Kate Nash

Kate Nash was born in 1987 in Dublin and grew up in northwest London. An aspiring actress in her youth, Kate studied drama at the London BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. A twist of fate in the form of a broken foot left her bedridden and while incapacitated she revisited some unfinished songs she'd written when she was younger. Convinced of their quality, she gigged for a while and published some of her material on MySpace, including the track that shot her to fame, “Caroline's A Victim.

Overall? Kate Nash is an amazing performer and includes her crowd in everything from crowd surfing to stage invasions to even invading the crowd herself and dancing with various people as far as her mic cord could reach! She included songs from every album, which was enjoyable. And the only bad parts of the night were scuffles between fans in the front where I was, but security took care of it after three complaints and the disruptive fans were escorted out. Otherwise the entire event went off without a hitch. Her openers were amazing as well and set a perfect vibe for the night. She even came out and sang with Skating Polly, the first band. The best part of the entire night was when she stopped and gave a 5 minute speech about female empowerment in the music industry and just life in general. It wasn't like she was getting on her soap box and abusing the time she had with the crowd. It showed that she really, truly cares about the cause she stands for, sings about, and works on constantly. I will definitely be following her for more news on her next American tour.

There was no bad seat in the entire venue. Kate was out watching the opening band and even joined up for their last song. Her performance was super energized. She sang new and old songs and kept the flow of the concert going. Great show, would absolutely recommend seeing her live. She sounds just like her albums if not better live.

I was really disappointed with this show. Not only was she being a little bit of a diva, but it was also extremely short. The music itself was alright however it was frustrating to watch and listen to her complain between every song. I'm glad it was only $10 because otherwise I don't think I'd feel I got my moneys worth of music.

I love her music and I'm glad I got to see her live. Her newer music was a bit more rock than her first album, but nonetheless I still liked the concert. I also got to meet and greet her and she was very nice!

The sound wasn't great. Could hardly tell which song she was singing. I think she sounded good, but the acoustics and production of it all drowned her out. Bummed out.

The show was decent. I wish she would have played more than 2 songs from her first album. I know everyone has complaints about setlists and I know she's trying to have a different image and seems to be shying from her 1st album a bit but that album is so solid. I wish she would have played more period. 1 hour setlist??? She came here last time with only 1 album and still put on a full set (1.5 hours), now she has 2 so she should have filled the time. When that screen came down after she left the stage with no encore.. it was totally lame. At least come out and do a 1 song encore! I thought the show was decent. The crowd wasn't as good as last time it seemed though. Buying tickets the day they went on sale for 3.50 prior to fees was great and for what I paid I was happy with it.

No encore!?! What the Hell? Very little previous material, the new material although very good is best appreciated by listening to the CD as the sound quality at this venue sucked!! So the two stars are not for Kate's performance but rather the poor venue. Cheers!

I expected a much better performance from Kate Nash. First of all, it was extremely short, show only lated about an hour. She played a ton of music from her new album (which I can see why), but cd only came out 2 weeks ago and I bought this tickets months ago before I even knew of the album. The opener, SuperCute, is only as good as their name sounds.

This was not one of the better concerts I've been to. First, the opening band was 45 minutes late, and when they finally came out, they only played for 15 minutes. This was some band I had never heard of called Supercute, a group of three pre-teen girls that would be more at home with the Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus. After they were done, Kate Nash took another 45 minutes to come out, and while her performance was not bad, it was certainly underwhelming. At least the tickets were cheap.

I didn't understand why Supercute was chosen; they were awkward & too young to be performing. If they had been good but young, I would've enjoyed it. But I did not appreciate their music. The conjunction of Supercute & Kate Nash was quite strange to me b/c they were so severely contrasted, yet Kate Nash tried to justify Supercute's presence @ the concert through repeated advocacy for them. The concert didn't jive; it wasn't cohesive as a whole. Also, Kate Nash was quite unfriendly & seemed annoyed to be @ the concert. She was very angry throughout the concert. The show was extremely short; barely 1 hour long. I know Kate's ankle hurts, but I was definitely expecting a more dynamic, upbeat, much longer show. Overall, I had a good time w/ my friend, but the show was disappointing.

