Jane's Addiction

JANE’S ADDICTION IN CONCERT:Alternative rock pioneers Jane’s Addiction have awed fans with superior musicianship and over-the-top showmanship for more than three decades, and they’re still going strong. The band's potent blend of alt-rock, metal, and punk is pure sonic boom and their live shows are equally explosive, flooring fans with full-throttle funk metal shredding and far-out visual spectacles. Flamboyant frontman and Lollapalooza founder Perry Ferrell commands the stage with cocksure rock star swagger, pumping up the crowd with wild-eyed intensity until they reach a blissed-out state of rock nirvana. Superstar guitarist Dave Navarro is equally magnetic, shaking fans to the core with his high-octane riffage on scorching favorites like “Stop”, “Been Caught Stealing”, and “Mountain Song”.

I have been in the stage lighting industry for over 35 years and have done many gigs at IMA and have also done gigs with all 3 of the top bands on the bill and I am truly saddened that it is closing down so I thought I better get to a concert, the entire evening was so much fun, the way the grounds were set up was very cool and all the bands did an amazing performance...

While this show pales in comparison to the ultimate experience they preformed in Detroit long ago at the Fairgrounds on 8 mile which will live in my mind forever...it was enjoyable. Freedom Hill had something wrong going on with the sound but Perry's voice still conquered the adversity of the situation. LOVE JANES!!

So it seemed to me that the combination of the two bands left a bizarre crowd. Half were there to see one band, half to see the other. The music however was awesome. Trent Reznor is so intense, and Perry Farrell such an entertainer.

This is what hard rock is supposed to be. Nobody does it better. Perry was in prime form, Avery and Perkins were foundation-shaking and precise, and Navarro handled the orchestration with stunning deftness. Pulling off anthemic gems like Three Days and Then She Did live on stage is a testament to these guys' ability and dedication. Easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. Even singles like Jane Says and Been Caught Stealing took on whole new dimensions with Avery and Perkins keeping things slow, heavier than heavy, and hitting every downbeat with special intent. Most band play everything too fast.

I was shocked at how the band came together for a solid muscially sound performance! It was as if they didn't miss a beat! It was a show that made you want to dance from beginning to end - and dance I did!!! The arrangement of "Jane's Says" was surprising - a funky version of the steel drums - just as eclectic as the band. I loved the opener of "Three days." I would recommend the show to friends!!

For the price my friends - I thought the show was anemic. Up front I could barely here Perry's voice over the instrumentals. Someone threw up on my feet (flip flops). Nice. I thought for the amount of money that was charged for these tickets there should have been a much longer, more passionate venue. Just felt kind of mechanical. (sigh) But.....the people-watching was phenomenal! Vast range of ages, hippies, beautiful people, not-so-beautiful people, soccer moms, kids, wastoids - you name it. And an old flame to boot. It was fantastic!!!

I recently attended the Jane's Addiction concert in Columbus. This band's reunion is the real deal. Heavy alt rock delivered by a fantastic rhythm section, competent guitar and over the top outta sight vocals. The drummer and bass player knocked my sox off; these guys are great and know each other's moves. Dave Navarro's guitar--often sort of Edge-like--was great as main band melodic instrument, but his solos were not awe-inspiring. Perry Farrell's singing, however, was the real deal and his voice often served as another instrument--not just a word vehicle. Mr. Farrell's dancing, vogueing, talking with the audience and spritely moves around the stage were immensely entertaining. Very cute in his gold jump suit with wide silver belt, he was often spinning around like a puppet on strings. Difficult to fully describe, Farrell's moves add plenty to the enjoyment of this act. I consider Perry Farrell to be one of the top 5 or 10 front men I have witnessed in 40 years of concert-going. The band delivered all the hits from its 90's heyday. Most of the audience knew the words better than me. The only low note of the concert was JA's performance of "Been Caught Stealing", which the band appeared to mail in. I swear that Dave Navarro appeared to play the first verse of the song in the wrong key--maybe on purpose, dunno; I caught him and Perry exchanging a look. But even after Navarro got on track, the band just appeared to rush through it, making it a muddled mess. I guess every successful band has a popular song they've played a million times that they just can't stand any more. Like usual on this tour, they closed with "Jane Sez". This song allowed the band to change the pace, come out to the front of the stage together and bring a warmer bent to their music. Everyone sang along as rain drops began to fall. The concert ended on this jubilant but melancholy, wet note. If you are a true fan or even just a casual fan of JA, you need to catch them in concert on this tour.

