After many years just missing Rosanne Cash, I finally saw he last Friday at Durham's grand dame of a theater, the Carolina. The first half of the show was the entire non-deluxe album, in order, played live with her tight band under the direction of her husband/producer John Leventhal. The second half visited several her previous albums dating back to when she was quite young. Her descriptions of songs only made them better. Don't miss her if you have the chance.

Rosanne Cash gave her gift of words, music and a great storytelling ability on Saturday night downtown Napa....and she was given the gift of appreciation and affection from her audience. The band has some of the best musicians in the industry....and they all seemed to have a sense of fun and respect for the music they were playing. Everyone was given the chance to shine and shine they did. It was one of the best venues and best concerst I have been too, the Uptown Theater has wonderful acoustics and the size of the auditorium made for an intimate evening. Rosanne's voice never faltered and seemed to grow throughout the evening. Every song she sang rang true to the story she was telling. Rosanne has an ease and comfort level with her self and her audience that I have not seen before with other perfomers. I got the feeling that what she does is so much more than show-biz to her...it is what makes her complete. After the concert Rosanne came out to the lobby , met her fans and signed memorabilia. It was a wonderful evening...one I will never forget.

We went to see Roseanne Cash hoping to see a good show. We liked her music and thought that she would tell some good stories. She did tell some very interesting stories, but her voice was clearly the star of the show. She opened with her version of Movin' On. A sultry rendition of this old classic. Normally I am not of big fan of changing the way a classic is done, but this was truly a riveting performance to open her show, and it only got better. Backed by a great Band, she did an hour and fourty-five minute show, including encores, and it was one of the best shows that I have ever seen. She surey has the Cash entertainer gene, and also learned a great deal from the Carter Family. If you go see her show you won't be disappointed and will come away wanting more. A truly great show, especially for what it costs to see her.

Rosanne Cash obviously has a soft spot for The Folly and for Kansas City! She was wonderful and put her whole self into the show. She and her band were so in tune, musically as well as in their rapport with each other. Very kindly came back for great encores, Fantastic. My first time at The Folly, will NOT be my last. PS: Waiting for :The List, Part Two!

This was a really nice concert. Appreciated the on point conversations, source of songs with no real rambling on. Good voice, good band. They had sound problems which affected the band more than audience. Would definitely recommend.

We saw Rosanne Cash last night at the Folly Theatre in Kansas City, and it was just a great concert. No fluff, no frills. She and her band came on stage and knocked out about an hour and 45 minutes of great music. The mix of music was outstanding: from several songs on her "list", to some old favorites, to an unforgettable version of "Ode to Billy Joe." If Rosanne comes to your town, don't miss it.

The venue, The Folly Theatre, has incredible acoustics. Rosanne Cash sang many of the songs from "The List" plus a few from "Black Cadillac" and some favorites ("Seven Year Ache" "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me"). Great stage presence and rapport with the audience -- she has a great sense of humor -- but the focus is on the music. I enjoyed this show and her performance very much and would recommend it highly to anyone who likes good music. Great band, too.

Very enjoyable concert. Rosanne seemed uncomfortable for the first couple of songs but I think this may have been related to some problems in the sound which were quickly resolved. The set list clearly was chosen to promote her album, "The List", which was fine with us. The band was excellent and Rosanne appeared to be perfectly comfortable with them. A great evening. Too bad Bruce wasn't there!

Enjoyed the concert a great deal. Cash's voice with good songs and good venue really made wonderful listening. My only negative comment is that her banter with the crowd and her band seemed rehearsed. About 2/3rds through she started to become less detached.

Rosanne Cash and the Scottish Rite Auditorium were a perfect match. Her vocals were outstanding as always and the venue really let her clarity and power shine in a way that larger venues cannot match. So I'm now a huge fan of both Rosanne and the Scottish Rite and plan to see them both as often as possible!

My husband is the fan, not me. I had given him these tickets as a Christmas present. The concert had been "snowed out" and rescheduled from February to April. The Scottish Rite Auditorium is a unique venue and we had seats very close to the stage. Rosanne sang songs from The List and Black Cadillac. I left a fan with a healthy respect for her love of family and song.

