Springsteen on Broadway (NY)

Springsteen on Broadway (NY)

Springsteen on Broadway is a solo acoustic performance written and performed by Bruce Springsteen under the lights of Broadway. It is an intimate night with Bruce, his guitar, a piano, and his stories.“My vision of these shows is to make them as personal and intimate as possible. I chose Broadway for this project because it has the beautiful old theaters which seemed like the right setting for what I have in mind.

I have seen Bruce over 100 times in my life time and looked forward to this special event. It was an amazing show and very personal. He shared the his upbringing from his home though his eyes and his music career. He's truly a classic rocker who just loves what he does and has lived his dream though his music. I also have loved that he is truly a perfectionist in his craft and is all about the details. I'm very fortunate that he was my first concert and every time I have seen him I appreciate him even more. If you have the opportunity to see him in this venue I highly recommend it, its worth the trip.

Bruce as always out does any expectations. He is by far the most talented musician EVER! I have followed him for over 40 years. My Daughter and I were in the front row center. Great seats. Got to talk briefly to him, never long enough.... I got his autograph and his guitar pic!!! So excited one thing I am truly Amazed with all he does... ! I would Love to just be able to sit and talk to him. So much I would Love to ask him. I feel like I know him.... I m a Jersey Girl who knows this man never disappoints. I Listen to Bruce on Sirius radio all the time. LOVE YOU BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN!!

An absolutely amazing show where you get close up and under the skin of who is Bruce Springsteen and how did he evolve and become the man and artist he is today. Oh yeah, and the music. Different and very cool versions of 15 songs at the core of the Springsteen and E-Street legendary song book. I would go again, anytime.

It s a very different show than any previous ones. It s an intimate setting, small theater with just him and his guitar or piano. It s based on his autobiography and he talks about his life and the inspirations for his songs and he played those songs he talks about. It was a very entertaining show.

Any Springsteen fan is already going to want to see this so this is for anyone who is not already a fan or not convinced to spend then money. I was shocked I actually got a ticket to Springsteen on Broadway, and when I did then I had to figure out how to get there, etc. I live many states away & I don't really have the extra funds for travel & lodging. Given this, as much as I wanted to see Bruce doing this performance I was stressed about it but let me tell you I am sooooo happy I did. The show is exactly what everyone has heard about it: a mixture of storytelling and song. Anyone who has read Springsteen's autobiography, "Born to Run," is going to be familiar with the stories, but there is a little more embellishment. Now if you have read the book and are wondering why you should go see him tell some of the stories especially given the high price of tickets, well let me tell you that you should. There's is something about hearing Bruce tell these stories and then playing you a song related to the story that there are no good words to explain. There's an emotion you can hear in Springsteen's voice and if you've read his book you know how much performing means to him. If you have seen him live you know there is no one better than Bruce Springsteen at showing his/her/their audience just how important being a rock star (or other music) is to him/her/them. As someone who has only seen Bruce with the E Street Band I wondered if his passion was going to show through in this performance, not only because of the solo gig but also because he has been doing it for many, many months now. Well he did not disappoint. I was so happy with this show that I would go see it again if possible. For the songs Springsteen plays he alternates between the guitar and the piano with more songs being played on guitar. Patti comes out and performs 2 songs with him (you can feel the love between them). And in true Springsteen style the show is 2 hours and 20 minutes - no intermission. The one thing I wish is that I could have afforded a seat much closer. I sat in the balcony (picture attached) and thankfully this is a small theater. And if you're still wondering if it's worth it, let me tell you the woman sitting next to me bought her ticket at the last minute from that other vender and paid $948. She had never seen Springsteen and afterwards I asked her if she thought the show was worth what she paid. Her answer was, "Yes."

Excellent show in all facets. I have seen Bruce in many forms and venues over the years from smaller clubs up to large stadiums. This was by far the most intimate and relatable format that he has ever presented. The sound was nearly perfect and despite the very scripted format, ala a Broadway 1 man show, the extemporaneous nature of the material and his soulful presentation made it seem almost spontaneous. The songs chosen reflected very well each of the segments and enhanced the storytelling. This is an experience that any Bruce fan will truly enjoy and relish as part of the appreciation for having this unique performer be part of our lives.

