The Sounds

THE SOUNDS IN CONCERT:Swedish new wave revivalists The Sounds blend anthemic guitar hooks and period-perfect synth lines to stunning effect, injecting their modern indie dance rock with just the right amount of '80s nostalgia. Frontwoman Maja Ivarsson may look like she's ready for the runway, but come showtime she means business, leading fans through pogo-inducing renditions of the band's most adrenalin-filled tracks. Hot off the heels of the late-2013 release of Weekend, The Sounds have fans eagerly awaiting their 2014 North American tour dates with Blondfire.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Formed in Sweden in 1998, The Sound made their full-length debut in 2002 with Living in America, becoming an overnight sensation in their home country and landing on the radar of critics in the US and UK.

The sounds are such an amazing band to see live. They sound great and Maja always puts on a great show. She loves to interact with the fans. The opening acts, My Jerusalem and Zipper Club were great as well. The venue was The Masquerade (hell). I really was not impressed with that location to tell you the truth. In Atlanta there are 4 different Masquerade locations. Got kind of tricky since I was out of town. The overall neighborhood it was held in wasn't very welcoming either. I hope next time they come through they will play in Charlotte. There's plenty of great venues there. Overall I was super pumped about the show. I got front a front row spot though.

I really enjoyed that rainy night in San Francisco with The Sounds. It was my first time to see them live after a million times that they have been here in the Bay Area. It was a marathon with 4 acts in the concert billing. The Kids in the Bar- a duo DJ combo was so cool as the opener and in-between set relief act. There was a brief technical problem before the main band at around 11 p.m., but people have been boozed-up to care less. The Limousines was awesome, a price worth paying for in itself. They sang a great version of Paul Simon's "Call Me, Al." The third act- The Funeral Party could have been better. The concert was truly a success- it was also Félix Rodríguez's birthday. The band and friends joined together in stage to toast and to sing "Happy Birthday." We were lucky to be part of the impromptu celebration.

Waited out side for 4 hours in the cold rain just to get a spot along the barricade. The wait was well worth it. Shook Eric's hand from Limousines, made eye contact with Maya and shook her hand as well. Great seats, great show,

Wow, she can really rock some socks! I felt like I was watching Blondie! She brought it back to the old school type of rock, cigarette's and little shorts...I must know who her personal trainer is, bc her legs were smokin' hot! They were very entertaining live and my friend and I had a total blast!

the sounds were really good. it was kind of confusing because they had an opening band who seemed appropriate but while it appeared that there were two other bands for a total of four, the first of the four was actually two djs who came on in between every band and at the start. So it was three bands and a dj group. there were some radically different things going on in the crowd. it was very volatile. Good triumphed over evil in the end, but the crowd at the start was not the crowd for the sounds. I don't know what they were there for, but they lost.

The Sounds taking the stage was the absolute best part of the show. They did not disappoint by starting off with some of their best hits before laying into some new material from their recent album. They performed 3 encores for the excited crowd and gave us our money's worth. The highlight of the night for me came when they slowed down the tempo and played a terrific rendition of "Night After Night." Brilliant show.

This concert was AMAZING. I originally only bought tickets to see Natalia Kills (the opening act) but once I started listen to The Sounds music, I fell in love. Kids At The Bar started off the night for DJing for AN HOUR AND A HALF. Natalia Kills went on next and she was absolutely incredible! She did eight songs and the crowd really enjoyed her. Kids At The Bar came back on stage for a half hour and no one payed any attention. Around 9:30 The Sounds went on stage and played 16 songs. When Maja finished performing "Night After Night", she came up to me and signed my album! This had to be one of the best concerts I've ever been to!

This was a long awaited concert for me and I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!!! This was probably the best concert i have ever been to. The Sounds rocked it hard. They were authentic, powerful, and passionate...true rock stars. I'm in love with them! The Limousines were also amazing and explosive. I'm a new fan! Natalia Kills was aggressively pop which was fun. And The Kids at the Bar held it all together...not always an easy job, but they did it effortlessly. The best was when you saw how much fun they were having...they enhanced my experience for sure. LOVED IT ALL...CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM AGAIN!

I was blown away by Maja's performance & the rest of the band! Really amazing & an all around kick-ass show! They sounded fanominal live. Maja has such great stage presents, if Jagger, Jett, & Blondie had a love child, you would get Maja. She got up close to the audience, invited fans on stage, panty flashed the crowd, & stage dived! I can't wait for them to come back around on tour again.

Royale is my new favorite place to see a concert. The venue is small enough that there's no bad place to be. The two opening acts, Kids at the Bar and Natalia Kills, were excellent! The Sounds were amazing live! I think they sound better live than recorded (which is not always the case!). They covered most of their big hits across all 4 albums. I highly recommend seeing them if you're able. They put on a great, high-energy show that will be remembered for a long time!

