I am a huge Bruce Hornsby fan, and he never fails to put on a great show. I was anticipating a great experience, since I was lucky to be in the center of the front row. Unfortunately the expectation only lasted for the first 2 songs. At that point Bruce Hornsby announced that anyone could come to the front of the stage and dance. Because of this no one in the first 3-4 rows could see the stage. This was a huge disappointment to everyone in the front row,all of whom were hardcore fans. We all felt we were disregarded by the band. Next time I would suggest you have some respect for all your fans, and give everyone the opportunity to enjoy the show.

While the show was fine, their were two bad aspects to the management of the show that destroyed it for me. First, the ticket and the web site indicated the show started at 4:00 p.m. but Bruce didn't come on until 6:15 p.m. I was advised that that was the scheduled starting time for Bruce but "the event" started at 4:00 p.m. That consisted of one other band who played for about an hour and then there was a 75 minute break. I arrived 2:15 minutes early as a result. Second, after two songs Bruce invited everyone to come up in the front and dance. Well I was one of the "lucky ones" who had front row seats (from being the first online when tickets went on sale) and thus had all sorts of people standing in front of me during the show. I could barely see the stage from the front row! It may be great for those who decided to come out last minute and have their seats upgraded to the stage but it was not so great for the front row fans who, for the most part, had to move to other seats to even see the show.

So casual, so laid back. Reminds one of the great concerts of years ago. He allowed everyone to approach the stage, took requests, and delivered a strong performance. No pretense, no arriving in an egg, no costume changes. Sorry kiddies.

Bruce and the Noisemakers were awesome. This being the first time to see him live, was a little surprised at the flow of the concert, but loved it. Tea Leaf Green had great music, however I could not tell you one word they sang. Kind of disappointing.

Bottom line Bruce sounded great....but he evidently has a problem playing the hits that actually made him popular. I did not like the fact that he didn't play some of his major hit songs and the ones that were played were played so differently that they were hard to recognize. If I would have known this from the start I would not have went. Face the fact Bruce you were popular in the 80's why are you trying to hide it. You had great songs play them the way everyone remembers!!!!!

During an after-show discussion with friends we decided that we all thoroughly enjoyed it. However, we also came to the conclusion that the reason we did was because we were all musicians. Hornsby and the Noisemakers stretch and bend the classic radio hits while making even the less well-known tunes entertaining. Even Hornsby himself admitted during the show that they like to keep it fresh and new every night. The band it tight and it's interesting to watch them as they all have their eyes glued to Hornsby waiting for his cues to go here or go there. There is no setlist and the majority of the show relies on fans' requests laid out on stage for him to pick up and sift through during the show. Every show of his is different, but they are entertaining. whether its the between song banter, the instrument changes, or the back and forth musician soloing. Its all entertaining and I had a smile on my face all night long. The casual Hornsby listener who likes his radio hits will probably be somewhat disappointed and/or bored unless he/she is a musician-type. I say that only because he will expand a 3 minute radio hit into 8 minutes and go off in another direction halfway thru the tune. Some folks don't care for that. We found it entertaining. Tea Leaf Green: I've seen local bands with more talent. A couple nice moments, but they should lose one of the two drummers and get a new guitarist. Keyboardist is obviously the ringleader and has the most talent. Bass player not bad either. Songs were forgettable unfortunately. They were young, but inexperienced at how to put on a show. Too bad they were only allowed half of the PA system and instruments had to use stage volume except for sub bass. Oh well, they were a time-filler.