As a very economically disabled lifetime Springsteen fan I never thought I d be able to pull it off but I registered anyway. When they extended through June I went ahead and purchased 2 balcony seats. I then started piecemealing the trip from Ca using every discounted travel I could find. First of all the balcony is great. 75$ as compared to 600 more just a few feet lower is a no brainer. I ve seen Bruce live for 40 years now and this night on Broadway is as unique and special and breathtaking as any one I ve ever seen. His first solo tour in the 90 s was a boring snoozer but how he pulls this night off is STUNNING. Nearly impossible to believe and even though he is doing it night after night you can t believe that it s not the very first night when you see it and Bruce opens up his life. I don t want to spoil anything but to hear the observations of 7 year old Bruce helping his mom is something I ll never forget. This is beyond anything I ve ever experienced in a theatre presentation. It is absolutely one of the most amazing artistic achievements I ve ever been privileged to witness.

What can I say other than WOW! What a show. The stories of Bruce s childhood, breaking into Rock and Roll from a small NJ town to his friendship and life lessons learned from Clarence Clemons it is a show not to be missed. The stories of Bruce's Life told through words and some of his greatest and most poignant songs is the perfect combination for the diehard and even casual fan of the Boss. If you have the opportunity to do, DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW! It will change your life.

I ve bent over 1000 shows over my lifetime and always ranked the top 5 as 1. Neil Young solo acoustic at Carnegie Hall 1/7/2014, Bruce Capitol Theatre 9/19/78, Allman Brothers with Eric Clapton at The Beacon Theatre 3/20/2009, Cream at MSG 10/252005 and The Allman Brothers at the Centrel Theatre 9/10/1971. Springsteen On Broadway just moved up to #1. What an incredible evening of heartfelt storytelling and music. It was just sublime.

Could Springsteen be anything less than amazing? He wove stories from his book with songs, an evening filled with pathos shot through with humor. Crazy pricey but worth it to me. Wish I d preordered my wine. I thought $14/glass was a lot but they charged $18 at the venue. You do get a little souvenir cup. Go to this show if you can manage to snag a seat.

I had a great time in the theatre. There really wasn't anything new here if you have listened to his autobiographical audio book, but do you really go to hear him in concert and want all new songs? Bruce is tender and affectionate to all, his past, his music, his wife and his fans. The show does not lag for a single minute. I wonder how it is different from night to night? I hope that I am lucky enough to get a chance to find out!

Bruce was amazing! He opened his life and heart to us. 2 songs with his wife. Great slow versions of some of the songs, and rocked out on acoustic on others. I'm so glad I got to go! Our seats were in the balcony, which was surprisingly high above the floor, so we mostly saw the top of his head, which was the only down side. But we got the cheapest tickets, so what could we expect?

The show was better than what I anticipated. Bruce is very reflective in his music, friends and his own mortality. He was funny at times and brought me to tears at times. In speaking about his faith and those who had he had lost, he spoke about those souls being with him every day. He says he feels their energy. Towards the end of the show he recited the Lord's Prayer. Simply an awesome experience!

well, I am now 71 years old- last year I had reached out to try and purchase one of the new shows opening in NYC. My goal was that at that time I have seen Bruce '69 times' so I wanted to get to 70 shows/concerts while I was 70 years old! Did not get through on the tickets then and initially in 2018 trying to decide if I wanted to pay for the 'high' fees which would also include flying in from Chicago, staying in a hotel, etc. The question is was it a 'good' decision. The answer, it was a 'GREAT DECISION'. I only admire Bruce more and more and realize he is about 68 years old but still explaining his views, reasons and history of his life. A great person to engage and I am so thankful for all the years with Bruce. My song at marriage was Land of Hope and Dreams- it is the same song I will maintain as I edge out of life. Great thanks - Bruce

