We rode the Tide into Downtown Norfolk from the Military Station. We got off across the street from Scope and went right in after enjoying the outside entertainment. Our seats were a bit high but we had a good vantage point from which to see the band formations. The dance and bicycle troops added a nice variety to the performance. Next time we go we may try for lower seats. Utilizing the light rail, the Tide, enabled us to enjoy the event without having the stress of traffic and parking in downtown Norfolk.

I usually don't like bands with a lot of brass, but these military bands changed my mind. Amazing talent in the Armed Forces. I did expect the International Tattoo to be more "international" (more nations), but the countries that were represented did a good job. It's a very patriotic show. Thought the Juliana Bicycle Team from the Netherlands was a bit out of place, but they were amazing performers, so all good.

It was very entertaining and I have wanted to see Tattoo for many years. Great music, choreography overall a wonderful way to spend a sunday afternoon. I did miss the Air force not being there since all other branches of the service were represented.

It was a great show - very Patriotic! We saw a Tattoo in Nova Scotia years ago and that one had more military bands and maneuvers - they actually built a jeep in the arena and drove it away! I guess I would rather see more things like that, along with the military bands. I thought the bicycle troup from the Netherlands were fantastic!

This is a spectacular and dramatic and touching and happy event. I absolutely love it. BUT .... the mikes were amped up WAY too loud this year. It was painful. You have to back that off a little bit. AND -- what about the Stars & Stripes??? You ALWAYS do that. It is one of the best things. Why didn't the band (mixed-band) play the Stars & Stripes???? I LOVE this event and I've come every year -- and I will come again next year if I can -- But please don't make those chorus people shriek at me, and please play the Stars & Stripes.

This performance was unbelievably professional. Every performer was outstanding and the coordination of the bands from so many nations in the combined performances was not to be believed. If you have any interest in military bands this is a show not to be missed. There are also many amateur bands represented as well as some additional acts of interest.

My wife and I were privileged to see the 2012 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2012. For her, it was the highlight of the entire Scotland vacation. But this tattoo was, in the music if not the setting, at least as good and perhaps better. not the spectacle of Edinburgh, but, oh, the bands and their music! Superb. We will be back, though this experience will be hard to top.

Goosebumps, emotion, and patriotism....if that doesn't get your day going, see your doctor....From the start, enter the massed bands. From my count, 200 pipers, a 50 man drum line, and that was just the beginning. The diverse talent presented made the two and a half hour show fly by much too quickly....I would have preferred more pipe music and highland dance, but you have to have the Dutch mounted bicycle corps with their specially designed horns. The on screen program was equally stimulating, concluding with a stirring spot from General Colin Powell....A great show....our third....there will be many more....

This USA version of Tattoo definitely rivals Tattoo in Edinburgh Scotland. Extremely well organized with nonstop musical entertainment by a variety of quality Pipe & Drum bands from around the world interlaced with all the US Service bands. High energy performance from start to finish. We feel fortunate to have experienced this event and certainly look forward to a repeat visit.

This is a wonderful event featuring bagpipes, marching bands, singers, dancers and even bicyclists playing trombones! An international extravaganza featuring performers from around the world. Only one negative: I think that Scope arena needs to work on its policy about seating customers. We entered using our tickets, got our programs and that was the end of the conversation. No assistance at all from an usher within the arena. This is a huge venue seating more than 10,000 people. It would have been nice to have an usher available to help direct us to our seats. Latecomers had a hard time, and blocked the sightlines for those of us who were already seated. Other than that, great event.

This was our fifth TATTOO. Each one seems to get better and better No weak performances or great disappointments. The opening performance was deeply moving, including the wonderful singing of the National Anthem. The Finale was equally stirring, including Gen. Powell's address and "Thank You" to our service members.

This was my first time attending and the entire show was captivating from start to finish. They did an absolutely beautiful dedication and the variety of bands and performers was just amazing. We are Drum Corp International Fans and have been inspired by this youth activity for many years . . . .This was highly anticipated by us and we received more that we had expected. it was out first time there and will definitely make it an annual pilgrimage. It was the most emotional patriotic international event that could ever be assembled. We were so inspired that we actually went to the Sunday show after we saw the Saturday performance. We already ordered our tickets for next year! . . .I now have this as a don't miss event!

I can't say enough to recommend this activity. This year was the 20th anniversary for the Virginia Tattoo and they went all out to make it a special evening. The chorus of hundreds of voices accompanied by hundreds of band instruments was awe inspiring. We brought visitors from out of state with us, and they both agreed that they had never before experienced an evening like this. We will be back.

