Robert Plant

Robert Plant

Robert Plant, frontman of legendary psychedelic rockers Led Zeppelin, continues to build the band's legacy with his impressive career as a solo artist. In over 30 shows on his 2013 tour, he electrified crowds with the sheer power and extraordinary range of his voice, making every song, from classic Led Zeppelin tunes to traditional blues standards, seem like they were written just for him. With his band, The Sensational Space Shifters, Plant tears up the concert stage, at times singing like a scream and at other times sounding like a dream. A ticket to one of his concerts is like an invitation into his home -- intimate and extraordinary at the same time.

This was my 4th time to see Robert Plant. I have seen him with the mighty Zeppelin, with Page & Plant and on his own back in the 80s. He never fails to disappoint.

I have never been disappointed with a Robert Plant performance -- but this concert was an example of the musician that he has chosen to become... relaxed and ever-confident this show was both rewarding and fulfilling.

Wow! Can't say enough about the show last night in Little Rock. I am a huge fan. This was my 4th time to see Robert and he was better than ever. That voice is as incredible as ever. The band was superb as well. The harmonies were amazing, their voices soared. You will be entertained.

First time to see Robert and the experience was a little surreal. The crowd was expectant since this new Band of Joy has no music to sample. Not to fret. The program was salted with some Plant/Kraus tunes from Raising Sand and a number of classic Zepp tunes. Not to downplay the new BOJ stuff, it was ALL GOOD!. Overall, the band was tight and the country undertones offered a different slant on the Zepp numbers. Overall, a very good show that is worth seeing. Hell, Robert is worth seeing! PS:The opener was brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson (N-MS Allstars fame) doing a duo (guitar and drums). Great classic MS blues tunes, real roots music, done exceptionally well.

He was fantastic! After 40 years of singing with him on the radio, albums, cassettes, and CD's, a dream came true when I got to sing with him in person. I felt like I had died and gone up the "Stairway to Heaven."

A Step back, a step forward. This man continues to enjoy and think outside the edges to create an enjoyment that started in 1968. Still sending the strong energy that has been there for43 years . His dedication to blues and our musical fathers continues to amaze. We are all in a better place when we visit Plant.

I was really impressed with Plant and his band on the opening of his tour. Could have had a few more Zep songs mixed in, but I loved the transition between music styles. Loved his comment that the Band of Joy would be back in 43 years! Also - North Mississippi Allstars DuoLuCo rocked some serious North Mississippi Hill Blues! Hard to believe that a duo act could make that much sound!

This was one of the 3 best concerts I have ever attended! The level of musicianship of the members of the Band of Joy was wonderful. Robert Plant retains the quintessential male voice of Rock and Roll. Plus, what the North Mississippi All-Stars can blast out as a band of 2 members is remarkable. Great, great show and it was very good to see a wide mix of ages from teens to geezers all in love with the music.

Saw Robert and the Band of Joy last night on the first night of the tour -- I have no accolades strong enough to say just how fabulous this show is!! I have been a Plant fan since Zep days, and have seen Robert at least six times in various groups. He is truly amazing, gifted and funny. The Band of Joy is wonderful! Patty Griffin, who sings with Robert, has an astounding voice. If this show comes anywhere near you, run don't walk to get tickets. You will not be sorry!!!

I saw Led Zepplin in 1973 and Robert Plant's voice still has the range. Incredible. The crowd was really excited and showed their appreciation on every song. It shows what great fans we have in Memphis and I'm sure Robert Plant and his band of Joy won't forget that. Great new songs mixed with some of the old stuff. For any one who chose not to go you missed out on a living legend you may never get to see again.

What a privilege. First show by a newly formed group featuring such large talent. Robert Plant's voice is sooo strong. His stage presence is dominating and undimimished. Sweet harmonies (still jelling). Haunting guitar sound complementing reworked traditional renditions in a modern almost rockabilly-meets roots sound was very entertaining (whew!). Will buy this CD.

I really enjoyed seeing Robert Plant at the Orpheum. He still brings so much energy and passion into his work. He has a good stage personality... very likeable. His band was comprised of super precise musicianship. He mixed a few if the old Led Zep tracks along with new material. He seemed to be really enjoying himself the whole time. It was a throughly enjoyable concert. I hope he will cone back in a few years for another round!

