The Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty is a bit of a dry plot, when compared to the more action-packed Nutcracker or equivalent ballets. Lending to the confusion, no program booklets were handed out for the performance, so it made it tricky to guess the number of acts/intermissions, let alone follow some of the characters in the last act (if you weren't familiar with the ballet) or even the names of the dancers. The scenery was nice, costumes very sparkly and appealing, and dancers were very good. The theater was absolutely beautiful and historic. There's a whole separate club area with a bar and food, but I was confused as to how anyone could stand in the concessions line and eat in the short intermission time. The bathrooms are downstairs - I don't know if I noticed handicap access. We managed to find a nearby $12 parking lot, but, for the price of the tickets and the exorbitant handling fees, I wish parking had been included.

Both my wife and I were able to travel to LA to see the Sleeping Beauty performance at the Orpheum Theatre. The theater has a strong vintage feel to it that added to the performance. We will be coming back again next year if the show continues, as well as see other performances at this theater.

The ballet Sleeping Beauty was excellent! The costuming was beautiful. The colors and richness of each were exceptional. The stage arrangement was very pretty and created a feeling of enchantment. The dancing was especially beautiful and the choreography was amazing. From the first act to the last act the dancing was wonderful. The evil fairy s portrayal of a wicked being was very good and very believable. My granddaughters were on the edge of their seats during most of the performance. My husband said he thought the dancers were the best he had ever seen, and I have to agree. The performance was excellent and provided a delightful afternoon of entertainment. Thank you for providing an everlasting memory.

Amazing orchestra play and production. A little long

It was far too long. While I think the ballet artists on stage did a good job and were very talented, the ballet started at 8 p.m. and lasted until 11! My husband and I were so tired we were ready to just leave while it was still going on. Also, I think ushers (or someone) need to do a better job of keeping people in line. There was a little girl in our row who talked the entire way through, got up in the aisle to dance, conduct the orchestra, and clap while no one else was clapping. We were not far into the row and the ushers were sitting right by us. It was a major distraction. People around them shushed them, and when that didn't work, they left their seats. Overall: It was a talented performance that simply went far too long.

Dancers were very good and some of the choreography was quite unique. The scenery was OK except for the prologue which was awful and had nothing to do with the rest of the set. Would have worked better half intensity or not at all. Seems to me that someone with a little more artistic integrity would expect better.

Fantastic show! The dancing was beautiful, the music was great....wonderful night!!

The Sleeping Beauty was Spectacular!! Amazing performance...Amazing dancers. The artistry, choreography, the intricate techniques displayed by each dancer was phenomenal. I am looking forward to another performance.

The ballet was exceptional, I love to see Russian performances, they have a unique style. I'm a little disappointed because they were no scenery changes. I've seen Sleeping Beauty eight or ten times with different ballet companies and most of them had scenery changes which was great. What happen to the Orchestra ? They should've been a live orchestra for what I paid for seating :( I've paid less for ballets with a live orchestera.

The theater was fantastic and beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The performance was spectacular and the dancers extremely talented. I would definitely recommend this event to anyone.

Very good performance. Very interesting to see the Russian approach to dancing, so different from the American. Slower, much more precise. All in all, an excellent program.

This was the first time I saw a live ballet performance. I chose the Company and the Ballet with care. It was a wonderful experience.

The last time I saw a Ballet with so many wonderful dancers was sixty years ago when I was in High School. That was "Swan Lake" also performed by an all Russian Cast in the old Madison Square Garden

The Russian State Ballet has amazing dancer/atheletes. Tchaikovdky music was wonderful.

For the price of the tickets, I expected a live orchestra!

Dancing excellent. For admission, price there should have beeen a live orchestra. Also, no scenery set changes made view unstimulating.

Most talented dancers, sample of great Russian Ballet. Beautiful costumes,stage. Unfortunately the music was recorded, if it would be live it will be extrodenary! After all it's Tchaikovsky !!

Excellent performance by the Russian State Ballet Company at the Genessee Theatre in Waukegan, IL. Lovely theatre and wonderful time. Especially liked that you could bring your (alcoholic) beverage into the performance. As my husband said, "It's not my first time at the ballet, boys!"

A lovely adaptation that I and my 8 year old daughter both enjoyed.

The Ballet had some really great Dancers ! Maybe a bit long towards the end but still one of the best Ballet's that I have seen. These folks can dance !

