I had a, albeit one-sided, reunion on Friday night with what felt like an old friend that I hadn't seen in many, many years. I got to hear all those tunes that I have not been able to hear over the past 10+ years since the break-up with the ABB. I planned on going to the show alone, but was able to have a great friend join me at the last moment, for his first show. As per usual, I stood and danced the entire show. There were plenty of seats to be had but I refuse to be like the 99% of the fans there that night: SITTING! So I say now...I will stop going to shows when I can no longer stand and dance the entire evening.

What a great show. The venue was perfect, the crowd wasn't too crazy and even some brought their kids (which turned out to be fine and appropriate). He played about a two and a half hour set- with Dickey you ALWAYS get your money's worth! I'd see him again anytime!

I've never been to the Birchmere before, but I'm glad we went. Although unimpressive from the outside, the inside was designed for music and fun. The food was good and the seats great. It was good to be able to sit down and yet be so close to the band. The music: awesome! Dickie can still play that guitar like a ************! The whole band was great. My wife was not familiar with him and she was pretty impressed. Went with friends and had a great time. They played for a long time! The music is a joy to listen to. Does not sound "dated", or from another era; could be contemporary. Would like to see Greg Allman sometime, but this showed you the engine behind some of their hits. A virtuoso, without a doubt. He reminded me of a simple, unpretensious man who loves good music. Would recommend the band and the venue to anyone.

It was definitely worth the 3 hour drive to Allentown to see one of the best guitarists ever. Loved the venue. Loved the show! I have never seen Betts before so i was really anticipating alot and they did really well. The bass player Pedro was outstanding as well. The half hour version of Elizabeth Reed was cool. Loved the drum solos and the way they played Blue Sky. I would definitely see him again. Might be going to see him in State College this tuesday because i was born a ramblin man!

The music went on and on. All of the musicians were beyond belief. I felt that each song was better than the previous one. The concert included an unfogettable rendition of Rambling Man with the entire crowd on their feet cheering for more music. The brief interlude between the sets was filled by two great drum solos and a solo on base guitar. I believe that Dickey and Great Southern is one of the greatest guitar bands and should be seen at least once by everyone who enjoys this type of music

Great show!!! Great guitar riffs!!! Very tight band of musicians. Bass player Pedro Arevalo "yeah mon" had a phenomenal bass solo as did both drummers James Varnado and Frankie Lombardi who blew everyone away in a battle of the drums solos, and Mike Kach is an excellent keyboardist and vocalist . Dickey Betts bringing along his son Duane who has inherited his father's talent and has a bright future and the other guitarist Andy Aledort played some sweet slide and was in complete command right up there with Dickey. Go SEE THEM if you like vintage southern rock and roll!

Dickey Betts put on an excellent concert. It was like the Allman Brothers of old. He nailed all his solos and singing. He also basically did a greatest hits show, which I had never seen from the Allman Brothers, and I saw them three times. His band was great too. A lot of good jamming.

I have seen Dickey solo and with the Allman Bros over 35 times so when I say it was sad to see Dickey unable to play guitar anymore, I know what Im talking about. I love Dickey but he never should have come out of retirement. It was avery sad display.

We had seen Dickey Betts several years ago before his self-announced "retirement" and he was already over the hill but thought he had cleaned up his act and dedicated himself to playing well again. Unfortunately, fooled again, one of the worst concerts we ever attended, just a big "cash grab" by someone who couldn't even get in shape and dedicate himself to touring as a professional. The only redeeming factor to the show was Devon Allman, a nice guy and excellent guitarist and singer. He opened the show with a half-hour set that was perfect. Marshall Tucker was just OK, good guitars but terrible lead singer whose sole job appeared to be playing the tambourine. It took 50 minutes from the end of their set until Dickey Betts came out, the stage crew, seemingly in the dozens, evidently couldn't get the Hammond organ to work, by then it was almost 10:30 p.m. Mercifully, Dickey "only" played for about an hour, appeared intoxicated, with a bottle of Budweiser behind him, staggered and couldn't speak straight, could barely play the guitar, a beat or two behind everyone else on almost every song. Duane Betts has never been more than serviceable but looked like Duane Allman compared to Dickey. Droves of concertgoers left during his set, which didn't even include Ramblin' Man. Note to Duane: send Dickey a fax, it's all over, you're done; never again.

