Fortunately, I read several of the recent reviews prior to attending the show. So I had an idea what to expect. If your goal is to see an icon perform in an intimate environment, go. If your expectation is to see Mr. Berry perform like he did 50-60 years ago, don't go. The slower blues songs stood out performance-wise. The crowd singing along with the favorites helped make the faster paced songs more enjoyable. The band does a nice job supplementing Mr. Berry's playing. His daughter is a very good singer and harmonica player and has a good sense when her dad needs her vocal and harmonica skills. Opening cover band was pretty good.

It's a chance of a lifetime to see a rock legend up close in an intimate setting like Blueberry Hill. Acoustics are incredible and the venue seems to really relax Chuck and allow him to do things that he would not normally do, such as tell stories, play piano, etc. If you plan to go, be prepared for the human frailties that accompany the age of 87. The voice is not quite as strong, there will be a few missed guitar chords, a few lyrical slips, but the moments of classic brilliance are still plentiful and worth every penny and much more.

After talking for quite some time about seeing Chuck Berry, I finally got to do it! I love it! Blueberry Hill is always a fun, homey place to enjoy some good food. The Duck Room is just plain fun. The opening act was phenominl. They got the party atmosphere started. And then Chuck Berry came on! His joy at performing came through like a sparkly diamond! He totally rocked, and the show was even more fantastic because of his son, daughter, and friends who obviously love him. They all made sure Mr. Berry got to do his thing and that everything would come off smoothly. I feel so lucky that I got to experience this show! Rock on!

For those complaining that Chuck Berry is too old or that he can't remember a lot of the lyrics, you just don't get it! Chuck Berry is the greatest rock legend of all-time. The Beatles, Elvis and the Rolling Stones all covered Chuck's songs. He has written and performed more classic songs than anybody in history. The fact that there is an opportunity to see this man once a month in a venue that only accommodates 300 people and for the measly sum of $35 amazes me. That fact that people complain about it amazes me even more. There are still sparks of greatness coming from Chuck. When he gets on a roll, he can play and sing like he did 50 years ago. Admittedly, these moments are rare but they are well worth seeing and hearing, even for brief moments. The man has incredible energy for his age and he played for about an hour and a half. Chuck has reached a point in his life where he just loves to perform and entertain. I have never seen a person try so hard to please his audience. He lit up every time the audience started to sing along or help him remember the lyrics. It was also very touching to see Chuck's son and daughter be so patient with him and help him get through the show. To put the perfect ending on the evening, Chuck stuck around to sign autographs! I would not have missed this night for anything in the world.

Went on vacation to St. Louis in May and happened to be there the same week that Chuck was scheduled to play at the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill. The venue was awesome...small vintage facility. Chuck came out at 83 years old and ROCKED THE HOUSE! What an amazing opportunity to see Chuck Berry at Blueberry Hill. Chuck plays there once a month...if you have the opportunity...don't miss it!

He didn't remember all the words to his songs and is not as dexerous with the guitar playing, but he's a Legend! and to see him in an intimate place such as the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill, standing 15 feet away is PRICELESS.. He played for exactly one hour and let a dozen girls up on stage to dance during the last song.

The opening act, Lookout Joe, was great. I'm looking forward to seeing them at other venues around town. Then Chuck comes out, looking wonderful and raring to go. The evening declined from there. He still has the stage presence and is certainly a legend, but the musical skills are waning. He really can't play the guitar any more and had problems throughout the night. His son tried to help as much as he could, and the singer/harmonica player saved the night many times. Maybe if he could concentrate on singing rather than playing, it might help? The show was much better during the first 45 minutes than the last 15. It ended on a down note. Overall, everyone should probably see Chuck perform one time, but you have to remember his best days are behind him. Robbie Robertson in the audience was a bonus. The Duck Room is a perfect spot, too.

Chuck Berry rocked the house again and did not disappoint. His show is a must see. More surprisingly, the opening band - Confounded Bridge - was really good and a great delight before a headliner like Mr. Berry. I hope to see more of them around the St. Louis area in the near future and highly recommend them.

Chuck Berry is the Father of Rock n Roll. He is in his mid 80s now, but he still has the voice and spirit within him. He doesn't "duck walk" anymore, but he still loves performing. His backing back was awesome too. His daughter has voice perfect for singing the blues... and she plays a mean harmonica! The opening act was Confounded Bridge, playing a nice mix of classic rock hits, including Hendrix, Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Rush. They cranked out quite a few great tunes in the 45 minute set.