My 14 year old daughter and I had a great experience at this performance. The costumes were excellent. The dancers are very good. Admittedly however the venue is just average. The theatre is very well appointed but was cold inside. Sound system is below average. All in all though I would see this performance at this price in this theatre again.

This was phenominal! Too bad weather stopped people from coming. A truly great performance was missed. The principles were outstanding. Please bring more Ballet to Joliet, more specifically to the Rialto!!!!!!

We loved every moment of this ballet. The costumes were beautiful, the set evocative of the settings, the dancers professional and talented, the principal dancers well above average and the Prima Ballerina fantastic. The recorded music was fine but a little louder than necessary at times. The ticket prices were amazing for the orchestra seats we had. Only detraction all the service fees on the tickets that amounted to almost 50% of the ticket price.

Sleeping Beauty was unforgettable,beautiful,and amazing!:)(: and wished there was an orchestra.

While the staging was lovely and the performers well schooled, the digital orchestral manipulation regrettably interrupted the continuity and natural flow of this beautiful piece.

The costumes in this production were incredible - magnificent. The dancing was ok.

This was our annual ballet outing with the grand daughters. They had a wonderful time and were captivated by the dancing. However, we didn't realize there was no live orchestra, which detracted from my enjoyment...but only the slightest bit. When we plan next year's outing, we will certainly keep this in mind.

This was a wonderful event to introduce our adult children to the ballet. The grace of the dance intertwined with the scheming of the dark, evil witch made it even more entertaining. The intimacy of the Hippodrome venue is always great for these productions.

First and foremost: Extremely disappointed there was not a live orchestra of any kind. That should have been made clear initially. Lighting was rudimentary. Overall, an enjoyable performance, but we did not think Nureyev would have approved.

the classical ballet performance and the costumes were wonderful. The performer who danced the character of the wicked fairy did a marvellous characterization. The only thing that could have improved our experience was a live orchestra.

World class performance by the principle ballerina and the lead dancer. The entire corps was spectacar and the students were impressive. Look forward to the next performance

We paid $170 dollars for our ticket. We were on 3rd row from the stage. Very amateur! Is this ballet from Russia? It does not seem. Movements were not together. This looked like end of the year presentation of some amateur schools. By the way, no orchestra! And theater is very small.

Wonderful performance and awesome talent. This cast is well worth seeing and an experience you will remember.

Ballet Idaho did a remarkable job with 'Sleeping Beauty'. The costumes and set were so elaborate and added another dimension to this timeless story. The dancers were excellent!! This ballet was delightful, I only wish we could see more of these fairy tale ballets.

This production exceeded my expectations! The sets were amazing, the dancers were exceptional. I really appreciated learning about the pantomime that would be included in the ballet. I was able to watch and catch the bits throughout the entire production.

Absolutely stunning! It was my first ballet and I fell in love! My only complaint was the music, I wish it could have been live. IT was played through speakers above the performance and the tapping of the dancers feet distracted me from the performance. But other than that, the dancers were graceful and danced beautifully. It was truly a magical experience

Costumes, Make up, sets, and of course the dancing was BEAUTIFUL!!

The dancing was beautiful and the choreography fit the music well.

I really enjoyed seeing Sleeping Beauty. The costumes and staging were beautiful. The dancing was great! All the dancers were so graceful. The only part that was hard was the final act which seemed to drag on- thru no fault of the ballet company. It appears the composer added all the extra stuff back in the 1700's and the ballet company was simply staying true to the original score.

This ballet was incredible!! Everything from the dancers to the outfits, to the props, to the set! Just amazing! Favorite moment had to be when Carrabosse put the curse on Aurora and the Lilac fairy had the curse reversed and changed. Just a spectacular visual/gestured moment. Also, the Bluebirds were amazing. The male bluebird was just phenomenal! I really loved Puss In Boots with the White Cat too. Added a nice comedic bit! The seats were spectacular. Just to the right of being center stage, but being so close is great. I loved being able to see the dancers expressions as opposed to being farther away or on the second level seating.

Sleeping Beauty was a great performance enhanced with talented dancers and amazing costumes. My only complaint was that it was too long. Most of the children were asleep after 2 hours at the Fri. night show. I felt it could have been over 1/2 hour before it was. 10:40 is too late to get out of a ballet.

Ballet Idaho's Sleeping Beauty was a masterpiece! The level of talent at Ballet Idaho is just phenomenal. This was a world-class production. Peter Anastos' outstanding choreography gave the dancers so many opportunities to display their amazing talents. From the youngest dancers through the seasoned pros, this ballet was outstanding. We look forward to next season's major productions of The Nutcracker and Peter Pan. Many thanks to all who made this possible.

