Purity Ring

PURITY RING IN CONCERT:Canadian electro pop duo Purity Ring deftly combines soaring melodies and shimmering atmospherics to create an etheral soundworld that consistely captivates ticket buyers. Frontwoman Megan James forms a direct connection with her audience in concert, relating tales of heartbreak with her sincere and pristine vocals. Producer Corin Roddick mans the swirling synths and blossoming basslines, creating a rich tapestry for James’ voice to float above. In addition to their carefully crafted interplay, the group also adorns the stage with illuminated decorations that move along to the melody.

This concert was amazing! Exceeded my expectations for Purity Ring. The hanging light show, crystal drums, bass level, outfits, everything blew me away. They really brought their best and I will definitely be seeing them again when they're in the KC area.

I saw purity ring in Columbus at the Newport music hall last week, and I can honestly say it was one of the most amazing nights of my life. The duo is brilliant onstage, and they held the audience in their magic spell for the entire set list. Megan James had a goddesslike stage presence, and her voice sounds exactly the same live as recorded. The array of round LED lights suspended in midair shimmered and pulsated along with her ethereal voice and cast her form into a dramatic silhouette. Corin stood in the middle of the stage, surrounded by a semicircle of glowing crystalline structures, which played different notes when he hit them with a drumstick. Purity Ring's electronic, witch-pop music is even more incredible when accompanied by the epic light show and the amplified beats shaking you to your core. I was very close to the stage, surrounded by equally enthusiastic fans, and we danced and belted out the lyrics until we were sweating and our throats scratchy. If you get a chance to see this band live, please do so. I promise it will be an awe-inspiring and unforgettable performance.

First of all just love their music in general. I really enjoyed the lighting concept. Very exciting show all around. They played their songs as they were performed on the albums which was fun to sing along with. I would totally see them again.

The night started off with HANA, someone new that most of us in the crowd hadn't heard of before, her set was beautiful and I've already bought all her stuff off of iTunes. She was lovely meeting everyone and taking pictures after the show. Purity Ring put on the best show I've ever seen. They have thought of every detail when it comes to their performance, the lights, the energy, the music... its a MUST SEE.

Braids - one of the opening bands was incredible!! Purity Ring is a great studio band. They create a wall of sound that fills you up and takes you for a ride. The fact that they are a duo makes for an interesting challenge to perform live. With one singer, and one musician, a lot of the sound is just a recording being played. To me, everything sounded just like the studio version of their music, which makes me wonder if anything was being played live. When Megan James climbs a ladder to hit the "gong" hanging high above the stage, the idea is for it to light up when she hits it - yet the light came on before the strike. Makes you wonder . . . The sound is great, fantastic clarity, and the light show is amazing, especially for a small venue. The light show itself makes for a fun experience.

This may have been the best live show I've ever been to. The stage lighting and decorations were awesome and both bands played great live sets. The venue was gret although we had to wait what felt like forever between the opener and headliner (it was close to 40 minutes I think). Before the headliner played, a group of about 20 kids pushed all the way through the crowd and cut right in front of everyone in the front row. They were being very rude and pushy and everyone around them became very pissed, which made me nervous that it would cause some sort of brawl. Apart from that, everything was awesome and I will definitely be back! One other thing to request of fans is to not use the flash on their camera right in the performers faces. Also it's very annoying when 50 people in front of you have their phones blocking the view while they are taking videos instead of enjoying the moment.

The band was very good. The light show alone was worth the price of admission (a reasonable $8). The singer was not very strong, but overall the music was definitely enjoyable. The biggest factor in this event was the venue. This duo clearly needed to be playing a bigger venue. Jackpot "Music Hall" is somewhat misleading, as the place is not even large by bar standards. The crowd was crammed in front to back. Since Purity Ring has played the Pitchfork Music festival and other large venues, it doesn't seem like that would be unreasonable. Also, the show did not start until 10, with the headliner going on at midnight. It didn't bother me at all, but it was different.