The band was energetic, entertaining, and seemed to be having a ball while playing GREAT. The problem? They only played for about 55 minutes!! And that's after waiting in the venue for them to start for over 3 hours. My friends and I were overall glad we went just to get out on a Friday night, but considering the prices we paid when all was said and done we felt a bit shorted w/the lack of play time. When the curtains went down, we kind of stood around waiting for them to come back on - figuring Perry was just doing a costume change. But then the staff at the pavilion started telling us to move out, the show was over...??? I hope the fans who saw them with NIN got a little more out of those shows than we did. I still love Jane's, but I don't know if I'd pay to see them again.

I have been waiting for years to see Jane's Addiction, so when I heard they were touring, I knew I would be going to see them, even if Columbus, Ohio was a four-hour drive for me. Let me tell you, the show made the drive soooo worth it. The band was tight, the energy was intense, and Perry was in top form. It was obvious that the whole group was into their performance and not just "going through the motions," as is sometimes the case with reunion tours. I was really pleasantly surprised by - and very pleased with - this venue. It was much smaller than I would have imagined, which gave the show a very intimate feel and made for some great energy between the audience and the band. Not a bad seat in the house, so to speak - it was great! I would never hesitate to make this drive again for a show that I really wanted to see. I think smaller venues always make for a better concert experience!

Does it really matter if the band is back with all original members if the sound at the LC pavillion was awful? I could tell the vocals were incredible, but not because I could actually HEAR them!! The music, although good, was WAY overpowering. Not sure who to blame....the band's crew or the venue's techs, but it was impossible to enjoy the show without a stronger vocal presence. Definitely not for lack of effort on Perry Farrell's part. The lack of energy from Dave Navarro didn't help their cause either. Disappointing. And, in hindsight, understandable that it didn't sell out before the day of show.

I loved that it was general admission! We were able to see Jane's from any part of the venue. It was a very intimate setting so you felt like you were part of a private show. The facilities were clean and fully stocked. (Most venuues not only do you have to worry about no toilet paper but you have to worry what you may catch if you accidently sit on the seat.) Concessions were great and reasonably priced. The drinks were actually worth the $7.00 spent. We had a memorable experience so much that we will go back to see concerts at this Venue. Ok so now about Janes!!! This is the second best show that we have seen. They played all of the great songs. I couldn't believe they ended the night with Jane Says! The weather was beautiful and at the encore it started drizzle. A perfect ending! We danced in the rain back to our cars. A wide varienty of fans attended. It was cool to see all of the different people that like Jane's! I would reccommend this show to everyone.

Perry Ferrell commanded the stage, crowd and venue last night with an intensity that I've rarely, perhaps never, seen. These guys delivered the goods in a major way. A must see tour de force. Money very well spent in Detroit Rock City - easily one of the best cities and venues to see a Rock & Roll show. Amazing what a truly gifted multimedia artist can deliver with a classic like the Fillmore to frame but not contain the show - they rocked the house and blew the doors off no doubt. We were the ones in the very back in the rafters dancing our asses off, making new friends and waving the hat in the air! See ya soon at the Palace in Louisville - can't wait and thanks for a unforgettable night...

In 27 years, Jane's Addiction has never disappointed, and this show was no exception. The theatrics were incredible and every single member of the band gave 110% to make it an unforgettable show. I have always wanted to see Janes Addiction and considering I became a fan a little late in the game, I never thought I would see the day. I was jealous my boyfriend got to see them in 1997...but he didn't get to see the original Janes line up. So when I found out they were having a last min. show in Virginia I scooped up some tickets fast! We were lucky said the man checking the tickets because we had seats M 18 and 19. seat 18 was right next to the ledge where the lights and video recording of the show are performed. seat 19 started all the way on the other side of that. Janes Addiction opened the show with their most EPIC SONG EVER, "Three days". It was electric and hypnotic! That song is always best live. My favorite was "Ted just admit it" because they used to giant movie screen to play repeated footage of old time burlesque dancers and a women exhaling smoke from her cigarette. That sogn was amazing as well. Actually, every song was perfect! They played everything I wanted to hear. and of course they ended the show with "Jane says" everyone at the venue was singing along. I must say it was one of the best live shows Iv ever gone too. I would see them again in an instant!