At 61 Robert Plant can still rock with the best of them!! It was an amazing night at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis, Tennessee where Plant opened his Band of Joy Tour. I feel honored that he thought of Memphis first!!! Like he said during the show..."there are a lot of firsts tonight." First night of tour; the use of his first band's name (Band of Joy); new label,(Band of Joy); first time drink between sets...uhmmm. The play list was extensive lots of Led for the old set, Now and Zen, Raising Sand, new stuff from his upcoming Band of Joy release. It was great pairing with Patti Griffen adding her vocals. And legendary singer/songwriter, Buddy Miller on the guitar working the rifts! The whole band was absolutely great - talented musicians, all of them. Robert Plant still has it all vocals, moves, music and a mystical power that will always set him apart. I hope he keeps the solo act going for a long time. It is some of his best stuff!

Very good show. The majority of the show emphasizes the new material, but he included some of his earlier solo material and a few Led Zep songs. Sound quality was outstanding, but it was at the Orpheum Theater so I would expect no less.

Complicated
I went to see him because he is/was 25% of Led Zeppelin, and my son is playing thier songs, and wanted to go. I did not expect a lot of LZ songs, and thought it would be close to what it turned out to be. He is moving in a new direction, kinda rockabilly I guess they call it. His four LZ tunes played were a good jump in the new avenue he is walking now. Enjoyed Misty Mountina Hop, and Rock & Roll. My problem was with the sound. It was bad, and that is not Plant's; or the musician's fault. I have been going to concerts for 40 years and have seen some great acts, but they are only as good as their sound guys. Maybe the sound was great on the main floor, but not upstairs. I COULD NOT HEAR THE DRUMS, and could barely hear the steel guitar or acoustic guitars. The damn Bass and Electric smoothered the other guys. Vocals were too loud but they had to overcome the sound guys version, of the bass and electric. Just too freakin loud to even hear a equal mix. And he had good muscians who deserved to be included. Maybe it was where I was sitting; but the mix was one of the worse I have ever heard. I was in the Mezzanie, extreme right side. All that said, Plant himself was very good. A very gracious, conversationalist, who appeared to appreciate the people and recognition. So don't take these remarks of the sound, as a slam on Plant. If you do, you are misguided.

Another excellent Robert Plant show. Packed house of enthusiastic fans. Robert Plant and The Band of Joy let it all hang out. Robert mixed the set well with something to please everyone, he performed songs from all phases of his catalog, Songs from his record with Alison Krauss, solo stuff and several songs from the forthcoming Band of Joy album. He did not forget to throw in about 4 Zeppelin songs. He closed the night with "Thank You" and the final song was "Rock and Roll". This was the fist stop on the tour and the band was excellent. Patty Griffin laid down some fine vocal work that complimented Robert's voice well. Guitarist Buddy Miller from Nashville was OFF THE HOOK! If you don't have any Buddy Miller records, GET EM NOW. If you have anopportunity to go see Robert Plant and The Band of Joy. DO IT! You'll be glad you did!

North MS Allstars opened and that set it - they were at their peak. How can someone play the piano and drums at the same time? And I saw it! Robert Plant was awesome last night in Memphis. He did mostly his own music. He seemed to enjoy himself and his band (Band of Joy), throughout the set, doing new songs from his album to be issued this fall, and several from his most recent album with Allison Krause. But he pulled a few ZEP songs out of his bag, including: o Thank You (If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you. If the mountains crumbled into then sea, there would still be you and me.) o Rock N' Roll (been a long time since I rock and rolled) o Gallows Pole (Hangman, Hangman, hold it a little while. I think I see my friends coming, riding a many mile) He doesn't push his voice like he used to when he was young, but he hit a few notes last night that reminded you of the AWESOME voice he used to have and how he could cut right through you with it.

