Nanci was at her usual best and the Kennedys were such a welcome addition to the show. I missed the Blue Moon Orchestra but Mike on drums helped ease the pain. Great show!

Wonderful show. Nancy Griffith was so personable and her love of the music showed through the whole show. Her performance of Love at the Five and Dime was so heartfelt and poignant you felt it to your soul. I would go again to see her anytime. She talked to the audience like we were friends. That made the show warm & wonderful.

The Atlanta Botanical Gardens was the perfect place to see Nanci Griffith perform! We got to enjoy a beautiful evening and listen to some of our long time favorite tunes as well as newer songs from Nanci's album. We were delighted in the fact that Nanci gave a little personal insight or quick (and often funny) story about most of the songs. Her sweet , folksy voice and amazing ability to really connect with her audience made for a night not to be forgotten any time too soon.

Love her, fabulous artist. Never seen her before; always wanted to see her live. Show was subdued and a little maudlin. Political bull comes with admission price I guess. Seems artists and entertainers want to be politicians and politicians want to be entertainers. Like Mighty Merle says"Now I don't mind 'em swithchin' sides and standing up for things they believe in". Ok by me.

I've seen Nanci Griffith at least 10 times over the years, and usually she's great, but her concert at the Atlanta Botanical Garden was a real disappointment. Her voice cracked and was not strong, and her anecdotes, lyrics, and audience chatter have not matured to be relevant in current times beyond sentimental value. Her back-up band was mediocre at best, and the duet she did with one band member was hard on the ears. The audience begged for certain songs and she gave lame replies that either her band didn't know them, or she was not allowed to play them - we paid a lot for the tickets and deserved a better explanation. Great venue however!

This was such a great opportunity to see one of my favorite singer/songwriters ever talk about her songs, her process, and her writers block during the Bush Administration! Her new record doesn't disappoint and was well worth the wait. It was an intimate setting and Nanci was very candid and funny. It is no wonder that Nanci Griffith writes such heartfelt and inspiring music.

Nanci and the Kennedys worked magic together. There were old musical gems combined with new songs from Nanci's latest masterpiece Intersection. Nanci's voice and spirits were in great form. I have seen Nanci at least 20 times and this was one of her best performances. Her songs and stories were top notch. She is not only a marvelous singer-songwriter but one of the world's greatest raconteurs.

I love Nanci Griffith. Her performance May 1, 2012 at the Birchmere, however, was a disappointment. There was a sound problem that resulted in the acoustic guitars overpowering the vocals. So, while Nanci's voice is still amazing, it was hard to hear vocals over the guitars. The Kennedys played with her and they and Nanci were often out of synch, as though they hadn't practiced. The guy who opened was awful - an old friend of Nanci's who talked endlessly but did little music. So I rate the concert poor - not well produced, musicians not well-rehearsed.

For such as successful artist as Nanci to allow a performance as poor as this either indicates disinterest, in it only for the money, or too ill to perform. Together with her musicians other than the percussionist who gave it his all - they came accross as unrehearsed, insensitive to the material and overbearing. Together it was so bad my wife and my friends had to abandon ship before the first set was even completed. In short Nanci's voice has dropped to a lower register and her songs needed to be re-keyed or re-arranged to fit the lower tones. The back up guitars and sometime bass were so loud and thrashing that I felt I was listing to a high school talent show. We felt bad for the percussionist who tried his best to play with sensitivity and good timing. All for naught as the others simply trashed the rythmn, sonic dynamics and the singers song. What is more periodically they would sing out of tune. As for Eric Taylor - none of us had heard of him prior and albeit he might be a poet/sonic impressionist - his songs all operated at a slow as molasses dirg that were somewhat interesting but not arresting. When Nanci came out to harmonize it was even worse as far as being rehearsed and musical - in short amature again. I have loved Nanci's music for years and am dismayed to write such a critique but she knows better. We traved quite a distance and paid a pretty penny for a piss poor concert.

Like other shows, opening act much too long---20 minutes should be max, and this one was very poor--though it would never end. This is 5th time I;ve seen her and will be the last if there's another opening act planned. Main act was better but suffered from too many dreary songs--needed some Lone Star State of Mind, and Do Re Mi, etc. mixed in.

Nancy Griffith's concert last Tuesday night was wonderful. The audience was warmed up with a first set performed by the Kennedys. Their subtle harmonies and interweaving guitars were a real treat. Their sense of humanity was present in the songs. Nancy came out after a short intermission to a crowd that obviously loved her and was waiting anxiously. She performed many of her old hits, including "From a Distance" and "It's a Hard Life" as well as newer material including "The Loving Kind". The stories that accompanied the songs were endearing and entertaining and her humor made the evening a very enjoyable event. Her singing was as strong and nuanced as ever, showcasing her mastery of a wide range of emotions, from tender to forceful. She was casual and relaxed and made us in the audience feel like we were in her living room, listening to an old friend. A strong sense of caring for others and awareness of social justice pervaded many of her songs. The evening ended with a standing ovation and Nancy graciously offered "Carolina". I left with a feeling of having been transformed, inspired and a sense of thankfulness for so much beautful music, that night and over the years from Nancy Griffith.

I had never seen Nanci in concert before, but I new she would probably deliver a solid performance and I was not disappointed. The Kennedy's were a great opening act and a wonderful backup duo to Nanci. She was especially good at relating to her audience with a lot of story telling and background for each number. My only complaint was the lack of cooling or ventilation in the Aladdin Theater. It was not that warm of an evening and still the place became uncomfortably stuffy. Otherwise it was a memorable evening with one of country folk's grand dames.