Absolutely nothing less than late 80's band showing pure polished presence at a outdoor event. Once Mountain song hit the air the crowd came alive with baited breath for Perry Ferral's next lyric. This is hands down one of the best shows I have seen years. Kudo's to the old school who can still bring down the house.

Jane's Addiction is one of the few legendary bands that haven't lost an ounce of their mojo. How many years have they been together? Since the age of dreadlocks and wacky, loud outfits were in style... essentially, since the time I started to walk. But watching them on stage just took me to back in the day when I used to rock by my clock radio in my bedroom. I'll admit, it's hard to break old habits so that hasn't changed, and neither have they. Perverted, talented, wild, and trendy, JA did their own thing as they always have, and everyone just followed. Zombies. Then the record player abruptly stopped. House lights came on and everyone stood around waiting to see what happened next. The crowd was mesmerized by the classy, clean sound of "Jane Says" and then it was over. A couple of minutes of absent band members and rushing staff taking things apart, gave us the hint that we should get going. Impressions of the night shared the same denominator: we gave so much to see JA, it would've been nice if they gave just as much back. It felt routine, nothing special, and we understand it's easy to get jaded and tired after a while... or a couple decades. My message to the boys: though we appreciate the long hours of writing and the unique talent you possess, fellas, remember that when we see you, it's like our first time--every time. Don't just come home to us, throw your keys on the counter, and tie on the floor. Surprise us, spice it up, romance us, give in, and we'll do so too. Make tonight special. Then again, it might just be exactly what you wanted. I guess I fell for it. As a woman, you left me wanting more. :)

All around, this was one of the best concerts I have been to. Street Sweeper Social Club was a great opening act. They got the crowd moving and keep them dancing. NIN, as always, was amazing. Playing songs from so many albums was a treat to the audience. Can't say I ever expected 999,999 as an opener. Jane's Addiction....so glad I got to see them before they broke up...again (give it time, it'll happen). Perry is one of the greatest front-men I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. Living Color's sound was awesome! I dug the bassist he rocked. Dinosaur Jr. their sound quality was over powered by the guitarist and you couldn't hear a word they were singing. Jane's Addiction was on point from top to finish. Loved they played the album from beginning to end. With an always favorite Jane Says to finish it off. Good show , while it lasted! Played the entire album, engaged with the audience, theatrics with dancers, good lighting effects. No Jumbotron. 50 minutes later "Good night NJ"!! Then back for a four song encore. With breaks, intros, and bows it was about 1hr 20 min! There was a rain delay and I heard there was a city ordinance foe no music at a certain time but nobody said that so not believing it unless I here they play longer at other venues. There also were some sound mixing issues with the lead guitar and vocals sometimes being too low.

I used to think Dave Navarro was amazing. I used to think Steven Perkins was even more amazing as a drummer, but I think I realized on Friday that Perry Farrell totally makes this band. The guy is a spectacular performer, totally plays to the audience, doesn't seem to mind his picture being taken, and really seems to be having fun. They all did. Perkins at the end threw his fists up in the air like he just won a marathon. 90+ degrees in Coney Island that night. Their musicality and showmanship is hard to beat. There's no one like them, in terms of sound. And then there were the girls who danced, the two women who swung from their back skin during Nothing Shocking - freaky, made your skin crawl, but a ton of fun. The only negative thing about the show was the ability to hear the vocals. Perry kept indicating to the sound guy at the beginning of the show to bring his vocals up, but I don't think they ever really got it perfect. Dinosaur Jr never got it right. And when the audience tried to tell the band that the vocals were not coming through well (as earnest fans), the bassist told people if they want to hear the vocals they should move back. Dick move in my opinion.

We were standing right against the stage and it got a bit crazy but well worth being crunched by all of the other loyal fans that were there to enjoy the show and have a good time.

Band arrived late, started late to a sold out general admission crowd. Played great, but too short. Dave Navarro (love him) looked bored or angry or both.