What a night on Broadway. There he was, Bruce - walking out of the wings slowly, just with his acoustic guitar slung over his shoulder. Bruce, the guy I saw many times in giant arenas, who has the gift to put 20.000 people in his palm within 45 seconds. His energy, his intensity - it never failed to get me. Now he stands just a few feet away from me, talking to the audience in a low voice, like this 1000 seats theater is his living room and you, just you, came over for a few drinks. He takes you on a tour through his childhood in Freehold, NJ, his family, his friends and when he talks about his dad, I feel my eyes getting damp. Then I noticed the guy sitting next to me is crying too. Holy crap - Bruce is crying and he thinks nothing of it. Time to get us off the suicide trip and he launches into lighthearted stories about his mom, sitting at the piano, it's mesmerizing. He brings out Patty for two tunes and it's a lovely moment - you can tell she is his rock and has been for a long time. I want to stop the clock, the evening is going by way too fast, I haven't even quite relaxed yet. He has a few more emotional stories in his sleeve (talking about Danny and Clarence) and we all collectively cry again - including him. He is 68 years old and for the first time I see the wrinkles, the thinner looking hair, the arms that aren't quite as muscular anymore... And then he launches into The Rising, acoustic, but with his powerful voice filling the House and you feel the energy, the intensity, it's reaching for your heart and people finally dare to shout Bruuuuce and get up to dance and laugh. He took us all for a ride - like he always does, just a very different one this time. Bruce Springsteen - in my eyes one of the greatest.

This is not a Bruce Springsteen concert, although there are a lot of familiar Springsteen songs throughout the show. Bruce Springsteen has always told extensive stories in his concerts throughout the past 40 years. However, in his current residency at the Walter Kerr Theater in Manhattan, NYC, aptly called Springsteen on Broadway, he took that staple of his shows to a whole new level. With each of the 15 songs he performed, either with him as a soloist on acoustic guitar or acoustic piano (and twice with his wife and guitarist/background singer Patti Scialfa), he gave audiences a rich, detailed, relevant, engrossing, and poetic view of his early life and its influence on his full catalogue of songs across five decades of albums. Suffice it to say that any Springsteen fan of substance should make the sojourn to New York City and pony up the Broadway-commensurate fee to see this show before its run ends in later 2018. While Springsteen, as recently as 2003, has played to sold out football stadiums with some 80,000 viewers, this current project offers his fans the intimacy of an 800-seat theater, and, as such, is not to be missed under any circumstances should tickets be accessible and affordable.

The many reviews prepared me for an emotional unforgettable experience from Springsteen on Broadway. And this fan of Bruce for more than 45 years was not disappointed. I laughed, I cried (three times) and was floated into Springsteen nirvana by the intimate stories and the songs those experiences became. For me, there was nothing totally new, since I had read the book and have disected every Springsteen lyric for years. But taken as a whole, the show was near perfection. It is a must see for any devote Bruce fan and would be well enjoyed by any casual Springsteen fan. If there is any disappointment, it is the outrageous ticket prices coupled with the rediculous drink prices at the venue. And yes, the seats are packed very tightly together.

Not much more can be said. He has a special gift in his ability to communicate with most people. Usually in a stadium of 100,000 people you feel like he is speaking directly to you. And in this theater setting take it up a 100 notches. He is so easy to relate to and bring you back to the same struggles most people go through in the growing up process.

Think you know Bruce? I bet you don't. Neither did we. Not until we were fortunate enough to attend this revelation of his life in words, song and glorious guitar and piano! In his own words, parts of his career could surely be seen as a Brilliant Disguise. He revealed his work's desire to "Rock You All Out As Never Before"! Well Bruce, you have certainly gotten that job done and we thank you sincerely. The Kerr Theater is a perfectly intimate venue for this style of show. Only one word of caution is if you have long legs check into orchestra level seating as there hopefully is more legroom than on the mezzanine level.

You only make a cross-country trip and pay nearly $1,000 for a ticket to see Springsteen at this stage of his career because you harbor some kind of obsession with the greatest rock'n'roll singer/songwriter the world has ever known. The show was divided about 50/50 between excerpts of his autobiography and a moving performance of some of his finest songs--all solo except for two duets with his wife Patti. Songs performed were "Growing Up", "My Hometown", "My Father's House", "The Wish", "Thunder Road", "Promised Land", "Born in the USA", "Tenth Avenue Freezeout", "Tougher than the Rest", "Brilliant Disguise", "Long Walk Home", "The Rising", "Dancing in the Dark", "Land of Hope and Dreams", and "Born to Run". It was rather difficult staying in my seat through a song like "Dancing in the Dark", but that was the nature of the event. I broke the house rules by taking the attached photos during "Born to Run", but as the lyrics from his opening song say, "when they said 'Sit down" I stood up", I guess I am still growing up.