The Devon Allman project is basically an Allmand Brothers cover band. The Marshall Tucker band is still great albiet the only original member's voice has seen better days. Dickey Betts did not seem as fluid on the guitar as when he was with the Allman Brother's and his energy level was quite low. With that said, he's still a great guitarist and I always thought the Allman Brothers were not quite as good without him. Highlite of the show was Jessica, but there was no encore

Left the show at 10:50 to get home and Betts wasn t even on stage yet. Roadies we re doing something with the keyboard- who cares Betts doesn t even play keyboard. Beacon employee told me show was supposed to end at 12. So assuming he got on by 11- the show was only going to be an hour. Marshall Tucker was the middle act and he doesn t even lead sing his songs anymore. I thought it was one of the worst concerts I ve been to.

I saw Dickey many times when he was at the height of his power, and that power was considerable. I seen him several times since 2010 as well. This time, in all honesty, it just left me sad. The same sort of sad that I felt the last time I saw Chuck Berry.... who at that point, couldn't tune his own guitar. It wasn't even good from a nostalgic perspective. I'm sorry that I went. I don't want to remember Dickey this way.

It was a good experience and I would recommend it but with caveats. I think you would have to accept it as a sort of "farewell" show to a ;layer that has been very important to the guitar and rock music in general. Practically one of the inventors of heroic guitar soloing and a master of tone, touch and phrasing. He is also one of the great composers in the rock music genre. That said the last few years since he last toured appear to have put some age on him and he did lack the stamina he used to show which resulted in issues with timing and off notes through the show. He appeared to tire early on and at times it seemed that his son Duane had to help him with some arrangements. Duane himself has really come into his own as a player and a band leader and it felt like he really made the show happen as a tribute to his father. It was great that the Beacon sold out and I think most everyone there wanted to show their appreciation for all the great music and the importance of his body of work.

The show was extremely disappointing. Dickey seemed ill, and we hope he is ok. The band did NOT play Ramblin' Man or In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, which they did play in recent shows. The Marshall Tucker Band was also disappointing, but we enjoyed seeing Devon Allman and his band, although they only played three songs. I wish we had skipped this show.

Although I wish that The Devon Allman Project had played a full set, and while Marshall Tucker was good I could have done without it, it was all worth it to see Dickey again! He was strong and inspired and it was fantastic to see him playing with Duane. Best song of the night was Midnight Rider with Devon on lead vocal. All in all, another magical evening at the Beacon!

With Dickey singing Blue Sky, Devon coming out to sing Midnight Rider, and Duane playing alongside his dad on the goldie, it was a historic night of wall to wall music. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. If you get the chance to see Dickey, Duane and/or Devon, GO! Their bands are really great with Pedro Alvarez on bass for Dickey, and Devon & Duane's bands featuring Johnny Stachela, Jackson Stokes, and many more. When Jaimoe came on stage and played with Dickey, as the last 2 remaining original Allman Brothers, it was the cherry on top. Bonnie and Bekka Bramlett also provided back up. A truly great show!

Why must everyone stand throughout the whole show? The folks in front stand and it's a terribly cascading waste of tickets.I thought I wanted to see Dickey Betts do Ramblin'Man.I saw Don McLean do American Pie and Brian Wilson do God Only Knows. So I thought almost any amount of money to see an icon sing a classic tune.Reuniting with Jaimoe (for 1 song) and adding the Bramletts was nice and all but Dickey just can't do it anymore. His son blew him off the stage.Everybody gets older but know your limitations man. Some of the ABB's intricate fretwork is best left to the younger (and more sober) guitarists. And get off my lawn.

I have too much respect and love in my heart for Dickey to see and hear what Father Time has done to his talent. The band seemed to be playing to him instead of with him. Dickey Betts never fails to amaze. Truly one of the most gifted players in Rock N' Roll history! No one else but Jerry Garcia has had this ability to bring such melodic beauty to a song AND then explore and extrapolate every nuance available. Time just flies when he's playing. He's really worked Great Southern into a well oiled machine. You can tell that Dickey really cares about every aspect of the sound. And his guitar tone is simply the sweetest and clearest on the planet. The Allman's lost it all when he left. He can make you dance!

