What an amazing performance. I loved every second of it. I would describe it as figure skating and gymnastics meets ballet. They were athletic and graceful, the choreography was spectacular and the pianist and the music was amazing too. I couldn't have asked for more. I brought my husband who isn't crazy about ballet and he really enjoyed it too. AND he said he'd go back. I told some friends about it and they want me to let them know when they will be back (in January) so they can get tickets too.

I enjoyed the performance, the dancers were amazing and the strength and talent they demonstrated was great. The live music, with the piano player was a nice and different touch. I would see this dance company again!

This was more modern dance than ballet. The dancers were very good, but it wasn't that much ballet.

The performers were great. I enjoyed the show aspect immensely. The only drawback were the individuals behold us talking continuously and kicking the chair. I told them to stop both but they didn't care.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet hit all the marks in one unforgettable evening of dance. From an emotional piece by Cerrudo to the thought provoking piece by Melo and finally to the humorous & energetic closing number by Soto. Once in a lifetime! The only problem with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet... they only played one night in Los Angeles. Based on the reaction of the audience that night, hopefully Valley Performing Arts Center will consider an additional night as part of its residency with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.

Hard to say 'great' since the title of Ballet was an expectation of music and story. Aspen Santa Fe is avant guarde dance. Music is taped and odd, to which no story line is generated and the dancers pose or move but not ballet in style, more controlled pose. Rerun was just odd - the second piece - where dancers (no dancing in this segment, they walked and fell to the floor) were doing the same activity over and over again (gee titled rerun). Music was atonal odd sounds, lighting to accompany the movement. Possibly you sit there bored enough to sort out a reverse sequence or not - I found it too dull to watch. So - had this been titled dance movement I would not have paid to go - and had this been ballet I would have been happier. As it is, I found the concept not to my liking.

This contemporary ballet company is at once powerful and graceful as they negotiate dynamic and breathtaking choreography. I saw a review from the NY Times that really says it best: "They raise the bar, and then they jump over it!" I agree!

The Ballet by the Aspen Santa Fe Dancers seemed to be effortless. The movements came across as natural to them. Their professionalism was apparent and enjoyable. The beautiful live music enhanced the experience, as well. Overall created very nicely. Glad the company is sharing their skillful elegance on tour for us to see.

This is a superb company. Beautifully trained as classical dancers, with the full capacity to do thrilling contemporary choreography. Accessible and so inspiring for young dance students. I hope they will come regularly to Los Angeles.

Superb dancers, creative choreography, well rehearsed. Three diverse pieces demonstrating contemporary ballet at its finest. This is a company to look forward to, and to regret missing. One of the finest performances on multiple levels I've seen in years.

I am so glad to have seen this ballet company here in the Twin Cities. I've seen it in Chicago and know of it's reviews in the New York Times when they have performed there. It was a lovely evening, the State theater was very nice and the connection made prior to the dance starting about the Northrup's progress was helpful. Thanks for putting on a great event.

The strength and beauty of the dancers was absolutely amazing. The choreography of each of the three pieces was outstanding. All of the dancers were very well matched in their abilities which made the performance seamless and breathtaking to watch. I can't wait to see them perform again.

Amazing performance, even with some glitches in the sound system/recorded tracks. Truly athletic ballet, modern interpretations. Loved it!

ASFB presented three pieces by three different choreographers: Cayetano Soto's "Uneven," Nicolo Fonte's "Where We Left Off," and Jorma Elo's "Red Sweet." The program showed off the daring physicality of the dancers. Ballet does not require tutus anymore. Contemporary ballet, as presented by ASFB, requires such high levels of athleticism nowadays that the dancers could go toe-to-toe with many top athletes in the sports world. I found the first piece, "Uneven," to be an exercise in pushing the limits of partnering. Each couple gymnastically utilized each other's bodies to full effect. I liked the white marley floor being placed at an angle and lifted up upstage left. That was very dramatic. And the cellist playing live served to propel the dance. I like when dancers and musicians are creating art in the same space and time. I enjoyed the Philip Glass piano music for the second piece, "Where We Left Off." It felt sweeping, contemporary, and emotional. This dance had its share of beautiful partnering, but also interesting individual movements for the dancers, alone and together in an ensemble. The last one was my favorite, "Red Sweet." It felt light and quirky to me. I liked the costuming of the first piece the best. The men were in short shorts, and the ladies were in leotards. It helped to see their leg musculature moving. In the next two pieces, the ladies were in short unitards, if I remember correctly, but the men were in straight-legged "jazz" pants. I didn't like the look of those. They were bland. Even though the choreography was so exciting and seemed to be the real stars of the evening, I think they could have done more with costuming. All in all, it was a fantastic evening of dance, and I am very glad that the house was sold out!

Music was excruciating. Dancing was uninspired and zombie like.

This troupe of 10 dancers put on a wonderful show. They danced to a wide variety of pieces in a number of styles. Not constrained by the technique and standard moves of classic ballet this group surprised and astounded with their flexibility, imagination and discipline. I am a fan of ballet and often go to see a particular piece no matter the troupe that performs. It is rare that I would see a specific ensemble. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet ranks for me with the Alvin Ailey Company as the two fitting in that category.

Overall, watching ASFB is like watching water cascading down a creek - fluid, flowing, effortless. Dancers glide across the stage with a flexibility that is breath-taking and downright amazing. The classical ballet training is there, but is given a refreshingly modern twist. Bravo, ASFB! Can't wait until they come to town again!

Creative, innovative. In a great way!! Flawlessly performed. The last number, done under black lights, was unforgetable. The talent and perfection of this concept was almost unbelievable. Thank you for bringing this to us! This was a program enjoyed by people of all ages.

this ballet presentation was fine but without live music it falls short of a good review. this group needs to find a way to present the ballet or dance with live music.
