Dear Pete Townsend, I understand this is your show and you can pick whoever you'd like to sing your songs. Alfie Boe didn't do you songs justice. His English tenor voice made every song sound the same. I was extremely disappointed in the show. Billy Idol would have sang your songs with the heart that was needed. I enjoyed seeing you the 3 times you came on stage to sing back up. Once again Alfie's voice overwhelmed the stage and we couldn't hear you. The orchestra was fantastic thank you for that. I'll always be your fan, I'm just disappointed that seeing you for the last time in my lifetime was Disappointing.

Alfie the tenor is a cross between a musical signer and a lounge singer. He does a terrible job. There is zero acting or choreography other than some terrible boxing match like dancing. The orchestra clearly did not practice enough and Pete and Alfie missed a que. Watch the movie or listen to the album or go to a Who concert.

First off, the 130+ orchestra & choir was incredible. Alfie Boe has a remarkable range, but poorly placed in this production. His delivery was wearing on us & we couldn't wait for the instrumental portions of the production for relief. Rodger Daltrey was sorely missed, along with Pete Townsend singing his own songs. Alfie flubbed some lyrics & the section of the song had to be repeated.Also. he constantly encouraged crowd clap-alongs....horrendous. Couldn't hear Pete's acoustic guitar on I'm One & Drowned.

Pete's vision of how Quadrophenia should truly look as a Rock Opera was played out and it was a smash hit! Everything was tremendous, the entire orchestra, the chorus, Alfie, Eddie Veder, Billy Idol and of course, Pete! I truly didn't want it to end, I would highly recommend you see this if it comes back to Chicago! Pete Townsend is a musical genius, this composition was modern day Beethoven or Bach presented in this format.

A little different but SO beautiful. The audience didn't know if we should applaud or not - an orchestra was playing. You're not supposed to applaud during an orchestra's performance!! Allie Boe helped us out!! The man has an amazing voice. He was 90% of the show. Would have loved to see Pete perform a little more. Fun to see Billy Idol and Eddie Vedder as well. Once more - just a beautiful performance!!

The orchestra was amazing. Alfie Boe is very talented opera singer but I was not expecting to pay over $1000 for his concert. Pete, Eddie Vedder, and Billy Idol made a few appearances but did no solos. I thought for sure Eddie would sing Love Reign O'er Me as he does at Pearl Jam concerts. Not at all what I expected. The venue was great but I could have bought the same tix a couple days before the show for half the price on Ticketmaster. It went to a good cause so I'm at peace with that✌️

The Opera House is beautiful and the sound was excellent. Pete Townsend, Billy Idol and Alfie Boe were great. After all these years Pete Townsend is still great. Billy Idol has a great voice and Alfie's voice is incredible. We are glad that we were able to see this show.

It was not what I was expecting. The orchestra was great, but I went to see Billy Idol and Pete. Billy probably sung for about 3 minutes the entire concert, and only about 30 seconds of that he was singing solo, not exaggerating. And Pete was out for maybe 10 minutes. And I was also hoping they would play an encore of 1-3 songs from Billy's catalogue or other Who songs just to spice it up. But nope, just Quadrophenia and the end. Overall still happy I went but having seen The Who twice and Billy Idol solo prior to this show, those past shows were WAY better.

I had never been to the Met Opera before, and it was memorable. It included a new orchestration for full orchestra and chorus. The lead was sung by tenor Alfie Boe; Pete put in an appearance only for a few numbers, as did Billy Idol.

Alfie Boe was full of energy and really performed for the audience. Billy Idol was just great as always and Pete Townsend, the orchestra, and choir were terrific. My one comment would be was some of the music was stretched out I believe to lengthen the piece

Seeing Quadrophenia at the Metropolitan Opera was a dream come true - and I never had the dream. The Opera House is impressive with beautiful lighting and decor. Quadrophenia was an album I played over and over as a teen drawing in my room as a teenager. The venue was fantastic, such a great crowd and the show - fantastic. Pete Townsend, Billy Idol, the choir and orchestra were magnificent. And while I would have loved seeing and hearing Roger Daltry, Alfie Boe did a stand up performance with a much smoother voice than the rugged Daltry voice. All and all I'm so glad I went, made me very happy and brought back good memories.