Bruce Hornsby was awesome. He carried the concert with a great sence of humor and personality. Never mssing an opportunity to make the crowd laugh. Play mostly his newer material but threw out the old favorites with such power.
I have been a fan of Bruce since I saw him with the Range in 1987. I always was thrilled to see him when he played with the Dead. I thought these experiences gave me an idea of what to expect from him when I went to see him 4/26/11 in Mobile, AL. I was wrong. Bruce started off with some very funky improvisational piano play as he and the band got in sync. The show then proceeded to meander over new, old and covered material as Bruce engaged the audience in conversation. "Play That Funky Music White Boy" being played on the Appalachian dulcimer is an unforgettable experience. Taking requests from the audience, Hornsby managed to create a truly intimate experience. He customized the set list to reflect regionally relevant material. I left the show pumped from the great ryhthm jams and feeling like I knew Bruce Hornsby a lot better than when I got to the show. I can totally see why people will pay to see Bruce over and over and I will make it a point to see him again whenever he is within driving distance. LOVED it.
We have seen Bruce in many concerts in many cities. He never fails to deliver music that takes your breath away, and this concert was no exception. The problem with this concert was that it was short. Apparently, the Casino decided that the concert could only last 1.5 hours. Since it only took us less than 10 minutes to lose the $10 reward play that they gave us for attending the concert, I really don't understand why the concert couldn't have lasted another half hour or so. We still had plenty of time before the free play expired at midnight to lose our money. I will need to think long and hard before attending another event at this venue.
Bruce is the consummate musician/artist/performer and his band is flawlessly on point. Just when they get into the groove they had to stop because of "contractual agreement " with potowatomi! Seriously!!!???? Regardless it's a perfect venue to have that jam session like intimate concert. Love them so much
I've loved Bruce Hornsby forever, whether he is playing my old favorite songs with "The Range", or performing with "The Dead". His performance with "The Noisemakers" at "The Space" in Westbury was amazing! It was the perfect mix of old favorite songs & new tunes I haven't heard before that I fell in love with immediately. He ALWAYS plays with the most talented musicians, & ALWAYS puts on a great show! The years are passing by for him as a performer, but if you close your eyes, he is still the same talented musician & performer who's hand I shook when I saw him play at St. John's University about 25 years ago. He puts on a great concert!!!
I have always been a fan of Bruce Hornsby. His piano playing will hypnotize you and his voice is even better live than it is on recording. He interacts with the crowd to make it a very personable show. I highly suggest you add seeing him to your bucket list! It is worth every cent!!!!!
Just saw Shawn Colvin opening for Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers at Mnt Winery this weekend and we had a blast. Shawn Colvin played solo on guitar and did her requisite hits and told some nice stories about her early career with the help of Bruce H - but the real show only really happened when Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers got on stage and did their thing. CLEARLY these guys LOVE doing what they do and it oozed from every note. Bruce was in rare form playing music from the new live disc and going all the way back to the first albums, including some duets with Colvin. He told stories, took requests from the crowd and ended playing accordian while dancing on the top of his grand piano. He and the band are clearly under appreciated high quality musicians and although all of us in attendance were smart enough to buy tkts and catch the show - not sure why MORE FOLKS don't know about these guys ?! Would I go and see them again YOU BET WE WOULD. GREAT SHOW, LOTS OF FUN and GREAT CROWD.
Bruce Hornsby performed at Longwood Gardens and it was absolutely the BEST live performance we've seen in over twenty years! Bruce just keeps getting better with age!
The interplay between Hornsby's piano and Bela's banjo was simply amazing. Two Grammy award winning artists without the headliner attitudes, most of the songs on the set list included both artists. The crowd was also amazing for a rainy night in Portsmouth, and Bruce rewarded US with what felt like a hometown show. When they come back, I will definitely be there.
Admittedly, our seats were great (front row), so there was nothing bad I could possibly say. Bella Fleck and his band were simply awe inspiring and the early appearance of Hornsby with them for a number was a real treat. Bruce and the band were phenomenal, though he was on stage for much fewer songs than I recall in the past. Bella Fleck and Flecktones took up half (if not more) of the show. Aside from that, Bruce was his usual amazing self. Funny, engaging, so very talented.
Bruce was in rare form , the audience interaction made for a memorable night. No politics, all music, great show. The venue was quite empty, however those of us who showed up were treated to great music and fun. Best venue in Mobile by a large margin, even nice by "Saenger" standards.
Unfortunately, we were hoping Bruce Honrsby would mix his greatest hits in with his new stuff. We have always felt that every artist should play their biggest hits for the fans who loved them. And THEN add new material in between.
Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers put on an awesome show. They did the good old standby songs, but with an interesting twist. Would definitely go to see them again.
Bottom line, great show,,,go see it and enjoy ! Set list was a little off the mark of what the audience expected, but the sound, tightness of the group and length of show were perfect. Bruce still hit all the notes and shows no sign of slowing down. White Limo was the best song of the night...he went all over the board on that one and should have done so with a few more of his classics.
i always enjoy shows at this venue , the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable Los Lobos the opening act was very good , there band was tight and the front man still has a strong voice , they played a good long set . Bruce Hornsby was outstnding , his love of music and his creativity are amazing ! He loves what he does and has fun doing it ! It was the first time I saw Hornsby and I would go back in a New York minute !! A tip of the hat to Hampton Beach Club Casino , Ticketmaster , Los Lobos and Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers , for me this was an epic show !
I own four Hornsby cds, yet I only recognized two songs during the entire concert. And one of the two, he said that he didn t like, so he had changed it. Through the night, he seemed to be having a blast jamming & dragging out each song. I felt like I was at a rehearsal, where he was playing around. Maybe I m old fashioned, but I prefer to hear the songs that I remember, or at least a few of them. I ve seen him twice before, many years ago, & I enjoyed those concerts. This was a huge disappointment. I won t be going to see him again.