Maybe it was because I was upstairs where the liquor was flowing, but people were talking so loudly that I couldn't hear Kate at all. Don't come to a concert to drink and talk to your friends and not listen. I don't need complete silence, but it is rude to the artist and to the other audience members. I was really looking forward to seeing her live. Her piano skills were amazing to watch, even though I couldn't exactly hear the music! There were a few songs that I really wanted to hear, and as far as I could tell she did not perform them, but again...hard to hear.

Overall I was pretty disappointed in the preformance. First off the show didn't start on time, then after the opening act there was over 45 minutes of set up time for before Kate came on. Kate came on obviously high. Her newer music is so angry and rock styled that it is a dramatic change from the witty upbeat fun lyrics of her first cd. The drum was turned up way to loud making the vocals pretty hard to hear. Kate only played for about 40 minutes and did NOT do an encore, which no one was yelling for her to do. Overall, I had to drive over half an hour home, and was still in bed before 10 p.m., what the heck, Kate? I really expected more, why so angry?

Amazing AMAZING Amazing. She tours about once a year in the USA, and she gives it her ALL when she gets here. MH of Williamsburg is an awesome venue - small, but not tiny. We were right up on the stage, singing along, and Kate shouted out to us!! Good drink specials too - everything on tap for $3. ALSO, recommend Bedford street, the street the venue is off of. ABOUT A MILLION SUPER COOL AND AWESOME BARS, and everyone out on the streets. DO IT. see KN. love her.

Kate Nash came out with crutches because she hurt her foot but she was still amazing and beautiful even as she hopped back and forth from the keyboard to the guitar. She was so sweet and cool and her vocals were amazing. She belted out the songs with so much energy. It was such a fun concert. She played songs mostly from her new CD (My Best Friend is You) with the exception of Mouthwash and Foundations. Hearing her play the new songs made me love them even more. At the end she signed CDs which was amazing. It was so fun to meet her.

Honestly, I left this gig a little disappointed... There's no doubt Kate Nash is a talented artist, but I felt like the barely 1 hour performance she gave wasn't worth the hassle of traveling to nyc, suffering through 2 horrible opening acts, & waiting nearly 3 hours for her to perform. I'll cut her some slack, because she was on crutches for a foot injury. If she was in pain, she didn't show/sound it and alternated between sitting and half kneeling to perform. However, we did wait nearly 45 minutes after the opening acts for her to take the stage. Her vocals and instrument playing were consistent with her recordings and she performed with emotion and showed gratitude towards the audience. Her fellow band mates played well, also, never missing a beat. As for the opening acts...The 1st act, a British man, (couldn't catch his name)...was a lot of screaming with little variation. I couldn't understand a word he sang & was left without a clue as to what his message was. The 2nd act, Supercute, a trio of 13-15 yr old girls in sparkly outfits, sang about hula hoops and candy, "shh"ing the crowd...I understand everyone must start somewhere & good for them for putting themselves out there so young...but I heard no vocal talent from them & the performance was equivalent to an elementary school talent show, which I think the majority of the audience was too old to be interested in.

The first singer on this evening was the guitarist of Kate Nash. I think his name was "Brad" and some of his songs were really cool, he rememered me on Jamie T. from London. Than came Supercute, this 3 girls (maybe 14 or 15) were funny and in some years they are no more the hula hoop girls! And yeah, I bought the cd and support the way of Supercute :-)! Kate came with here cratches on the stage and I like Made Of Bricks, but I had no idea of here new cd. It was sometime a little bit strange, not what you would expectet on such a concert, but interesting. I like some of here new songs and hope she will not take to much of the drugs :-)!

All I can say is "wow". Lamer opening band followed by screaming, over-bassed "singing" I could barely discern...is this the Kate Nash I know and I love? Clearly I fell in love with the CD, not the musician. Totally bummed, not at all sounding like the music on her album.

Kate Nash is absolutely amazing. I love her even more than I did before after attending this concert. What was great about it was that not only did she put on a wonderful show, but she also made sure to engage the audience. She talked to us about the stories behind some of her songs and also about the work she's been doing to fix the gender gap in music, which is really cool. For her last song, she invited girls to dance on stage with her and crowd surf. It was such a great experience and I would repeat it over and over again if I could.