As a die hard Who fan, the Quadrophenia concert at the Metropolitan Opera House was impressive but didn't quite hit the mark. The Met itself is beautiful and we splurged on parterre (box) seats with great sight lines and acoustics. British tenor Alfie Boe (sp?) gave a spirited lively vocal performance but was no Roger Daltrey. I felt Alfie's singing was too operatic and didn't have enough range for a rock opera like Quadrophenia, also lyrics were muddled. Pete Townsend was fantastic of course, and Billy Idol was quite good. "Rain on Me" was the highlight of the evening for me.

Attended the performance of Classic Quadrophenia on Saturday, Sept 9 at the NY Met Opera. It was a memorable evening punctuated by unexpected production and a splendid re-work of what I consider one of rock & roll's classic works of art. The lead was handled by tenor Alfie Boe, who provided an incredible and wonderous rendition of the lead vocals and lead performance for the show. Not once did I think to myself, "I wish this were Roger Daltrey instead (and I am a Daltrey fan). Alfie was energetic and pulled off the substitution with aplomb! He was joined intermittently on-stage through the evening by Billy Idol, and none other than Mr Townshend himself. The major component of the show was the NY Philharmonic orchestra, complete with full choir (75+). The richness and fullness of sound was just "music to the ears"! The entire volume of the Quad album was re-worked and no part was left for the imagination. I have attended hundreds of concerts in my decades of being an ardent follower of music, and rock in general. This ranked among all, and I would hope that the few shows that were produced for this tour are replicated in due time. LONG LIVE ROCK!!!!!

The show/concert would be better called "Pete Townshend's Classical Quadrophenia" rather than "Classic Quadrophenia" as it really is a reinterpretation of Quadrophenia with a full orchestra and a full choir. It was not presented as an opera; instead, the full piece was performed with the singers (Alfie Boes in the lead with Billy Idol and Pete Townshend singing a few parts) singing in front of the orchestra and choir - sort of like the "Three Tenors" setup. First, the good: Pete Townshend's goal of having a fully arranged and orchestrated version of one of his many masterpieces has been substantially achieved. I was a bit skeptical when I saw an orchestra and choir but no guitar amps on stage but the arrangement and execution of the piece were mostly excellent. Accepting the fact that it would not be a simulation of either the recording nor The Who's own live performance of Quadrophenia, but, rather, a new interpretation, it was overall a very good experience. The lead singer, Alfie Boes, really threw himself into the piece and he gave a fantastic performance. Most parts of Quadrophenia held up well in this interpretation and some were arguably superior, but a few aspects missed the mark: Keith Moon's drum fills were NOT faithfully transcribed, and they were, for me, sorely missed in a couple of key places. The percussion section did not have a full drum kit, which felt like a mistake as they were unable to recreate the flavor of Keith Moon's drumming. The percussionists played as if they were sight-reading the score for the first time and had never heard the original, so much of the musical aggression was watered down. The horns also played with too much legato, so the beat and the drive of the music were again missing in key places. I would direct another quibble at the sound engineer: he/she failed to compensate for the difference in vocal power between the lead singer, Alfie Boes (who has a tremendously powerful voice), and Billy Idol and Pete Townshend, whose voices aren't trained to project on stage like Alfie Boes's voice. We could barely hear Billy Idol and Pete Townshend at times, which was a shame. All in all it was a very good show. Some, including me, might prefer to hear The Who perform it live, but at least now there is a written score that will allow Quadrophenia to be performed live by future generations long into the future!

This was one of the most fulfilling, trippiest shows I have ever been to. How refreshing to hear a classic rock opera orchestrated for a symphony orchestra and full choir! The Who's Pete Townshend was there singing, playing guitar, and even dancing around. His obviously humbled attitude seemed to be a thrill. He gave many a head nod to the orchestra, conductor, Alfie Boe, Billy Idol, and us, the fans. The crowd was amazing. Nothing stuffy going on here. Casual, appreicative, a few "Whhhhhhoooooooo's" and "Woooooo's" no ball gowns and tuxedos (having been held at the NY Metropolitan Opera House, I thought it may be). Alfie and Billy were out of this world. They kept the audience engaged, asking for us to sing and clap along. I had a great time - the music was extraordinary!! Totally recommended. Thanks guys!