One of the best performances I ve ever been at - and I ve seen many bands over the last 55 years or so, including the Beatles, Stones, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airolane, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Who, The Police, Billy Joel.... the list can go on much longer! BH&TN were outstanding - they were tight, well balanced, and versatile - Bruce really was more than adept with his piano and dulcimer - each band member was a consummate artist regarding their instrumental prowress and talent. Accoustically, The John Harmes Center was a perfect fit - and Bruce was a great host who really had a great way of being conversant with the audience. Gotta see these guys again!!!! I have seen Bruce Hornsby about a dozen times, and you never know what style of show Bruce is going to do. Many are great, this one was not. I did not like the selection of songs, and the few good ones that were in the set were re-arranged into nearly unrecognizable formats. Also, I did not like the venue (Meadows Casino in Washington PA). The acoustics were not good, and the folding seats were way to close together for comfort. I looked around, and everyone (even petite people) were jammed together uncomfortably. I probably would not go to another show at The Meadows, and I am not sure if I would pay to see Bruce Hornsby again. What a shame.

I am a huge Bruce fan and love the way he plays the piano. Overall the band and Bruce showed that they are very talented and that they can still play. That being said, I don't like when they take their hits(The Way It Is, Mandolin Rain, ETC...) and don't play them they way they are recorded. They played all the songs I love but changed them so much they were barely recognized. This is my humble opinion but when I spend money to hear a favorite artist, I can't stand when they try and recreate the hits that made them famous.

We have seen Bruce Hornsby many times, (most recently Funhouse), but the band and venue this time allowed the audience to hear and see the great talent. We had fun, and it was obvious the band did as well. I regret to say for those of us who are big fans, our last experience in a Lake Tahoe casino was embarrassing as the audience was rude and inattentive. We'd hoped to have an encore this time, and were not disappointed to hear Mandolin Rain, as this is played frequently on our piano at home. We also play violin and have become a huge fan of Ross Holmes.