The recent appearance of Ballet Theatre of Maryland performing The Sleeping Beauty at fhe Lyric Theater was truly exciting and delightful. The performance flowed exceptionally well with new choreography by Artistic Director Dianna Cuatto which eliminated dull walking around parts seen in past presentations of this ballet by other companies. However, Ms Cuatto retained beloved iconic dances such as the Rose Adaggio and the Lilac Fairy's solo so the ballet was a very effective combination of old and new. Contemporary ballet moves were used to distinguish Carabosse, the evil fairy, and her minions. The costumes were fabulous with sparkling tutus befitting the fairies which were named after precious jewels. The use of a scrim was quite effective in creating the illusion of a castle overgrown with thorns and vines.

I got tickets for my daughter(who dances in a local high school magnet dance program) and wife. 5th row off the stage. They came out after a 3 1/2 hours ballet and the first words out of their mouth were..."What a waste of money!" Beside the manors of people sitting around them, they said one lady climbed over the seats like she was at Camden Yards or Ravens Stadium, to move to another row, they both said the dancing was horrible, except for one of the male dancers. They also said the acting was brutal to watch and at time even "laughable". Based on the way they spoke about it, I wish i could get my money back. I will not be buying any more tickets to ballets that are done by the Maryland Ballet Company.

The Ballet The Sleeping Beauty was so Beautiful, it made for a very enjoyable evening. My Sister and I had a wonderful evening. I would see this Ballet again and again. The Principle Dancers were amazing!!! I Love the BalletTheatre of Maryland!!!

Every bit of the performance was outstanding. I would recommend if you like to see all the footwork , my granddaughter is a ballerina, sit further.back. We had excellent seats to see all of the drama very well, but couldn't see the foot positioning. Still no matter it was beautiful and well done.

This was just a lovely experience. The dancing, the costumes, the music. There was so much dancing - it is three hours long! - and so many different types of dancing, that we really got a sense of the whole company's strengths, from the corps to the principals. We left fully satisfied and the beautiful images have been staying with me all week! I only wish that the dragon scene was longer! I loved that dragon.

The dancing and costumes were beautiful, but it was just a little bit too long. 3 1/2 hours is a long time to watch a ballet. It was hard for my daughter (age 39 w/disabilities) to understand the interpretation without my narative and this was a long time for her to sit and remain interested.

Sleeping Beauty was magnificently performed in this beautiful ballet. It filled you with a magical and romantic feeling, not to be forgotten too soon!

Outstanding cast of ballerinas. Beautiful costumes.

This was a children's recital--not a ballet. I paid $100 for two tickets to see a children's recital. This is not a professional ballet show and should not be marketed as such. The children were sweet and I could tell that they worked hard and made their parents proud. However, for what I paid I expected to see a professional show not a dance recital.

I don't usually relate to Ballets, they don't always tell the story they are meant to tell, but this one was excellent. I took my granddaughter in law and two great grandchildren, both in local ballet, and all enjoyed it immensely

The lead dancers were very good. The young lady that was sleeping beauty was amazing in skill. The down fall for the show as a whole was there was a lot of inexperienced dancers in the company. The did a good job for being as young as they were but when you pay a professional price you expect professional ballet. It was reminiscent of a childs recital at times. Very cute but not worth the high cost of admission. It was the same as paying for a 5 star steak dinner and getting a happy meal instead. This was a birthday date for my wife and we agreed in the disappointment.

Most beautiful music written for ballet. Gorgeous dancing and costumes. But, at three hours, TOO LONG. There were several solo/duet pieces, especially in the last act that were performer showcases, but unnecessary to the story line. There were also several other places where the ballet could have been shortened. The additional of other characters, e.g., Puss N Boots, Red Riding Hood, etc. do not add to the story line, either. This was my first time seeing Sleeping Beauty. I will not go again unless I see that it has been significantly shortened.

The entire program from start to finish was absolutely fantastic. The music and dancing were both marvelous. I am just sorry the place was not filled to capacity to support the programs or so more people could have enjoyed the experience.

We enjoyed this excellent performance of Sleeping Beauty. The costumes and scenery were lavish. The dancers were graceful and skilled. And the orchestra added wonderful musical talents to make the entire performance grand experience.