I love Purity Ring and I will continue to support them. But, until they start playing real shows, that is, shows that are at least an hour and a half long, I will not be going to any more of their shows. I hate to give them a bad review because what the perform is good. But when you have to wait over twice as long for them to come out as the actual "show," then it is a no. So sorry.

Considering they are an electronic band, you expect the music to sound identical to their albums, which it does. The singing though, is typically not spot on. Purity Ring really knocks it out of the park here. She sounds almost exactly the same live as she does on recordings. I was absolutely blown away with how great their stage presence was!

Ive been waiting to see Purity Ring for a long time and while their music didn't disappoint their personalities did; at least for one member of the group (Roddick). James tried at least twice to talk to the audience and Roddick cut her off, even so far as to interrupt her mid sentence to start the next song, giving the impression that he didn't even want to be there. I'll still listen to their music but won't go see them live again. It lowered the energy of the event-something that instead should go hand in hand with their song.

Stunning, captivating, danceable, dreamy... I expected the show to be good. It was amazing! Megan s voice, moves and style simply sparkle and Cornin s electronic soundscapes make you float while you dance. The very friendly crowd seemed to absorb every bit of the performance, pressing against the balcony to see. Purity Ring draws you in. Their lyrics are rich, mysterious and romantic. Lovely concert!

The lighting in this show is amazing. They know that electronic music by itself isn't much to look at, so they have used some rather simple tools to turn any stage into a Kaleidoscope of awesomeness. I'd see this show again and again and probably never get tired of it. My only negative is the voice volume levels weren't balanced well with the instrumental volume levels, but that was likely a venue issue, not a band issue.

Purity Ring's music is great and I was totally psyched to see them play live for the first time but unfortunately they didn't even live up to half expectations. Here's the main gripes: 1) Show was only 45 minutes long. 2) Zero crowd interaction except for at the end when Megan James said "This is the last song, if you were expecting an encore this is it". ---Gimme a break, she had only sang for 45 minutes which in my book is just one short set which would have been fine if it were followed up by another short set. This wasn't a festival, this was her show, she wasn't up against a curfew, there was simply no excuse. The crowd was almost at sellout capacity and excited to see her but she did very little with that potential. I see live music at least once a week and I thought about giving this show a 1 star but the light show on stage is pretty cool itself. Megan has potential but she needs to play a bit longer, get the crowd involved, interact, show some energy.

Purity Ring put on a great show at House of Blues in Orlando this September. Also an excellent find in opening act Hana. Although she's just one person with a sound board, her arrangements and voice are fantastic and she had a great stage presence. Purity Ring also put on a fantastic show, with great arrangements and vocals. They're still a newer band so their set was short for an opening act (about an hour) and they don't do encores. Purity Ring is still weak in a few areas as a stage act...they haven't quite found the way to adjust to being, essentially, just two folks on a stage with a lot of prerecorded sound. But that's a minor quibble and they had their fans excited and eating out of their hands. Definitely worth seeing.

I've heard Purity Ring play clubs and festivals and had a great time. House of Blues felt very tame and contained. The acoustics sounded hollow for EDM, the vocals seemed to be having an off night, and the energy of the crowd was flat. Definitely catch Purity Ring but do it at a more relaxed venue.

I haven't been to a lot of concerts, but after attending this one I've already made plans to attend another. Purity Ring did a PHENOMENAL job. They played all my favorite songs live, direct, and with a twist. I knew the songs, but did't know what to expect. Finally, while the nerd in me was satisfied with the set, sound quality, singing performance, etc. it was also plain entertaining. Loved it.