I had no idea this was the Alfie Boe Show; Townshend and Billy sang 4-5 songs with Alfie Boe. I would have preferred a rock n roller not an opera singer for the money albeit his voice was great. Peter Townshend only played two songs on guitar which was disappointing ; I realize he needs someone with Range to sing but a guy like Rob Thomas or Myles Kennedy could have fit the bill

Pete Townsend is a genius, and innovator. I admire that he always tries new ways of communicating his classic songs, and he has done that again. The orchestra was fantastic, the venue sublime. However, and I say this as a huge fan, the performance didn't work for me. I was looking forward to seeing Billy Idol, who wasn't used properly. He should have been the main singer. The tenor who was, although a classical performer, couldn't deliver the songs in my opinion and was a constant reminder of how good Daltry is as an interpreter of Pete's songs. Of course, the venue and orchestra made it a beautiful evening, and I continue to support Pete in all his endeavors.

YOUR LEGACY WILL LIVE FOREVER, and RACHEL ACCOMPLISHED THE TRUEST LABOR OF LOVE! Pete, you are #MYMAINMAN , AND THE GREATEST MUSICIAN/SONGWRITER/VISIONARY of the 20th and 21st centuries! In 2015, I saw the fourth show of THE WHO HITS 50, in Raleigh, NC, and I lost my mind! Yes, I have caught a couple of shows back in the day as well! I was sorry Roger fell so ill shortly after! BUT YOU HAD EDDIE VEDDER STEP IN, and I ADORE HIM TOO! HE'S SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL! And I know YOU and NEIL YOUNG mentored young EDDIE admirably! Your songs reach me deeper than any other artist! The stories they tell are truly timeless, and when I listen, I just want to know more, to learn more, to sit by the fireside, and listen to YOU! EDDIE's a great songwriter too, and HE GETS IT FROM YOU! FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART AND SOUL, THANK YOU FOR ALL THE GIFTS YOU GAVE US, and ensuring they would live forever! "This one went to 11" I only regret that I cannot see it again. It was one of the most incredible audio experiences of my life. A work of musical art on par with Hamilton--I'm not kidding. When you hear one of the greatest rock operas ever, played by the largest classical music orchestra you can imagine and a 300 person chorus, you have an audio experience that is nearly impossible to top. Throw in Alfi Boe, one of the greatest Broadway voices of the age, and bring Billy Idol and of course the man himself, Pete Townsend, on stage to play and sing as well. How does this get any better? Pete, please do this again!

Classic Quadrophenia may be Pete Townshend's rock opus but it is left primarily to Alfie Boe to perform it. All 3, Alfie Boe, Billy Idol and Pete Townshend are excellent in their roles but it is Alfie Boe who is on stage 80% of the time. Incredibly he has the energy to belt out the songs while jumping, leaping and dancing throughout. His rendition of Love Reign O'er Me is show stopping. If you like Quadrophenia or if you have never heard it Classic Quadrophenia is worth experiencing.

Awesome show! Unlike anything I've ever seen before, or ever will again. Full orchestration and a chorus; so many people on stage! Alfie Boe was phenomenal in the lead character's role. He sounds a lot like Roger Daltrey, only with classical opera training. Pete Townsend and Billy Idol played their parts with vigor. The audience became very involved. The score was a beautiful enrichment, like hearing Quadrophenia through a sonic microscope, accentuating every note you've heard for years, to make it sound more fulfilling than it ever has before. Pete Townsend has achieved the ultimate ROCK OPERA.