Perfect mix of United States Armed Forces representation and international groups. Actually, bought tickets for the event when I found out Top Secret was performing. Very impressed with the level of talent, skill and professionalism of all the featured artists. Was especially interested to see the Jordanian Armed Forces Bagpipe Band. Saturday afternoon they gave a very moving impromptu performance and tribute to the United States and Virginia for which we gave them a standing ovation.

I thought the entire event was excellent; my wife and I attended the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland this past August and we thought yours was on the same level. Well organized, top level talent, and a diversified venue. We enjoyed the Grade I and Grade II bagpipe competition. The drum line competition was unfortunately a disappointment. To rate the ODU band over the Top Secret Drum Corps is an embarrassment. Although ODU was entertaining they couldn't come close to the skill and precision of this very talented group. Most of the spectators agreed with my comments.

I am military, I have Scottish heritage, and I used to be in marching band. This concert was absolutely perfect as far as I'm concerned. I'll go every year that I am able. Mid-level seating was the perfect position for the Tattoo, because you can see everything, and are in a good position to hear everything. I wouldn't want to be too close to this event.

I never miss the VA International Tattoo. It is so well orchestrated and performed. It is inspiring to see the various countries coming together to honor our military and our nation. Though I must admit, the massed drums and pipes bring me back each year, as well as the bag pipe performance of Amazing Grace. If you haven't seen the Tattoo, you should see it at least once!

This was a long overdue event for me to attend. I had heard so many good things about it. I was very impressed with the entire performance. The "Mass Band" finale was more than what I anticipated. They played my favorite song to close the show "Scotland The Brave". The wife and I will go next year. Can't wait!! Bravo Zulu!!!

The 2014 Tattoo is a great event for the first time attendee. Having seen the five star 2010 Tattoo, which I would rank second only to the Edinburgh Tattoo, it is clear that this year's event is scaled back. Each performance was well done but the international participation was less than usual. USAF Drill Team was one of the top performances. The Mass of the Bagpipes is both unique and stirring.

My wife and 4 friends really enjoyed the Tattoo. Since I had been to the Tattoo in Edinburgh last year I was pleased to be able to go to the largest Tattoo in the U.S. without an international flight. Additionally since I had recommended it to out friends, I was glad that it did not disappoint. One of my group is a Vietnam Vet with his wife. They were very moved by the tribute given to all Vietnam Vets and allies. My personal favorites were the bagpipe units, the Irish dancers, the Air Force Drill Team and the vocalists that performed "Danny Boy", Mst Sgt Eaton and Staff Sgt Terry. I do highly recommend this event. I only gave 4 stars because I had been to the Royal Edinburg Military Tattoo the previous year which has Edinburg Castle as the venue and backdrop.

Another outstanding year!! The salute to our Vietnam Veterans added to the patriotism. The Hullabaloo on the mall was great and the performance inside Scope was two hours well spent. Looking forward to next years event. You could not even tell they had to make last minute changes when South Korea backed out due to the ferry disaster.

My wife and I look forward every year to the arrival of the Virginia International Tatoo. This year was no exception. Every year there is something different to see. The pre-Tatoo show on the mall is always interesting. The portable grandstands are a great addition. You can sit down and enjoy the entertainment prior to the arena access. Truly great family entertainment.

The Old Dominion University Monarch Drumline and Flag Corps put on a great performance and did a great job of representing our area. The Reel Thing performance was great!! The Rhythm of Ireland dancers were an unexpected surprise. They did a great job Last, but not least The Juliana Bicycle team did some outstanding performance on their bicycles. Every year the International Tatoo comes up with new and refreshing acts along with their traditional performances from various countries. Well done again!! Will see you next year.

When booking our small vacations away, we specifically look for different events that we would not normally consider, and the Norfolk International Tattoo was one that peeked our interest....and it was spectacular! None of us, and there were 6 of us, have anything to do with the military or have anyone in the military, but we couldn't help but feel the emotion and pride seeing these fantastic men and women demonstrating their skills and dedication to their chosen profession.....as well as the pride of the former retired military in the crowd. And this trip turned out to be more than just the Tattoo, Norfolk itself is beautiful, so much to do and see, and we also visited, Williamsburg, York Town, The Botanical Gardens, and so much more, and I still don't think we saw everything the area had to offer.....we'd definitely go back again.

