We travel from Atlanta to Birmingham to the Lyric Theatre. We heard great things about the restoration of this building and we were not disappointed it is beautiful. Also we stayed at the new Holiday Inn Homewood in Birmingham which was awesome. As usual the Paul Thorn band was absolutely amazing and kicked ass from the very beginning. Paul is a great Showman he knows how to engage the crowd and keep everyone entertained and laughing and dancing. His band is tight and awesome as always. Bill the guitar player has been with him since he started twenty years ago everyone else has been there at least 10 years you can tell they all have a great time together. After the show they are very accessible. All of them are more than willing to come out and talk and make pictures. Jeffrey the drummer remembers us from Atlanta and even remembers our name every time we see him awesome people and great musicians

Paul Thorn definitely brought his AAA game tonight! (No, it wasn't anything to do with an automobile accident in the making!) For me, personally, it was the fifth or sixth time that I've seen Paul perform, but it was the first time that I have seen him perform on land. (I've seen him on two previous versions of Delbert McClinton's "Sandy Beaches Cruises.") He seemed genuinely enthusiastic about the pending release of his new C/D "Pimps and Preachers"! This enthusiasm was obviously contagious as it spread, first to the members of his band and, in turn, to those privileged enough to be members of the audience. The play list was a wonderful mixture of the "old" and the P&P songs. Now the superlatives stop here! The venue, Birdy's in Indianapolis, IN, is a dirty, poorly maintained, "hole-in-the-wall" type of place with grossly inadequate seating that apparently is attempting to coast, while actually sliding, solely on it's local reputation. I personally drove six or seven hours to see this performance and I was very disappointed when I walked inside the door. The audience, not to mention the artists themselves, deserved a far nicer venue to enjoy, and otherwise enhance, a wonderful evening!

I saw Paul Thorn at House of Blues in Houston on 5/14, and he was his usual amazing self. This was my third time seeing him, and I am still astonished that he hasn't been "discovered" by the masses. Great lyrics, songs that tell stories, great band ... what is there not to love? And it doesn't hurt that he is extremely easy on the eyes! I loved the intimacy of the Bronze Peacock room, and being able to get up close. I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed (only a little!) that he didn't tell as many stories between songs as I have heard him do in the past. This is definitely part of his charm. I'm not complaining that I got more music ... just missed the stories! I also enjoyed the opening act, The Mighty Orq.

Paul Thorn and his band are very entertaining. He's a better songwriter than singer, but his live shows are made so much more fun by the anecdotes he adds during the show. He has a great sense of humor. His lead guitariest is really amazing. But the venue really sucked! The Bronze Peacock room at The House of Blues had no seating. I didn't realize that they really meant SRO, or I wouldn't have bought tickets.

Both performers were good - Cook was more country but songs were good. Thorn is a clever songwriter with an excellent band. They could rock with the best. Thorn is entertaining with good chatter between songs. The show had a spiritual feel as paul told us his dad was a preacher.

I had not heard of Paul Thorn prior to this event. I went to see him because I love listening to live music and the 8X10 club. Paul has a very thick Mississippi accent that comes through in his songs. He had a nice way of relating stories about growing up with a preacher father in Miss. (and an uncle that was a pimp). His music definitely rocked, was danceable and soulful all at the same time.He is very sexy in an understated way.

When I saw Paul Thorn at the House of Blues on Sunday night May 17,2009 I was shocked at the small amount of people in the audience. I saw no advertising and it was a Sunday night in this depressed economy. When the show started only 17 people were in the audience. After the second song Paul said if you will stomp your feet when you clap it will sound like a large crowd is here. He proceeded to do all request and after the fourth song, he grabbed his acoustic guitar, went over to a couch, sat down and played a solo set for an hour. This show was like Paul was in your living room playing for you and your friends. This was a once in a life time event . It had to be the best show I have ever seen. I'm sure it was sad for Paul with a small crowd, but he was GREAT! At the end of the solo set about 25 people were there. He got back on stage with his band and played about four more songs. What a GREAT show. Can't wait to see him again.

I have seen Paul Thorn several times over the past 5 years, twice at the Variety Playhouse and I must say that this is a great venue for him to play in. Paul is a tremendous talent and his band is amazing. He writes great songs that are funny at times but always deep and I can't wait to see him again. I would highly recommend anyone to go see Paul Thorn.

Paul Thorn played the Pontiac Garage, and this is my first time to see him live and also my first time in the Pontiac Garage. The show was on a Sunday night....which is often the 'kiss-of-death' in terms of attendance, unless the musician is very well-known. The place was not exactly packed. But those in attendance were true-blue fans! Seemed like nearly everyone knew all the words to all the songs. Paul did something I thought was really great - he asked the audience if it was ok for him to come down with us and just sit around and play his guitar and sing, since there werent that many people there. Everyone went crazy! He sat on one of the couches and we all surrounded him, and he told stories, took requests, and we gathered around 'Uncle Paul' asking him to tell us stories. He is so 'real' and unaffected, it was like sitting with a good friend in their house, letting them play and sing for us. It was such an intimate setting, everyone really felt lucky to have been part of the experience! And he is so entertaining and talented, with such a fun sense of humor, I will definitely see him again!

