole set was great. I especially liked the intro of his new song. However, my favorite song is still 'Say Amen'. The weather was perfect for the outdoor concert. The Mableton venue allowed for a very intimate show. I travelled from Chicago for other reasons, but trust me, Hewitt was on my short must see list.

The concert featuring Kirk Whalum, Howard Hewit and Peter White was great. We could not have asked for a better nite. The weather was perfect. The venue is just enough, allowing everyone to feel up close and personal with the artist. The music was clear, so big ups to the sound crew. I did not like the microphones being abruptly cut off and the lights coming on in the middle of Kirk's performance. I understand the time factor with the venue, but would have assumed the time was worked out since the show did not start at 6:00 as it was printed on the ticket. If I am not mistaken, the show was at least 30-45 minutes late. This took time away from the performer many people really wanted to see.

This was a lot of great music. The show started at 6:00pm and promptly ended at 10:30pm. Because of noise ordinances all shows end at 10:30 sharp. There were two local acts opening before Peter White & Howard Hewett. Once again, Wade Ford put on a great show. The Whalum bothers & Howard Hewett remained after the show for pictures and autographs. We (fans) always appreciate that from the artists. Peter White could not stick around as he had an over night flight for a concert the next day in California. Thanks again to Wade Ford for the excellent event.

Peter White was fantastic, and the main reason I attended, Howard liked himself too much, and was on too long, Kurt was spectacular, but only played a few songs and the concert ended abruptly, in the middle of a song because of a noise ordinance? In between acts the DJ's were good, but before Kurt, a gentlemen from Wade Ford had to acknowledge a long list of people that became long winded. I appreciate the work that goes into getting prime time musicians, but I payed to hear Kurt who was only on stage a short period! The concert was supposed to start at 6:00pm, and did not start until about 7:00pm!

Kirk Whalum was the drawing attraction and fantastic as always. Peter White is a great entertainer and was wonderul. However the event was spoiled by introductions of sponsor wives, and an R & B singer who consumed 1 hour of the show..... which led to the abrupt, never-heard-of ending, in the middle of Kirk's (and his brother Kevin) song---they simple said "we have been told that we have to end the show, NOW" and the stage lights went off. Absolutely awful !!! I paid to have a performance by Kirk Whalum and did not get my money's worth!! Kirk is a personal family friend from our hometown Memphis. My family and I have followed and supported his career from the beginning.

OMG!!!!!!!!. What a wonderful night. The venue was perfect for the ending of summer. It could be termed a picnic concert, it was so laid back and relaxed. The crowd came prepared to have a good time. Then the MUSIC.......... Each performer played to the crowd, giving us all of them musically. Peter White got us warmed up, and had our blood pumping. Howard Hewitt, played to our hearts, and made us feel the love. And finally, Kirk Whalum took us to the party. Each and every moment was delicious.

All acts were "off the chain"! Peter White was as smooth"as he wanna be". Howard Hewett did what he does best "drive the ladie wild"! The brother can SANG. Kirk as always is the king of sax. I mentioned to a few people that I wondered if Kirk would pay tribute to Whitney Houston (voice of the century). Kirk did not disappoint. He shared warm loving stories of my girl and "brought it home" by belting his legendary solo from "I Will Always Love You" breaking our hearts while leaving us grateful that we still had a part of Whitney here with us through Kirk. The only regret of the show was that it was cut short (on Kirk's act). Perhaps they could have left the kiddie acts off the line up at the beginning of the evening. Save them for free concerts. We PAID to see Joey, Peter, Howard, & Kirk!

I had seen Kirk before in Cary a few years ago at an outdoor venue and he was energetic and had great rapport with the audience. He also has a genuine love for what he does and it comes across eloquently when he performs. He is engaging and always has the satisfaction of his audience in mind. Not only is he a very talented artist, but he also appears to be a genuinely good person. The added attraction of his brother, and the hyper talented Nicole Henry were icing on the cake. I would definitely go see them again, and recommend it to all of my jazz loving friends.

The show was a fundraiser to benefit the DNS Scholarship Fund and the tickets were practically given away. I say that because the show was so extraordinary that I felt like we owed them money! Kirk and his band played none stop for almost two hours. It being a Friday night and just getting off work, it was uplifting! If you like jazz, go see Kirk live and you will fall in love! I plan to see him every time he comes within 50 miles, maybe 100 miles. Originally from NYC and have been to many concerts and know extraordinary when I see it and hear it!

First, Kirk Whalum exudes personality. He is a most pleasant person on stage. Second, he is a fabulous sax player with a distinct and vibrant style. Finally, Kirk Whalum is a spiritual person whose commitment to Christ only seems to brighten his music and his outlook on life. Seeing this performer is always a first-rate experience. I first saw him as a young man in Houston at Cody's before Bob James "discovered" him. He could play even in the early 1980s. Now, at 52, he has grown and mellowed. I would recommend Kirk Whalum without question.

Incognito at the Double tree - best place in town. plenty of bars setup so you're not waiting. Seats were all good. Stayed an extra night because I wanted to see the gospel show. I had seen Kirk Whalen on The Smooth Jazz Cruise and love him in that genre but did not like his interpretation of "Gospel According to Jazz". I had never seen Yolanda Adams live and was looking forward to her performance. WHAT!! Only three songs, and songs that were not memorable or mentionable. She did not sing any of her popular hits. The best part of the concert was the guest artist. The choir that was bought in was not even impressive. A waste of their time to come sing backup to a Michael Jackson Song. Where was the traditional gospel? Yolanda and a choir...there could have been at least a few traditional songs. Like me, there were a lot of local church folks there expecting it. What an expensive stay for such a disappointing concert event (extra hotel night, meals and concert ticket).

I love Lalah Hathaway and I enjoyed Kirk Whalum and the Good Times Brass Band. The venue was very uncomfortable because the seats are very close, even for average height. The show started 45 minutes late and the sound was not adjusted well. Lalah Hathaway didnt sing enough... There was a hour break in music for awards which was way too long. I wont go back to that venue or that type of event again. Seemed like the planning wasnt the best.

I enjoyed Kirk Whalum and Lalah Hathaway but the opening act, was not so good. The band sounded like my high school jazz group. They were late, just like last year, they were 30 to 45 minutes, starting. All that nonsense and rambling about nothing, was not to my liking nor was it appealing to my date ! The awards presentation, was boring and lengthy. This was our second year attending and we will not return next year ! I can think of far better things to do with money !! David L. Terrell, Jr.
