Damien Rice is still one of the most talented singer/songwriter/musicians today. For a man whose lyrics reflect his attempts to work out his life issues, none can compare to the sheer poetry of Rice. His soulful delivery harkens back to his Irish roots and his poetic skill rife with similes metaphors imagery and allusions, compares to Ireland's darling, Robert Burns, who himself was no stranger to problems in the love department as both have lyrics that reflect a strong and heartfelt passion, but both also were not without their difficulties. Rice makes us feel and think, something that is missing from much of the current pop music available. Rice is a master performer who takes us on a journey and reveals his heart and lays it bare for all the world to see. Rices' natural charm and self deprecating humor and masterful delivery are highlighted by his playing four different instruments and incorporating a light show. I was mesmerized and sood in awe at Rice's musical and lyrical mastery. A great show from a great artist.

What an excellent show. It was so much more than just a man and a guitar. Even though that would have been great, he filled the venue with music. Using looping and multiple instruments, he left me amazed.

I went to his concert because of his voice -- his "i want to kill myself" and "it hurts so bad" voice. I loved his albums, and was excited to hear him live. But what stole the show, besides his monster voice, was his performance. He put on such a great show -- it was entertaining, emotional, and the last song (he played 10+ instruments and used a looping machine) was spectacular.

I've been a Damien Rice fan since his songs appeared in the movie Closer. When he announced a new album I was borderline schizophrenic in anticipation. I've never been disappointed with any project he's done, and his live performance was the best I've seen. I didn't think he was coming to Pgh and nearly bought tickets to his Nashville show - it definitely would have been worth the drive, but I'm thankful he was here in my hometown instead.

Exemplary venue with views galore of the stage. Excellent privledges to the concert goers: bring your lawn chairs blankets and picnic suppers. Performance was exceptionally energetic as a one man show. We ate drank and danced to the slow songs and enjoyed the whole of the crowd.

The concert was amazing, actually it was beyond expectation. Once the music is so peaceful and touching i thought it would be a quite concert, but Damien alone puts up a amazing show. Recommended for music lovers like me, but that´s a concert i won't attend again because he was extremelly rude. Refuse to take photos when i saw him outside saying he «doesn´t do photos» and in the concert he practically forbides the people to take pictures or whatever. I understand, obviously we are there for the music, but i mean: you wait so many years to meet him in concert, you spent money in a ticket and travel far so that he pretends like he is almighty and you can´t have not even a photo. I mean...the music is amazing, the concert totally recommended, it´s just the superstar ego that make me write this review. After all: it's the fans who put him where he is.

The Damien Rice concert in Prospect Park, Brooklyn was a magical & delightful evening & experience! Everything from the acoustics to the weather positively enhanced such a wonderful & joyful concert! Every single Damien Rice concert that I have seen so far has been stellar! Overall this concert was all things positive except one thing negative which was that the venue end time is 10:30 pm! Damien did his best to play to the very last second which was extremely funny & i was in total agreement with him & his message that he was not cool with the curfew time as well!

Damien Rice's performance was absolutely incredible! He commands attention, humbly, and gets it! When he came out on stage, the entire audience was quiet, rare for an outdoor event. I love how he interacts with fans. You will never see the same show twice with Damien, he always changes up his set list & he just keeps getting better and better! Great lyricist, talented musician.

I have been a long time fan of Damien Rice since he was first introduced to me on KCRW. I have followed his career ever since. However, this was my first opportunity to see him perform live. And he was even better than I expected! His musical performance was top-notch. He played a lot of the songs from his latest cd. And he played some of this older songs as well. In particular, his solo performance of 9 Lives was spectacular! (look for it on youtube). Perhaps even more remarkable and a little surprising to me is that Damien was very interactive with the audience and quite funny! This was the opening night of the Greek Theater (which is my favorite venue - thank you Nederlander). It was a little chilly - even Damien admitted he was cold. But it was a most memorable evening. I am thrilled that I had a chance to attend and I will not think twice about seeing him again. Damien is a very important musical artist and should not be missed.