I grew up listening to my mother's Chuck Berry album. I have said for a long time I wanted to take her back to St. Louis (she went to high school in East St. Louis in the early 60s) to see Chuck Berry. Her birthday was a few days before the show so the timing was perfect. Mr. Berry gave quite an energetic performance, especially considering he is 84 years old. I hope I'm in that good of shape if I reach that age! While he only did his signature "scoot" across the stage one time (at the end of the show) he certainly moved around the stage quite a bit. His son, grandson, and daugher were there performing with him. His son and grandson gave the "scoot" a try a few times through out the night. His grandson was really good at it. He played a lot of his well known songs and improvised a lot - which I happen to like. The whole show (including the opening act) was very good and very entertaining. My mother was surprised at how many "young" fans Mr, Berry had in attendance. It just goes to show that he still has that magic when it comes to connecting with his audience. I was impressed to see that two of his children and a grandson were there with him and supporting him. His daughter, Ingrid, plays a mean harmonica and sings beautifully. It seems like his son, Chuck Berry II, stayed a little more behind the scenes, letting his father bask in his well deserved glory. His grandson, Chuck Berry III, seemed shy (and young) but he wailed on that guitar! I hope he continues to play and pursues a musical career (if he isn't already). He has tons of talent and unlimited potential! I'd be willing to pay money just to see him perform. For his closing song, Mr. Berry asked for several females to join him on stage. I got to go on stage and dance beside Chuck Berry!!!! My mother said that back in the 50s when she used to dance to his music, she would have never dreamed in a million years that she would have a child that would get to dance on stage with him. It was the high-lite of the night for both of us. My 15 year old son was with us and he was equally impressed with Mr. Berry. He wanted to see Chuck Berry bad enough that he was willing to miss his Sports Awards Banquet at school (and that's an important event to him). He is learning to play the guitar and couldn't pass up the chance to see the Father of Rock & Roll perform live! His eyes were rivetted to the stage the whole show. As soon as Mr. Berry came out on stage, I hit the dance floor and wound up being only one person away from the stage down in front. I never went back to my seat. I got lots of great photos from a great vantage point. I never felt like I was being crowded and had room to move around and boogey just a little. It's been 6 days since the show and I'm still grinning from ear to ear :-) I don't know the last time I had a smile on my face for this long (seriously!) My only regrets are: I waited so long to see Chuck Berry in person. I probably won't have the chance to see him again. I would love to repeat this experience over and over. And I don't have a photo of myself on stage with Mr. Berry. My son got one shot on his iPhone but there is a horrible glare and Mr. Berry looks like he is glowing and all you can see of me are my legs and feet. The batteries to my regular camera had already gone dead from all the photos I took. Plus my mom didn't know how to operate it anyway. This was a night I will always remember. A Very Satisfied Fan P.S. X3 1.) The Pageant is a great venue and I really liked the neighborhood. Lots of quaint shops and sidewalk cafes. Security was highly visible and friendly yet professional acting. The area was well lit and we felt safe in this area. Bathrooms were decent and pretty clean. Parking was convenient and FREE. Additionally, there is a Metro Link stop just a couple doors down if you don't want to drive. 2.) Jake Austin and the City Limits - I'd pay to see them again. Really good music. Awesome drummer and fantastic vocals! 3.) I'd really love to see/hear Charles Berry III (Chuck's grandson) play again. In fact, I'd love to hear performances from any of his family that was there at the Pageant performing with him.

The Memphis Ribs and 'The Chill' Cosmopolitans were off the hook to boot. You couldn't have played at a better place. The staff was proficient in every way. So thanks Mr. Berry and B.B. It was a neat experience to see a Rock and Roll legend up close, but Chuck Berry is clearly past the point where he should be performing on stage. He could not keep up with the rest of the band. He often played the wrong tempo and chords and forgot words to the songs. Every once in a while he got a good guitar riff going, but could not sustain it for an entire song. Go for the experience of seeing Chuck Berry, not for the music.