Nanci Griffith was wonderful, as expected. She sang all the songs that I hoped for, and did a nice job with the intros to them. The unexpected pleasure (for me, at least) was her opening act: Pete and Maura Kennedy. They did a great set on their own, then provided the harmony vocals and guitar work for Nanci during her set. I would buy tickets to see them on their own anytime.

I last saw Nanci Griffith play in Washington DC in the 1980s. Her music resonated with me as a young adult, and still does now as a 50 something with a few more responsibilities. My kids sang along to her songs while they were growing up, and she is still inspirational on both a musical and a personal level. At the Aladdin in Portland, Ms.Griffith played both old and new songs, and had good warm up musicians. The concert was just right in terms of the venue and songs played. She tells great stories, both with her songs and in between her songs live!

Wow, I say again, wow! Ms. Griffith was phenomenal, her musical ability and her stage presence are so real. She enjoyed the audience, she wasn't just there to do her 90 minutes & leave the stage. As I get older, I see the performers getting older & either they are there for the money or they are there because they feel blessed to still be able to do what they love to do & honored that people still care. Her band are also incredible musicians, very talented with great stage presence. Venue is so great, the setting is so intimate and being outside with good sound is so much fun! Especially in MN land of snow! I know that Nanci suffers from arthiritis in her hands, as I also do, I am amazed that she works through the pain with so much love for the music. Thank you for a night I will never forget (until the alzheimers sets in)

I have listened to Nanci Griffith's music for decades, to that odd point where I feel she is an old friend. She gave us a great mix of old songs and some new. I enjoyed the Kennedys, who were playing with her that evening. There was a cohesive feeling with the performers and the audience, and the background of the outdoor sky and landscape at the amphitheater added to the evening.

Love Nanci's music and its unfortunate that the years have taken a toll on her guitar work and vocals. Although a pair of great musicians that backed her up really carried the evening. probably tough to do two nights in a row with arthiritus. However all the politics I could live without. Its unfortunate that even at concerts these days performers have to make such an effort to divide us by politics.

Row E center seats just might be the best vantage point in this little arena. nanci was spot on vocally, and sang from a broad spectrum of her repertoire (I appreciated this since I'm not as familiar with her recent recordings), She tended to ramble a bit between numbers but I chalk this up to her quirky personality. Nice to be able to imbibe right in the seats, and will follow the example of others and bring those camper-type seats next time that offer a bit of back support. All in all, this was an excellent show.

This concert was a benefit for the 75th Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway, so it was fitting that Nanci perform there. She picked a wonderful repotoire of her catalog, mostly having to do with the road, saying that over the years she has been inspired while driving this road. She also said that the parkway has been a friend while she was criss crossing the country alone early in her career. Never one to shy away from speaking out, she of course, chatted with the audience between songs. Her drummer of over 20 years, Pat McInerey, was with her as well as Thomm Jutz, guitarist and JD Brown, bassist.

Nanci's voice was in great form, but did anyone do a soundcheck? The bass was booming and Nanci's voice was drowned out. People say that Town Hall doesn't have a bad seat in the house, but they do if you end up in orchestra right row K with a HUGE speaker system in your face. Nanci's song choices were great and her voice was strong, but it was no match for the bad job of sound mixing and overpowering bass lines and percussion. It was really a shame. People go to see Nanci to listen to her tell stories through her beautiful songs but no use trying to listen to a story when you can't hear the storyteller. :(

Nanci Griffith was a shining star on Friday night at Town Hall. Her voice remains beautiful and her rapport with the audience was special. The three-man band was tight and professional without being overbearing. Her end-of-concert guests added to the sound, especially the background harmonies of Maura Kennedy. Nanci continues to proudly display her folkie roots from a Texas perspective. "If I Had a Hammer," a tribute to Mary Travers, Odetta and Pete Seeger, sparkled. The songs I knew from CD's sounded better live than they do on the recordings. Great show!

My husband and I had great seats in the orchestra in the third row. The band was great and moved thru the music with ease. I just felt so happy to hear many of the songs I knew and the conversation between the songs was a delight because Nanci brought the audience together that way. Of course, she is on the right side of my political views and seeing her buttons on her guitar strap made me fill connected to a bigger thing. And her songs sounded just like I knew them.

This concert was wonderful. A mix of old songs & new songs from her latest album, The Loving Kind. The sound & lighting were perfect at Town Hall. Nanci Griffith is one of my all time favorite singer-songwriters! I love her art of story telling and think she is a genius when it comes to writing songs. I love hearing the story or inspiration behind each of her songs! I love that she always gives the songwriter and or original singer credit, because I have discovered so many of the old & new greats this way! Please keep this up Nanci, in your concerts and album notes! And even though I do not agree with 100% of her politics, she gets her lightly peppered points across in an eloquent way & always remembers that people come to her concerts to hear her sing. The show highlighted some of her greatest hits & ended like a real hoedown with a stage full of guests including Judy Gold to sing a song dedicated to Odetta & Mary Travers! What a treat! She encouraged the audience to sing along on some of the songs and with Nanci smiling the entire time you feel like you are friends with her singing in her living room. The show was about 90 minutes with a 15 minute encore which is great, but I only wish it was a longer show with 2 or 3 encores. I also give her latest album The Loving Kind 5 stars too! ps. Town Hall should keep the people in the lobby quiet during the opening act. That was rude for Amy Speace & annoying to the audience who was trying to enjoy her music.