The Damien Rice concert was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. The sound was incredible. The engineers and everyone who makes that possible deserve major kudos. I hadn't been back to The Greek since the last Damien Rice concert some eight years ago. I had forgotten what a special place it is. It is really lovely. The performance itself was unforgettable. I can't think of anything that could have made it better...unless it could last into the wee hours of the night ;-)

It's all about the music and the musician. We know how good that is. But when Damien walked out in a scruffy tee shirt, I knew we would have a remarkable evening, a "here we all are together, let's have a good time" event. He sang everything I could have wanted and told personal stories to go along with the songs. It was intimate and personal and universal just like his music, and fun and funny and Irish charming. The evening was freezing, he was ready to quit, but some thoughtful audience person threw a huge jacket on stage for him, and he carried on. The audience was loud and appreciative from the start and his fans had a unique and enchanting time. And we know how good the music is. He has been my number one artist for years.

I came up from Las Vegas to see Damien & was not disappointed one minute. He came out, just him and his guitar and he was amazing. His music live was even better than recorded. Not too many artists like that! It was very raw, deep and full of emotion. He was an INCREDIBLE guitarist and surprisingly witty. He told the story of most of the songs and talked about his life in Ireland. I took a very manly guy and despite my hesitance of how he'd like it (I thought it would be too chick/love song-ish), he might've loved it even more than me! He talked about it the entire weekend & is a huge fan now! I would see him over & over again. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. This is one of my favorite venues & the night was magical!

While there have been many artists I think are great and whom I've admired, I've rarely considered myself a fan. Damien Rice was one of those artists I've appreciated for years, but seeing him live has practically turned me into a stereotypical fan girl. He is not only a brilliant singer/songwriter, he is a performer capable of doing what very few can do - making an intimate connection with every member of his audience. I'll never again pass up an opportunity to see him live!

I have seen Damien Rice at least 2-3 times in the past and all his concerts are awesome but this one the best way I can describe it was raw and intimate. At first I was surprised he didn't have a back up band, but it turns out he doesn't really need one. It was like he was naked on stage by himself and intimate because of his conversations between his songs. Concert was magical.

This was by-far one of the best concerts that I have ever attended (and I have seen hundreds of incredible shows)....The venue was something out of a dream, like a castle with 70 foot high ceilings, and beautiful chandeliers; at one point Damien asked to have all of the lights off while he sang the hauntingly beautiful "Cold Water" = INCREDIBLE.

Just go see it. It is amazing to hear and see his raw talent. The dynamics of the show from the whispered lines to the deafening loops took me on an emotional roller coaster. From old favorites to new songs, each tune feels personal and real. Stage presence is confident but not cocky, witty but not wacky. There were moments where we all laughed and cheered and there were moments where there wasn't a dry eye in the room. Had the pleasure of spending a little time with him after the show and he seemed to be a really cool, humble guy. Fantastic show. I don't believe anyone in the audience was disappointed.

This was the first time I've seen Damien live and I can profess without hesitation that he is one of the most talented singer/songwriter/musian/artists I have ever seen. The performance was flawless. You could feel the emotion in every note, it was palpable! I was amazed at how, even with a full house of people, it could feel like such an intimate performance. He made it feel like he and a group of your closest friends were invited to a private show. The crowd participation was another impressive aspect of his commanding performance. His music touched my wife and I in the infancy of our relationship, and this was a birthday gift to her. We had an unforgettable night!

It was wonderful, except for the boorish crowd behavior (why do so many fans have to yelp out and shout at the musician--as if he does not have a plan?) But Rice's music was extraordinary, and he being acoustic and unaccompanied for most of the concert was a treat, quite unexpected... It was too bad this was his final concert tour, and he should come to the States more often. But nexttime, start before 10:00 pm and do not have such a weak opening act.

This venue is just terrible. After years and years of disappointments, I am done going there. The seats are tiny and way too close together. My second row seat was awful, I had to turn my head nearly 90 degrees just to see the music. Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Looking forward all I saw was a black curtain. And I was seat 7, not far from the aisle. It was ridiculous.

Quite simply: beautiful. Beautiful songs, sincere passion, and some humor. A man with a guitar making sounds ranging from acoustic and fragile to loud and looped and raging. Venue was horrible for the "intimate" setting he was trying to achieve with just him and his guitar. He played extremely quiet and it was hard to hear in the very back, which is where general admission was because of the seats he had reserved in the front. But he sounds just like his albums and hardly ever tours so I would recommend a fan go see him if possible.