If this wasn't Chuck Berry's last performance, it should have been. There are times that its nice and pleasant to be in "the moment" with a senior adult and there are times where it just uncomfortable to watch and isn't nice to put things on display. Chuck Berry has had a wonderful career and been an amazing artist, it's just not right to put him on display in such an insensitive way. My goodness, let the man retire with good memories.

First let me say all respect to Mr Berry, a true legend's legend. He is (was) a bucket list show. That said, this evening can only be described as a sad disappointment. Mr Berry should not be allowed to embarrass himself and tarnish his reputation in this way. His handlers/family must stop trotting him out there for their gain. Shame on them. The show was a mess. Mr Berry barely seemed to realize he was playing for an audience. At various times during the show he didn't know what song he was playing, what key they were in, forgot lyrics, stopped and started songs abruptly and seemed just completely lost. The band tried to follow him and cover for him but it was nothing less than a disaster. I don't know what to make of the rambling poem he attempted to recite before the show was suddenly and mercifully ended. I realize his age is advanced so his playing likely wouldn't be what it once was but this was abysmal and again, just sad. Sad to see this man unable to represent himself and his musical legacy.

He was very humble and darling but it was SO SAD to see how he has deteriorated! We feel he should retire with his dignity and let everyone remember him for His greatness NOT how he is now. When he couldn't remember the words To the songs it was devastating to us and we felt SO SORRY for him!!!

I am now 53. Mr. Berry was an international star before I was born. Most importantly he was the essential person to make the lead guitarist the most important musician in the rock and roll genre. His guitar was out of tune, he spoke instead of sang, he forgot lines, and there was no choreographically moduality to entire show. In other words, Mr. Berry did what Mr. Berry wanted to do. Of course this was a perfect way for an 87 year old genius to behave. If he was different (better) I would have been disappointed.

There is no question that Chuck Berry is a legend, and it seemed almost a crime that I have lived in St. Louis for most of my life and had never seen him play in person. I had heard that he had some trouble remembering words, so I was prepared for that. Unfortunately, it went way, way beyond that. His band, including his daughter and son, were terrific, and they played their hearts out. Chuck, too, played his heart out, but rarely played in the same key as the others. To say it was a cacophony is to put it mildly. He tried so hard but could not remember chords, tunes, or words, so what we got was a few correct bars followed by many incorrect bars and then abrupt endings in the middle of songs the rest of the band were playing. I certainly understand this legend of a man not wanting to hang up his hat, but if you go hear him, it is important that you know what you will be seeing and hearing. If you choose to go, you can still say you got to see and hear the great Chuck Berry, live. The audience obviously loved him, despite his significant limitations, so I feel like an old curmudgeon by not recommending his concert, but I think it's important to be honest so that potential audience members can choose whether to embrace the elderly man or to remember him as he was.

Although I was really glad to get to see Chuck Berry finally, and it was in the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill, Chuck was so drunk he couldn't play his guitar in tune (at all), and could barely remember the words, when he did remember them. I give it 2 stars because the warm up band was fantastic. But to have paid $80 for two tickets, drive over an hour to get to the venue and then have to shuffle around to either see around tall idiots that thought they needed to be in front of everyone else while trying not to get my beer knocked out of my hand by people on their way to the john, it wasn't worth even getting to see the legend of Chuck Berry. I'm 55 and my wife is 50, so standing for a concert is no fun. But standing in a tight spot with a severely bad performance is not worth a $10 ticket even. Then to find out from our 29 year old daughter that it's been that way for years, I felt ripped off. Anyway, we left early, (about 10 o'clock), and counted it as a lost night. Come on, Chuck. You can do better, even at 87. To be fair, his son and daughter were really good!

The crowd was thrilled to be in the same room as the true Father of Rock & Roll. Chuck had good energy and things started out great. Very quickly the fact that he is 87 years old is obvious. It is hard to say if he can't or won't play the guitar anymore. Very often he seemed lost or blamed the equipment. He seemed more interested in talking with the band members in the middle of songs. Chuck would disappear completely from songs and let his two very talented kids take over. In the end it turns out to be a Chuck Berry Family and Friends concert with the master sitting on the sidelines. It was disappointing but I went there half expecting this to happen. It doesn't lessen my love, admiration or thanks for Chuck Berry. He gaves us so much. It is unfair what time does to all of us.