I took my girlfriend who really likes Rosanne Cash and folk music. Not being a country or folk music follower, myself (I more listen to fusion jazz) I expected to enjoy the show enough, but I really enjoyed it alot more than I expected. The music was more sophisticated and interesting than I expected and the fidelity was great. Modulations and some unexpected chord changes were evident. There was a wonderful blues feel to many of the songs and Rosanne's strong voice and musical talents (guitar, writing) were certainly evident in the performance. She was personable and witty and her band members are all very talented and she showcased them well. Both lead guitar and rythm/steel guitar player were very talented. The keyboard player was soulful and bluesy. A delightful evening provided by a delightful entertainer and company.

Roseanne and husband John Leventhal put on a great show - just them with acoustic guitars and John on piano for a couple of songs. I was as much impressed with his guitar playing as I was with her beautiful, melodic voice. Very earthy and somewhat freewheelin' performance. Some of John's guitar runs are borderline mesmerizing - as in a question placed in "Ode to Billie Joe." That song, alone, was worth the price of admission. But she also played some nice stuff from her albums (not all that I was familiar with, but enjoyed nonetheless); as well as more old classics like "Long Black Veil," "Things We said Today," and, of course, "Tennessee Flat Top Box." And most refreshing, she (for the most part) kept politics out of her performance. Shown lasted about an hour and a half - no intermission.

Very intimate concert with Roseanne and John sharing their love. Great interplay and audience talk set the stage for more of an "at home" feel to the evening. Watching Rosanne Cash perform was a joy from start to finish. Her respect to her name was exhibited throughout the show. As a songwriter she is one of the best. Her last minute ensemble performed fluently like they were always her team. My girl loved her show even though it was the first time she heard her music. Rosanne's stories of her Father were inspiring and funny. Johnny Cash is bigger than a Redwood to me! You can bet your bottom dollar that Rosanne is a Cash!!

Despite fighting a cold, and without her usual accompanist Rosanne Cash did a fine job at the Parker on February 27th. She mixed her newer music in the first half of the show with the older songs in the second half and with good results. She remains an excellent performer. Rosanne Cash and the fabulous musicians in the band were outstanding. Cash sounds as good as ever. She expresses such emotion and passion in her songs. The first half of the show included songs from her new album, The River and the Thread. I like that Cash gave a short explanation of the concept and origin behind each song. The second half included an array of songs from her collection as well as a few favorite covers. What a great night.

Rosanne Cash was scheduled to bring her show "down the Turnpike" to Collingswood NJ in February but it was delayed due to the horrible snow storms that blanketed (literally) the region. It was worth the wait! Mrs. L & band played most of the new album, The List, and many of our favorites from her country catalog, too. Although the band was rather under-rehearsed (she didn't even know the bass player), it was a terrific night! She said something rather profound... when Mother Maybelle Carter taught her some of the Carter Family songs, she told her "This isn't a gift for you. This is for you to keep the music alive" and Rosanne's daughter is also recording... it was a true privilege to see her dad and just as much fun to see her! No Depression indeed.

She and her wonderful band performed in the Roper Theatre, which is a remodeled Loew's Theatre from the 1920's. It was an excellent venue to get up close and personal with the reigning Queen of American Roots Music. She did works from each phase of her 35 year career, including songs she performed by her iconically famous dad-Johhny Cash. Her current tour, which emphasizes stories and songs from her award winning Southern music disc, The River and the Thread. These songs will take time to vintage like her classic songs on: 1979-89 Hits, Rules of Travel, Black Cadillac, and her best to date - The List, However, The River and Thread songs got better for me with increased listening and with Rosanne's explanations of how and why each of them was written-that she gave at her concert. However, almost anyone present that evening, even her, will have to agree that her concert and the crowd moved into super overdrive with the electrifying second half performances of her ultra standards, Seven Year Ache, Tennesse Flat Top, and Heartaches by The Number. It is unfortunate, though, that she missed the opportunity to perform Virginia's most notable singer, Patsy Cline's song. "She's Got Your Picture. This is one of Cash's best from The List. disc! But, she must be forgiven. After all, what other performer has avid fans from Mountain, Country, Folk, Blues, Rhythm and Blues, Blues, and Rock Music? And, has the mesmerizing stage presence and authority to speak as the Royal Spokesmen for American Roots Music?

