The 50th anniversary concert of Star Trek was filled with great music and outstanding video clips from the entire series. I'd go see it again and again!

It was well played and the video was good with several problems. There was a little two much of the actors speaking about the purpose of Star Trek as taken from the shows rather than enjoying the fine music. There was a recorded voice over that I presume was done my Michael Dorn and the at times the sloppy writing overwhelmed the message. Additionally several scenes were duplicated. The biggest problem was that the show missed a LOT of the fine music of Star Trek and her movies. Nowhere was the original original theme performed by a Theramin and a soprano singer: that itself would have shot this performance into the stars. Also a lot of the alien type music found throughout The Original Series such as the music from Orion Slave Girl from "the Menagerie" or its original footage from "The Cage." Also a lot of the fun music from movie "The Voyage Home" was never played from "Chekov's Run" to the whale songs and its celebratory music. I didn't, and I presume others didn't appreciate the long scene from "Enterprise" with Scott Bakula giving a long pep talk to his navigator. I know they wanted to include all the series, but this wasn't needed. Also where were all the Star Trek memorabilia that its predecessor the Star Wars music experience offered the audience. My girlfriend and I arrived early by only 30 minutes and the vendors selling t-shirts weren't yet set up and by the time we left right after the show, they had closed down. I would have loved to have bought a t-shirt or a program (didn't even know if they offered a program). Credit due to the orchestra and the director. But this was more an afterthought to the Star Wars musical experience from a few years earlier. Overall execution failed me and I can only offer it two stars. BTW, I have loved Star Trek ever since I was born which was September 1966 the same month and year that Star Trek first premiered. As a life long fan, I was entertained but not that OMG overwhelmed sensation that a listener should get. That I get with its music that I hear from my CD's I've bought years and decades past that present their music so much more entertainingly.

This was an excellent orchestral event with video enhancement. The Czech orchestra did an excellent job and, although I would have preferred a larger ensemble, they had a great sound. They made it sound like the original soundtrack almost all of the time. The clips from all eras of television and the movies were excellent and often times funny. They did jump around a little more than I would have liked, but they tended to follow a theme. If you expect to hear the original theme at the beginning, don't worry when you don't get it. It's the encore. I saw the Star Wars version of this a few years ago and that was much better, but it did have the real C3P0 as the MC. Bottom Line: Go See It! It's Good!

In the Decatur area this event was poorly advertised. My family is a big fan of Star Trek. Informaton was very skimpy as to the contents of this program and the ages it was aimed at. 4 of us drove 2 hours to see a program that was actully a children's program. One of our group got bored and walked out. My teenaged children did get some amusement in nit picking some of the information in it. The program may have been very good for childrn 6-10 years old or so, however, not what we had hoped for. The advertising should have been more specific in the age it was targeting and the type of program it was.