Dickey Betts and Great Southern embody the essence of the Allman Brothers sound. The long jam sessions, the rolling open atmospheric sound that is unique to the Allman Brothers and also to some extent the Grateful Dead. First time to Bethel Woods and must say the indoor venue is perfect. The show was intimate...we got second row seats in the last minute. There is room to dance in the back so as not to bother anyone and still feel close. Dickey Betts never disappoints...best tunes and Great Southern is tight. So much fun. He's still got it. Awesome show and backing band. Dickey played for 2 1/2 hours lots of good time ABB hits and a few GS classics. High Falls, Franklin's Jam/Blue Sky, Back where it all begins, Liz Reed, One Way Out, Nobody left to run with, etc. The man is fluid music, great jamming. The reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was that the show was brutally overamplified. I've been to lots of rock concerts, I like it loud, but this was easily twice, three times louder than it needed to be. The bass and drums were turned up so loud it was hard to hear the guitars. Thanks for delivering the goods, but can you do it lower next time?

What a joy for us ole Allman Bros fans...of which there were many at The Concert Hall on Friday, sporting them back in the day t-shirts while boogieing in the aisles, at their seats, wherever. Dickey's playing is as passionate and creative as ever and, in some ways, Great Southern is a better band than the Allmans...e.g., the 2 drummers do more creative stuff. I realize that Dickey has not gotten his due. The idiom of Southern rock, as well as commercial country (particularly circa the 80s), owe a debt to his guitar style. Rock on!

Dickey is a legend but has admittedly has had a shaky reputation the last several years. I love his music and his set list cannot be beat but he has been a bit unsteady in the past. However, this concert showed him at his best. His solos were crisp and lively. His face was knotted in concentration as he showed he clearly was into the moment. "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" took its rightful place as the penultimate song the band was tight and inspired. However, with both the opening act and the headliner, the mix of guitars was awful! The drums and bass were loud and pounding but most of the guitar work was far in the back; some solos by the slide guitarist in Great Southern were almost inaudible. It was not just my opinion; fans in the crowd were yelling, "Turn up the guitars!" more than once. I assume the performers were unaware of the mixing issue because they replied, "Yeah!" as if he audience was just rooting for them to keep playing. Someone on the staff of the State Theater was not doing their job because the poor mix was quite obvious and no adjustment was made throughout the night.

I had seats in what I thought would be a perfect spot, row N dead center on the floor. The only thing we could hear (and I asked people around me, so it wasn't just me) was Dickey's vocals and guitar. We couldn't hear the keyboards, we couldn't hear the other two guitarists...the sound guy should be fired. The guy next to me said it was the same way for the opener. As for Dickey himself, I'm a huge fan and think he made the Allmans, and that the Allmans aren't even in the same leauge without him...but I think it's time for him to hang it up. The last 3 or 4 times I've seen him he hasn't been anything like his old self. I hate to say it because I love him and he's one of my favorite musicians of all time, but I think it's time.

Dickey Betts and Great Southern were a complete embarassment. I've been a huge Betts fan since the inception of the Allman Brothers Band, saw a great original Great Southern band show, and saw a great Betts show a few years ago at the Stone Pony. But this show was sloppy, uninspired, and an indication that Dickey, sadly, should put his touring days behind him. Aside from the poor performance, the sound mix was extremely poor, as opposed to the mix for The Outlaws, which bordered on perfect.

I originally bought these tickets thinking that The Outlaws were the headlining act only to be confused right up until show time that they were the opening act, The Outlaws rocked albeit an abbreviated set list , Henry Paul looked pissed off at times which makes me think that Betts whined about being the opener until he finally was given the headline. Dickey looked old and seemed to struggle with some of his licks , Great Southern were off key a few times and almost seemed lost at times, Dickey Betts son looked angry the whole show. Our seats were in the second row on the right side of the stage and we had to deal with about 7 drunks that were dancing in front of us and being a general nuisance.

Dickie Betts and the band came out I was hoping The show would at least be decent. I was even thinking I could possibly leave early to beat the rush out the door... From the first note on his guitar to the last, I was totally impressed! Took me back in time to the Allman Brothers show that I saw many years ago with a traditional guitar sound.. They played an hour and a half and wow can he still jam! I loved every second of it! I cannot believe he is 70 years old! The band is awesome as well.. Would see them again anytime! Jessica, one of the best instrumentals was the highlight of the show for me...

really disappointed in the show. dickey really is not a front man. he does not interact with the audience. he actually plays with his head down the entire time and doesnt really say a word - didnt even introduce the band. go see derek trucks or warren haynes instead

Outlaws opened for Dickey Betts and Great Southern. The Outlaws were great. Sweet vocals and hot guitars, quite good. Lots of great old Outlaw songs. Then Dickey and his band came on with a mix of Allman Brothers and Great Southern tunes. His band is very good and he can still play. A very very enjoyable evening.