What a fantastic experience!! This is my 7th time seeing him perform and it gets better every time! The first time on 4/10/77 with Zeppelin (the last show they ever performed in Chicago). The mix of Zep, old, and new songs was masterful. The Zep songs were performed with the respect they deserve. What a great opportunity to see him start his tour in such a small venue. His voice and music never ages and his songs are so well written that they can be performed in almost any genre. The man is a musical genius and is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. His music and performances have made my life better and are a bright light in what are currently some dark times. I am going to make sure I go see the North Mississippi All Stars the next chance I get. A two man band? Wow, those guys were great!! Do not miss this show when it comes to your town!!!

One of the most dynamic rock voices of this century or last was in superb form in Asheville, NC as Robert Plant kicked off his Band of Joy tour. My advice to any serious fan of rock music is to run not walk to the closest venue where the Band of Joy is headed. A perfect blend of the old and new is featured in the nearly two-hour performance featuring the wonderful performances of Patti Griffin and Buddy Miller. Miller brings extraordinary guitar work and whiskey-voiced soul to the event and Griffin's rock-a-billy voice reinvents Jimmy Page's vocals in the Led Zepplen covers. The overall sense of the evening was, indeed, a band of joy!

Betty Lavette was a wonderful surprise! The Band of Joy's mix of music was superb - Led Zepplin, music from Robert Plant's collaboration with Allison Kraus and new music. The new music was an interesting mix of jazzy rock (for lack of a better genre) and some old spirituals right out of "Brother Where Art Thou" but done in a uynique style. Really loved "Wade in the Water". The venue was great (even though it was hot!). The Miami skyline as a backdrop was amazing. We sailed our boat and stayed at Bayside Marina next door so we just walked home in the moonlight.

I drove 35 miles, it was hot as hell and I would do everything again. I am 39 now, grew up listening to Zeppelin. This could have been my first and last chance to see a legend live. I have all Led Zeppelin CDs, all Page and Plant cds and all Plant cds. I did not go to this concert to see Led Zeppelin, or I would be frustrated for sure. It was a good concert, much of the that 70's guitar sound plus those exotic indian instruments that makes his music so rock and tripping. Even the few Zeppelin songs he performed had a different outfit, nevertheless for some seconds you could close your eyes and imagine it was a Zeppelin concert. Do not go to this concert if you only know a few hits from Zeppelin and expect to listen to them. It is more for either musicians or lovers of the 70's rock... I am both and can say that I loved the concert. Some people say it was too country but I disagree. Some instruments give these flavors, but they are well mixed with rock, pop and even a little bit of jazz, what surprised me.

If it can be imagined, Robert Plant and the Band of Joy is a better tour with a better band than the Robert Plant/Allison Krauss "Raising Sand" tour. Plant is front and center, but gives his bandmates plenty of room, as well. Patty Griffin plays rhythm guitar, Darrell Scott plays guitar, mandolin and pedal steel. Buddy Miller plays guitar and electric mandolin. All three sing back up and get some solo turns in the spotlight, when Plant either sings back up or plays harmonica. Byron House on bass and Marco Giovino on drums were both great. The song selection includes new tunes from a forthcoming Band of Joy album, strong covers, and traditional songs from both the folk and spiritual canons. Plant is in great voice and is obviously having fun. Griffin's voice is a good match for Plant's in both strength and emotion, and Miller and Scott's playing and singing are stellar, as are House's and Giovino's. These are ace musicians who are at the top of their games and who seem to genuinely like playing together. The played close to two hours, including a fantastic multi-song encore. We wanted more, of course, but they deserved to pack it in for the night.

Once again I must admit the main reason my husband and I traveled 8 hours to see Robert Plant and The Band of Joy was purely to see.....well.....to see Robert Plant! He was very energetic and had a good show. I must admit we were disappointed in that the music was quite "toned down" from the glory days of Led Zeppelin and we do understand that Robert has traveled down a different path, we would of loved to of just heard one high powered Zeppelin song from days gone by. He did perform a few Zeppelin songs and some new songs, all in all we enjoyed the show tho we would not travel the 8 hours again for it. Everyone in the crowd was having a good time and truely happy to see Robert out touring again. As always, we're holding out that he will reunite with Jimmy Page and JPJ for a reuinion tour. Overall all I would recommend catching the tour after all, he was one fourth of the greatest band of all time!!