We went to this concert expecting a unique show because we don't often get to see women as a headliner and Kate Nash has taken our expectations of live acts to a new level. She took the time to chat with the audience, make them feel part of the show with crowd surfing, played a little from all of her albums and her band is AMAZING all of the women were excellent musicians I wish they would have played some cover-songs because they really have such talent we didn't want the show to end it was so fun and energetic and positive.

Kate Nash and her band put on a great show with great music and some pretty cool banter with the crowd as well as a cool, crowd surfing moment for some of the ladies in attendance near the end of the show. I found the moment that Kate led two grade school aged girls on stage so that they could get their opportunity at surfing to be be very touching.

I was so excited to see Kate Nash, I rearranged a work trip and drove from Michigan to catch her show. I was hoping to hear a lot of her music from Foundations. I had downloaded her most recent, Girl Talk, but really really loved Foundations. The sound was absolutely terrible. For not really knowing any of her newer music, I could not understand any of it (and she was serious about only singing it). I hung around long enough to hear the song "Foundations" but was disappointed. I could have taken a friend who had never heard of her and they would not have appreciated her music at all because you could not understand any of her lyrics. I have been to shows at A & R bar before and never have I noticed the sound to be so terrible. I saw Eric Hutchinson there last summer and he sounded great. I love Kate Nash, still listen to her at home and in my car and in the future she will stay just there. Terrible live show...

She had great energy, and it was clear she was enjoying herself and having fun -- which, in turn, helped the audience to have fun. But my friends and I -- and I think this goes for a large majority of her audience -- were there to hear her classics, her older stuff, which she barely played any of. (The ones she did play had a punk-rock beat added in -- they weren't true to form). Plus, the wait time was a bit excessive; she didn't come on stage until 2 hours after the ticket time.

Saw the amazing Kate Nash Wednesday night and to say she was awesome does her an injustice. Her connection with the audience was out of this world, combine that with the new punkish sound of her new album provided an interesting and fun mix. I can't say enough how much I really really enjoy her performance. Plus the fact I as able to hang around and get a pic with her afterward was just was the perfect nightcap . If you ever have a chance to see her live and enjoy her sound I encourage you to do so. You will walk away amazed and mery merry happy.

A friend introduced me to Kate Nash last year (the song "Dickhead", which, while she did not play it, she did remark how amusing it was that her concerts are one of the few acceptable places to shout DICKHEAD at somebody). I was fond of her bitingly funny lyrics and indie-pop based leanings. I bought a ticket to see her before her new album (Girl Talk) came out, and gave it a listen the night before the concert. Her album (and thus, the lion's share of the show) was much more riot grrrl and punk rock than bouncy, piano, indie pop. While this isn't normally a style of music I listen to, I actually enjoyed the energy and intensity that the punk ethos brought to the show. Her all-girl band was sharp and punchy, complimenting her sound well. While I didn't know most of the songs (as I'm sure few in the audience did; her album had just been released the previous week), it was still fun to just rock out. Kate has a great rapport with her audience, and is very funny in her responses to shouting fans. She forgot the words to the second verse of Foundations, but whatever. If you've only listened to Made of Bricks, or are prone to "IT'S DIFFERENT THEREFORE IT SUCKS", sit this tour out. If you aren't easily butthurt and enjoy seeing an artist's changing expression (and aren't vehemently anti-feminist), check her out.

I had been sick for a week and pulled myself together to go to this show. Man was I disappointed that I wasted the gas and a night of going to bed early watching bad tv. First of all, I got to the venue an hour late because I had no interest in seeing the opening band after previewing their "sound" on youtube. Like the rest of the audience, I not only manage to make it before the opening act went out, but I was standing around for over an hour waiting for them. Their set was blissfully short 7 songs, yes I counted. The last song had the bassist saying "meow" over and over into her mic. Just...bad. Well it was okay because KATE NASH was going to come on! The girl with the snarky attitude, cute dresses, great accent and wonderful music! The musician who's CDs have been on loop in my car for weeks at a time. This is what I kept telling myself for the next hour or so that we stood around waiting for her to come on. Ms. Nash FINALLY made an appearance around 11 pm with her "girl gang." The girl gang should have been my first sign to leave. The second should have been the first screaming, guitar fueled shriek fest into the mic. The third should have been the fact that by 5 songs in people were leaving, no one was dancing, no one was singing, between every song people were yelling out song suggestions. I took the screaming of songs to be a helpful hint to Kate that her devoted audience were not the sorts of people who generally enjoy screaming lyrics and just WAY too much guitar. Speaking of guitars, could she have switched guitars more frequently?! You really need 4-5 guitars to play 10 songs? Well I kept thinking: I'll just hold out, she has to play Foundations, Mariella, something to redeem this! She's got to have an acoustic guitar someone. Then it happened! Foundatio...OH GOD NO KATE!!!! Foundations comes on and she's made it punk, indie, Brit rock. I stuck it out and thankfully I don't remember how the butchered versions of the 3 older songs she sang went. I will say that when Kate actually sang, her voice was beautiful and she has amazing lyrics. I understand that artists evolve and change, but this just seemed so forced and contrived. I have a hard time believing you go from England's Zoe Deschannel to a reject member of The Runaways. I have never been so bored at a concert. I have never seen so many people leave for such an established artist. I have never so badly wished for a power outage.

