Fun show in a beautiful theater with amazing sound. This performance stands out from traditional Christmas shows. Highly reccommend!

The Squirrel Nut Jobs--I mean Squirrel Nut Zippers--put on an incredible show. You cannot pigeonhole this band. Their sound is distinctively retro, but they've added a lot of quirkiness and energy to it. Hard to say whether you'd like them, because they're in a class by themselves. The closest thing to it, for me, is either Brave Combo or Bumper Jackson. If you like this, then you might check out the DC Weirdo Show, at the Bier Baron near Dupont Circle, in Washington. Not for everyone, but I loved it.

Fantastic night at the Birchmere with the sounds of the Squirrel Nut Zippersand the Birchmeres usual high quality menu served by the most professional and talented wait staff! The Zippers sound is amazing, the show they put on is even more amazing! High energy swing with high energy performers! After the show it was such a pleasure to be able to mingle with and get a few pictures with various Zippers....they not only performed at a high level of talen; but they took the time (when you know they had to be tired) to spend so much time with the fans who travelled to see them. That was such a great opportunity to let them know how much we enjoyed their show.....I am a fan forever!

Many dedicated fans attended the concert. It was a lively night with many well known tunes! Alas, the amplification made their music painful to the ears! Way too loud! Made it a challenge to enjoy it as we might have otherwise.

The Squirrel Nut Zippers concert was zany and fun. The main criticism, which unfortunately affected the entire concert, was that the sound was much too loud and shrill. The acoustics were sometimes almost too much to bear. In addition, the decibel level made it very difficult to hear the words. Immediately following the concert, I listened to the HOT CD and wished the volume and quality of the sound was more like the recording. The opening act, Stern and Cotton were terrific, and because you could listen without having your hearing be uncomfortable, they in many ways were the more pleasing act.

SNZ are absolutely amazing. The show was awesome!!! The only downside was i wish they played longer!!! I really wish they would make new albums and I hope they continue touring.

I've previously only listened to their music on my computer and thought it was great. Then I saw tickets on sale and figured, what the heck. My wife was a bit reluctant to go. A little strange while waiting for the show to start, but when it did...WOW! We were both blown away! High energy, and sounded fantastic. Hope they come back to the area soon.

From the second the curtains opened for the SNZ's until they shut again, every moment was filled with an awesome fun, funky energy! The trumpet player was amazing!!! Excellent skills!! The rest of the band was just as outstanding and fun to watch but the trumpet player shined. Cathryn's beautiful voice never faultered... for a live show, that's hard to do!! If you weren't a fan before last night... you would have left as a new recruit!!

My favorite band Squirrel Nut Zippers wowed them in Cleveland. Though I think I prefer to see them in a club setting, it was a beautiful night and a great show in Cain Park. Next time they come this way I would love to see them come down to my hometown of Youngstown.

One of the most enigmatic, classy [ and spooky ! ] bands I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. They defy easy classification and their talent is as singular as their sound. It has been many, many years since I have seen them live. They disappeared off the radar just after they had reached the peak of their power... Well now they are back ! And man-oh-man are they ever ! The show was S-T-E-L-L-A-R .! .. over 300 folks at the perfectly small outdoor venue at Cain Park. My only regret was that the show did not sell out. The Zippers truly deserved a sell-out crowd. They are simply that entertaining and electrifying. Perfect summer night. Gorgeous venue. and music that you will never forget --- plus the onstage humour and antics that keep you grinning until your jaw hurts !