An amazing night. We were center on the rail. Couldn't believe I walked in n saw center rail open. Didn't expect that cause I didn't go real early to wait in line. Perry was so interactive with the crowd. Perry's wife was also so nice. It's so awesome when the band appreciates the fans n JANE'S ADDICTION did in PHILLY

Great show on a beautiful night. Perry was in good form and the band seemed to enjoy it more as the night progressed. Crowd was thinner than I expected but perhaps it was due to the reschedule. Good energy from everyone though. Three Days was epic....Mountain Song and Ocean size just destroyed. I only wish they'd played longer. I love watching Perkins bang the drums, pure energy. 75 minutes for a non-festival show with no opener was a little disappointing. I looked up there concert history and i guess they alwAys play 12-14 songs, almost every single show since 1988. Pearl Jam has been around almost as long as these guys and they play 2 1/2 hours every night! Anyway, the performance was excellent and I'd see em again.

I was really looking forward to this show, but when the date got changed last minute, my excitement lost some steam. Then, they started over a half hour late and played only for an hour. To top it off, they messed with my favorite song...I understand they're probably sick of playing Jane Says so maybe need to make it new for them, but it's such an iconic song that I just wanted to hear it the way I know and love it. All in all, it was a good show, not a great show. The dancing, flying and hanging-from-their-flesh woman were random and unnecessary, but did keep with Perry's weird-for-weird's sake persona.

This was my first time seeing JA live, and I've been a fan for over 20 years now! The venue is amazing-essentially anywhere you stand you are near the stage. Jane's Addiction played songs from literally every album- and played them all fantastically I'm a happy girl!

This was the best Jane's concert I have ever seen, and one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Great atmosphere and no mean people standing around me which is rare for a standing room only venue. So epic when the balloons and confetti dropped at midnight! I love the House of Blues!

The opening act was not so great (Die Antwood a group from South Africa) ..but nonetheless when Jane's Addiction took stage and it was great! they played the classics like Jane Says, Classic Girl & Summertime Rolls...their energy is amazing on stage, Dave Navarro had great solo bass moments that were AMAZING! ... the venue was good for a band like Jane's Addiction anywhere you stand is great.

Great venue, fantastic seats, wild crowd, and most of all, a one-of-a-kind band that still offers a sound (and plenty of sights) unique in the world of rock music. Perry Farrell was in fine form and even though his vocals were set a bit too low in the mix, they still soared over the unmistaken guitar wail wall of Dave Navarro. The thundering drumming of Stephen Perkins was spectacularly steady in laying down the foundation as always. The set list was a celebration of over two decades of cutting edge music singularly Jane's in nature. Everything you would expect to hear was there along with a very pleasant surprise inclusion of the epic 'Then She Did' which built from its slow, hypnotic verse to an explosively rousing choral climax seven minutes later. The one slight letdown was the exclusion of 'Irresistible Force' from their latest album which had been part of the encore according to previous reviews, but that's splitting really fine hairs. I can't imagine any Jane's fan or actually any open-minded music fan leaving the concert disappointed - the lighting, stage design and alternately erotic, humorous and shocking visuals (both live and recorded) were all top-notch. The fact that it was Jane's Addiction performing on top of all that, and still at a very high level, made it a truly standout rock and roll show.

Before the show I was regretting springing for "pit" tickets as my seat was the last one in row three on the far right .... but it turns out stage left is ware Dave Navarro spends most of his time this tour ! Score ! and Perry was of course everywhere ! they played all the goodies including a special stage set up (like a cozy living room) for my favorite J. A. song "Classic Girl" ... so much better than the last time in Tucson with Dinosaur Jr. and all those stage candles ...but I digress .... not long after Classic Girl they had a drum line up with Dave in the lead and of course several songs had XXX elements in the background "Nothing Shocking" to us fans ...pun intended ! You gotta see this tour and the closer to the stage the better !! they put on one hell of a show ! all the hits are here ! and how do they look so young? -laters p.s. the opening band was also good with an animated female lead Liela Moss and unfortunately this ( Tucson ) was their last stop with J. A.

I got to the venue early due to having general admission, I always make sure I am there early enough so I can try to get up front. Being very excited to see Jane's live, I was even more ecstatic because I also won passes to a backstage jam session from a radio station. The doors opened up and I was able to go into a private room for a few songs up close and personal (AMAZING). When that was done I rushed back down to the floor and with in a few minutes the band hit the stage and the show began! Perry and the guys started entertaining from the start. They really get into their music and always put on a great show. They involve the crowd and throw off amazing energy. One of the best shows I have seen!

