Stunning from second one! Couldn't take my eyes of the dancers, the set was amazing. The story was beautiful and brought me to tears several times. I feel the male roles and dancers were intensely full of strength and emotion. The women were danced beautifully, the roles were not as strongly written but was a completely captivating show and wanted to watch it all over immediately. I want to see more from Shaping Sound and will go at the first opportunity!

Hands down the best dance show we have seen. My daughter was a dancer her whole life and I have been to hundreds of dance events and shows. These guys know how to put on a great show. You are mesmerized by all of them ( of course I am partial to Nick) he just draws you in and you cannot stop watching him. I loved their Oxygen show and we will continue to follow their careers, as I know they will all have successful ones.

As a huge fan of dance and Travis Wall,I knew I had to take the opportunity to see this show. It was one of the most powerful and intense shows I have seen. To watch a story unfold in front of my eyes with no speaking involved, only being told through movement was breathtaking.

Although I've seen a Shaping Sound show before and loved it, I can't say the same about this one. There was too much moving props around and not enough DANCING. There are amazing dancers in this troupe, but I was very disappointed I really didn't get to see them DANCE!!!

Travis Wall is one of my favorite choreographers, and he didn't disappoint. This production was filled with innovative movement, emotion, beauty, power, and grace. Unfortunately, I brought my soon-to-be 9-year-old granddaughter who loved the dancing, but (much to my relief) did not understand the highly sexual story line. I tried to gloss over some of the scenes of homosexuality, but the domestic violence and homophobia was hard to explain to her. At that point, I think she had given up trying to follow the story and was just enjoying the spectacular performances. The set and the staging on the set were fabulous, but the lighting was a little annoying, sometimes too bright and sometimes too dark. For adults, the plot of the ballet was intriguing, but it was a little too long. Overall, a wonderful dance experience...for adults.

Amazing talent ....you can't miss this if you love "the dance"...at least Contemporary dance although if you love dance, you can't not love this show. Travis Wall will go down in history books as a one of the most progressive choreographers of our time...for all you ballet lovers...you have to step out of the box and see this show...you will not be disappointed. The venue has it's struggles; parking, etc. but the show was well worth the glitches

As soon as I knew Travis Wall was coming to town with his new dance company I knew that I wanted to witness his master piece! I did little research about the show, I just bought my tickets and patiently waited until show time. I was pleasantly surprised by the storyline that he chose. The beginning and ending were awesome. But I felt the climax lacked a little. I felt that this part should have been the most powerful but it seemed kind of rushed. But the dancing was great and the performers did an awesome job translating Travis' vision.

I've been to at least 7 shows on Broadway in NYC and San Francisco, a ballet at Lincoln Center, a few Nutcrackers, and several other dance productions because I used to dance and am still a huge fan. This show was the most intricate, had the best musicality, was the most exciting, and entertained me overall more than any of the others. I'd see it again and again if I could! Thank you for coming to the South! So many shows, including SYTYCD don't venture this way. I am so grateful for the opportunity to see it in person and at a great price. Many many many more good wishes and loving thanks! Shannon Fields Wright

If you enjoy shows like "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Dancing With the Stars," you'll LOVE "Shaping Sound - dance reimagined". The show features three winners of SYTYCD (Nick Lazzarini-season 1, Kathryn McCormick-highest placed woman season 6, and Ricky Ubeda-season 11.). Artistic Director Travis Wall was the season 2 runner-up, and has since been nominated five times for choreography Emmy Awards, winning in 2015. Many other cast members have appeared on one or both of the TV shows as contestants, choreographers or featured dancers. All have top flight credentials. This show was exciting, thrilling, moving, sad and joyful in turn. The dancers interpretation of the music, enhanced by the lighting, produced a world-class show. The choreography moved smoothly from piece to piece, and treated us to a wonderful evening.

I cried, laughed and loved every minute of it. Wish I had closer seats to see their expressions too. I would have purchased the dvd, if there were one, to rewatch it again, and again. My sister doesn't enjoy opera (this is the closest thing I could relate this dancing experience to), so interpretive stuff might just not be her thing. she found this too sad of a story to keep her amused too. However, I loved it and having recently lost a few key people in my life, I related to a lot of the interpretations; especially when he was being pulled by all sides in the ropes and going nowhere. There were so many memorable parts for me in this dance story performance. Like the mirror routine, where his alter ego comes out and they tussle around. Good job to all the dancers who didn't just interpret A song, but performed, and brought us along on this journey, and it's unfolding through many dances. Travis Wall... You are brilliant!