Wow! Ok so I went to the show not knowing who the opening acts were and I was a little hesitant to even stay for them. But then Foxy Shazam gor on stage and all I could do was move my feet along to the music cuz boy did they whip me into a frenzy! And the Semi Precious Weapons came on and they were just as great! There were crazy outfits, not to mention a wardrobe change mid-set by the lead singer. Both bands had me wishing I knew the words so I could sing along! Then The Sounds came on and I was amazed! I heard they were good but I had no idea they would be this good! Mija belted out all the songs w such emotion, Jesper mashed on the keys and Felix was kicking out the jams. You could tell they all loved their jobs!

The band rocks and doing it all on Halloween night was amazing. We had a terrific time and would love the sounds to play every Halloween in Denver. My wife and I have been discussing the inevitable Arcade Fire tour. It's coming. And I want to see it! They are performing this weekend as their altar ego's The Reflektors. On one hand these cats from Montreal might be the most important band working today. After the commercial and critical success of The Suburbs, there is high anticipation, and expectation for the new material. And when they do hit the road they will more than likely sell out arenas around the globe. Expect the entire arena to be packed too, not just the lower bill. Nine Inch Nails and The Killers are the mast few acts that passed through the mammoth Prudential Center. Tarps covered much of the venue. They demand a big stage. After all, there are like 30 band members. Arcade Fire are willing to bring theatre and performance art too. Their Roman Coppola directed short, "Here Comes the Night Time", is the freshest and most innovative music promotion in recent memory. A network tv special/concert film? Smart. And effective! Oh, and the new songs are pretty friggin good. I know what you are thinking? Am I supposed to be reading a recap of the Swedish pop band The Sounds? Well, yeah. But it goes back to what my wife and I discuss. She will not entertain seeing Arcade Fire because they don't "look" like rock and roll. That's the second hand if you are scoring at home. That isn't to say they are ugly- or maybe it is. I am not saying that! Someone I know is :-) Let's be honest. The look of a show is super important. Which is why, Monday night in Brooklyn, things took an unfortunate turn. Maja Ivarsson, lead singer for The Sounds, was not in top form. In November, 2011 I was highly entertained as she dominated a packed Webster Hall with her high energy and good grooves. It did not hurt that Ivarsson was heavy on bravado (chain smoking/short skirt wearing/supremely confident.) She had the moves and swagger like a 70s punk goddess- somewhere between Blondie and Joan Jett, with a dash of Abba. I was a little smitten. The last record was pretty special too. And the NYC show was on the tail end of a long, long tour. Monday Ivarsson looked several years older than her age, 34. Making the new record... or the cigarettes... or simply the everyday toll of life as a musician... have caught up to her. She was quick to mention the band was celebrating "15 years as an fu**ing band." Impressive. From age 19 she and her mates have been living the dream. The short skirt was replaced with an odd jump suit and her hair was poorly kept. She looked very different indeed. For a Monday night show the crowd was 1) large and 2) ready to rock. We arrived right before they hit the stage and there was a buzz. They opened with "No One Sleeps When I'm Awake" and everything seemed promising. She sounded better than average and that song choice was fun. If anything, they were mic'd too loud and not all on the same page. No sweat, it was the first song, first set of shows, etc. They were shaking off the rust. A few songs later when Ivarsson totally forgot several verses and the band abruptly ended "Something to Die For", their most successful track from their last record, it all went downhill. I couldn't fully engage with the new material, which has some winners. Notably, the first single, "Shake, Shake, Shake" and "The Weekend" are both groovy tunes. It was the dropped verse that sent my ears packing. Then my eyes started to wonder. Is Ivarsson ill? Is she getting along with these guys? 15 years is a long time to be together? Can you name 10 other bands who play today with their original lineup that long? It is not many, trust me. They weren't looking at each other on stage. The chemistry was messy. At least that is what I saw... and I was not alone. My posse felt the same way- and there were four of them. Even a drunk or two that poured out were heard muttering "Too bad about The Sounds tonight. They sucked." Maybe not that bad. And you can't trust every drunken hipster you hear. Something was missing though. I understand it is shallow and superficial to want to see a band for its leading lady. Madonna did not get to where she is because of her voice. Adele she is not. Looks are part of the show. When you fail to remember your own lyrics and struggle through a set you should be expect to be judged harshly. It happens. Try harder to make sure it does not happen again. And I will try not to be such an ugly American. The truth is a nasty thing.

The Sounds are amazing period. I have seen them numerous times and they always give 110% to the crowd. Loved where it was at The Ogden. Great venue. Chill security. Parking around here SUCKS becareful. Anyways the show was amazing it was fun because most people dressed up and everyone looked crazy! I didnt see any of the opening bands it took like 30min just to find parking. Love the sounds! Best halloween ever! All the members had great costumes! I would recommend anyone to watch one of their shows, its so much fun.

This was truly unforgettable, and one of THE BEST concerts I have been to. This is a very bold statement since I work at an arena myself, and have been to an endless list of shows. I am a fairly new fan (around 2 years), and was absolutely blown away! The sound was amazing. Maja and the rest of the band sound even better than on their albums. High energy, bumping music, entertaining opening acts. BRILLIANT! FAR WORTH THE MONEY! This honestly was one of the best nights of my life.