Well.....that was epic. No other way to describe it. Bruce Springsteen on Broadway. Two hours and twenty minutes, no intermission, just Bruce and his guitar and piano. He sang 15 songs (His wife Patti Scialfa joined him for 2 of those songs.) interspersed with stories of growing up, life in a small blue collar New Jersey town, breaking out in the world of rock and roll. He is 68 years old now and speaks about life to which the sold-out audience of 900 mostly baby boomers could relate. He is one of the musical poets of our generation, after all. A poignant, emotional evening for all of us.

For those who expect your typical Bruce Springsteen show, you might be disappointed, as that is not what this show is about. It is for the person who is more interested in what makes Bruce who he is, how his music came about, etc. If you've read his autobiography, he tells stories and vignettes from that book, starting with his childhood, and then introduces a song that is relevant to that era or event. It is an all acoustic event, and some of the songs are done in a way that is not what you are used to hearing (e.g., Born in the USA done as a slow blues song). That being said, the show was excellent. The venue is small, so it gives you the opportunity to experience seeing him in an intimate setting and enjoy the root of his music and who he is. It was worth the small fortune we paid for the tickets! After the show is over you are allowed to take photos, but they are very strict about no photos during the show.

The Walter Kerr Theater is a small, intimate venue and was perfect for Springsteen on Broadway! I was in the balcony and I had a perfect view of the stage. I laughed, cried and was captivated the entire 2 hours 20 minutes! If you get the chance to go, you won t be disappointed!

Do not go to this expecting a Bruce concert. This is a story telling acoustical evening of magic. I was blown away by the sentiment he brought and generated. 3 stars given due to cramped/tight seating. Also someone was thrown out of my show...drunk and cursing.

This was an amazing intimate journey through the life of Springsteen. It was 2 and a half hours filled with stories of how things came to be. It made you appreciate more about the songs from him you already love because now he shared the story behind the song. It was told by the storyteller that Springsteen is and his fans really got to see up close and personal who he really is. It was beautiful, intimate and powerful.

Hard to put into words this evening... One of the greatest storytellers and musicians of our generation. This show was a love letter to NJ, his parents, Clarence, and a journey through his life. I am truly privileged to have been able to witness it. Thank you Bruce- for making music that matters, music that stands the test of time, music that makes me feel something.

I love Bruce Springsteen s music, his lyrics, his care for and love of his fans. He is a heart-felt man who is living in each moment and isn t afraid to expound upon the everyday frailties of his life. To say that is fraudulent is a misnomer. Rather he is totally honest with us and more, himself. The show is so special. There are tears and laughter, confidence and confusion. It honors his family and THEIR lives as a result of having him in the family. Absolutely awesome.

If you like Springsteen, you'll love this show. Intimate venue. Bruce tells his life story in full disclosure of emotion, with two acoustic guitars, a piano ,a harmonica , a little assust from Patti, and much poetic narrative. The audience also shares the full rangevof emotion and with or without a band ,we discover, the Boss gives you your money's worth.

Bruce taught, played, talked for two and a half hours nonstop. This was a once-in-a-lifetime event. I have a question that applies to most Broadway theaters: If you are paying first-class prices for tickets, why are you jammed into tight, uncomfortable seats?

This show was unlike any EStreet show. It was so intimate- every seat was perfect. The audience was so respectful. He sang beautifully and played guitar and piano to perfection. His stories elicited laughter and some brought tears - awesome story teller. He looked well rested. He paid tribute to Clarence and others who have passed. So glad to have experienced this show.

In a nutshell, I scored the golden tickets in the Verified Fan lottery. Row A 105 & 106. Right in front of Bruce's mic stand. This is Willy Wonka's golden ticket x 2. A life time of listening, so many shows. A chance to listen to the soundtrack of my life, sung by the man himself less than 6 feet away and my wife next to me.......... and I was unable to attend. You don't need to know why, but suffice to say it was significant enough to stop me from flying to NYC from UK. I didn't scalp the tickets - Bruce fans don't do that. My friend had them at face value and he flew over with his wife. Two pictures attached. Yes it was the best night of his life. It was so nearly the greatest of mine................... If you can go - go. Me, I'm hoping the Karma looks after me!

This opportunity to see Bruce up close & personal was a once in a lifetime gift. Bruce gave his audience a small window inside to his true self. His stories were poignant & touching which gave deeper meaning to the songs he chose to share during his time on stage. I was especially touched by his sharing stories about his Mom & Dad. It was great to see the bond that he & Patti share as well.