Wow I saw Bruce many years ago in Red Bank's Count Basie Theatre. He was good then. But this concert was over the top. First my wife and I sat in Orchestra seating behind the band. The evening was special. Bruce is perhaps my favorite piano player/song writer today. His intro's were so appropriate and engaging. He excels as a band leader over his Noisemakers Band. The guitar player had the best solos and sweet licks. His drummer was a driving force with perfect accents. His Keyboard player of 21 years created great color, the bass player was rock steady, and his violinist was extreme. No one player too much but enough that the sum of the parts were exceptional. Ricky Scaggs joined the band for the last part of the evening and was Ricky phenomenal. Long concert with one encore. 21/2 hrs. So much better than Billy Joel. Great musicianship. Bruce plays and leads with grace and joy. Really into making a perfect evening Which he succeeded doing superbly well.

My wife and I have been to so many concerts that I lost count a long time ago. We've heard the best and now the worst in concert. The Stones, The Eagles, Elton John, Billy Joel, America, Paul Simon and on and on. This concert was the most unproffessionaly presented, disjointed concert we have ever seen. Even the "hits" were renditions that were hard recognizable. Bruce played simple solo melodies on the piano over and over again while the rest of the band stood there. Hornsby admitted more than once that they were playing new music or music they weren't familiar with or practicing for some upcoming event. That's not what we paid for.

Great concert and an even better venue. Make sure to get to Penn's Peak early and enjoy their full service on premises restaurant. Views off of their expansive deck are amazing. If it's cold or rainy, the inside has plenty of seating. Bruce never disappoints playing a mix of his classics, audience requests and other songs he's never played in concert. Penn's Peak is a small but beautiful venue and their staff were great. I've been a professional musician for 52 years. I've been at more concerts than I can count. I've seen the greatest jam bands, from Cream, Led Zeppelin, the Greatful Dead, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the original Allman Brothers, Dave Mathews band and Phish. Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers belong in the company of these all-time greats. Hornsby himself is a virtuoso on the piano, blending jazz, funk, and gospel with an overall americana style that is immediately identifiable as his own, and seeing him solo would be enough to satisfy the most critical of critics. Add to that a band of equally virtuoso players who are sooo tight, and yet loose enough to follow wherever their leader decides to take them that night, and you get close to imagining what you are in for. DO NOT miss him next time he comes around. You will experience a show you will never forget.

Bruce Hornsby is wonderful. He's the kind of performer you wish you knew personally. His band is both tight and loose; they listen, and they don't do it by memory. Everything about the show is impeccably performed and dynamic. It's clear they enjoy each other's company, musically and otherwise. I'd lost touch with Hornsby for quite a while, but I will be picking up some of his more recent material because it's uniformly superb. And I will definitely try to see him every time he visits New England. American Babies, the warmup band, was a GREAT surprise. Well-crafted, catchy tunes that are really diverse and interesting, excellent harmonies, fine musicianship. Try to catch these guys before they get huge, because I think they probably will.

The show was excellent! The set list was mostly from Spirit Trail, it just flowed that way. The crowd and the band all seemed to enjoy themselves. Bruce and the Noisemakers are consistently terrific at their concerts.

I don't go to see Bruce Hornsby to hear 20 year old pop hits. I go to hear him play with an assembly of accomplished musicians because sometimes, if you let an artist create, you get something special. Bruce can flip jazz into country into ballads with dexterity. His piano playing is unique and entertaining. The sidemen were great and the guy standing in the front with the white shirt was entertaining to watch dancing by himself all night. A very entertaining night in the old Wilbur.

Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers were in fine form Sunday night! They all looked like they were enjoying themselves, and it came across to the audience. The sound was superb, and with his long list of tunes, he could have played for another 2 1/2 hours.

It had been a couple of years since we visited the PAC in Englewood. It was a great night of food, music, and convenience for us Bergen County residents. More people should take advantage of this venue and of the convenient free parking and easy walk to the venue and to local restaurants. We took in a pre-dinner special at a local restaurant recommended through the Ticketmaster/Bergen PAC system and we were not disappointed. Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers gave a very personable performance, all seats provided close access to the performance - not a bad seat in the house. Hornsby and his band are highly talented, polished, yet able to perform what appeared to be some impromptu lyrics and jam sessions. The drummer was amazing and keeps the music kicking! I had waited a long time to see Bruce Hornsby and was not disappointed!