Great show with Paul and four-man backing band. Played material that spanned his career. Very humorous and personable between songs. The Variety is one of my favorite venues. it is really nice that they added the full bar. I gladly drive 2 1/2 hours for any of my favorites there. The Paul Thorn band fits the intimate setting and delivered one hell of a show - AGAIN. There were obviously quite a few fellow "followers" enjoying it as much as we did. I took a friend who had never seen him, and is actually not a concert goer. She had a great time. They always play a lot of favorites and add a few less known. He interacts with the crowd more than any artist I know and makes the audience feel that he is appreciative of their presence.

Paul, Paul, Paul. What words can describe a PTB concert? As usual, Paul was amazing. His antidotes, breakout smile to the fans hugging the stage's edge, and beautifully clad denim jeans and tight t-shirt body are almost more than a simple girl can endure. The new songs were instant "hits" with the faithful and the old classics had everyone rocking. The whole band seemed to be "on" - even with Bill's pain and a newly added bass player. I rue the day that Paul gets too big for the smaller venues and plays to the massive throngs that can't truly appreciate the up-close-and-personal-PTB-experience (although I wish them all the success that's terribly overdue them). This was my 7th PTB concert and with me were my three fellow PTB-converts at their 3th and 4th concerts. We continually agree, he just gets better and better. Some performers you can go see "live" once and that's sufficient for a lifetime, but Paul Thorn lures you into some sort of trance that begs you to quit your life and follow him around to any venue in any part of the country where he shows up. He has four faithful fans that will continue to make the trek to any venue within at least the five-state area of AL, FL, GA, SC, or TN. The only one thing we'd change ... Paul, add some sexy flip flops or cowboy boots and dis the Dr. Locke shoes! Nevertheless, we love you Paul and "please turn around!"

Paul Thorn performed yet another outstanding show. He and the PT Band are amazing each and every time we see them. Part of the charm of their concerts is the appreciation they seem to 'genuinely' have for their fans. Although their talent is incredible and brings their devoted fans back time and time again, Paul continues to interact with the crowd and "woo" the women with his smile and taut physique. He also listens and responds to his fans. But the music ... ah the music, that's what it is all about. His songs, both humorous & serious, touch a part of each fan and lures them into that special place. Our first PTB encounter was when they were the opening band years ago for Jr. Brown; we'd never heard of the PTB. The guy sitting next to us was astonished and said, "I follow him everywhere. I never miss a show." Then we thought he was crazy, now we understand.

We have seen Paul probably ten times and his show is always different. He was awesome in Tunica. I love his sweet smile. He wasn't as talkative as he is sometimes. His daughter came on stage and did "Every Little Bit Hurts" with him. She has a great voice!! He did something from just about every album. As far as I can remember, these are the songs he did: Burn Down the Trailer Park, Black Rainbow, Lovers Vacation, She Won't Cheat on Us, 800 lb Jesus, Lucky 7 Ranch, Crutches, Ain't Living in Sin, Pimps and Preachers, I Don't Like Half the Folks I love, Everythings Gonna be Allright, Backslide on Friday, Old Stray Dogs and Jesus, Snake Farm, Bull Mountain Bridge and closed with Mission Temple Fireworks Stand. Mr. Thorn's show began with a delightful video, featuring clips from his boxing match with Roberto Duran and an interview with a young Paul Thorn, filmed before he quit his twelve-year stint at the chair factory but after the Duran match. This was a wonderful way to start the show! The Paul Thorn band then played every song on the "Hammer and Nail" recording, including "800 Pound Jesus," "Josie the Jehovah's Witness Stripper," and the title song. The show then continued with many favorites, including "Burn Down the Trailer Park," "Lucky Seven Ranch," and "Mission Temple Firework Stand" for an encore. A highlight of the latter part of the concert was an unplugged performance of "Temporaily Forever Mine:" Mr. Thorn, sideman Hinds, and bassist Friedrichsen sang tight harmony accompanied by Dr. Love on mandolin and Mr. Perkins using nothing but an egg shaker for percussion. Two complaints: First, the sound mix was dreadful: I was in seventh row center and could not understand 85% of the lyrics; they were garbled. Had I not been familiar with Mr. Thorn's music, this performance would have been a waste. Second, my wife and I did not enjoy the warm-up act (Bonnie Bishop); her lyrics were garbled, and her performance detracted from the evening.

Paul Thorn could be a comedian! His comments between songs were hilarious! Of course, his music is very unique and entertaining. The crowd really got involved. The PAUL THORN SHOW is a MUST for anyone that loves a rock and roll, blues, gospel experience.

The guy was open, on top of his game, with well crafted material. A lot of smiling audience members, including my gal.....The ONLY complaint, which probably had nothing to do with Paul, was the lighting that some companies insist on using on the poles aimed at the audience, which is blinding, distracting, and irritating.