For decades, I've had on my bucket list to see Chuck Berry on or near our shared birthday. I wish I had done this a long time ago. Lesson learned: Never put off bucket list items. I had read about how Chuck's doing, so it went pretty much as I was led to believe. It is sad the man can't really play anymore, and has trouble remembering the words to his legendary songs, but here and there he nailed 4 to 8 measures of chords or rhythm that really made up for it. I'm glad I had the opportunity, and would note that I'm much younger but couldn't play the guitar as well as he currently can!

Chuck Berry is still rockin St Louis, and still retaining his great sence of humor. Came onstage and asked" Does anybody know any Chuck Berry songs, because I sure don't!" He certainly remembers the beginning of all the songs and at his age, thats really something. Hope he is still having fun at this and its not too hard on him, because as long as he loves it the people will too.

What can we say about the 86-year-old Chuck Berry that hasn't already been said? He is absolutely amazing as he fills the room with his enthusiasm and 60 years experience on the Rock-N-Roll Stages. The crowd went wild as he entered. Chuck Berry and the local band jammed the great oldies. The place just plain ROCKED. We were in Rock and Roll Heaven. Chuck was totally forgiven for missing cues and changing key signatures while he played (hey- we would be glad to even make it to 86 years, let alone still be able to play). The band and singers accomodated him very well in back-up. The only downsides were the long lines & waiting to get in and the lead band not being very entertaining. Chuck Berry didn't even hit the stage until 10:00. This made it difficult for people who had to wake up to work the next morning.

Chuck Berry was remarkably spry for 86 years old. To be honest though, he forgets a bit of the lyrics and probably hits more wrong notes than correct ones. It doesn't help that his guitar is mic-ed more loudly than anyone else's instrument. He can still play the intros, though. Having said that, going to one of Chuck Berry's monthly concerts is witnessing American history. THere will likely be some celebrities in the audience as well. Chuck isn't young, so I'd check it out sooner rather than later. If you go, take an album or some memorabilia. He signs autographs at the end.

Having been listening to Chuck for 20 years, I finally decided to fly to St Louis from Denver to see him. He was very active for first 40 minutes, but performed the next 20 minutes sitting on the chair. All the songs sounded great, even if not like 50 years ago. Chuck is amazing - the legend, not less. I liked how he spoke to the audience, I liked how he sang. Get lost anyone complaining at forgotten words whatever. Chuck is a legend and none in the rock-n-roll is as great as he is. I am still under the impression from seeing him and it was very much worth to fly. The only thing disappointed me - he left without signing autographs, because he got tired. I hoped for the autograph so much, but got a bummer instead. On the other side, no bummer from the show. I want Chuck to keep performing!

Opening band Griffin and The Gargoyles were excellent, very good 60's 70's cover band. Chuck Berry. Dudes a legend. He started out with Roll Over Beethoven, it was bad. He played the wrong chords, mumbled and muffed the words. Then they played I Love you which segued into Jambalaya, then he was rocking and sounding great. He called out Roll Over Beethoven again, this time it was awesome! His son plays rhythm, his daughter plays harmonica and sings. The bass player has been with him for 40+ years, the drummer is very good at leading the band, the piano player was hard to hear unless he was soloing. What I'm getting at is the band is what makes Chuck sound great, cuz he has limited abilities nowadays. Understandable, he's old and is visibly tired. But there were moments where he was on fire, reeling and rocking, they ended with Johnny B Goode, he did a little duck walk and shuffled off the stage to thunderous applause. If you want to see Chuck Berry, do it now!!

Unfortunately it was one of Chuck's "off-nights" with forgetting words and un-tuning his guitar. On one hand it was sad to see a legend struggle like he did, but on the other hand it felt great to see a legend keep trying to give his fans want they want. I am not sorry that I went, but I knew what to expect from other reviews. If you want to see a legend, even past his prime before he passes on, I would recommend going. I still really enjoyed the show and seeing him perform. My only regret? I waited 20 years too long. His children were great, and to see how they respected him (as did all the band) was touching. And Chuck's sense of humor is still there, as well as a sincere regret he can no longer preform up to previous standards. All that said, I say again, I am glad I went. And I had never been to the Duck Room before, so that was a treat in itself.

5th time seeing Chuck, but this last concert in December of 2012 was really bad. I understand that he is 86, but he really shouldn't be out there any more. There wasn't one song where he got all the words right and due to that his daughter did most of the singing. Many songs were only performed halfway through. Really disappointing.