One of the best concerts I have been to in a long time. Fantastic musicians who appear to be having a great time at their craft. Bruce's talents on the piano continue to amaze me.

This was our second year in a row seeing Bruce at BergenPac in Englewood, NJ. Simply a very enjoyable evening of great music. We love the way he casually and in a very friendly manner addresses the audience, plays requests, he just has a style that really appeals to me and my wife...Bruce played for over 2 hours, didn't want it to stop, you forget how much great music he's written ...and the show was local for us not requiring a trip into NYC.

I saw him in the late 80's and thought 'what an amazing show!' fast forwrad 20+ years, and I buy my tickets not expecting much, but a little nostalgia and some decent nusic; instead, I walk outside and head to my car, turing to my date I say - you guessed it - "what an amazing show!" Buce and the Noisemakers rocked the house! Worth every penny!

Great Show. He reached back in his catalogue and performed new arrangements of old familiar tunes. David Mansfield was a treat as a guest on mandolin and fiddle.

I've always liked Bruce Hornsby's music and his style of playing, but I had no idea he could jazz out so much. The opening was gorgeous. He was playing in what seemed to be an improvisational style and then ever so slowly, the melody became clear and "The Way it Is" grew. Each band member walked onstage and joined in. Goosebump City. I brought my 17 yr. old piano playing son and his best friend because they are even bigger fans of Bruuuuce than I am. We realized immediately that they were the youngest people in the audience but they didn't seem to mind until the drunken ladies started dancing in the house right side, close to the stage. I was embarrassed for my demographic. The Noisemakers are so talented and so good together. What a treat!

Bergen PAC delivers once again and I have to say that Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers put on a great show. It was great to watch them as they seem to really enjoy what they do and that comes through very clear. They were fun to watch and the music was awesome. I would recommend to anyone that has not been to one of their concerts do make an effort to go.They will be in for a great evening!!!!!

Seasoned performer, Bruce Hornsby played his well known hit songs but with a blue grass twist. His performance was genuine, humorous at times engaging the audience as members shouted out their favorites in the hope that this Grammy award winner would grace us with his lovely melodies. The sound quality of this theater was not sharp. I was disappointed. But Bruce Hornsby's magic made up for the less than good sound. At some point I almost forgot that I was at the Bergen PAC and instead felt like I was in my living room being serenaded by Bruce and his Noisemakers. Kudos to the Mandolin and Fiddle player! Great Show!

I've been a Hornsby fan for 20 years (first saw him with the Range in El Paso, TX) and this was easily as good as those first concerts. Took my 11-year old daughter, who is in her 2nd year of piano (darn good, too), and she loved it! Great energy, excellent selections, and perfect venue (if you haven't seen an outdoor concert at Longwood Gardens, you've missed something special). WAY better than his solo performances, which tend to be very eclectic.

The Mountain Winery venue was spectacular. The weather was perfection. My wife and I stayed the weekend in Sarotaga. We had dinner outside overlooking the valley. The meal and service was excellent. I have wanted to see Bruce Hornsby for many years and have kept a lookout for when he is on tour and Shawn Colvin for me was a bonus. Just getting the chance to see Bruce Hornsby made it an excellent night. I will say the concert seemed too short. I believe Mountain Winery requires that they shut it down at 10:30pm. There were so many songs that I wanted to hear. I thought that Bruce went off the reservation a bit during the middle of the concert. Songs that I have not heard and non album arrangements of other songs. What can I say, its Bruce Hornsby. It was really nice to listen to musicians in a small setting.

Enjoyed the show, but cannot understand why Hornsby would have an opening act of an hour, then a 30-minute break, start at 9:00 p.m. and then play only 90 minutes (including a single encore song) because the Mountain Winery has a 10:30 p.m. curfew. He knew that, and thus intentionally skimped on the performance. Not good. I was also surprised that he played only ONE of his more popular songs. Have some fun, promote your latest, but give the audience what you know they came to hear. Even U2 does that in a large arena. Surely Hornsby can do that in a tiny venue like the Mountain Winery.