Quadrophenia, greatest album of all time, explored in a new and exciting musical world via a symphony with perhaps the world;s best tenor. The musical genius of composer Pete aligned with the gifted voice of Alfie Boe. We have Roger's replacement in case he decides he has "Had Enough." So cool that Boe is into rock music to go with such amazing performances as Les Miserables. Check out his love of Queen and Freddy Mercury on You Tube. Loved his enthusiasm for each Quadrophenia song. His energy made the show more rock and roll than one would anticipate. He blended in well with the voice of Billy Idol, ramping it down slightly to give Idol a chance at being heard. Hearing the symphony interpret Quadrophenia, as Pete said he originally intended, was awesome. Too bad the audience didn't know whether to stand up and cheer like at a rock show or sit on your hands quietly like at a Broadway show. Ya do both!! The encore was an amazing version of The Real Me with Pete, Alfie and Billy all showing off their talents. ---Thank you Pete for once again for expanding the unlimited potential of the best album of all time and Rock and Roll.

I was so excited for this show, having seen The Who perform Quadrophenia several years ago and then The Who again earlier this year, amazing both times, particularly the Quadrophenia show, but this was just corny. That being said, my boss (who is slightly younger than me and a huge huge fan) said he really enjoyed it. The show seemed more about Alfie Boe prancing up and down the stage than Pete or the music. And honestly, even though Roger is STILL amazing, in his day, he could hit the higher notes that Alfie could not for this show. Billy Idol was nothing more than a novelty up there, with matching hanging chains for both Alfie and Billy to their wallets or keys. And the way they sang to each other, oye vey, it was painful. The orchestra was huge and amazing though, with I'm guessing a 60-person choir. But sorry, can't recommend. It was a really ambitious cool idea, but it didn't work for me.

I'd love to say that I enjoyed this show more than I did, but I did not. Roger Daltry was not there, which I knew. In his place was Alfie Boe, an English tenor who has won a Tony for his work in Les Miserables and this man has a powerful, dazzling voice and operatic stage presence (before I get into the rest of my review, I want to make sure to give the man his props, plain and simple). With that said, to me the voice just did not sync with the music. Although this re-imagined variation on Quadrophenia was set to a symphony (which was enjoyable and well arranged) I had a difficult time staying in the music with the voice coming through. I applaud the production not going the route of a copycat Roger Daltry but my, and it appeared numerous other attendees', brain could not wrap itself around the delivery of the music in relation to what I've heard for decades. Separately, Pete Townshend himself did not perform very much and David Bowie was not strongly utilized. These were also head scratchers to an already scratchy night.

Flew down to LA (from San Jose) specifically to see Classic Quadrophenia. Love The Who and Pete Townshend, so this was a chance to see Pete and to hear Quadrophenia live. The classical version is wonderful. Full orchestra with Alfie Boe singing the "Roger Daltrey" parts and Billy Idol and Pete (with acoustic guitar) coming on and off stage when needed as their parts come into play. Not a rock concert, per say, but a super clean orchestral version. If you love music, you'd appreciate this version. It was wonderful to see Pete! Billy Idol was incredible; a wonderful singer & stage persona. But I've got to be honest, Alfie was the real hit of the show. Gorgeous tenor voice and he sang with passion. At the end, Pete kissed everybody as he truly appreciated how these artists interpreted his composition. If they end up doing this tour in more US cities, highly recommend it.

ARTSYL
The tenor, Alfie Boe , was absolutely powerful! His singing projected so much emotion, and his body was energetic!!

The music is amazing! Excellent orchestration. The sound quality was very poor for the first 15 minutes - making the lyrics unintelligible. This is probably our last visit to The Greek Theatre. Between the poor sound and the antics of the audience - it seemed everyone around us was more into having a tailgate party than listening to the music - it's just not worth the price of the ticket.

I didn't know what to expect and yet it somehow exceeded any expectations I had. The orchestra was amazing and the singing was perfect. I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. So glad I went!

Excluding the nearly 30 minute intermission, there was less than 90 minutes of music. The music was fun, but Pete Townshend did very little. He was not on stage most of the time and when he was he played guitar you could barely hear in the mix or he sang one of the "characters" (bus driver, or whatever). I am just glad I paid $100 for a seat way off to the side on the floor. I would have been outraged if I had paid $1,000. It looked like seats right before the show had dropped to $250, so that would be another reason to be annoyed. I know it is for a charity, and I know Pete is over 70, but this was overpriced for what you got.