Loved his music and his new band. He is as vibrant as ever. The greatest! They had extremely piercing spot lights flashing off and on into the audiences eyes...so blinding we couldn't watch at all, to keep people from videoing the concert and the sound was so loud that we had to have our fingers in our ears the entire time. Also the people behind us were insane. There were lots of people beyond drunk screaming when Plant was trying to introduce the songs. He just gave up... If Robert Plant weren't so good...it would have been the worst live concert experience we have ever had...sorry New Orleans, love you, but you have to work on the Mahalia Jackson theatre.

The Mahalia Jackson Theatre is an excellent venue. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The opening band, Lil' Band O' Gold was a very pleasant surprise (as for some reason I didn't know Robert Plant had an opening act on this tour). They are from Louisiana. I enjoyed them so much I bought their CD the other day. I cannot say enough about Robert Plant and his band...amazing. I'll leave it at that. My only complaint would be regarding many of those in attendance. Technology (phones, tablets) is ruining the experience. I can understand taking a few photos or a few short videos..but the WHOLE CONCERT?!?! Robert Plant actually commented on one person in the front who had their iPad on their face the whole time. Then, people kept getting up and down (getting drinks and snacks and what not) for whatever reason. Mr. Plant then jokingly suggested that they might have cystitis. Finally, though many people probably did not know of the opening band they are a Louisisna band and were very happy to be home and opening for the legendary Robert Plant. Folks possibly have been a little more supportive, attentive, and welcoming. Mr.Plant had commented on how influential blues from Louisiana and Mississipi have been on him and how the blues is being exported back to us from England. We are taking our culture for granted. Aside from that...one of the best concerts ever!

My first concert - Led Zeppelin 1975 Madison Square Garden - I have seen Robert Plant many times since then. Robert is getting old, but he can still move and sing almost as well as he used to --and make me feel like a 15 year old at my first concert. The set list was mostly Zeppelin songs, which made this old fan (any my husband) very happy. I hope this will not be the last time I enjoy seeing Robert Plant in person.

Robert truly trangresses through time. He was often confused during breaks in songs aa to which era he was in and it truly wqouldn't have mattered! The mixture of old world instruments with the spacious vibe of the dijeridoos was truly beautiful in every sense. He often clapped into the mic awakening these senses! One not to miss. To make a very long story short, I've literally waited 41 years to see any of the Zep guys live. Then Robert appears with the Band of Joy.... was completely thrilled at this opportunity even though I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, expect to be blown away!! The band was terrific and Robert - Oh Robert - was exceptional!! His smiles, jokes & banter with the crowd kept us all smiling...His vocals were stunning... All the music was AMAZING and what about those Zep tunes? You will be so pleasantly surprised!! Just hearing Robert's vocals on these old favorites is all anyone needs to be thrilled beyond words!! All & all, the show was beyond amazing & entertaining and a cherished memory that I will never forget!! A definite MUST SEE!

Two days later, we are still smiling and floating on memories of Robert Plant's stellar performance. He is so comfortable in his own skin, and so joyous and grateful. His voice was superb on the Zeppelin classics and in harmony with Patti Griffin on his Raising Sand and newer songs. Musicians were the best in the business. He covered the map with his best and greatest hits, old and new. I had not seen him perform with Zeppelin as had my friends, and I now feel I really missed out in the making of who this man is today. He's incredible. The event center at San Manuel Casino was a disappointing venue for such an iconic performer, but I'm guessing Highland being the hometown of his incredible back up acoustic guitarist helped in this decision. The event center needs to upgrade it's grainy screens, tinny speakers, acoustics, floor lighting and level of service to win me back for another concert -- unless maybe it's Robert Plant! Priceless evening!

This is another concert event that I will never forget because of the awsome talent of Sir Robert Plant and his latest band. The evening was a gift to the ears from start to finish. From the wailings of "Black Dog'' from the Zeppelin Era, all the way to the present with the meloncholy beauty of "Silver Ryder" from the lates album, Band of Joy. The band was very tight!! They all sounded great together. The harmonies between Robert plant and Patty Griffen were lovely. The guatarists rocked and blended really well. Robert Plant's honey dripping singin to the powerful rock and roll star wailing was outstanding!!! Probably the best I have ever heard his voice sound! He surely could have blown the roof off of San Diego Copely Symphony Hall if he had wanted to!!!! This was one of the most outstanding concerts I have ever attended. I will look back upon it with great joy!!!