So, I'm in my early thirties and have not been to a concert since I saw Raffi at the SMU campus when I was, like, 5. I don't like big groups of people (or usually just people in general) but I've been a fan for the past 10 Years or so and decided to step outside of my comfort zone. I bought these tickets the day they went on sale and have had anxiety for the past several months over the thought of having to go stand around in a large group of strangers. But, I did it. And it was one of the best nights of my life. I was so captivated by Mr. Rice's talent and showmanship that I could ignore my discomfort of being surrounded by people I didn't know and just be there. In a room with him and the music. And the whole thing was an almost religious experience. I loved it. The concert was amazing. Mr. Rice was amazing. The experience was amazing. Would gladly brave another incredibly uncomfortable situation again to experience it.

Aside from the juvenile folks next to us who insisted on stage whispering "SHHHHH" at other grown ass adults, this show was a total smash. Mr Rice is truly one of the most talented musicians I've had the pleasure of seeing in person and I can not wait to see him again. While Damien Rice has been my favorite musician for quite some time, this was my first time seeing him live. I would have been estatic just for him to sing two songs while strumming a guitar, but this show just blew me away. He did open with two acoustic and beauitulf renditions of delicate and cannonball, but his third song brought the use of a loop machine, incredible displays with the lighting, and just awesome musical ability, presence, and power. Every single person in the crowd looked at each other dumbstruck, having no idea of just how good it would actually be. After the third song I turned to my friend and said, "we've already got our money's worth of performance, I could leave now and still call it one of the best shows I've seen". With his charming personality, raw honesty, and passion in the music, the crowd was completely moved. The woman in front of me cried her eyes out. I know it sounds like I'm talking him up because he's my favorite, but every person I talked to at the show said the same things, even my friend who hadn't listened to Damien very much before.

Damien Rice is a humble, talented and mesmerizing performer. There are very few musicians who realize that the stage is there to be used in its entirety. Mr. Rice is all too familiar with how to fill it with his special personality, charm and talent. I flew in from Maine, so I could take my musician brother to this concert. Damien Rice is wonderful! Such an entertaining show: little jokes and stories, but still maintained his beautiful sorrow.

We went to Chi Town concert of Damien Rice. It was simply astonishing! The atmosphere was surreal. Auditorium Theatre has the best acoustics, we could even hear Damien's feet tapping on a floor. Performance was way better than an actual record. So many emotions, voice power and desire to play for 100%. There was constant interaction between Damien and Audience. Never experience that before. I also like the fact how sarcastic and down to Earth he is about his music. Fully recommend to go and see Damien live. There is the reason why each show is sold out every time.

Between his humor and emotion, Damien was everything I was hoping him to be. I could have stayed and listened for hours and hours.

I was a little bit skeptical about an acoustic show in such a massive venue, but it worked. His voice was amazing!

Damien Rice might think that he brings his audience down with the sadness of his songs but it is quite the contrary. The audience was on the edge of their seat the whole concert and ran by chills. The stripped down stage is also a nice touch. Damien Rice's voice was amazing and didn't disappoint.

Great, relaxed atmosphere. Excellent musician. No smoke (well, a little bit) and mirrors here.

Damien Rice is a consummate artist in every way. I think he would have delivered the same concert to an empty auditorium because he is so passionate. His voice is so beautiful and his tone so clear and rich. At times I thought "he doesn't really even need a microphone!" The added effect of a barren stage with the artist and his guitar was magical. The pedal loops were innovative and clever for the few songs he chose to emphasize in that manner. My only sadness was that a small group of us (~20) waited over an hour and a half after the show to hope to pay our respects and say hello and he did not come out. I eventually had to leave because my most wonderful friend who came with me began to have some significant back pain from standing so long. She would have waited longer for me but I did not want to ask it of her. I wish he had simply sent word that he would not be coming out, or that he would eventually come in which case most or all of us would have happily waited endlessly. I don't know if he ever appeared but I hope the few who were able to wait did get a chance to say hello, as we were there because of him, for him, and in support of him and his art.

Damien Rice was absolutely fantastic!! His artistry shines on stage. His music is captivating and he added depth and interest to the show, even though he was playing solo. Unforgettable! Would see him again in a heartbeat.

Damien Rice's entire show was acoustic. He did not perform with a band. The show was absolutely amazing! I would see him a million times over. It was worth the wait, he performed for three hours and came out for three encores! I would definately recommend this concert to any fan!

this is second time I've seen him, live, at the Orpheum. The first time was about 8 years ago with a big band and Lisa - it was perfection. This time it was one man show - no band, no cello, and no Lisa ( sigh) but I'm gonna tell you, in all honesty, it was beyond perfection this time. Sometimes I would realize I was holding my breath, in awe of the music, the raw presence of his being, alone on that stage and literally giving himself over to the music. It really was beautiful. Bravo, Damien, and please come back to Boston soon!