In a music world of over the top video compensating for talent; it's still refreshing to experience the one-to-one of a great musician in concert. Roseanne's voice is as beautiful as ever, her songs (and commentary) come to life on stage. John Leventhal's guitar virtuosity and vocals are a perfectly crafted accompaniment. I have been a fan for many years but this was the first time I have seen R.C. in concert. She, and John, exceeded my expectations. This concert was fabulous - wonderful - better than I expected. I am a country music fan but have never seen her before - and now I can kick myself for not having followed her sooner. She does exactly what I want in a concert - a great balance of storytelling and singing. I guess it helps when you are the songwriter - but it's such a nice insight into the songs she sings and where she got the inspiration for them. I loved every single song she sang and I hadn't heard at least 75% of them before. She's very engaging . Her band was excellent - did not overpower her voice - good sound mixing! But most of all - it wasn't so darn loud like most other acts. I didn't have to cringe once (as I did when we saw Sara Evans - that was downright painful). Country music doesn't have to be loud - just from the heart - and that is the definition of Rosanne's work. Enjoyed every moment of the show. (Only one very small thing - she came out for a single encore but the song was too slow and mellow - I say always leave 'em dancin' in the aisles - let us walk out on a "high" !!!).

Rosanne's voice sounded as good as ever, and she really looks great. She's obviously taken great care of herself. She was smiling almost the whole time, and it was genuine. You could tell that she really enjoys sharing her music with her fans. It was a real treat to see one of my favorite singers of all time put on such a great performance with so much joy and energy. Speaking of which, the performance went on for a good two hours! As I expected, most of the setlist came from her most recent albums (including 6 songs from her latest), so I wasn't very familiar with a lot of the songs, but she did four of her well-known hits, including two of my top three favorite songs of hers, which I and everyone else appreciated. Promoting the 30 year anniversary and re-issue of King's Record Shop, she did four songs from that album, which was cool. I wish she had some something from Rhythm and Romance, but that's my only complaint.

My husband and I loved her performance. We are huge Roseann Cash fans, and have many of her cd's. She has a great voice and a warm and friendly personality. The real surprise for us was to learn what a great band she has. The musicians were phenomenal. It was truly a wonderful experience for us to see and hear such a talented lady in person. This event was also a birthday gift to me from my husband. Needless to say, I had a wonderful birthday. Thank you Roseann!

Rosanne and band played for 2 hrs. including 2 encore songs. She still has a superb voice and we loved her variety of songs. My favorite part of the show was when the two lead guitarists ( one her husband ) took turns showing their superb skills. Still get chills just reflecting on it ! She does her Mom and Dad proud !!!!

Rosanne Cash & Band were fabulous. I love that she shares the stories behind her songs - whether her inspiration to write them or why she picked a particular cover for the setlist. John Leventhal rocks on that guitar. They played songs from their newest album, River and a Thread, The List, Kings Record Shop, and a few others. Cash s concert reminds me of what I miss in today s modern music. It s sad that modern country relies more on trendy phrases and words to formulate songs; rather than narratives. Hopefully it can rebound, or at least find some balance.

I have been to numerous of her concerts and this truly was the finest to date. Part of it may be due to the acoustics of the Birchmere. Just a great evening overall!

Roseanne Cash sang songs that described the lore and legends of touring through the south. Giving us glimpses of characters and eccentricities of roads and lives interspersed with old favorites. Her clear voice shown through most of the evening. Cutting above the band with intent when the sound mixer would let her shine. The band was fine, just drowned her out in the beginning. Would love to here her with just her husband or an acoustic set. She has many stories to tell and through evocative writing will hopefully continue to share them.