The concert was awesome! Paul Thorn Band always gives a fantastic show. The sound, music and in between song stories were top notch. Great to see hometown Knoxville band The Kevin Abernathy Band opening the show.

Paul is like a great artist who colorfully paints life with lyrics, harmony and some of the best guitar licks I have ever heard. His canvas is filled with the vibrant hues of Americana as painted from the soul of one who has lived and loved, won and lost. He is so comfortable with his audience that it is very evident he and the band love what they do. The only way this concert could have been improved would have been to include his daughter Kit. So, how much did I enjoy the concert? I immediately got two tickets for the show in Chattanooga in three weeks. It could be so easy to be a Paul Thorn groupie!

You will not find a more talented songwriter, a more sincere performer, or a better band. I bought all 7 CDs the first time we saw him. Check him out! Listen to the song "Crutches' for a taste of his serious side, or "Joanie the Jehovah's witness Stripper" for his fun side. And he's a hunk to boot!

Great venue!! . Paul Thorn was incredible! I plan to go to see him again! Not only is his songs great his humor is unmatched! The lead in to this concert was very good too, Brandon Lay. I believe he will be a main headline soon! How can you beat being on the stage with the performers sitting on a couch? One of the best concerts I have ever attended!

Paul Thorn and his excellent band (Bill, Jeffery, Ralph and Dr. Love) were awesome. The venue Birdys was easy to find and would go back there to see Paul again. This place had good people working there and it also has good acoustics.

Paul played close to 2 hours to an audience that was energized and it felt like half of the audience knew him personally and Paul knew them. Every song sounded great and most of the time, the audience would sing along with the course. Some people would cheer, some danced and some just watched quietly; soaking in the atmosphere. If I would say anything negative about Paul s show; it would be he did not play 3 of my favorite songs. But with number of songs Paul has written and performed, then it would be impossible to do them all. When Paul comes back to my area (by the way it was a 95 mile drive for me), then I will defently go see him.

I am a HUGE PT Band fan and have seen him many times. I packed up 20 people and we drove 4 hours to get to Birdys. The venue was not air conditioned and it was very hot. I don't know if this is what contributed to the performance, but Mr. Thorn was not into it at all. He knew he was performing in a bar but complained about the crowd being "drunk - which is not a compliment just so you know" He then preceded to rudly insult people in the front row who were just trying to applaud and show their love for him. Well my crowd certainly was not drunk and we were sadly disappointed in his attitude. I understand everybody can have an off night and touring is tiring but my group wouldn't have wasted our time or money on this had we known it was going to be such an inconvenience to the performer.

I got tickets to see Paul in Indy for my husband for Father's Day but after seeing the show, I'm now a big fan. Not only was his voice raw and velvet but he was really funny, charming and a great front man. We had a fabulous time and are planning to go see him again.

Fanastic show! This was my first Paul Thorn concert but it will not be my last. I have been a fan since first hearing Burn Down the Trailer Park and there was nothing about the show that disappointed. The band was tight, the sound terrific and Paul's brand of songwriting / story telling surpasses all others on today's music scene.

Paul Thorne is a unique entertainer. A true singer singer writer he can carry the show with or without his band. His songs are unique. Some are just plainly hilarious while others show a deft sensibillity to the struggles we all confront. What sets Paul apart is his unique banter with the audience. He engages you in his songs with his unique perspective and humour. By the end of his show you will be standing and dancing and singing his songs and will have laughed your head off!!

This is my first show at the Birchmere, and I am very impressed, both with the musical presentation, and the food offered at the table. I've seen Paul Thorn several times before, and was once again thrilled with he and his band's performance. The old favorites still rock, and the material from the new album was absolutely wonderful. To top it off, this is a seated, supper club, type environment. Arriving early to get numbers by which you are admitted to the theater, allows you to select your seats. We were at a table closest to stage right. Wonderful view of the band. Though we were right next to the stage, the volume wasn't painful, as it can be in some venues. The food choices were excellent, our friends having the pizza, my wife and I selecting chicken tenders. Food arrived quickly, was hot, and very tasty. The seating arrangement was great for an old guy like me, who has trouble standing for an entire evening of music. The Birchmere has jumped to the top of my list of favorite venues to hear bands.

Paul Thorn relates so well with his audience! I liked his telling the "story" behind each song. The talent of those who played with him was evident and appreciated. I loved it when he introduced his daughter, and she played and sang...his pride was showing, with justification!

Had a WONDERFUL time - Lisa Mills was so good, would definitely like to see her again. Paul Thorn was great - just wish he would have played more of his "classic" songs but he was promoting his new CD so that's mostly what was played. A fun time was had by all and I'm looking forward to hearing him again in the future.

Went to see Paul and his band for the fourth time, they seem to get better every time we see them. They played songs from the new cd, which is great, along with some of his older songs, which are just as great. He was a good boxer, and I'm sure he built some good chairs, but music was his calling !!! Can't wait to go again.