Great show! The crowd had really good energy and everyone was totally loving it! Robert worked in some Zepp favorites while completely reworking them to the point that they were almost unrecognizable. This was not a bad thing by any means, in fact it was refreshing. Everyone genuinely looked like they were having a great time up on the stage.

Robert Plant has built his new band with vocal harmonies and mushy instrumentals around his lack of being able to hit the high notes and screams he used to do with Zep. Robert Plant's vocals were meant to be done as a solo, not subdued with background vocals and harmonies. If you're going to this show to see the old Zep forget it. Band of Joy only played 3 Zep songs and it sounded like Zep elevator music with a country twist. No pedal steel guitar thank you but almost. Plant definitely seems to be heading the country direction. He left the stage at one point for a song or two and let the band show their stuff. Admittedly, they are not a bad band but if you were expecting the old Zep or even the old Robert Plant "Ship of Fools" from Now and Zen with upbeat rhythms and a rocky feel with Jimmy Page type of riffs then stay home. Had I heard this sound before I bought tickets to this show I would have definitely stayed home too.

This was an awesome show. I saw Robert with Allison and I was overall satisfied with that. I just took it as he is a little bit older. But this show was something different. He ruled the stage as if he was 20 years younger. He and the band worked together well. They were definitely in sync. He also gave us a taste of his other projects, i.e. Led Zep, Allison Krause, and some cover tunes. This was a great show. If you have a chance to see this particular tour, I highly recommend it.

Robert's voice was in spectacular shape. I loved that he gave me the impression that he was an equal part of the band and not the "star". A few times he went towards the back of the stage and let the other talented artists take the front of the stage. When he played his harmonica it brought back fond memories of "When the Levee Breaks", although momentarily it had me wanting a little more of the heavier Led Zep sound. And he did some Zep, and it was great, but they were very laid back arrangements. But at the end of the night, it was a great show and I'm glad it wasn't a Led Zep's greatest hits type of show (I saw that at Jason Bohnam's Led Zep Experience). That said...I'd be one of the first in line to see see Robert, Jimmy and John Paul Jones back on stage one more time. The North Mississippi Allstars turned out to be the North Mississippi Allstars Duo, and reminded me greatly of the Black Keys, of which, I'm a big fan. The duo were only a guitarist and drummer, but they filled the venue with a nice full sound. They were great, but I love a good bass line and missed the rest of the band. My son, Matt, and I had great seats and a great view of the stage and screens. I always want to be closer, but have learned to appreciate what I can get. The Greek Theatre is a great venue (once you get past the stacked parking problem), but because its in a residential area the show can't go beyond 11pm. After Robert's encore, he was only halfway off the stage before the lights came up and it was over. Over too soon!

This was a GREAT concert and the Band of Joy rocks. Buddy Miller is awesome (dare I say that Jimmy Page has nothing on this guy?); Patty Griffin and Darryl Scott ooze talent. And then there is Robert Plant! There's no mistaking that voice. No one can replace him. We loved the bluegrassy arrangements of the Led Zep songs and the material from the new LP. They played Black Dog, Angel Dance, Gallows Pole, Ramble On (awesome), House of Cards, Monkey, and some stuff from Plant's solo career too. Several other members of the surpremely talented Band of Joy also sang with Plant wailing away on the blues harp. It may have been a little "too country" for some folks--I noticed the Zep songs got the biggest ovations from the audience--but I loved every minute of it! What an amazing group of musicians and awesome songs--and the Greek was a great venue for it. I didn't want it to end. And then I wanted to follow them up to Santa Barbara so I could see the show again.

Wonderful harmonies, above average musicianship, and unparalled enthusiasm under the night sky at The Greek in Berkeley made for the perfect and unforgettable evening.

