23 is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I drove 2 hours on a Tuesday night to make the show. Unfortunately I can't really say I enjoyed it much. They were into their music but ignored the fans. There isn't much to see, and I strongly prefer the album versions of their songs. This is not a band to see live.

The band was absolutely amazing. The sound, set list, and onstage chemistry all made the show what it was.

Rarely does a band sounds better than their album counterpart, but Blonde Redhead pulled it off. The L.A. crowd was very respectful with wailing to the jamz and silence during the tender moments of the set... The transitions were flawless/effortless/suprising the crowd was hanging on every pluck of the guitar and attempted to predict the next song as if their favorite was always next After the encore and after the velvetty red curtains closed, I waited in the front for a chance at a setlist. My hopes quickly diminished as I could see nothing past the curtains and security started rallying everyone towards the exits. I kept my eyes on the tiny gap that centered between the huge curtains... suddenly a blind hand reaches out and I jimmy thru security and snag the precious piece of paper from the gracious hand! Beautiful and spacious venue+++

It was good to see blonde redhead again. The last time I saw them it was in 98 or something. I dug the new tunes. The warfield is too boomy for some I'd the more complicated synth textures. I liked it when they played their older stuff.

I was kind of upset at first because G/A had sold out so we were stuck with balcony seats, which aren't my favorite but I did not want to miss Blonde Redhead. The opening act was alright, I mean she had a very nice voice but too slow for an opening act, in my opinion. I was yawning :/ after that was done there was an intermission. When Kazu came out I was so happy. Her voice is so angelic and melodic, all of the songs performed live were exactly (or better) like the albums. They performed songs from"Penny Sparkle" and "23" plus a fantastic encore. I would definitely recommend this show to anyone, I plan to see them again when I have the chance.

Too sleepy for me....I think I yawned once or twice and left before the end. But that may just be me, as I'd never seen them before and only owned a few of their songs (the faster paced ones albeit). Just my personal preference wanting to dance more.

Beautiful ambience, taking me far away into a dream land. This is the first time I saw them live. Everything is skillfully done with a nice level of maturity, yet a good amount of freshness and curiosity. The quality of their sound and performance is consistent through out. The live experience they delivered exceeds a digital recording in so many ways.

I was in awe the whole time. The lighting and atmosphere was perfect. The songs were perfectly executed, despite a technical difficulty with Kazu's keyboard. I stood all the way in the front near Amedeo, which made it even better. It ranks high in my list of concerts that I have attended.

I have to say, the most notable thing about this concert was that the sound quality was perfect. The band sounded like they were lip-syncing (they were not). The music was spectacular, and was set at a really nice venue. The crowd was great too! Perfect night out :)

I've been a fan since "23", and, truth be told, was a tad disappointed with Penny Sparkle because it was a bit slow and meditative for my tastes.... or perhaps I was not prepared for that tack. Regardless, seeing them live was an absolute eye-opener. They are a GREAT band. (Sorry - I don't know any of their names!). The singer - sometime guitarist - songwriter is exquisitely powerful. From her very spiritual movements to her mesmerizing singing - or is it the other way around! - she is fantastic. The twins - drummer and (?) guitarist are truly outstanding - each equally fascinating to watch, and totally in command from a performance point of view. They were both exceptional. There was also a terrific bassist. Their stage presence was exceptional, their playing abilities tremendous... and holy crap - these "kids" can rock like there is no tomorrow! An exceptional concert experience - I've been to about 100 over the past thirty years. (btw - get there late - the back-up "band" - a loop "artist" - sucked. He sounded like someone just learning how to make tape loops... when they are bored. sorry bud - just telling it like it was.)

Small, intimate venue had me 5 feet from the stage even when I arrived late. The lighting was dramatic, the sound levels surprisingly good for such a small space. Blonde Redhead puts on a great live show, playing favorites beautifully and slipping in just a few from the latest album. Makino has an enchanting onstage presence. Pantha du Prince helped set the mood of dreamy energy.

Blonde Redhead was absolutely amazing, there just wasn't much support from the crowd. I think this was only because they are so underground, thats why they didnt sell out. But I loved all the room, I hate going to shows that are sold out cause the pit is way too crowded.