It was a great show, with them playing many of their popular hits. However, the show clocked in at only 55 minutes. The opening band before them, Braids, in comparison, performed around 40 minutes. Unfortunately, Megan's vocals were coming a little bit too low in volume, being washed out by Corin's great, but loud, instrumentals. The stage setup was impressive with the lighting of their sets. Megan ended the show jumping into the crowd and bodysurfing. Then after she was back on stage, she and Corin waved to the enthusiastic crowd and exited stage left. Moments after, the lights in the theater turned on and they were playing music through the speakers, which seemed to catch people off guard because they were cheering for the band for an encore. Besides, they were the headliners and they hadn't even performed for an hour, and it would be about another 45 minutes for the "curfew" time for musicians to end their set. Some of the roadies came onto the stage and it looked like they were setting up the stage for an encore, but it became obvious that there would be no more music that night when Corin's glowing drum lights were covered with a blanket. Alas, time to go home. They had a great show, and the crowd was amazing in response, but I wish their show would have lasted a little longer. I think in the future I'll catch them at music festivals or in a lineup with other bands I like a lot, but maybe not in headliner act like the show that night.

Purity Ring put on a great show - as they have every time I've seen them - filled with great vocals, a beautiful stage, and engaging presence. Megan has the most incredible voice live, and Corin does his part as well as he possibly could. The two openers, unfortunately, were mediocre at best (I couldn't tell if it was their fault or the sound system's). The absolute worst part of the show, though, was the timing/organization. Born Gold performed for about half an hour, starting at around 8 PM. We waited for another half hour before Braids went on. Braids then played from 9-9:35 PM... and we waited more than another half hour before Purity Ring came on. They were on stage for just about an hour before they very abruptly said good bye and ran off stage... The audience thought there must be an encore, but then the house lights came on. What was that?! Never have I waited around at a venue between performers so much, and never have I had an artist just say "Bye!" and scurry off...

First of all, the Fox Theater is a great place for a concert. Small enough to where you feel like it is an intimate occasion, yet large enough to hold a substantial amount of people. Lights were awesome, theband was solid, the Fox Theaters' sound system isn't great and I feel like it should have been way louder! Set seemed kind of short though and I was totally bummed there was no encore, apparently the next day she told the crowd they "don't do encores". Get out there and play 2 more songs cmon! Judging by the fairly cheap price of the tickets, I didn't really think this show was going to be anything to write home about, but OH MY GOSH. IT WAS AMAZING. Their set was so elaborate and they used these really cool string lights that matched the beat of the music. It was probably one of the most well-crafted shows I have ever seen that wasn't in a sold out stadium. The lead singer's voice was effortlessly beautiful and crisp and they are both such wonderful performers. Terminal 5 is a great venue and suited their aesthetic.

I love Terminal 5 and highly recommend the venue to everyone. I also love Purity Ring, however they did not deliver at this particular show. Perhaps they were tired from playing 2 nights in a row, but I simply did not enjoy the performance and was rather bored. The openers were great, I enjoyed them, and as always terminal 5 provided and awesome venue. Born Gold was about as awful as Braids and Purity Ring were great. Like despite how awful they were I'm still giving it 5 stars and doing you a fave by telling you to go because both those ladies put on a *fantastic* performance. I do wish Purity Ring had done an encore, like there were a few songs I'd wish I'd heard and they were seriously killing it, it felt like they stopped prematurely, it would've put the show over the top (or if braids and purity ring did a song together that would've been neat). In any case go, go twice, I wish I had.

Purity Ring put on a pretty awesome show, and their openers (Born Gold, and Braids) were pretty fantastic, too. I do have to say that standing for a three band lineup at T5 on a Tuesday after working all day wasn't easy, but it was worth it. Purity Ring have obviously put a lot into their lighting design and it pays off. From the instruments, to the stage lights, to the psychedelic forest that covers a majority of the stage, the lighting design is beautiful and playfully captivating. My only complaint (other than the standing) would be the sound. While Megan James' voice is just as stunning as her studio recordings, there were a few songs where you had to strain to hear her at all\u2014"Stranger Than Earth" being one of them, which is a shame since it's one of my favorites from their latest album. That said, my luck with T5 continues on. Pretty much every show I've seen there (except La Roux) has been a night to remember\u2014Purity Ring included. Will definitely/hopefully be seeing them again soon.

Purity Ring's music is killer. That's obviously why I went to the show. But the performance was so apathetic and boring. Nothing exciting.