I've seen Robert Plant more times in concert than any other performer going back to two times with Led Zeppelin in 1977 when I was in high school. He always puts on a great show. His style changes show to show and this one was no exception. The funky versions of Black Dog, Houses of the Holy, and In My Time of Dying were all very entertainining and the whole crew of artists performing with him appeared very talented. I liked the stuff off the new CD that they performed as well, the couple of other songs he threw in from other solo CD's, and even the little gospel section that he included. The highlight of the show was Ramble On, the Led Zeppelin classic that he closed the regular set with before coming back for the oncore songs.

My brother-in-law saw Plant/Band of Joy in Florida and trivialized the show as Southern Gospel. I was profoundly moved by Plant/Krauss' "DOWN BY THE RIVER TO PRAY." My wife and I ended the Yom Kippur Jewish Day of Attonment with Tasch Licht - casting stones into the river attoning for your transgressions then heard the song live that night. Led Zeplin, the greatest rock band can be lyrically spiritual. On the other hand, U2 Achtung Baby was totally CHURCH to me. Bono doesn't hide his Christian Humanistic roots. I'm seeing the 360 tour in Seattle next month and will complete my comparison of the religious musical message offered by Bono and Robert Plant. I purchased both tickets on a Ticketmaster gift card I received on my 60th Birthday. Thank God.

by Ken S on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 12:03am . The Robert Plant show was excellent. A nice mix of Zeppelin tunes with some solo stuff from Plant and new Band of Joy tunes. The other band members had a chance to do 1 tune from their past. About 3/4 through the show the sound system blew. Plant being the professional that he is, once he realized what was happening he turned the band's monitors towards the crowd to use them as the sound system so that the show could go on. All this while the sound man tried to work out the problem. I don't think the sound man ever did figure it out. The show ended, as it began, with a Zep tune.

Robert Plant's voice held up after 'all these years.' Saw him the first time in 1969 when Zeppelin opened for the Who in Maryland. They were great and kept getting better, but as far as I was concerned, Robert Plant WAS Led Zeppelin. Each song was great and I loved the Zeppelin tunes as well. The guitar player was as good or better than Jimmy Page ... Any way .. Would I see him again ?? HECK YES I WOULD !!! Besides, I never paid attention to the rest of Zeppelin when Robert Plant was singing. LOVE HIS VOICE, then and now .. PS. His hair looked GREAT !!

Robert Plant was phenomenal. Not knowing what to expect, I was happily surprised to find that I loved him as much now as I did when he was the front man for Led Zeppelin. Bought the CD, bought the T-shirt, would buy another ticket without hesitation. Don't miss one of rock's great legends. Note about Theatre and Seats: Seat location - A+. Seat size - C- cramped, at best. Temperature in theatre - D- Sweltering and stuffy with no air conditioning. View of stage - fantastic -- when people weren't standing!!

Being a fan of Robert Plant all of my adult life and having never seen him live was corrected Monday night. He is amazing. He not only has the smoothiest, sexiest, and most talented voice I have ever known, but he has surrounded himself with fantastic talent. Everyone in the Band of Joy could have held their own concert and it would have been a great event, but together they were the best concert I have ever attended. I am also pleased that Robert Plant and the Band of Joy have scheduled a total of 4 shows in NC. May 1st is Merlefest in Wilksboro and we will be there! Robert Plant: forever a rock god!

Robert Plant's voice is not what it was with when he was with Led Zeppelin, but it's still Robert Plant - the real thing. He has taken a new direction in his association with Allison Krauss (Raising Sand) and with his new Band of Joy album. His band is a solid set of musicians and singers (especially Patty Griffin who helped him sound his best at age 62, having lived through the excess that a rock superstar has endured) and Buddy Miller is an excellent guitarist in his own right, but no Jimmy Page, along with Darrell Scott who filled in on many instruments, and provided a great intro to the Zep hit "Ramble On" . Overall, as long as you appreciate a Nashville sound with some country woven in, you will have enjoyed the show. I must admit that on one song I recognized the words, but was halfway into it when I realized that it was Led Zeppelen's "Nobody s Fault But Mine". "Ramble On" and "Rock and Roll" were easily identified and welcome covers of what everyone seemed to come to see him perform. So it was a good concert, but not a great one. Afterward, along with six other brave souls, I waited for him to come out the stage door in hopes of getting an autograph. After about 45 minutes in the cold rain, he emerged with a guitar slung over his shoulder, (a larger man than I anticipated), but went straight into a waiting van and zipped by his small, soaked, disappointed fans.