There's really nothing like it...you must experience it if you haven't already. I've been multiple times and each time, I'm stuck to my seat, watching in awe. The heart and devotion of these service members, wearing the cloth of their Nation is nothing short of amazing. Words really don't do their commitment justice. The poise, professionalism, and genuine wish to inspire the crowd is humbling and makes one thankful just to be in their presence.

The program flowed smoothly and there was a good variety. Was disappointed the pipes and drums did not play more. The group from Singapore was outstanding. The bands drowned out the choirs. Amazing Grace was excellent.

The performance was excellent. I really enjoyed the diversity of the performances and cultures. My only concern is the sound was really poor. I could not hear most of the singer's. There needs to be a better balance in the sound.

The sound system was terrible, which contributed to the totally uninspiring event. Have always looked forward to the Tattoo, but if this was any indication of future such offerings I'll look for something else

Show was very good. Facility left something to be desired. Cushion was broken down so was setting below the chair seats in front of us so hard to see. Pick something on the second row or higher.

The 2016 Virginia International Tattoo (as always) did not disappoint!!! The program was outstanding and as a veteran, very inspirational! I have attended the Tattoo held annually at the Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland and the Virginia Tattoo is quite comparable (minus the castle of course! Addendum: I have already purchased my tickets for the 2017 Virginia International Tatoo!!!

I've been to other Tatoo shows but this was the best I've seen. The military theme was terrific. I would HIGHLY recommend the International Tatoo to everyone!

I took my parents to see this show. Everyone was impressed with the performances and they want to come again next year. It is a great tribute to military bands from around the world. The cost is well worth the experience!

2015 was the first time we saw the Tattoo, it was fantastic so we naturally bought tickets for 2016. My wife and I both agreed 2016 was even better than 2015, we will certainly go again in 2017.

More than 1500 performers from 9 countries represented their countries excellently in an impressive, moving and awesome performance of music, dance, humor, military unit precision drill and a final tribute to all our armed services -- after the finale, there was not a dry eye in the house. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire day -- NATO Parade of Nations in the AM & pipe bands championship competition and Hullabaloo prior to the evening International Tattoo performance. We can't wait to return.

For our first Tattoo I was a little concerned about driving 1200 miles on a weekend for the event. I was so totally pleased and would have sat through a rerun immediately . I highly recommend the event and will return next year to do it again.

This was the second time I have attended the Virginia International Tattoo and I loved it just as much as the first time! It's incredible! I love bagpipes, which is what drew me to this event in the first place, but it's so much more! It's a wonderful display of the talents and sharpness of the military, the best music and incredible dancers. If I lived closer I would be there every year! It makes me proud of not only my own country and those who serve but what a wonderful feeling to spend an evening with the talents and military members of many other nations as well! It's impressive!

This was our first time at the tattoo. Wasn't sure what to expect- thought it would be military type bands competing against one another. WRONG! The various bands performed together. Several of the acts had over 1,000 singers from a chorus singing along with the music. It was beyond words! It is a non stop show of exactly two hours, no intermission. Words just can not express how wonderful it is. Lots of patriotic music and a good variety of other music, even a funny skit from the Netherlands. You can buy water outside before going into the scope for half the price of inside. We attended the drumline competition prior to the tattoo and that was fun also. There were a number of food and drink vendors outside on the plaza. Very pleasant start to the evening. If you like drum corp events, bagpipes or parades you will love this. We went on Thursday night (opening night) and it was about 70% full.

Just so, so fabulous! Very patriotic and so entertaining. Fine details and production values - you name it, they have it. Super performances from groups from literally around the world - this year from Switzerland, Jordan, Britain, Australia, just to name a few. Let alone technical achievements of the first caliber. Several military performances from all the branches. There is literally something for EVERYONE. And the caliber of the performers is definitely 5-star!! I cannot say enough good things about this show. It'll knock your socks off and maybe bring a tear to the eye while doing it..........

The tattoo had awesome quality and organization. Transitions from one act to another were fluid and flawless. All of the acts were world class. Performers seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as the audience!!! Paid $100. @ for these 3 seats. Excellent sight lines and sound acoustics. However, the seating is not spaced for anyone over 5"9". Many people seated sideways because their legs would not fit. Most uncomfortable arena that I have ever attended. I asked to be moved to a less expensive seat with more leg room. Management accommodated my request.

I cried, I laughed, I clapped along. It was a fun filled patriotic evening. Lots to do prior to the show - bag pipes played, food to eat and the artists mingled with the audience waiting to enter the Scope.