Rosanne Cash played every song, in order, straight through her new album "The River & The Thread". It was marvelous! The album came about from a trip she made from Memphis to New Orleans to get back in touch with her Southern roots. Her 6 piece band with husband John on lead guitar was crisp & sharp. Loved the mandolin on some songs.Town Hall is a terrific venue because it's not very large & every seat is good. Rosanne did a great rendition of Bobbie Gentry's "Ode to Billie Joe", but my favorite song was "Motherless Children".

Roseanne Cash with her husband and her band was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. I listen to all types and styles of music and go to many concerts and this one was truly special. Roseanne Cash has a wonderful manner and makes you feel like she is singing to you. Her lyrics are perfect. Her band so tight and professional yet relaxed. I loved the way she did the new album in order and that she introduced each song by giving her audience insight into how her thoughts became the song. I wish I could see it again. Thank you.

Rosanne was in full voice, great new album, 8 piece band tastefully accenting the songs. Fascinating stories related behind most of the songs on the new album. What else need be said.

This was going to be interesting. Rosanne Cash is someone I ve always wanted to see live for so many reasons she s smart, she s funny, she has a great voice but I don t own any of her records so I am not familiar with her work. So anything she plays, whether old or new, would be new to me. Cash played two sets with an intermission. The first set was her latest album The River & the Thread played in order. The album is her love song to the south; a place where both her parents were raised but where she was not. Cash didn t spend a lot of time in the south until she was an adult. Each song had a story some very funny, some funny and sentimental, and some sentimental. Etta s Tune is for the woman married to her father s former bass player. They were married for 35 years (which is a record for a touring musician) and every morning when they woke up together, they d ask each other, What s the temperature, darling? John Leventhal, Cash s husband, songwriting partner (Cash-lyrics and Leventhal-music), guitarist, and musical director, told Cash that that was the first line to a song. There was a song about Mobile ( Night School ), where she s never been yet and one about Memphis 50,000 Watts is the tag line for the ad for a local radio station that, back when her father was in Memphis, played race music. BB King was a DJ for that station back then. Much of this record was inspired by a road trip on Highway 61, driving from Tennessee to New Orleans, where Cash and Leventhal stopped to see the vortex of music and revolution Robert Johnson s grave, the grocery store where Emmett Till made his innocent fatal mistake, and the Tallahatchie Bridge. There s a song about her grandmother Carrie Cash ( The Sunken Lands ), a strong influence on Cash s life. Leventhal and Cash s first husband Rodney Crowell wrote a song for Emmylou Harris. When Cash asked to sing it, her husband told her no. When some time had passed and Emmylou still hadn t recorded the song, Cash asked again and was told no again. Finally Cash asked Crowell to change the lyrics to be a song about the Civil War. Crowell agreed. Cash s son was working on a Civil War project for school and Cash found a photo of one of her ancestors who fought in the war (her family fought on both sides). As soon as Cash started singing When the Master Calls the Roll I heard Emmylou s voice loud and clear. Cash totally channeled Emmylou singing a melody that was made for her. After intermission, Cash performed songs from The List, her covers album and other older tunes. She ended the set with Seven Year Ache probably the song that first brought her to everyone s attention. It was funny to watch Cash change the set list ( It s my prerogative ) and see the musicians trying to catch up. Songs from The List included Girl from the North Country (Bob Dylan) and I m Movin On (Hank Snow). A song she regularly performs is Bobbie Jo Gentry s Ode to Billie Joe. She introduced the song by mentioning a bridge that loomed large and this was why, so I recognized right away what she was about to sing. Others didn t recognize it until the intro. And still others when she began singing. There was this weird smattering of applause and cheering and then a section of the audience tried to clap along but they were all clapping on a different (wrong) beat and it was almost unbearable. This happened with at least one or two other songs. For the encore Leventhal and Cash played a duet and then the full band came out for the last song. Cash did introduce the band fiddle/mandolin, electric bass, slide, acoustic, and electric guitar, drums, percussion, and keyboards but I didn t write down their names. But they were a wonderful tight band and the few solos were also beautiful. The percussionist didn t play during the second set and I thought maybe he d been fired but he showed up for the bow and the encore so I guess everything was okay. Strange that they couldn t figure out stuff for him to do on the older songs. Cash looked gorgeous in a black jacket with a few sequins, black jeans, and cowboy boots. It was the perfect stage outfit for her. Cash quoted director Peter Brook about turning over an hourglass before the start of the show and the performer and audience feel every grain of sand as it slips down. Rosanne Cash felt it all. The band felt it all. And we, the audience, felt it all.