Very little crowd interaction from the band. While I do not expect the cheesy "Hey St. Louis we really like it in this town," something would have been nice. I was quite surprised that they did not perform "Equus." Pitchfork listed that in their Top 500 tracks of the last decade. It's a great song with a lot of energy. It's often the only Blonde Redhead song people know. It's on samplers that get passed out.

The event started too late to be Sunday. The first songs were not easy to appreciate. From the middle to the end, the concert was great!!! The drummmer was unbelievable!!!(five stars!!!) About the singers: she was not so good as she can. He was great. I would recommend to this music band to play more "hard rock" songs.

The show was great. Blonde redhead played songs from a mix of albums, and the back-lit light show added to the magic of the night. Sometimes it seemed as though the crowd was lit more than the band. Grade A experience.

While the music sounded good, I paid good money to go to "SEE" a show. The band produced this fog (at their Magic Stick show in Downtown Detroit) that made them literally invisible on stage, which was a huge disappointment. I could have stayed at home and "LISTENED" to the music. I went to "SEE" the show. HUGE disappointment and they would have to pay me to go "LISTEN" to them next time.

I've been listening to them for years now, really loved their groove, and finally saw them at The Music Box. It moved me so much that I got together friends to go back with me the second night. It was even better. The new album is enchanting, and their performance built up to a nice jam. Mad lyrics. Gracious. A dream you never want to end. They stay with you.

I have been lucky enough to see them 3 times now I believe and this was the second time at VP. I enjoyed it very much. This album is more heady but it still rocks, can't complain. They still did some favs from 23 and Misery. I got close this time to get some pics. I'd love to see them fill a bigger place. I read that they like to play loud and a bigger place would suit them nicely to blow it out more, when they get to rockin' What else can I say, if you like them or music anywhere near their style, this show is for you. Go see them if they come near you. I hope they make it back soon, but it will probably be another album away. Is it too early to call for a BR cover band to service the Atlanta area? I have seen ones exist for Metallica and Dave Matthews, one can only dream. I'd be happy with a nice concert Blu-ray to tide me over! Blonde Redhead rules! Lates.

I went to this concert having not heard their latest release. Wireless technology is never a good idea. Kazu's in-ear monitor failed, and there were no floor backups on stage. She sang out of key, off tempo and often conflicted with backing track. I love their studio stuff. I advise anyone not wanting to be completely disenchanted with this otherwise amazing musical act to steer clear of live events in the future. It was a pretty strong setlist other than the lack of my personal favorites. It seemed like it was heavy on tracks from 23. I didn't hear Misery is a Butterfly, which is pretty much my favorite track. Also there was no In Particular.

I have seen BR 5 times now and they seem to get better every year. Such a truly gifted group of musicians with years of good material to choose from - I simply Love this band! This was our first trip to the Sinclair and I was very impressed with the quality of sound and stage visibility - both on the floor & in the upper level. Also the staff was friendly and the drinks were good (I did not try the food). Considering that it was a Monday, the house was packed and the audience was fully engaged. The band seemed to be truly enjoying the show and the overall experience was excellent. In summary, a perfect concert.

I was very happily surprised with the show. Was expecting it to be on the mellow side, but was very energetic. Only tinge I didn't like is that the guys from the band kept signaling the guy from the console to change the levels in their mics. The guy never got it right. Another thing I didn't like: they started playing a song and she stopped it and said "no wait, let's start again, this song has to be perfect"... However, good show, bottom-line.

One of the best concerts I been to. The energy from the band was great and the sound was ok. The set was great and the opening bands I will say Great! Only thing I did not enjoy is the set was kind of short about an hour there was not enough Interaction with the crowd...and being said the crowd sucked. Everyone was just standing there not rocking out I mean maybe they could of played more of their upbeat songs...but I guess thats how Cali fans are...me bein born there but from nc I am use to ppl having fun in the crowds..all in all it was great except for those two stupid DJ's full of them selves playing uncool mashups of songs they made on their lame Macs.