Although I realize that this was a student production there were more "low lights" than highlights. Some of those in principle roles were not up to the task, There was, however, some brilliance shown by those who had smaller roles (Act III). The ensemble was out of sync almost constantly. I shudder to think what JCA will do with/to Swan Lake.

Excellent performance with some small technical issues during the show, but the overall of the event was great!.

Pros- Dancers performed beautifully and the costumes and backdrops were eyecatching. Cons - set decorations were minimal and the story line was uneventful.

When I bought tickets to the ballet, I thought it was going to be an actual ballet with an orchestra and everything. I get to the event and find out it would of been cheaper to just buy tickets at the door and then there is no orchestra, just a stereo playing music and it was more like a school production ballet.

Great performance. I loved the scenaries and the costumes. The artists gave their all. The yungest performers were adorable.

The play was so amazing. Every ballerina was a great dancer. I loved the costumes they were so gorgeous!! I liked this version of Sleeping Beauty because its very different from what most people know!! My eyes were glued onto the ballerinas the whole time, I didn't get bored at all. I will recommend this play to my friends.

The story line could have been anything. Did not need to mirror a Disney production but there were enough unusual interpretations to a classic so that younger children at intermission could be heard asking parents when the sleeping Beauty story would start. Two unusually tall dancers were cast for major parts and that was a distraction and a disappointment as they do not have the range of motion needed for ballet. Some freakish reliance on hand movements throughout was hard to take. Some of the dancers actually look at their hands to see if they were doing what I m sure was requested of them.

My parents took my 7 year old daughter and they all had a wonderful time. The performance, the set, the venue, they loved it all.

I went into this ballet with a closed mind and was expecting to be bored to death. 2 hours of a play with no words? What could be worse? But it instantly captured my attention from the very start and held it to the very end. And the 2 hours flew by. The dancers were unbelievable. I'm definitely going to be going to more ballets in the future :) also, this theater is amazing. The seats are very comfortable and there isn't a bad seat in the whole place.

The ballet was great as well as the music that accompanied it. I have watched this ballet at another venue, but I feel that this ballet was done much better. You can tell that the cast was enjoying themselves, a different vibe than the ballet I had watched before.

The cast was fantastic! Even for someone that doesn't know about ballet, it was self explanatory. We would recommend for anyone and any age to see this amazing Ballet. We truly enjoyed the entire production. The dancers were beautiful!!

Sleeping Beauty was AWESOME!. This was my daughter's first ballet. She absoutley LOVED it!!! It was very well done and the costumes were amazing!

I brought 4 children under the age of 7 and all really loved the production also loved the back stage tour. The dancers were very talented and such dedication. i have gotten tickets for 4 other ballets and 2 plays but never in this section I would not purchase from this section again.

It was great and my 4 year old loved it. Great first ballet experience.

Truly a special event to watch. The performance was fantastic. Lighting, music, effects, and overall show was first class. All of the dancers performed exceptionally well and all local talent.......a must see for all ages to enjoy and experience.

A wonderful performance! I took my 5 and 3.5 year old daughters and my 5 year old was able to track with the story line because the performers did a fantastic job conveying with their motions and emotions. We look forward to every Ballet Etudes! Thank you!

It was a good show. Costuming and sets were excellent. I have seen this dancing group several times and this was not their best performance. That being said, the male guest dancers from Arizona Ballet were outsanding.

I took my daughter and granddaughter with me and we all enjoyed this ballet very much. The performances were very good and the costumes and sets were very good as well. We will definitely look forward to seeing this again in the future.

Most of the people there had a personal reason to be there. It was okay, but not memorable. We left at Intermission.

In over 50 years of attending dance and ballet performances, this was without a doubt the worst performance we have ever seen. The four principal artists were fair to good, the company was a disaster. At times they seemed to be bumping into each other. One male "dancer" or performer seemed lost and clueless as to what to do in the last scenes. To add insult to the audience, the chandeliers were crooked. The scene in which the female campany danced in white costumes, I suppose they were nightgowns, was the most awkward dance scene in what was an extremely poor performance. We will never attend the Corpus Christi ballet again.

Excellent performance, but thought I was at a practice session since the orchestra was not there.

This was overall a decent ballet and the music was beautiful. The corps de ballet could have been a bit more together. The Principal Dancers were average. Very god company if you are new to the arts but someone who has seen ballet before and is familiar with it, this company will leave wanting a little bit more.