Our first time to Memorial Auditorium in Raliegh was amazing. Center section 5th row provided a great view of one of the all time best rock singers. He hasn't lost anything in 40 years and sounds better than ever. Band of Joy is just that, joy. All in the group performed at the top and as individuals and as a group the show was fantastic. What a tremendously great show! Plant and the Band of Joy were in fine shape. The cohesiveness of the members of the Band with Plant was evident and made for a more enjoyable experience. With a mix of new & old on the setlist, there was much for all fans of every stage of Plant's long & rich career catalogue to enjoy. One caveat to note here, if you are expecting a Led Zeppelin show, you will certainly be disappointed. Although they performed several Led Zeppelin hits, Robert is now a man in his 60's - and although he sounds so well, he is not 20 years old anymore. For me, personally, this did not detract at all from the songs or the experience. I only wish the show lasted longer, I simply didn't want to leave such an enormously dazzling, awe inspiring event. If you have the chance to see the show, you certainly MUST see it, don't deprive yourself of the amazing experience.

Robert Plant has aged like a fine wine, immensely enriching his artistic range by introducing and then weaving a variety of folk music into the legendary rock of Led Zeppelin. This project with the Sound Shifters is another success. The show was a mix of new sounds of "folk" transforming into the sounds from the roots of rock. For all of the 50-60ish audience, it was a pleasant mix that no doubt brought back those rockin memories.

A legend in rock, stretches the boundries with African touches, polyrhythms, and neat reworkings of Led Zep classics. I enjoyed it, but old hippies looking for Led Zeppelin retreads will be very disappointed. Patty Griffin is always a joy, but was only onstage for about a third of the show.

The venue was beautiful but even more beautiful was Mr. Plants love of his performance. You can tell that he truly enjoys his craft. He is a master. Beautiful to watch almost poetic in his movement. The Robert Plant show at the Alabama Theater was bad. The warm up band may have been good if we could have heard the vocalist. The mixing was so bad that we could not hear the introduction he did with no music playing so I did not get their name. We figured that it would be fixed before Plant got onstage but no such luck. The vocals were still too low when Plant performed that we could not hear him much at all. The show was all new songs, Plant sang none of his old songs except for some re-mixes with the new bands sound which added insult to injury for those of us wanted to hear Plant sing. We did not expect a Led Zepplin concert but we did expect Plant to play some of the old tunes for our money especially since the radio hammered us with ads for the concert playing Led Zepplin not the Sensational Space Shifters.

concert was not at all what I expected. While the musicians were very skilled and talented, their eclectic mix of African sounds and surf music made for a difficult blend. So I was in a pissy mood because I had just gotten a boxers fracture in my 4th & 5th metacarpals earlier that day but didn't have time to go to the doctor because we had to eat dinner & go to the show. Once there, I got a few whiskey drinks in me & all was well for the night. They opened with 'Fixin to Die', a great tune by old Miss. blues guitarist, Booker "Bukka" White. not sure of the order of the songs but bron-y-aur stomp & i believe four sticks, both zeppelin tunes, were played. Spoonful, a Charley Patton song was FANTASTIC!!!! Of course some Sensational Space Shifters songs were played & Gallows Pole was the last song of the night. All in all, the show was incredible!!!! Forgot all about my hand until someone bumped into it on the way out.

I've seen Robert Plant many times over the past 10 years and I have to say this was the worst show yet. Could not stand the arrangements for all but one of the Led Zeppelin tunes (Friends). They just didn't sound good. I don't see the point of Patty Griffin being in this group. She was fantastic in Band of Joy but contributed nothing here. Plant's voice wasn't as strong as in the last performance and he, well, looked very tired. He's a great vocalist and I'm hoping for the next band he throws together to be better. Better arrangements on Led Zeppelin songs would be nice too. p.s. Still love Robert and that's why it got 2 stars instead of 1.