So, the man is 86. This is a concert where you go in knowing that. Chuck told us that he has a hearing problem in his right ear so some chords come out SUPER flat.... This concert was AWESOME. He was energetic and the crowd was loving every minute of it... People NEED to go see him!!!

The pre-band was not our taste at all and excessively loud. We would not recommend it. Chuck Berry! It was good to see him but he sang few songs and we were disappointed. But, we are glad we went. Also, standing is difficult at our age and we came early. It would be good if his musician children did duets with him so we could hear the words and have great memories of Chuck's work. The program needs work, from our perspective.

What a treat to see the first inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performing live only a few feet in front of our seats. Seeing Chuck at the Duck is like seeing Mona Lisa, Mount Rushmore or the Grand Canyon. He may not be as active as when I saw him in 1980 but it was still a thrill to see him in person. His son and daughter were great as they assisted their dad play some of Rock and Roll's greatest hits - Johnny B. Goode, Reelin and Rockin, Rock and Roll Music, Nadine, Maybelline to name a few. Also, Chuck was very kind to sign a classic album for me after the show. Hail! Hail! Rock 'N' Roll

Sad, sad show. Poor Chuck Berry is tone deaf, can't remember the lyrics, and can't play the notes. Duck room is a crappy venue to start. Add a crappy show and you have a recipe for a miserable show. The band took over ten minutes to tune Chuck's guitar for him and it still didn't help. Opening act was pretty good. Saw Chuck in 2008 and he was a whole lot better. Not great, but way better. Didn't get to see too much of Chuck, unfortunately, because we had trouble getting to the venue. This is specific to this particular show, but if you're going to BB King's on New Year's Eve, you need to get there early and be prepared to deal with massive crowds as well as newly graduated police officers. Pay close attention to the arrival instructions, you need to approach 42nd Street from the North and on the East side of 8th Ave. Port Authority subway exit on the Northeast corner was actually open, so this is the best way, but be prepared to go back up to 50th street and walk down if they close it. For the 11 show, you want to aim for 10:15ish. Nice place to see a show, but you'll get much better seats if you are early. Some of the general admission tables require you to look over your shoulder (or at least turn the chair around). Stayed after and had a light dinner at Lucille's next door. Food was very good, much better than I'd expected, and the 60s/70s band was rocking. Very pleasant way to end the evening. Would go back for that. One other thing: We paid $20 extra for American Express seating (not the preferred seating that comes with Gold/Platinum cards, but a category open to all Amex holders). We were late and ended up standing, but the guy at the door indicated there weren't special seats, even though the tix indicated a specific row and seat numbers.

For an 85 Year old Guy he did very well, but without his son helping him out remembering his tunes he would be nearly helpless. Anhob it was a Great Show. Chuck was so enthusiastic, that he wouldn't leave the stage playing One enorme After Theo Other.

While Chuck Berry might be one of the legends of Rock N Roll, what made the act were his band members (Including his very talented son) who kept on covering up for him when he kept forgetting the words, missing notes or picking the next song at random. I understand it is not easy at the grand age of 85, kudos to him for keeping it up. But disappearing after the last song and leaving it up to his son to present the other band members is a no no. You can live on your reputation alone only for a while, which probably explains why he was playing in such a small venue. No, I would not go listen to him again, nor would I recommend anyone else from going to see him. You are better off seeing him on video at the height of his career.

Chuck Berry, in a sequined red jacket and bright satin shoes, appeared on stage with his guitar. He started with 'Roll Over Beethoven'. By the end of the song, I and most of the audience were sold. For this gig, he'd brought his grown-up children along - Charles Berry jr who is a guitarist and Ingrid Berry who sings and plays the harmonica. Both are exceptional and it was so wonderful to see them all together. They are so full of life and musical talent. I turned 21 this year and have been waiting my whole life to see him play. I would definitely go again.

Although I am glad Chuck Berry stuck around long enough that I finally got around to seeing him, he really needs to hang it up. His guitar playing is sloppy, out of tune and out of time, and he regularly forgets lyrics, several times stopping in the middle of songs because he couldn't remember the next part. If the quality of the music is not a concern, go see a rock legend while you still can, otherwise skip this.