Squirrel Nut Zippers are always amazing and their show in Cain Park in Cleveland, Ohio was yet another incredible show. They have it all, astounding showmanship, incredible sound, fantastic sense of humor and a near-magical quality that pulls the audience in and is simultaneously sophisticated and intricate, yet down-home and fun as well. They played in the open-air Evans Ampitheatre venue where the ceiling is made of, I think, wood and metal. In spite of early concerns about the sound mix resulting from the acoustics, to my untrained ears it sounded perfect and wonderful. They started with a classic ballad, "Falling in Love Again," which Katharine Whalen sang, and worked in a couple of other classic non-SNZ songs, all of which were lovely. They played many of the timeless favorite SNZ songs, including "Good Enough for Grandad, "Put a Lid on It," "Prince Nez," "The Suits are Picking up the Bill," "Hell," "Ghost of Stephen Foster" and others. They even played a brand new song Jimbo Mathus recently wrote, "Snip, Nip and Tuck," which was inspired by plastic surgery disasters in the news and had a delightful calypso style beat. They did two sets with a brief intermission, which in my experience is unusual for Squirrel Nut Zippers, but it just gave me a chance to get excited all over again. In addition to amazing music, they put on a really cool show with dancing and much moving around onstage. Katharine, Jimbo, Je Widenhouse, Henry Westmoreland and the other horn player whose name I don't know did a group step-back-and-jump-forward movement that was very cool. Jimbo and Katharine danced along the front of the stage, which actually made me slightly nervous because right in front of the stage was the deepest orchestra pit I've ever seen, made of concrete. It must have been at least a 12-foot drop. But of course, no one fell off and all was well. They had a stage prop of two staircases back to back and made good use of those. Katharine climbed up and down them a couple of times, Chris Phillips made use of them once and Katharine and Jimbo both climbed up and then down them at the end, pausing at the top to take their final bows. Bottom line, their music and onstage antics put smiles on everyone's faces. After the show I overheard one guy describe the band as "Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun." I'm pretty sure he said the word "fun" at least five times. After the show most of the band members signed autographs at the merchandise table and chatted with fans, which made it an even more unforgettable experience for those who got to meet Jimbo, Katharine, Chris, Stu Cole, Je and the new horn player whose name I don't know. I love this band and could happily see every one of their shows (with lottery winnings, I wish) and never ever get bored. I highly recommend Squirrel Nut Zippers to anyone who appreciates quality music and entertainment, served with a generous helping of beyond-excellent musicianship and a side of not taking oneself too seriously. If you get the chance to see them, go! (Unfortunately, Cain Park doesn't allow photography so I got no photos. - but that was the ONLY disappointment, and it wasn't the band's fault one bit.)

Let's put their stellar musicianship to the side and talk about what beautiful people they are. Their love for people and music is always put out front in the party they have onstage. That natural sound of vintage big band swing fills the room, you can hear, see, and feel the care they have for the show, the fans, and the art. I will always drop what I'm doing to see them perform!

On this anniversary tour, I was initially disappointed to read that Katherine Whalen would not be a part of it. And her sultry androgynous presence was missed on stage. But it was more than made up for in the character of Dr. Sick on violin, banjo, even the saw. Although at this point, there are only two original Zippers in the lineup, Jimbo has assembled a more than qualified group of new recruits that captured the old vibe perfectly. And again, I can't stress enough how entertaining the addition of Dr. Sick was. He more than made up for the vacuum left by Katherine and Tom Maxwell's absence. It was everything you want from a SNZ show - fun, entertaining, upbeat old school style!

This evening was such a great event. I have been wanting to see Squirrel Nut Zippers since I was in High School and did not pass up this opportunity. I invited a date that had never seen or been either and it was magic. We started at RT's and had a cuisine right from New Orleans. then moved to The Birchmere which had such a great touch of Madi Gras. This venue is not like any I have been to in the past, the lobby looked like something taken from the streets of New Orleans. The Band did not disappoint, they played all my favorite and some new songs that added to the Voodoo vibe that was already going. The band played from the stage to the lobby where you could meet and talk with the band. Thank you to all that made this night, it was well worth it.

Following the Squirrel Nut Zippers for 20 years ! but never saw them in concert , totally incredible performance . Every song was played with soul of musicians that gave all . Highly recommend anyone into jazz swing ,with a little satire . Even after the concert and bows , the band played thru the crowd and meet and greet in the lobby ! Signing autographs ,conversation and amusement ! Almost like a small town friendly band ! can't wait to see them again , at the Ritz theatre or any place . Looking forward to their new music 2018 !

This was billed as the "Christmas Caravan" and there were a few, appropriately skewed holiday tunes including the show-ending "Sleigh Ride." The show was fast paced (with a few slower tunes to rest up) with lots of on stage antics and frolicking. Sound was a bit off in the beginning with ear piercing vocals, but balanced out soon enough. We all left with smiles on our faces. The only complaint: The show is a bit short at around 90 minutes including a two song encore.

I was hooked on Squirrel Nut Zippers "Hot" album over 20 years ago and was captivated again by their performance at the Tillis Center at C W Post - Long Island University. The concert was exciting and fun. The catchy rhythms, riffs and lyrics of their songs are performed with great showmanship and in a New Orleans carnival atmosphere. I and the rest of the audience loved it.