I've seen Bruce and friends a few different times over the last 10 years. Always a enjoyable show. The level of sheer talent is incredible. There's a certain looseness to the show that provides a level of spontoneity that you don't normally experience with other artists. Although I enjoy the spontoneity, some of the music kinda misses the original recording experience and memory I have for the "tunes". For instance, "End of the Innocence", great song and although Don Henley sang it, it took on a quality that changed it so much that it didn't quite sound like the song. People were excited to hear it and that excitement wore off before the middle of the performance. Shawn Colvin was good as a "solo acoustic" but I really dug her when Bruce came out to sing harmony with her and when she came out to sing with the band. All and all a great show...

Shawn Colvin played too long. I enjoy the improvisation of Bruce Hornsby, but at this concert is was scattered, too loose and seemed too much like a waste of time. Bruce had difficulty tuning his dulcimer which also added to the inefficiency of the band. By the time Bruce got on stage and got going, it was time to end the concert because of the 10:30 PM curfew. All in all it was very disappointing.

Bruce Hornsby was absolutely amazing, both himself and his band played acsolutely brilliantly. I REAAAALLY could've done without having to listen to Shawn Colvin, though. How many more retreads of the same damn 2 chords can a human being possibly do. I couldn't believe when she made even a Tom Waits cover become devoid of any character whatsoever ...A TOM WAITS song, for crying out loud !!! How can you turn a Tom Waits song into two chords of boredom ???? How ???

Seeing a show at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA is second only to seeing a show in The Garden of Eden (if that were an option.) Now seeing Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers and Shawn Colvin together in one awesome setting was absolute magic. Outside, under the stars, crickets chirping, wine in hand, and the music of familiar friends and spectacular musicians, all made for an unforgettable evening. I cannot wait to see them again.

My wife and I went and saw the Sunday night show at the Mountain winery and both felt it was not his best effort. We appreciate the jam band thing and get the connection to the Grateful Dead but we were dissapointed that many of his most popular songs were not included. This will be the last go around for us and Hornsby but we have really enjoyed his concerts in the past. The Mountain Winery is an absolutely perfect venue which makes it almost secondary who you are going to see!

Bruce Hornsby is an brilliant musician. That said he's not much of an entertainer. I think he spent too much time playing with the Grateful Dead. This was my first time seeing / hearing him in live performance I go to live performances to hear new music as well as the dynamic of live performance. Right from the start Bruce and the band jammed on every song. I was hoping to hear at least 2 to 4 songs that sounded something like the recordings. This didn't happen. He played (after spending several minutes trying to tune it) the dulcimer for "Long Valley Road". I didn't recognize the music at all, but did know the words. He played "End of the Innocence" that was recorded by Don Henley. Started out very close to the recorded version then disolved into another jam that had no link musically to the song. When it finally came back to the chorus I thought he was already on another song. He said he wanted to play more songs, but when you jam on every song for 10 minutes it limits how many you can play when the venue has a closing time like the Mountain Winery. He has a great group of musicians. Everyone on stage was very talented especially the drummer and the guitarist. They all seemed to be really enjoying themselves. He had very little interaction with the audience. I left feeling that he was on stage to entertain himself rather than the paying audience. If you are a jam band fan then this may be a great concert to see. If you expect anything like his recordings it's very disappointing.

It was kind of sweet, but not a moving experience. When you are doing more down tempo material, it is actually much harder to engage an audience, and the audience was fairly disengaged. Shawn Colvin and Bruce Hornsby are both very good performers, but not for a three hour show. Actually a third act might have made the evening more interesting and engaging. The Mountain Winery is a fantastic venue, but there's pretty much only one way in or out to the ONE bathroom in the whole facility, which almost always has achingly long lines (both M & F).