I've seen Chuck Berry live many times, and every time he puts on an AMAZING SHOW!! He is 85 years old and still ROCKS!! He still dances with the guitar, does the duck walk and gives the audience a great 1 hour performance!! His voice was in great shape and his guitar playing was amazing!! I've been a profesional musician for years, and I've be lucky to still play half as good by the time I'm his age!! His guitar tone and licks were just incredible!! He did play "Promised Land" 3 times or so that night (and I've never seen him do it live before), but I could listen to that song 10 more times if I had to, as he performed VERY well, and every time that he'd forget a lyric, he would make it up by telling a joke or playing a mean guitar solo!! I would recommend EVERYBODY, and especially big Rock'n'Roll and Blues fans to go see Chuck Berry!! He's still got it, and at 85, he is still the REAL KING OF ROCK'N'ROLL!!

Mr. Chuck Berry is really amazing. I admire his willingness to be on stage, and rocking!!! I traveled from Argentina to see the show and I thank myself for doing so. It would be great if, maybe sometime, Chuck could visit and play in my country. The rock and roll scene here is outstanding, there are many rock and roll fans, and bands that play classic rock n roll. In fact, every time an international rock performer plays in Buenos Aires (e.g: The Stones) sells out almost immediately, and often more than once in the same tour. Well no more words, and long live rock n roll!!!

I love Chuck Berry. But that was no Chuck Berry performance. One hour performance with frequent gaps in trying to tune his guitar, nearly tangled up in his guitar cord, tripped on stage, stage hand shadowing him to make sure he doesn't get hurt, forgetting his song lyrics, ending songs in the middle (apparently because he couldn't continue to play them). I'd really like to see him play one, maybe two songs at a Rock-n-Roll review show. I think he could still pull that off. Or sit with him one-on-one just playing his guitar and singing a few words from his hits. He is a lovely man. He is a legend. But he simply can't perform anything over an hour...and that one hour is a struggle for him. He reminds me of other legends who should retire: Dillion singing with a shot voice or James Brown whom I also saw struggle to perform, these are my last memories of iconic performs way way past their prime. Very sad.

Chuck Berry is a LEGEND! He practically invented rock n roll and was hugely important in breaking racial barriers and even shaping today's society. Almost every musician since has felt the influence of Chuck Berry. Now, having said how much respect and admiration I have for the man and his music.... I gotta say that he's goin' over the hill. I'd been looking forward to this show for a while and I wasn't expecting him to be jumping and duck-walking the whole time, but he's definitely slowed down. Luckily, his son was there to help direct and keep the show going because Chuck kept forgetting what he was playing and doing. I think he even played the same song a couple times. He would forget how songs start/end. I'm not sure if they had a setlist or not because they just seemed to sort of "wing it" and try and follow Chuck's lead. It was great that he was still making the effort to sing and play, but he just seems to have lost that "edge". And whole show lasted, roughly, an hour. And there wasn't an encore. Kinda disappointing on the showmanship part. If you've never seen Chuck Berry play... go do so; because legends like this only come around once in a while. Just don't expect a fast-paced rock show anymore

We went to see Chuck Berry because we have incredible respect for him and his talent and were very excited to have the opportunity to see him. Unfortunately, this concert was very disappointing. Chuck forgot the words to many songs... and stopped the songs abruptly in the middle. He also sang the same song four different times - or should I say started it 4 times... and quit after maybe a minute each time. Chuck also said that after playing in front of drums for 60 years, he has a hard time hearing... There were several times when he played off key as well. Bottom line, he didn't appear to have rehearsed or even planned what he was going to play and sing, and it was a sad sad concert. The fans were all cheering anyway, as were we... but it was hugely disappointing.

Chuck needs a lot of help ! This American Icon is playing waaaay past his bedtime. I saw him Friday night at the California Theater in San Bernardino, CA on September 16th, 2011. He was accompanied by his son on bass or back-up guitar, a great keyboardist and drummer and one other bass or back up guitarist. He started one song five times and stopped at several different places each time but never finished the song. The crowd loved him and we do too. He stumbled once. Near the end of a very short hour he started walking around the stage, off stage, behind the drummer etc and was followed closely by a blonde lady dressed in a grey suit who seemed to be there to prevent him from getting lost or becoming disoriented. He kept complaining that he could not hear. He could play well but not being a musician I was not sure if it was him or his band. Being a legend means he will never be a "has-been" but his time is passing and his show needs to be re-organzied: 1. He should sit down and stay put. His talent is music and stories and not walking around. 2. He should introduce his son earlier and let him play some. 3. He should lose the blonde lady keeper who is a total distraction. 4. He should get a routine for shows and stick with it. 5. He should quit playing in his own good time and fans should be as kind as they were in California this past Friday night. 6. Finally the lighting was atrocious, they had spotlights blinding the audience for at least two minutes of every twenty. Everyone's face was lit up like Halloween and we could not see Chuck. 7. He switched out guitars twice and ended up playing three guitars. For a short one hour this wasted a lot of time. God Bless Chuck Berry !