What a thrill to see Pete Townshend's Classic Quadrophenia at Chicago's nearby Rosemont Theatre! Especially since this tour only appeared in 3 other prestigious venues - NYC Met, Tanglewood near Boston, and Greek Theatre in LA. Tenor Alfie Boe stunned the audience as he brought his powerful voice and high energy to the role of Jimmy! Legends Pete Townshend, Billy Idol, and Eddie Vedder rounded out this elite group! Pete's music was beautifully orchestrated by Rachel Fuller and brilliantly conducted by Robert Ziegler! This was a phenomenal concert, once in a lifetime opportunity, and not to be missed! Who knows if Pete will ever decide to bring this rock opera back our way again! Pray he does!

This turned out to be more of a musical than a concert. This is the way Pete intended it to be, I just wasn't aware of that before the show. I had assumed there would be the rest of The Who musicians (Pino/Simon/Zak etc..) but that was not the case. In fact, there was no bass player at all, that I noticed. Those parts and the rest of the music were handled by the Chicago Pops Symphony and the Chicago Children's Choir. They were excellent, no doubt. I was disappointed at the very limited appearances by Eddie Vedder and Pete Townshend. Vocals on parts of a few songs. Pete played acoustic guitar on 'I'm One' and a small few parts in others. Overall, it was Alfie Boe's show. I have no idea what this bouncing around in a fighters stance was all about, I suppose it was part of the Quadrophenia story? No idea, but for the others, his antics seemed to make them uncomfortable or unsure what to do. Billy Idol was quite good actually. His vocals were handled well and he had a good stage presence. Kudos there. Just be aware of what you are going to see. I am glad to support Teen Cancer America and it's always good to see Pete and Eddie. But it was not a rock show by any standards...not that Pete cares (and rightfully so...).

If you are a fan of the Who and know the story behind Quadrophenia, this was a once in a lifetime show not to be missed! The venue holds maybe 4,000, so there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The sound was absolutely spectacular. Kudos to Billy Idol AND Eddie Vedder for their performances. Alfie Boe has an incredible voice, but man if Roger Daltrey had been on board, this would rate among my top ten. My only wish was that it had been a longer show :(. All in all, an immensely enjoyable performance, pricey, but for a very good cause.

Saw last night at the Greek Theater in LA. Pete was only out for a few songs and phoned it in. I know that it was billed as an orchestra event featuring Pete but he was disappointingly absent!!! The orchestra was really good and Billy Idol was only out here and there just for a little bit at a time. Don't waste your money on a close-up seat like I did you can sit anywhere for this and it won't matter. Also as a general note to my concert going friends. Please try to follow Golden rule of do you want to others as you would like to have them do you want to you when you go to concerts. Number one is stop videotaping every single bit of it with your extremely bright mobile phones. If you have to video please dim the phone to its lowest possible light. It will not affect the actual recording but the people behind you have to look at that and it's very distracting and frustrating.. Number two. SHUT UP!!! It's just like a movie theater everyone can hear what's going on. And the lower the music gets the louder you have to talk to the person next to you which means that the people around you have to listen to it. It's a concert everyone wants to have a good time and people always will have a little comment or two but having conversations is really not appropriate save it until after the show damn it!! Enough is enough.

I am a fan of The Who, Billy Idol, and Eddie Vedder; but it was Alfie Boe who blew me away with his amazing performance. It was an amazing performance with the proceeds going to Teen Cancer America.

I was hoping for a fuller richer version of Quad, with a orchestra added to a band, and a singer who could do justice to the vocals. Instead, there was no guitar, bass or drums (other than the orchestral ones) and the singer, who is an opera singer, could hit the notes, but couldn't shake the formal operatic vocal approach - although I give him credit for trying to exude a tough street fighter vibe. It all sounded the same and was poorly miked with speakers rhat periodically dropped or popped. I left at intermission. Nice try, but it didn't work.