Took my 10 yr old daughther and her 2 friends. They had such a wonderful time. The costumes and stage were beautiful.

Don't recall cowboy hats in sleeping beauty.......or little red riding hood....bluebird and his wife. I was looking forward to the jump in the last scene...what happen...weak ending.

I took my daughters to the Sunday performance of Sleeping Beauty. The Ballet was beautiful! We sat in the dress circle boxes--we kind of spread out--such a wonderful performance! Thanks to the Ferguson Center for bringing in this troupe. My daughters--6 and 7--plus my wonderful "bonus" daughter, who is 27---had a great time. Such fun to dress up and go to the Ballet....

The costumes were just beautiful! loved it all! It was a great way to spend the afternoon-beautiful dancing and music!

The performance was nice - the costumes were beautiful. I only wish there was more focus surrounding the scene when the sleeping beauty was kissed - that's such an important scene and I felt like it didn't get the right amount of emotion/attention. I wish that scene got more attention and then I would be ok reducing the amount of other time devoted to the red hood and the wolf, etc.

I got seats, as a surprise, for my girlfriend, second row, just right of center. AMAZING SEATS for the price. The Ballet was impressive and amazing. The Ferguson Center was a perfect venue. My girlfriend was so excited that she was almost in tears, the whole time. Definately a must see!!!! The Russian National Ballet was flawless and magical. I would go back and see them perform any time they are in town.

The Russian National Ballet did a wonderful job with Sleeping Beauty. I was lucky enough to snag front row seats, so I could literally see the sweat on their faces and the tension in their muscles as they danced, and it was quite an impressive performance. Sitting that close, I also was witness to a few minor flaws... but I suppose that's the give and take of sitting in the front! I will say, a couple of the dancers were not always in character when they were onstage. Probably something I would not have noticed sitting further back, but still, it was mildly distracting. Overall, it was very well done, the dancing was beautiful, and I would certainly recommend it to a friend.

The ballet was beautiful, but was a little slow and long for my six year old children. Unless a child has a high interest in ballet, I would recommend waiting until they are older to attend a full length ballet.

I was very suprised to find that the performance of Sleeping Beauty was not by a traveling Ballet Company but rather a collection of students in what appeared to be a season ending recital. The performance although decent had students ranging from 4 years old to teen agers with a handful of adults. Some scenes were added to give everyone an opportunity to dance. This would be OK if either Ticket Master or the Chandler Center for the Arts advertised as such; they did not. Which left me wondering; why on earth would Ticket Master sell tickets to a local recital meant for family members? The event was entertaining but bottom line this was deciptive advertising.

This was a great version of the Sleeping Beauty ballet. The dancing by the older students was very good and the younger students were charming. The lead dancers were a joy to watch. The costumes transported us back to an earlier age filled with faires and royalty. It was a very professional show. What a nice way to spend an evening in Chandler.

The evening was upbeat and CCA is a great venue and--there isn't a bad seat in the house. Yen-Li Chen is a talented ballet school, the dancers are well trained, the costumes are beautiful and the choreography is very impressive. However, I only gave it three stars because a lot of the three hour show should have been edited-especially the repeat performances of advanced dancers throughout (the show was heavily geared toward showcasing a handful of advanced performers rather than the school as a whole). It was disappointing that professional dancers were brought in rather than utilizing the students, as it did not enhance enjoyment of the performance. The show felt like it was trying to be on par with a professional dance company's production (rather than a production open to all students at the school) because it heavily downplayed the performances of the school's beginning and intermediate students. Even at the finale, the most experienced performers bowed and curtsied in front of all the younger performers, eclipsing them from view and not even looking back to acknowledge them. One comment I have is that many of the dancers do not seem feel the music and time their steps to it. As a result, even the more senior dancers were not dancing in unison. Overall, the dancers were strong and the show was enjoyable to watch.

The costumes were gorgeous, and the dancers were pretty good. The only problem was that it dragged on a little long. By the end all the dance moves had been done before and it felt repetitive.

Both the Lake Charles Ballet and Lake Charles Symphony Orchestra did a marvelous job on this ballet. The dancers were lovely, elegant and very talented. There were times I had to remind myself that the dancers were performing to a live orchestra-When I'd remember, I'd look down at the musicians and think, "Wow! It's like I'm listening to a movie score, but it's actual, real people who live in my town!" Incredible job, Maestro!!

The dancing and the music were extraodinary. I loved the costumes, too. The whole show was beautiful.