I really LOVE the Sounds, and their mix was really good live. Good use of lighting, etc. But their choice of songs was just so disappointing! I even left early! I guess I just have a different idea of what is good from the Sounds (e.g. NOT Crossing the Rubicon). Songs like "Dance with Me" and "Much Too Long" and "24 Hours" and "Tony the Beat" are some of my mostest favoritest songs in the whole world, and I went to go see the Sounds live because I assumed that they would play these songs and it would be amazing. But they really focused on their more slow, lifeless, non-danceable songs. Bummer. The crowd in Seattle was really supportive and amazing as Seattle crowds typically are. But the Sounds totally let me down live. I guess they are going in a softer direction, so if you think Crossing the Rubicon is the best Sounds album ever, then you'll probably really enjoy their live show. For me, I relish in the good old glory days of the Dying to Say This to You era Sounds, and thus, the show was a let down.

I've always enjoyed shows at the Showbox at the Market and this show was no exception. It is one of the greatest places for a concert I've ever been to; the bars are placed well to give a good view of the stage and there's plenty of floor space for people to crowd in and rock out. I've never had an issue with the acoustics, but then I've always been up front against a speaker, so I may not be the best judge of that. The first opening act was Foxy Shazam and they blew me away. They were the best live performance I've seen from a band, hands down. Every single member was full of energy and had a chaotic stage presence that fit the band's musical style perfectly. They're worth seeing, even if you aren't a fan of their music. The following act was Semi-Precious Weapons and they definitely were a solid, hard rocking band. They were also all full of energy and did a great job of keeping the crowd's energy level up. It's easy to lose track of the band because the lead singer is definitely an attention-grabber, but, if you get a chance to see them, give some time to the other guys, as they are definitely fun to watch as well. Finally, on came the Sounds to a frenzied audience. After the high-energy open acts, the Sounds provided an interest dynamic of subtle energy. They weren't as overt as the previous acts, which both went balls to the wall on the stage; instead, the Sounds gave a powerful performance without hitting you over the head with it. The show had great flow to it, starting off with some rocking tunes, gradually slowing it down before bringing it up for the climax. I love their music, so, of course, I loved their show. My only criticism might be that the lead singer is the only one really worth watching during the show; the other guys are certainly rocking out, but unless your watching the drummer to just how exactly he does that fill or you're mesmerized by a guitarists finger-work, there's really not much to see. Maja, on the other hand, walks around the stage like she owns it (which she does). She was far more allowing of pointing the mic at the crowd than any other singer I've ever seen; at one point, she actually gave the mic to a girl in front to sing part of a song. Further along that point, maybe a little over half-way through the show, the band picked an audience member to play cowbell on-stage which can always be a dangerous prospect. They definitely made a good choice, though, as the woman they picked definitely worked with the lead singer's on-stage energy whereas most other people would probably have just stood there stock still. Picking a person with stage presence at random is a ballsy move and is really a great way of summarizing the show. If you have the opportunity, definitely a show worth catching.

Maja has so much energy and passion when she rocks out, everyone was dancing and jumping. I've never been so spirited during a show! They're great!!! and their opener "semi precious weapons" were fabulous!

All the bands were great! The Sounds played a great show and the crowd was electric. Everyone new the lyrics to the most of the The Sounds songs. Maya and the rest of The Sounds really know how to entertain. If anyone is looking for new music to listen to, The Sounds are it! Foxy Brown and Shiny Toy Weapons also played really good sets. They are two very interesting in your face bands. I loved Foxy Browns attitude!

This show was "awesome!" The venue was well thought out with Foxy Shazam, then Shiny Toy Guns got the crowd going, then The Sounds took the stage....The place went insane! Sweat dripping from the crowd, the celing dripping, loud rock music...who can ask for anything more!

saw the sounds 3 times before and they once again rocked it! The warfield crowd really made some noise and danced to the music. The performance was better than any other tour I have seen from them. Kudos to the opening bands as well.

One of the highest energy concerts I've ever seen. Each band really seemed to put everything they had into it. The sound was great as were The Sounds. But I mainly wanted to see Shiny Toy Guns, and they were just outstanding. Absolutely terrific. I kind of wish they were headlining so they'd have a longer set, but I gotta give it up to The Sounds too. I was more curious about them than anything, but they just really delivered and put on a really great show! Both bands seemed to have a great time and really laid it on the line. Eleven on a scale of ten!

The Sounds are amazing live. I was in the second row in the floor and it was awesome to see them live for the second time. I will definitely see them again when they make another stop in San Francisco. I will recommend going with a friend as the people on the floor tend to push A LOT, and this way you have someone helping you push the stupid people back in their spot. The Sounds do not disappoint. They are fantastic:)

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! The most fun I have had at a show in my entire life, hands down. Ive seen Muse, The Killers, The Hives, MSTRKRFT, Blink 182, Bloc Party, Weezer...some great shows. But this just topped all of them by far and away. Every band that played was phenomenal. Just so high energy, so much fun, its hard to put into words. Just a great show! Cheers to those three bands. If you get an opportunity to see any of them, do it. I promise youll have the greatest time of your life at a concert.