Kate Nash played almost all new songs from her most recent album. Although people seemed a little disappointed that it wasn't as much of a sing-along as they'd like, it was a good show. Kate's music has changed considerably over the last few years. No longer is she the innocent London girl who wrote some cool lyrics about her youth and relationships. Kate has gone much darker and her music is more hard rock than anything else. I couldn't understand her lyrics as the bass drum and guitars were drowning it out.

I understand that artists evolve and that their music often changes over time, but it would have been nice if Nash had played more songs from her first album, Made of Bricks - since that is the album most people know (I think this statement can be verified by the crowd response. Everyone was dancing, singing and excited when she played "Foundations", whereas the crowd was pretty quiet when she played her newer songs). A better integration of her newer and older songs would have improved the show. And fewer covers - especialy when there were unplayed songs fans really wanted to hear

We arrived in Portland on a rainy night. Soaking wet, we walking into the Wonder Ballroom. First we heard the unforgettable Peggy Sue, who were amazing, and totally worth buying a CD which I got signed by all three of them after the concert! Then, she came up. KATE NASH. This concert blew my mind. Nothing could top it. Best night of my life. The sound was amazing, and she was just as good live if not better than the CD's. She started out with the crazy awesome "I Just Love You More" which really got the crowd excited, and ended with an encore of "Pumpkin Soup." All of it was just incredible. Even the extremely wordy "Mansion Song" was a favorite moment! She just poured her heart and soul into these songs, and it was worth it! Its 5 months later, and I STILL can't believe I got to go see her! GO NASH!

Kate Nash in concert, at the intimate Showbox at the Market, was even better than I expected. She connected with the crowd, made jokes, poked fun at herself and, most importantly, rocked out. Her range in music styles wasn't tampered live, it was made better -- from the screechy "I Just Love You More" to the sweet, plaintive "I Hate Seagulls," Kate knows how to deliver with that amazing voice and playful stage presence.

Kate's style has evolved steadily over the years, and is now a kind of psychedelic rock feminist punk mix. Still very quirky and British, but a long way removed from her Made of Bricks days. Personally, I think it's great! I've been a fan since all the way back when she had about 400 Myspace friends, and finally getting to see her live was well worth the 7-hour round trip. Kate and her all-girl band played a 90 minute set with great energy, and had a nice bit of banter with the audience between songs. She's on tour promoting her new album "Girl Talk" so of course that's where most of the songs came from, but there were several old favourites in the mix too. I'm guessing it must be pretty frustrating for an artist to have fans continually just asking for stuff from your first album (6 years old now!) and she dealt with it with great humour. I was talking with the folks over at the merch table about Kate's recent trip to Ghana in her new role as global ambassador for the charity 'Because I am a Girl'. One of the things I do like about Kate is that she is keen to use her fame and influence to help strive for a better, fairer world. She gave them a quick plug in one song break, and there were a few flashing 'Protect a Girl' bracelets visible in the audience, which was cool. The Paradise is a small club with no seating. Walking around, there was a noticeable change in audio quality depending on where we were standing. The balcony had the best combination of sound and view - guess that's why the reserved sections were there! Overall, a fantastic evening. Very intimate venue and a great performance!