The show at the Fillmore was totally awesome. We got to stand in the front row. The show was dynamic, full of energy and flawlessly executed. The opening band California Feetwarmers was also very entertaining. Let me say that Dr. Sick is such a great addition to the band and sound. He adds a ton of personality and fun to the show as well. After watching many of the concert clips online, I had really liked Ingrid Lucia as the female lead and was worried about Cella Blue, but after a few songs, I really liked her performance. Again, high energy, fun, funny! Jimbo is a great Entertainer. The horns section was great. Love Tamara on the bass as well. Ok, the whole band is just amazing, can't say enough. This was my wife's first time experiencing the band, their music and the show - my first time seeing them live. We left with smiles all over!

The Squirrel Nut Zippers show on Saturday was incredible. What a great group of musicians. One of the best moments was when the fiddle player sat down during a slower tune, picked up a hand saw and bow, and played a solo with it. I've seen it done before but to see it in person was awesome. Go see them if you get a chance. You won't be dissappointed.

Don't miss these GREAT performers. Their stage act and musicianship ranks with the best. I wasn't familiar with them and left loving what they did. They're so good that the venue staff had to give up trying to keep people from dancing in the aisles. I'll definitely see them again and next time go for front orchestra seats instead of first row balcony. The Squirrel Nut Zippers will give you a night out you'll cherish forever!

I never saw the original SNZ lineup. I was aware this was not the original lineup of SNZ, but my husband is a huge fan of their music and their new female singer, Ingid Lucia, so we went. I was expecting a night of fun and dancing, but the audience at the Bergen PAC was not into the band at all. Anyone who got up and danced (including me and my husband) were asked to sit down. Who sits down at a concert, much less a band with swinging tunes?? Another bummer was Ingrid Lucia did not sing that night. And intermission was really weird. I've never been to a concert with intermission. Bottom line... although all of the musicians were good, I felt the band was missing a chemistry that makes a solid band. The violin player was the most amazing one of the night. He had the energy and the talent and the passion that I love to see in musicians.

Didn't know a whole lot about the band, had heard a few swing numbers and thought they had a cool name, so I went. It was Fan Tas TIC!!! Very high energy, great music, and really played to the crowd. A pity more of the crowd didn't dance in the aisles, because they were all for it. Would definitely go again!

A welcome return of hot jazz. This is the real deal and the Zippers breathe life into a somwhat forgotten American musical genre. But where would rock and roll be if one of its roots didn't begin here. Don't go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to understand the past. Go see the Zippers and it will all become clear. Music like this belongs on a stage not a museum. And you don't have to be quiet and you can touch. Somewhere Sachmo is smiling and you will too. Catch this tour.

The evening was OK... Unfortunately, I think there was only 1 original member. Luckily it was JIMBO! However, the band sound system lacked POP all night long. Although she can sing, the female lead didn't have the stage presence nor sexy appeal to carry songs on her own. The best part of the night was when it was over and the band went out in the lobby for meet and greet. Nice touch!

I was excited to see that SNZ was performing; I'd never seen them live before, but like their swing / gypsy / boogie-woogie jazz vibe. Even though they started in NC, only 2 current members of the band (Jimbo and Chris) are original. The new members were excellent, particularly Henry Westmoreland on sax, who's played with them before, and "Dr. Sick" (Justin Carr) on violin, banjo and musical saw. They played a number of their hits, and it was an excellent show. The reason I subtracted 2 stars was partially under their control, partially not. The band was painfully over-miked, occasionally to distortion, with ear-ringing levels. This is particularly ironic, because they were performing 1920's style jazz in the Carolina Theatre, which opened in 1926 - its acoustics were designed for non-amplified vaudeville music - the best thing that could have happened would have been if there was a power outage and they had to perform without mikes and amps. The other problem was the audience, one of the noisiest and rudest I've encountered in 40 years of theater-going. Many people talked throughout the performance, and despite being told on theater entry, and again before the performance, that no photography, recording or texting was allowed, the light from numerous cell phones was clearly evident throughout the auditorium. There was an opening act, which had not been advertised; during their set, someone in the audience shouted "We want Squirrel Nuts!"...this disrespect of the performers and overall rudeness, compromises the ability of theaters such as the Carolina to attract quality acts, and the management needs to act more aggressively to deter such bad behavior.

I have never before seen a concert with such sustained energy and joy. The reborn Squirrel Nut Zippers may be the best yet--looser and more vibrant. As before, they brought together a great love of all kinds of music ingeniously blended into their unique sound. The few slower ballads and tight harmonies only emphasized the breadth of their music. By the end, everyone was standing, dancing in the aisles and cheering wildly Perhaps the best concert I have ever attended!
