Graeme of Thrones

Graeme of Thrones

In this critically-acclaimed theatrical journey through the Seven Kingdoms, direct from sold-out shows in London’s West End, avid ‘Thrones’ fan Graeme just wants to recreate his favorite fantasy saga on stage – aided and abetted by his best friend Paul and the girl he used to fancy at school – Bryony. He doesn’t quite have the same budget as the TV show, or as many cast members, or the performance skills required, but he’s sure George RR Martin would approve – and that’s what matters. But when news reaches them that an influential theatrical producer is in the building, Graeme decides that this could be his big break – as long as nothing goes wrong…Created by a team of the UK’s top comedy writers, GRAEME OF THRONES is an original and un-authorized parody on the international phenomenon that is Game Of Thrones. A treat for fans and an introduction for the unenlightened.

First - unless you are a pretty big fan of the show do NOT see this. It won't be worth your time. Second - wait until the last minute then call the theater and get tickets at 50% off. I promise that the show is NOT worth paying full fare. The good: There are moments of real brilliance. About half the show is really quite good. Bryony was certainly the star, with Paul delivering some excellent moments. It was best when Graeme was not on stage at all. The bad: The overall structure of the show is ill conceived as a kind of pitch performance to potential investors. Whenever the show does this - and it comes back to it over and over again during the 90 minutes - it simply comes off as self serving, isn't interesting and is just lazy. So again and AGAIN, once we get going and are really starting to enjoy ourselves - Graeme stops the damn show and totally breaks up what would be a pretty good string of vignettes with yet another idiotic diatribe where he talks directly to us about investing in the show or the other cast members to remind them how important the night is to them. Graeme - STOP DOING THAT. It's a horrible idea and it just does NOT WORK. The opening was good. Then, that should have been the ONE AND ONLY PLACE where Graeme introduces the cast, does that cute bit about nudity waver, etc - and then DO THE DARN SHOW AND DON'T BREAK THE PERFORMANCE AGAIN. Graeme - in case you somehow think that I'm wrong then consider why there were nearly 400 EMPTY AND UNBOOKED SEATS tonight in Millville. And consider why your reviews are consistently all over the place. It's a clue - do it differently and give people what they really want. What we want are the stories and interpretations of scenes and characters. We most emphatically do NOT want you pretending this is some stupid pitch to a bunch of potential investors. Drop that concept and stick to doing cool creative scenes and you will have a real winner on your hands, fill a lot more seats and make more money and have a LOT MORE HAPPY CUSTOMERS. Unless you do, this will be a partially clever "one off", and no one will want to see it twice. A lot of people won't bother to see it once ... because they looked up the reviews. See the pattern? We are trying to help you - give us what we want. I'm doing you a favor - I'm being really honest. The parts that were good were really quite good - we just want more of that.

We had high hopes for this show since we were all Game of Thrones fans. I think there is potential in the subject, but the show needs a complete rewrite. The humor was not clever and relied on (forced) giggles about genitalia and such. Just not clever. We paid over $300 for our tickets and it was a complete waste. I rarely write reviews but felt moved to comment on this. Please shut down the show and rewrite.

This show was the worst one I've seen. Actually, I don't think I have ever seen a bad show on Broadway. As a big GOT fan, I was sorely disappointed. There were some laughable moments but overall this was a huge waste of money.

Terrific parody... a little baudy at times, but hilarious throughout. Great comedic actors that make you think of the great British improv comics of the past.

You definitely need to be a GOT fan for starters otherwise you are not going to understand what's going on. Secondly, you do not want to be an easily offended puritan, as there are plenty of crude sexual references. I'm a former Brit living in the US so I get the humour (note the u included here), but despite that, I still felt it struggled a bit in places.

After reading Hedy Weiss review in the Chicago Sun-Times I was nervous that the play would suck , but never fear... Hedy GoT it wrong! This show was fantastic. A member of our group had never seen the show or read the books and she had a good time as well. Lots of out loud laughs.

This show had some funny moments, mostly driven by shock value. The jokes were silly and most fell flat on an audience that was not prepared for the level of humor. It got too awkward for my group after an array of jokes didn't hit. We left at intermission. This is a funny show, just not worth the full price of admission. $15-20 per ticket is more reasonable.

The actors tried their best, but this show was a big "miss" for Broadway in Chicago. While it was silly and amusing at times, and occasionally funny, it was disjointed in its presentation. And, to be honest, not as well written as it should have been. I went on a week night, so the audience was about 2/3 full. At intermission, about a quarter to a third of the people left. Not a good sign. Also, when there was applause, it was weak most of the time. Everyone knew it was not a great show, but only the most hopeful stayed believing it would get better in the second half. It did, but not enough.