Chuck Berry, to me as a musician, is and always will be a hero and a rock and roll legend. And for that, alone, I was glad to have caught his eye and connected with him for a brief moment at this recent concert. Unfortunately, though, the concert itself was not good. Chuck didn't sing most of the lyrics; he talked through them. Over half of the songs were cut short, presumably because Chuck couldn't remember the rest of the lyrics. One song was started and cut short 3 separate times during the concert. At one point, Chuck apologized to the audience because he realized that he was playing the wrong chords to his songs due to the fact that his hearing had become so bad. And the concert itself lasted exactly one hour, without an encore.

At 85 Chuck Berry is still going strong! His guitar playing may not be what is once was, and the show was shorter than i would have liked (only 45 minutes and NO ENCORE despite the chanting of the fans) but there is something about seeing a living legend in person, still on stage, enjoying himself and singing his classic songs (Johnny B. Chuck Berry is iconic. What a treat to have him perform in the Duck Room regularly. If you've wanted to see him, but haven't been able to score tickets, or just have not gotten around to it, do yourself a favor and make it a must-see event. In the intimate setting of the Duck Room, with Joe Edwards kicking things off, it really is memorable. Chuck has fun on stage and that gets the crowd going. His guitar licks have slowed down, but the dude IS 84. He looks great and his voice is strong, and we all loved singin to the Ding A Ling. I took some great photos (allowed without flash) that I'll cherish. A shout out to Wild Bill Young, aka The Urban Cowboy, who opened Chuck's show. He turned a skeptical older crowd in his favor. A deep-voiced likable local guy who somehow fuses rap, funk, and country. It's unique and genuine. Cowboy hat and boots, and bling. I'm a fan.

Giving all excuses for being old (I'm a senior myself) I was deeply disappointed when he didn't even take a encore bow when he had a standing ovation. It was like thank you for your money and good night. His act was "okay" but was vastly over shadowed by Little Richard who was obviously not 100% (never stood up) physically, but was 200% performance wise.

The opening band was perhaps the worst band I have ever seen, and Chuck could not remember half of his songs. I honestly felt sorry for his band, who had to try to read his mind to discover when the songs were going to end. A few times he just stopped in the middle of a song to tune his guitar, which he could not do. He was accompanied by his son on guitar and a woman who I heard was his daughter. She was amazing. Chuck needs to pack it up and let his kids play his songs.

Chuck Berry is a legend, plain and simple, and although he is getting up there at 85 years old , he still has a great sense of humor and is excellent at interacting with the audience. His guitar is off at times, and occasionally forgets some of the words, but when he hits it right he still sounds great on he guitar. Like I said, he will be off at times with the guitar, and he forgot most of the words to maybeliene, but at 85 years old I don't know what else to expect. The fact that the man can still play as well as he does is a testament to his talent and skill. His daughter is amazing on the harmonica, and she can sing, and his son plays his guitar well, obviously inspiredby his dad. Its something to see when an 85 year old legend takes the stage. If you get a chance, I'd recommend seeing him one last time. Hail hail rock n rol!

I make the 8 hour round trip drive from Indianapolis, IN approximately 4 times a year to see the monthly Chuck Berry show in St Louis. Given his age, it's still a pretty good show. His daughter often picks up the slack with her incredible harp playing. His son also offers some nice guitar. The songs are played off cuff, often by audience request. Songs often aren't finished as he forgets lyrics. However, given the importance of this man's place in rock music history, still a very worthwhile show. Following the show, he often is kind enough to shake hands with fans. A true legend! Local & regional bands (one band per show, but a different band each month) are the opening acts. The bands are always of high quality.