Incredible show. Only Bruce can exceed the highest of expectations. The stories are funny, insightful, and moving, and provide a layered context to the songs. I first saw Bruce at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles in 1975. I feel like we've grown up together, and it's been a privilege to have him share his journey with us.

Friday March 23rd, what a night in NYC !! We flew in on the day from Dublin, Ireland and the excitement was palpable. An added bonus is to arrive early and wait for Bruce to pull up. Out he gets and greets his fans (Check out the pics) !! You never get that close, never mind coming through the 500,000 people lotto to get tickets to go inside with 700 others Inside, staff could not have been friendlier and there was just a good "spirit in the night". The show is just special, like a private dream, an out of body experience - we kept having to pinch ourselves we were there. 2 hours 15 minutes later & it was all over and out into the Manhattan night. Just telling people we were there made us like celebs, and being Irish we got free drinks, got to sing with a band and dance on Time Square !! Magical weekend in New York with the Boss & Pattu ! Thanks Walter Kerr, you'll never be forgotten

Bruce puts on just a phenomenal show. What a great mix of stories from his life, acoustic versions of some of his greatest songs, and others as tributes to the important people in his life. For those who have not yet read his autobiography, this show is like getting a small taste of each offering from a seven-course dinner. My wife attended with me - not a Bruce fan for decades like I have been - but at the end she said That was the best Broadway show I have EVER seen! Definitely worth the price, she added. :-) The only minor drawback of the night had to do with the venue. While the sound and sightlines and seating were excellent, the Walter Kerr theater was absolutely freezing. We had to put on our winter coats and snuggle together - no joke. Not sure what this was all about...it was if they had left all the entry doors open to outside. But Bruce s performance warmed us on the inside!!

This was one of the best nights of my life. Seeing Bruce in this atmosphere was truly amazing. He is such an amazing story teller. He talked about his childhood his parents his family & his E Street Family.. he sang & he played the piano, guitar & his hormonica .. no pictures allowed until the house lights come on & he takes his final bow.. bouns Patty came out & sang on a few songs with Bruce. I didn t get a code & was so sad then I got a text from Ticketmaster with a code & finally was able to just get 1 ticket row J lower level. Great location. I flew from Florida to see him!

This was a once in a lifetime experience. Bruce is truly such a talented man. He will go down in history as one of the best storytellers, songwriters and performers of our time. A true legend! I felt like Bruce was only talking and singing to me. It was the most intimate experience. Bruce poured his heart out on that stage. It was raw and just so moving and inspiring. I went to the show last Saturday night and I am still enjoying the awesome feeling I had as I sat there for over 2 hours with Bruce! Such an intimate show...enjoying his memories, sense of humor, music and of course his duets with his beautiful wife. The money was well worth the tickets! We were 4th row center orchestra and we felt as if we were at a private concert with one of the best rockers of all time! Simply spectacular!

A very special experience. The stories Bruce tells are profound. The manner in which he tells them is very moving. Bruce stands there and lets you take a peak inside his heart and his soul. His songs speak of dogged heroism in the face of life's gradual disenchantment. I feel blessed to be a recipient of this wonderful gift from Bruce to his fans.

What an incredible poet Bruce is! The show was a synopsis of his life. Acknowledging getting older and how the number of blank pages are not as numerous as they once were. But he intends to add pages to the book just as we all should. Very emotional show for Rudy and I especially that he ended the show by giving homage to his Catholic upbringing by reciting the Our Father. No band just a guitar and piano and an appearance by Patty. We will be writing more pages in our book. ❤️

Not the Springsteen shows you grew up with, but an intimate glance at the context of where his songs came from. Very moving. Many lessons here. It felt like a goodbye. Small venue is beautiful and perfect for this style show. I think the $75 ticket would be just as good as a pricier one. Not a place for kids or rowdy behavior.

I had high expectations going in- and the event was even better than I had expected. The theater is small and there really isn't a bad seat in the whole place. Bruce was , as usual, just awesome and he sounded great. I had read his book and in many ways this was a live version of many of his chapters. Outstanding. At the end- he pointed to the balcony and we saw a special guest- President Obama was in the house. Great night!

A breathtaking evening from start to finish. Fantastic seats at the front of the mezzanine with a perfect view of Bruce (and Patti) about 15m away. We laughed, we cried, we felt that we shared a very special and intimate moment with the man whose songs are the soundtrack to our lives. A magical evening for those lucky enough to have tickets.