Without seeing the tv show there would be little humor in this play. With a three person crew I worried the story behind the parody might lack and it does. The play has it's funny moments but overall is lacking a strong foundation. Glad I saw it, wouldn't pay to see it again.

This is a Parody. It will make you laugh or you will leave during the intermission. You like British comedy? This is for you. I would recommend to some of my friends, others never. It's distasteful. And down-right nuts at points. I laughed, but I have a strange sense of humor. It's quite creative, but once was enough for me. I don't recommend this production for the older folks, 65 plus. Or the narrow-minded thinking . It's odd. It's that puzzle piece that just won't fit anywhere .

Gotta know the real show to appreciate the humor. But humor is not the big belly laugh but lots of funny bits. Show's humor is somewhat similar to A Fish Called Wanda, if you have seen that old movie. Lead player was VERY difficult to hear but the others were fine. Great venue for seating.

I really enjoyed it. The actors were hilarious and the story was well done. If you are a GOT fan, you will really appreciate the humor. My wife is not into GOT and she liked it... but she was lost quite a bit. She didn't get the inside jokes, but that is her fault. I would just tell people that if you don't know GOT, you need to at least prep a little, or it just won't make any sense.

If you spent a lot of time watching Benny Hill, Monty Python, and Dr. Who while growing up, you will enjoy this. Funny takes on Game of Thrones storylines, but the goofy actors and the British humor make the show. I enjoyed this, but my husband did not. He spent his childhood watching sports. Too bad for him!

I've seen about half a dozen episodes of Game of Thrones. I wasn't overly impressed but I knew it was a phenomenon so I pressed forward. I bought the tickets for my super fan girlfriend. I loved the play. The actors really put in a lot of work to make this particularly refreshing brand of comedy work. It wasn't typical; they had audience participation (at times the audience participated when it wasn't wanted lol) but it was fun. I enjoyed the play without having seen all of the series. Pleasantly surprised.

They kept the crowd engaged throughout the entire performance. It was easy to follow along if you've read the books or only watched the HBO show. It was interesting how it was preformed with only 3 actors.

This was not up to the standard of Broadway in Chicago plays. Although the three actors did a good job, the script, the costumes, the props, and the choreography were all sub-par for a downtown performance. This was more like a local high school putting on their parody of "Game of Thrones." When everyone in the audience is moved to the first 6 rows because no one is sitting beyond that, that's an indication of a FLOP. There were only about 90 people there; the theater holds over 500 people. We thought we were going to see the exemplary parody of the series but realized that we had bought tickets to the wrong play - should have been "Thrones," which has already moved on. There were two parodies on "Game of Thrones," and we bought tickets for the disastrous spectacle, "Graeme of Thrones," which had sub-par reviews.

I didn't see great reviews, but my wife and I are GOT Junkies, so we got tickets. We went with three friends and we all had a great time. We got upgraded to the second row because the theater was fairly empty for the Sunday matinee and it was definitely better up front where the actors interact with the audience. In one skit, an audience member was brought onstage. If you want sophisticated high brow theater, you will be disappointed. Think of this as second city meets GOT with British humor. It's not a story, but a series of skits. Silly, sometimes juvenile, often very clever how it's done with a blank set and some props, it's a romp through GOT season 1 and 2, parodying the major characters.

I never ever give negative reviews. I cannot stay quiet on this one. I left at intermission and wished I could leave sooner. They moved the 6 people sitting in the upper section to the front rows and the closer section was still half full. I knew that was a bad sign before it started. Disgracefully amateurish for the money they were charging.

This show was a complete waste of money. Not funny after the beginning. Cast was subpar. They barely covered any of the show and took time to do 'avant garde' regurgitation of food and period jokes. I highly recommend the show at the Apollo- go see that instead. We were too polite to walk out halfway but several people did.

There was very little about this show that was good. A few laughs here and ther but my husband and I felt it was a waste of our time. He opening scene was clever and then it went down hill from there. And the ham scene was just gross. Many people left after intermission.

First off....I have never watched Game of Thrones so most of the performance I had no real point of reference to what was going on. But that did not stop me from enjoying the performance. It was interesting in that it was two plays in one. First the parody of Game of Thrones but also the interaction of the actors as themselves. The play was enjoyable and kept my attention.

Some laughs but some parts I was just like...why did they go there? I'm no pride by any means but I felt some of the crude jokes were in poor taste and I'll never be able to look at ham lunchmeat again. I regret getting these tickets for my husbands birthday. Many people around me did not come back after intermission