This was my third time seeing Kate Nash and it was my third time leaving the venue absolutely in awe, wishing the set never ended. Never have I seen an artist so raw, real, and truly invested in the energy of the crowd. Kate had me singing and dancing along for the entire set. Her girl gang of Fern Ford, Emma Hughes, and Linda Buratto are true talents. The new album is one of the best I've gotten my hands on since "My Best Friend is You". The beat, the lyrics and the messages are the reflection of a TRUE artist. Bottom Line: Kate Nash and her Girl Gang put on one of the best, if not the greatest, shows you will ever see. Do not miss the rare opportunity to see them in action.

She was such a great performer and connected with the audience. She has an AMAZING voice live, she is no phoney. She kept it upbeat the whole time, and sometimes she would tell us random stories about her day or about the song and that really showed her personality. And her adorable British accent is awesome too!

The venue was really pretty, but the time they took setting up between the opening act (Peggy Sue) and Kate Nash was way too long (about 1/2 hr or so) so my feet hurt like hell by the end of the show, because there weren't any seating. The Peggy Sue's were ok. Just another chick British band. Kate Nash would've been wonderful if she hadn't done some of her weird angry metalish songs. She needs to stick to her piano charm. She's also a bit dorky, but it adds to her charm =)

Nestled inside San Francisco s very own former vaudeville theater since the prohibition era, Kate Nash was in town Saturday night as she started the second leg of her North American tour. I was surprised to see that arriving only 30 minutes prior to the concert, I was able to stand fairly close to the stage since the audience only filled up the floor section in an otherwise small and intimate venue. It seems that Nash doesn t really get much love here in the Bay Area but managed to garner a large following of preteen and teenage girls that comprised the majority of the audience whose screams were quite on the ear-bleeding side. Nash donned a bridal outfit drenched in fake blood and peeling skin as she walked onto a Halloween-themed stage full of jack-o -lanterns and light bulbs galore. Pillows representing clouds hovered over the stage set while thunderous sounds emitted from the speakers as Nash made her entrance. She picked up her electric guitar and started with her first number, I Just Love You More, a piercing rock song where she hypnotically wails and shrieks on many levels the song s title repeatedly. Nash set a rather aggressively harsh tone for the first half of the show, something new for fans accustomed to her more pop-rock piano friendly type of songs from 2008 s LP, Made of Bricks. Nash s new arsenal of indie rock songs from this years album, My Best Friend Is You, made for a fast-paced, heart-thumping show as she performed dirty bubblegum-pop singles, Kiss That Grrrl and Doo-wah-doo . She was also very sassy performing these songs as she held a coy expression as she would deceptively croon I will think up a 1,000 ways that I can hurt you, and you will never touch my hand. Oh, and don t get me started on her ever-charming Cockney accent. During breaks in between songs, Nash wasn t afraid of being intimate with the crowd, especially when she explained that she didn t shave her armpits to get into the Halloween spirit. Towards the later half of the show, Nash veered from indie rock toward soft sentimental balladry, which confused some of the audience. Usually an artists builds momentum during a concert; Nash seems more comfortable taking intermittent breaks in between high-energy segments with mundanely deadpan songs like I Hate Seagulls and Mansion Song . It was then that Nash took herself too seriously. The audience became polarized as some started interrupting her during I Hate Seagulls while others would tell them to shut up. Though I do understand that a change in tempo makes for a more refreshing listen, the drastic change from infectiously catchy songs and animated performances to complete blandness and stony songs is just too much of a disparity. During the last few songs, Nash was able to redeem herself as she performed classics from her debut album, Made of Bricks. The audience bawled in excitement as they heard the first single piano note from Foundations , which was the highlight of the night. The polarized audience then meshed together again as we all sang along. The end of Foundations featured a brilliant guitar riff that was absolutely breathtaking, which harmonized perfectly with Nash s adept piano skills. With a few minor squabbles aside, Nash definitely put on a show. Even during her most mundane performances, she still expresses a certain candor that is necessary in engaging an audience, which creates for a more-than-satisfying concert experience.