This was a great concert. Strong set list for Blonde redhead. They started once again with their best song (IMHO) and opener Black Guitar. Set the mood for the night. Love their new album btw. The El Rey crowd was very pushy though. I have to admit that I couldn't thoroughly enjoy the concert because I caught a glimpse of the MOST attractive female at the show. short pinned up hair in the back, sexy secretary glasses, soft white shirt, very slender build, style was her middle name...ahem okay, so the show was great.

Blonde Redhead are simply great. Love them. They played a great set of songs, mostly from Penny Sparkle and 23, but with a couple earlier tunes too. Sound was good. The El Rey is really great for seeing bands as the venue is small but not cramped, so everyone can see them clearly.

I've loved these guys for awhile now and hadn't really had a chance to hear the new album. Hearing all of them live was the best way to fall in love with all of them. The overall design was of stage and lighting was great, plus they came out for 3 encores I believe. Only thing that sucked was one of the security guards at the Warfield, he was a rude douchebag, completely the opposite of how the entire night was, not the bands fault. Can't wait to see them again!!

So, let me start off by saying that Blonde Redhead is one of my favorite bands, but I keep my wits about me and am not star struck by seeing my favorite bands live and am not completely enamored by Blonde Redhead's new album. Having said that, both the band's stage presence and design were completely fantastic. I loved the lighting. Very nice equipment and very tastefully used. Considering this concert took place in Denver, the altitude messes with a lot of bands who aren't used to it. I have seen Blonde Redhead a few times before and can say that, although they seemed much more well rehearsed than previous times, I do think that they fell short in a few technical areas as far as audio levels and technical prowess. They came out of the gate very strong. The first five songs or so sounded fantastic. After that point the guitar work got a little sloppy and Kazu's vocals started cracking like in their older albums. I think that her occasional inability to hit those high notes is part of her sonic charm Kazu even apologized at one point that they didn't sound all that great. Everyone cheered. No one, including myself, seemed to think that they sounded bad, I am simply being picky. They played the most fantastic mix of their music (15 years of music) of any band I've seen. They didn't just hammer out the songs for their new album and go off stage. They came back for two encores and kept mixing up eras of their music. All and all I really enjoyed myself. And despite the minor issues, most of which I'm willing to chalk up to not being prepared for the altitude or just one-off quirks, I think the tickets are worth every penny. I will continue to be the first one in line for Blonde Redhead tickets, as they never cease to put on a fantastic show with a humble attitude. They set their expectations of themselves so very high that even when they fall a short they still amaze.

Wowie Zowie...the sound was perfect. you could hear every note from every instrument and Kazu's vocals......OMG, cant even think about it without getting all teary eyed from the beauty of it all! The brothers never missed a beat. Lots of improv that I wasn't expecting, that took many of the songs to new places. My wife thought that Kazu's voice was somehow being processed!...the sounds seemed super-human...Angelic

I have been a fan of Blonde Redhead since 2000, I have seen them live 4 times now. It has been a pleasure to watch & listen to them grow musically. Their performance at the Showbox Market was flawless, they sounded perfect. They had great energy and stage presence. Their setlist was meticulously crafted and flowed smoothly. The lighting was very innovative and inspiring. Their audio engineer also did an amazing job. I am an audiophile and very picky when it comes to live sound, and I would give the sound a 10 out of 10. Very clear, the reverb and delay settings on the vocals were perfect, and the dB level was exactly where a live show should be at; loud enough for the bass to churn your guts but not overpowering to the point of hurting you ears (or needing ear plugs).

I have been a Blonde Redhead fan for a long time and think they are one of the most talented and innovative bands ever. However, their new album is just like their new special effect on stage. . . foggy. Their previous album, 23, had several songs that had that same dreamy like quality, but each one was distinct and interesting. The songs on Penny Sparkle all seem to run together and sound the same. Which leads me back to the live performance. They did play enough of their old songs to liven up the show, but the set order of songs seemed disjointed. All in all, I am such a hard core fan, that I really did enjoy the show, but just not nearly as much as the previous shows I have attended. Blonde Redhead has an amazing ability to reinvent themselves, so I will wait to see what comes out of this trio's genius!