I picked up a 2nd row center stage single ticket at the box office the day of the show. What are the odds of that? Got there early and security said they were allowing people into the pit. So I left my premium seat behind and took a spot at the corner of center stage and catwalk. A guy in a chair came in behind me and blocked me into my corner. So there was no crowd to deal with in the pit. It was like my own private concert. The only problem was that where I stood was so far forward I was behind the main speakers. So the sound sucked. I couldn't hear the vocals or guitar. :( The opening band (The Duke Spirit) was alright. Nothing to write home about. Jane's was awesome. Fantastic visuals. Dave and Perry really seemed to be having fun. For me the music was all bass guitar and drums. I could hear a little of Dave's guitar and virtually none of Perry's vocals even though I could often just reach out and touch him. Despite the sound, I wouldn't have moved for anything. After the first encore I looked Perry in the eye and hollered 'one more one more...' He asked if 'I knew how hard this was'? I replied yes this is my first night out in 20 years. He bent down and checked my story, just separated from a 17 year marriage. So he called out to the audience to find me a woman... As a bonus, after the show, a guy behind me sent me some pictures he took including one of Perry and me as he called out to the audience. Anyway, what a night! I couldn't have prescribed such a series of events. Sorry this review wasn't more about the music, but my experience wasn't really much about the music. Wish it could have been. I've been a huge Jane's Addiction fan since the early 90's and I can wait for the next tour!

I loved how interactive w/ the audience and personable Perry was! Very charming and lovable guy! And the girls doing the little show up in the corner was HOT!!!! Sound wise, HOB Orlando def had amazing acoustics and the band themselves sounded pretty damn good, I must say. Better than I thought they would. Before seeing this show, I just didn't really think they were that great of a live band. I assumed they sounded better in the studio. But Perry's voice has still got it. He was right on w/ pitch, inflection, timing, etc. I had a blast! It was over too damn quickly!

This was my our first JA concert. I didn't know what to expect. I certainly didn't expect most of the Ritual de lo Habitual songs to be played and I could only dream that Three Days would be played. The band play was damned entertaining. Perry Farrell was just like a kid a full of energy! My wife didn't know much about JA but left feeling like she saw a great show which we did. As with all great shows you don't want them to end.

Of course we do. Nothing's Shocking and Ritual are two classic albums. Ritual was played in its entirety, and "Then She Did" was a personal highlight. Janes only plays for 80 minutes so don't miss the show by being anywhere else but your seat when they are onstage. As musicians, Dave mailed in his solos a bit and the camera had too many shots of the keyboardist. They should also never close with "Jane Says". Ending with the previous song "Ted, Just Admit It" would have been a more powerful way to end the show. In regards to the Coney Island venue, general admission with seats is annoying. You don't need these chairs there. Also, do you know how to organize beer lines? The lines never ebbed throughout the show. Don't you want to sell beer and cold water at a show in the 90s? Come on. Also, they closed the bathrooms right after the show. We needed to go.

Awesome venue and sound/lights. Set lineup did not disappoint. Good crowd energy. Perry Ferrell was not as exciting as I had hoped for. Dave Navarro performance was killer, but he was in the shadows the entire show. The spotlight never left Perry, even when he wasn't singing - so it was the biggest disappointment not to see Dave better each time he was shredding on his guitar. Perhaps this was intentional, but it was a bad choice for the viewers. We wanted to see Dave!!! Dancing girls were lame. Any average woman could've outperformed them. Girls strung up through their back piercings who tossed themselves around like supended rag dolls were a spectacle, but that part of the act was gross and they were showcased more than Dave was. Overall the music was enjoyable and the venue was really cool.

Sonic boom. The four members of Jane's Addiction know the material and they know how to make the sum mean more than the parts. Weather moved this show indoors and it was beyond loud. The quiet moments such as Summertime Rolls were all the more powerful. A bit short, but amazing.

Janes Addiction brought their A game to the Paramount in Huntington ny. Perry Farrell is a total showman in his way of singing and prancing about the stage. He has a great rapport with the audience. The band was tight as always. Dave Navarro is one of the great rock guitarists around today. Stephen Perkins and Chris Chaney provide a kicking rhythm section. I have see the band more then once and every time it was a awesome show.
