The incredible band that McPherson has with him is the perfect backing to his amazing guitar work. The band hardly stopped to breathe as they tore through song after song, never letting the energy in the club subside. The sound was awesome and the crowd definitely fed off the energy. I could have watched JD wail on his custom TK Smith guitar all night. Also, started the night with dinner in the Teragram Cafe. Great food and a very cool and friendly staff working the bar there.

It's been said that JD McPherson's music "is engineered to revive your faith in rock & roll." It's true. What a great entertainer, great band, phenomenal music! Only complaint: the opening act (which wasn't good) played for an hour.

I had to attend this JD McPherson concert for a school project, it was by far the best school project ever! I hope they come back to town, because I will definitely go see them again! These guys really knew what they were doing!

I first got wind of J.D. last year. The former Oklahoma art teacher has been making waves in the rockabilly music world. J.D. writes, sings, and plays the guitar. Jimmy Sutton plays the upright bass and produced J.D.'s record, "Signs and Signifiers" (which originally came out on Jimmy's label "Hi Style Records". The band has now signed with Rounder and the CD has been re-released on that label). Alex Hall, who played drums on the record, was the keyboardist at this show. Additionally, there was a drummer and sax player. Opening the show was a delightful young band called "Lucius". Although J.D. is small in stature, he is a giant when he gets on stage. He is soft spoken, but can belt out a tune as well as any of the R&B greats from the 50s. The set consisted mostly of music from his record. J.D. has a unique approach to his music, mainly consisting of original tunes. It's got a retro and familiar feeling to it but with many modern touches thrown in. With J.D. and Jimmy at the front of the stage, it was non-stop excitement and energy. The size of the club was perfect because this band clearly was playing for the very appreciative crowd. J.D. McPherson has been getting rave reviews in music publications all over the world and will be appearing on Conan in June. If you get a chance to see this band.... DO IT!

Second time I've seen these guys perform and they did NOT disappoint. Raw, energetic talent and strait up FUN. They get down, they rock, they roll. Great venue for them I think- and the crowd's energy was awesome too- Only thing I'd say is it was a little cramped for dancing- which is a no brainer when you see these guys. We did anyway!!! If you don't feel like dancing at a JD McPherson show, you're clearly dead inside. LOVE this band, and great show.

This show was my third night in a row seeing JD McPherson Band. I can't get enough of these guys, whether live performances or recordings. An absolutely tight band, playing throwback pure Americana rock and roll. They literally do not have a bad song, across three albums and an EP. In concert, they're high-energy, friendly, and appreciative of the audience, with a polished-just-enough presentation. Next time they swing through my area, I'll be seeing them at every venue within reach, just like I did this time. This was my first time attending a show at the Teragram Ballroom and I am deeply impressed. It's small, but not claustrophobic, and the sound is absolute awesome, even when standing right up against the stage. The staff is friendly and helpful. I'll definitely come here again!

I got everything I bargained for. They were great live! Ended up going by myself and still had a ball. I have an affinity for seats and a disdain for pushy drunks who have no sense of boundaries but hey, that's rock!

He always puts on a good show. His band is incredilbe, led by jimmy Sutton. They ran through a great set that was heavy on the latest album, but still included a bunch of the old favorites. Nichole Adkins was the opener, and she was a delight.

Saw J.D. and the boys at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on Friday night. Awesome show. Retro Rock at its best. Tight, tight, band. One of the best live shows. Definitely recommend this band if they come your way.

If your looking for a great band to catch look no further. These guys tear it up with a genuine 50's retro sound. They are tight! Catch them while you can in a small venue. The $20 ticket could easily be $100 some day. Very cool scene

I think it's rare to be able to sense the musicians are enjoying the performance as much as the audience. The band wasn't faking appreciation; they truly loved playing and proved it by playing as long as they could without hardly taking a break.

Concert was good, but the acoustics seemed off. The band didn't seem super happy to be there - they had a bit of an edge when they first came out. I did enjoy myself, but not sure I'd go again. I think I might like listening to the CD just as much as seeing the live performance.

Sometimes artist do not always sound as good live as they do on record. Well that's not the case with JD McPherson and his band. JD is letting the world know that good time kick-ass Rock n Roll is still alive and sounding better than ever. The best thing about JD and his band is that you feel their love for vintage Rock n Roll. They aren't copying anyone. They are genuinely doing what they love. And it sounds amazing. JD performed with lots of energy and his band was tight. He comes back around this way again and I'm definitely seeing him again.

I saw these guys play at the Bell House in Brooklyn in the summer of 2014, and they tore the roof off the joint. Improbably, they were even better this time around, perhaps because the new record hasn't been out very long. The band members are all very skilled, and they've been playing together for some time, and they are sharp.

JD McPherson and gang absolutely tore it up! It's so inspiring to see people so passionate about their music. If you weren't at least bouncing along to that "sweet rock & roll," I'm concerned for your well being. I was so happy to be part of such a responsive audience especially learning that this was the opening show for their tour; McPherson thanked us profusely. Really, really spectacular performance!

Venue was great. Band even better! Thoroughly enjoyed Andy Paxon as well. He is a young, talented musician who is definitely going places. I'm not sure what I have to say about JD McPherson will do them justice. The band is PHENOMENAL! So nice to see the recurrence of Jazz, Big Band, Blues and Swing. Best live performance I have seen in years.

JD is a terrific songwriter and player, with a great voice and an ability to grab the backbone of old time rock and roll and give it a new shape. He's got a really good band - everyone is a standout, but his bass player absolutely has both the chops and the style. The only downside to the show was JD's persona. He never really looks like he is having a good time. He plays guitar like he is doing it because he can't hit anybody. He needs to learn that most of the members of an audience aren't going to have fun unless they see the performer having fun. That said - I would definitely go see him again.

My whole family were so looking forward to this performance. We were not disappointed...JD McPherson told the audience he was suffering from a cold - I cannot wait to see him - and his magnificent backing musicians when JD is fully fit!! I doubt any one in the audience noticed anything other than a VERY highly accomplished musician with a range of Genre that makes it very difficult for anybody to 'pigeon hole' him. The range was (I believe) Rock and Roll, Rockabilly, Country, Jazz, Swing - with a few more thrown in. He was exactly what I was expecting - AMAZING. Please come back to Toronto JD and bring all those musicians with you. The venue was also extraordinary - the feeling of closeness to the performers was amazing... If JD did have a cold - then we will all probably catch it!! This guy - and Jimmy Sutton are going to be huge. Take every opportunity to attend this performance - just to say one day that I saw JD when he was playing relatively small venues. I am counting the days until we next see him live.

On Fire! JD McPherson puts on one hell of a show. Stage presence, vocals, instrumentals, and energy were all top notch. The night opened with one great act, and finished with a bang so loud you'd think the 50's had already taken over! Can't wait to see JD again at the Minnesota State Fair.