Although I can appreciate some of the choreography in this stage production, the story line was hard to follow. The entire production was dreary, gloomy, and depressing. What an amazing creation Travis Wall has brought to us with his latest Shaping Sound creation titled After The Curtain. He is taking contemporary dance into the realm of theatre and ballet. A storied dance creation using just enough innovative and creative special effects for a WOW factor, but never detracting from the focus on dance. Truly it was like watching a silent film. While more distinctive costuming might have helped us distinguish the female characters more easily, it's minor in the face of choreography and acting that is on par with Broadway. Lex Ishimoto is not only an incredible dancer, he's an outstanding actor who gave us Jude whether featured or moving a set piece. The women were stunning in their technique an ability to convey the emotion of their particular conflict. Nick Lazzarini, holy cow and Travis Wall, please keep it coming. You are the Linn Manuel Miranda of Dance. On a side note the Detroit Opera House continued to disrupt our evening by continuing to seat people an hour into the performance. Inexcusable! They need to educate their audience and review their late seating policy. When I have a choice between Chicago and Detroit I will now choose Chicago!

I am a big Travis Wall fan. I was expecting beautiful dancing and a light-hearted evening. The show is very dark... literally and figuratively. I must admit the dancing was outstanding. But, the show itself was not my cup of tea. The main character writes plays. He is in a relationship with a girl but meets a guy and falls in love. Someone kills his lover (I'm not sure why?) and he breaks his girlfriend's heart. In the end he commits suicide. Also, there were other less important couples in the show. All of them had dysfunctional relationships.

The dancing was incredible. Travis Wall is a genius when is come to choreography. My only complaint was the story line. We LOVE Travis Wall and have watched him since his debut on SYTYCD season 2. I was really excited to take my daughter to see him and the Amazing cast. However, I was disappointed in the darkness of the show. I understand it was "written" this way however, the storyline itself was hard to follow through the First Act. While innovative, the show itself lacked the Wow Factor I was hoping for. Favorite Moment: My daughter and I loved the "Paper" routine.

My goodness. We knew Travis Wall was talented from SYTYCD. My wife saw his show during DancerPalooza and was in love. But nothing compared to the brilliance of this piece of art. Travis Wall is a great choreographer and the cast was amazing but the storyline was depressing and the music monotonous and disharmonic all the way through. I walked away unhappy that i had gone. Sorry. Maybe next show will capture my emotions the way other pieces by Travis Wall have. Nick Lazarini stole the show.

We left before intermission... Travis Wall is such a talented dancer, and some of the dancing and choreography was spectacular, but those moments felt too short-lived.. The story was dark and difficult with a lot of pantomimed emotion and complex relationships being explored. I appreciate the inspiration and ingenuity, but it was hard to watch and the set design was beyond distracting and depressing. Just felt that it needed tightening and revision to tell a strong story.

I was really looking forward to seeing this as I had previously seen Shaping Sound at the Broad. However, this was dreary, repetitive, and difficult to get involved in. It was obviously, written to tell a story....but I could not follow it. The lack of differences and color in costumes, sets and even the music was so disappointing. Luckily, we stayed for the second half in which first routine was excellent, moving and enjoyable. There was another that we enjoyed but had nothing to do with some of the tricks (ropes and flying). The whole thing should have been condensed to an hour with some added excitement. Sorry for this poor review as I adored Travis' individual choreographed routines!!!

I cannot even begin to share the phenomenal level of talent that this show had. I instantly wanted to watch it all again as soon as it was over. I held my breath the entire show. Travis' ability to pair male/male & female/female duets with strength, tenderness & beauty is powerful. The performers dance with every fiber of their being. They were born to dance. Run, don't walk to see Shaping Sound!!!!!!

Travis Wall is a genius, and this show was beautiful. It's a must see for modern dance fans. The venue lent itself way to the brilliant show.

Travis Wall (and friends) possess a gift of combining movement, sound, and storytelling! Wall's dance and choreographic brilliance is mesmerizing. I could watch he and his fellow dancers perform for more than the 2 hours this show lasted. Each dance led quickly into the other, all telling one seamless story.

The choreography was innovative, as Travis Wall always is. The dancing was amazing! That said, a synopsis of the story in the program would have been greatly appreciated.

Shaping Sound was wonderful. Travis Wall is one of my daughter's and my favorite choreographer! His choreography was again creative and unique. We especially liked the wire flying and the dances with the lanterns and the pages. The dance members of the company were so fluid and skilled. Watching a story being told only thru dance was really amazing. We drove 6 1/2 hours to see this performance and would definitely do it again!

Travis and crew have outdone themselves. The story, the execution and talent, the set, the illusions, the emotion, brilliantly thought through and executed. My daughter had gone to the previous show 2 years ago and said \u2018After The Curtain blew her away. I agree completely. Looking forward to what Break The Floor and Shaping Sound does next!