Damien Rice was absolutely outstanding, and used technology (effects) and dynamic stage presence brilliantly to give us a very full performance despite being only one person on stage for the entire set. Very impressive. On the ugly side: Between the audience AND venue representatives, this was by far the most annoying concert conditions I've experienced. We literally couldn't hear any words the open act sang because the sound man didn't bother to give them due volume; it was like listening to music from another room. Damien was loud enough (and was fantastic!) but during many many many quiet portions of his music, and while he was telling entertaining stories between songs, a good portion of the audience was talking, and more importantly, VENUE REP'S were sometimes talking full-blast, making it impossible for us to fully enjoy the show. This really surprised me; the venue serious needs to receive this feedback, because they really didn't deserve my money for the experience they gave me. (To be clear, the audience also cheered a lot at favorite parts of songs, and this is NOT what I'm complaining about; cheering now and then adds to the experience.)

Incredible music by the one man show of Damien Rice - no backup only lights and amazing lyrics, voice and guitar. He held it all together through 2 encores.

This was easily the best concert I have ever been to, and I can confidently say that I ever will go to (except if I go to another Damien Rice concert, which I certainly will). He is the most genuine artist out there. In between songs he would talk and tell stories. He was also taking requests like crazy. The effects pedals he used gave the concert an almost spiritual touch. He was using a loop pedal, distortion, wah pedals...everything. Also, one of the greatest things about the atmosphere was the way the lighting was set up. It cast this great shadow of him on the back wall of the stage which was completely mesmerizing to watch. Also, the lighting behind him turned him into a silhouette at times, and all could be seen was a curly haired figured strumming fiercely on the strings of his guitar. After the show, a few people and I waited around outside the venue. At first, the event staff told us to clear out (there were about 7 of us). And then one of them came back saying that Damien's manager said he would come out and talk to us for a bit. An hour later, Damien walks out, puts his guitar in the tour bus, and walks over to us and we chat for about 15 minutes. Incredibly interesting/kind person. I will never forget that night.

Probably the best show I have ever been to. Damien Rice is unbelievably talented and it was an honor to watch him perform. I have never really listened to his music before, I bought the tickets for my boyfriend for his birthday and I was enamored with his raw talent and musical abilities. His solo performance could shut down any over produced Pop show.

The title says it all. Damien Rice is outstanding. I have been to many, many shows in my life, but this one sits in the top 3, if not the very top of all of them. It is rare to be absolutely moved by a single man on stage with only a guitar, a mic, and some pedals. Outstanding. You could hear a pin drop in the theater, everyone was so intently listening. I will never forget this show.

I had seen Damien Rice back in 2007, which turned out to be a lovely show. Now that I've gotten much more familiar with him, the show was that much better. Not to mention that his banter had gotten much better since 2007. I was captivated from beginning to end, almost forgetting to breathe at times. Did he play every song that I'd hoped for? No, but that's not important. He created and intimate atmosphere at an amazing venue.

Damien Rice's voice is able to emote unlike anyone else's I've ever heard. Though his recordings are phenomenal, they are nothing compared to seeing him live. Watching his expressions, his physical manifestations of the words and melodies, and hearing his explanations to some of the songs made for a wonderful night. Glen Hansard's performance was the icing on the cake!

This is my first time seeing Damien. My wife saw him play with his band right after his break up with one of his band members who he wrote some of his songs for and to. I was expecting a moody night of music on the dark side. What I got was amazing music (yes it can be dark) with whimsical fun and funny stories in between his playing. So now I am not only a fan of his music but a fan of the man himself. He has an incredibly strong voice that filled the Greek amphitheater. Hearing him playing solo was an acoustical treat. My wife and I will endeavor to see him whenever he is in town.

This review will be short and sweet. Marketa Irglova opened for Ramien Rice, which was a very pleasant experience. Damien Rice gave an absolutely high quality concert (Solo) but he did not need any other musicians because he used all his talents to stand out and deliver. He's a great story teller and by that he was able to entertain the audience from beginning to end. The end of the concert was just amazing as an audience member got on stage and accompanied both Damien Rice and Marketa on the last song.