I was certainly wary of the new album "My Best Friend Is You". After all, her debut album "Made of Bricks" was hard to live up to, selling almost 60,000 copies its first week alone. "Made of Bricks" had a track list of poppy tunes with attitude--songs that you got stuck in your head and were happy to have them there. However, this album is different and experimental. Nevertheless, he cleverly written lyrics are still present and that's what makes Nash who she is. However, seeing Kate live made it impossible NOT to enjoy her new tracks. She opened the show with "Paris", the first track from her new album and I'll confess that I had been hoping for an even distribution of both albums and wasn't the least bit disappointed when my expectations weren't met. She played old favorites like "Foundations" and "Mouthwash" that were welcomed by her audience. But the new tracks were stuck in my head the moment I left the venue. .Dressed in a leather jacket, she's got that RiotGrrrl attitude that makes you want to embrace your inner (or outer) independent woman. She performed "Mansion Song" a poignant rant about the treatment of groupies along with some self-proclamations about her womanhood. The track at first can leave you put-off, but when you really listen, it's the most female empowering statement I've heard. When she's playing her keyboard it's impossible not to be in awe. She's a genius with music; making the most simple chords into an amazing song. Regarding the new album, I have now been brought to the other side and couldn't be happier.

I go to concerts all the time and Kate Nash really stands out. She was happy to be there and comes off as a genuinely kind and humble person. She wasn't afraid to interact with the crowd A LOT - talking to us and dancing with us. Her voice and energy could fill a stadium...and the best part of the night was when she set up someone's wedding proposal....she sang "I Hate Seagulls" that got everyone teary-eyed, and brought a woman on stage who proposed to her partner. She also invited everyone on stage to rock out with her. It was a magical night and everyone was feeling positive and happy along with her.

Saturday night was all about girls that ROCK! Three opening acts follwed by the best of THE BEST, Kate "I got skills that'll make you ill" Nash. It was the final night of her tour and it was AMAZING!!!! The set list was certainly one created for Kates fans. Covering tunes from her earlier works to her most recent endevor it included something for EVERYONE! These ladies all have remarkable talent. As was reflected when each one was given an oppertunity to show off their talents when Kate introduced them. Well done band mates! Its a very rare thing these days to go to a concert and have the band your there to see make you feel more than welcomed and appreciate your presence there enough to put on a GREAT show for you. Thank You Kate! Would I recommend this show..., HELLS YA I WOULD! Rock On Girl Gang, ROCK ON!

it's been a long time since opening acts to a show have made me ALMOST happier than the main event itself. both opening acts the Starlight Girls and la Sera were amazing and great live, high energy. but no one could rival Ms. Nash and her witty singing/playing style. Best was that there were 2 encores, crowd surfing, mini feminist rant, and a little fan party on the stage. i only wish there was more room to dance til my heart's content!

Took two hours for Nash to play. Buono sera was good but potty mouth was awful. As for Nash, Guitars and drums drowned out her voice. She seemed to enjoy screeching more than properly singing. The venue was way too loud. I should have brought ear plugs. They kept flashings lights on the crowd which made my girlfriend and I nautious. She has a few great songs which I enjoyed hearing and she has incredible stage presence but the concert production around her was basically a mess.

This was my first time at Terminal 5 and I must say it was a great venue! The acoustics were fantastic and even tough I was towards the back I was able to see everything due to the height of the stage. Kate Nash's first opening act "Supercute" was decent. After they performed "Peggy Sue" came next. They were amazing. After that, was Kate's turn. I am a huge huge fan of her. I had seen her earlier in the week in DC at the 930 club where she put on another phenomenal show. She has so much energy and you can tell how thrilled she was to be there which is always a treat. Her live sound is just as good as her recorded sound, if not better. This was the most exciting and fun concert I have ever been to.

Kate Nash was just okay. The songs she preformed off the first album were sped-up and sounded rushed, the vocals on all the bands were hard to hear, and the first opening band, Supercute, was lame. Peggy Sue, the second opening band, was amazingly talented, which sort of made up for it.

I am a huge Kate Nash fan, but this concert was not at all what I expected. First, it took nearly an hour between the opening band and Kate Nash to come on, which was a super long time to be standing around. This would have been alright, except a fist-fight broke out in the crowd!!! Come on now, this is supposed to be an indie-chick pop-rock singer! A fist fight?!? Really!? When Kate Nash finally went on, her first 8-9 songs were awesome, but then she went on a screaming rampage, which I think was supposed to be poetry, but I really could not understand what she was saying and why she was screaming the same words over and over again. This lasted at least 10 minutes, maybe 20, and then Kate Nash FINALLY got back to the good music (songs like Foundation, Kiss that Grrl, etc.)