Dickey Betts puts on a show of all shows. If you're an Allman Brother's fan he totally delivers 200% If you aren't you'll still love Dickey and his amazing band. It was the second time I saw this show and I would see it again and again. His almost 12 minute version of Jessica is worth the price of the ticket. He plays for 2 1/2 hours and the time flew by.

Sound was lousy. Vocals were so low on all the singers that you couldn't hear the vocals.

the musicians were very good, they began a bit tentatively but quickly got their balance. Dickey Betts plays his own unique lead, just like he always has. the keyboard player was absolutely amazing, making it look effortless as his fingers flew over the keyboard. it seemed in the second set the volume was higher,a bit too high perhaps. vocals were lacking

Dickey seemed in very good form. Sang well and played some very nice leads. He did seem to get "stuck" on a couple where he just kept doing the same long bend on a string over and over and couldn't figure out how to move on. He played all his classics very nicely. Was very pleased from that standpoint. I wish he would have interacted with the crowd a little more, but maybe it wouldn't have mattered given the next point. There was a problem with the sound system. Either the Carolina Theater has a horrible sound system or the band was playing way too loud. It made my had vibrate and it was very difficult to hear the vocals. Sometimes when the keyboardist was singing or playing a lead I didn't even realize he was doing that. The other band members seemed very solid. Except that is for Betts' son. He seems like he can play pretty well, but he is not on par with the rest of the people in this band. I understand that Betts wants to tour with his son, but he really seemed out of place. He mostly stood behind the third guitar player waiting for his turns at lead. His leads were fine but very one dimensional. He seemed to just continuously do long string bends. The result of his playing left less to do for the third guitar player who really seemed like a professional musician but was not being used properly. The son should have his own band. Or he should just come out for one or two songs. Despite the problems I still enjoyed the concert very much which tells me that Betts still can put on a pretty good show and clearly has written some of the best songs in the history of rock music. One other point - the crowd was not very big, which was good because we could move around a lot. We did this to try and see if the sound was any better in other places. It wasn't. The Allman Brothers were in town this night also. We are speculating that that is the reason for the low turnout for Betts. And, it would have been nice for Betts to say something about that coincidence. A joke perhaps.

2hr15min show. Played everything. (except Revival) Great show. Hope it didn't have anything to do with the fact that the Allman Brothers we're across town at Walnut Creek that same night.

I, over the years have been to many concerts. This was by far the worst I ever attended. I had seen Dickey Betts many times with The Allman Bros, and he was a excellent guitar player. He is not nearly as gtood as he used to be and his band, although had some good musians, had no tightness at all. It was also the shortest concert I can remember. It started on time, promtly at 8:00 and end at 9:08

Here's the story, Dickey is still incredible , that's the good news. Seeing this show made me remember how much this man shaped the sound of the Allman Brothers. Now for the bad. PA system was grossly inadequate for the venue adding to the issue of weak vocals. Sound levels were awful during the first set but corrected during the intermission. Dickey was obviously upset by technical issues including pedal failure.

Well, I was quite surprised and happy to say that the concert was highly enjoyable. I wasn't sure what to expect from reading some of the reviews past and present. The band Great Southern was extremely talented and put on a terrific show. As for Dickey Betts he was amazing. His voice is definatley not what it used to be but that is understandable, considering many factors. it must have been a good night for him because he was fantastic with the guitar. The interaction on guitar with his son Duane and Andy was awesome. I would highly recommend going to see them and I would also go see them again. Bass player Pedro is fantastic.

The Carolina theater has fantastic acoustics . They were not considered by sound guys for this show and they blew me out. It was fun hearing the classics while I could take it and betts was awesum but too loud . A wall of marshals did not need amped up through PA for this room. Disappointed to have to bail .

Though there were moments here and there, the passage of time is telling. The sound was awful and the band had to carefully watch Dickey to see where he was going. Left after 1st set, nuff said.

The show was amazing. Dickey Betts still has the chops at almost 70! And his son, Duane, a slide guitarist and bass player were all fantastic too as well as the two drummers. The only complaint was the sound system at Carolina Theater. The vocals were so muddled that we could hear almost none of the words to the songs. Highly recommend the show. No disappointed fans in the house.