Superb performance. The band was tight. The sound mix was excellent. Rosanne and her band were in a zen groove that night. Her decision to perform the new album in sequence was brilliant. The stories she told before each song brought meaning and relevance to each in a beautiful way. The entire evening was wonderful, very memorable. Thank you, Rosanne and band!

Let me just say first off that I have been a Rosanne Cash fan for a very long time now - BUT -I never had the opportunity to see her live. I was sooooooo very impressed with her stage presence from the minute she walked onto the stage - a real seasoned performer - who knows EXACTLY what her audience wants to hear. She began her set with her new album: "The River & The Thread", which by the way she played in it's entirerty from beginning to end, ( this was something she had wanted to do LIVE for a very long time now ever since she saw Lou Reed do it many years ago ! ), and the renditions of the songs were true to the album, beautifully arranged and performed. The highlight of the concert for me was when she sang a hauntingly beautiful version of the Bobby Gentry song: "Ode To Billie-Joe" ! Before she began the song, she told the story of how she recently visited many areas "Down South", and of course she went to the Tallahatchie River and stood on the famed "Tallahatchie Bridge" from that fabled song. She said she often wondered WHAT "Billie & Bobbie" had thrown-off "The Bridge" - Rosanne said that SHE threw-off a guitar pick !! Overall Rosanne Cash sang and performed beautifully throughout her two sets - sometimes confusing her hubby and band leader - John Leventhal - by changing her set-list and Rosanne responded: "It's my prerogative to change the set list" !! YOU GO GUUURRLL !! It's YOUR SHOW and YOU get to sing what-eva you want !! It truly was a great performance - loved by ALL who attended. Best Wishes on a successful "Mini-Tour" and mark my words - YOU WILL WIN THE GRAMMY next year for this album - the BEST of her career as many are touting - and I certainly CONCUR !! It is DEF one of the best listens so far this year !! WE LUV YA ROSIE ! Your parents would be soooooo proud of you now and as you heard that night - WE-R-2 !!!

Very good show. Really enjoy listening to her voice and arrangements. Recognized that she wanted to get her new album out there, but I guess I would have preferred she intersperse it throughout the show. Since I prefer to hear her singing songs, probably would have preferred less musical interludes, although the musicians themselves were excellent. Town Hall is a great place to see a show.

What an amazing night. Rosanne played every song on her new record and a collection of classics. She and the band were amazing, and the venue allowed each note to resonate like rain on a tin roof. We had never been to the Heymann before, and the sound was the best I have ever heard. I will be intentional in seeking out other opportunities to go this great auditorium.

All I knew about Rosanne Cash was that she was Johnny's daughter. This concert was my husband's choice and it was a great choice! Rosanne has a mesmerizing voice and lovely story telling that enriched the experience. I bought the CD and look forward to another opportunity to hear her play live. I was so enthralled with the whole experience that there was no one favorite moment. All the songs were new to me so I have no idea of the names of the songs that were played.

This was a concert full of magic and mystery. Why? The artist, Rosanne Cash took us into her heart and revealed her personal history with the music and lyrics, both full of strong emotions resulting from her reconnection with the South. The new album, The River and the Thread was performed during the first set and the audience was enthralled. The second set consisted of some Rosanne Cash standards and other notable songs from The List album. Magical night of beautiful poetic southern inspired music. A concert not to be missed. It will transport you to a warm, delta evening, with a sense of mystery, charm, and a bit of southern remorse..
