Mr Big launched a small US tour before the release of their latest album, Defying Gravity, which was recorded in only six days. Playing crowd favorites and new songs, every moment was jaw dropping. Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan proved again why they are so copied and emulated as musicians. Drums were covered mostly by Matt Starr, who has been a welcomed addition to the band. Pat Torpey (the original drummer) was also on stage playing drums and singing. Despite suffering from Parkinson's disease, Pat still rocked all night with a smile on his face and the band showed how much the love, appreciate and still need him on stage with them. Eric's voice still cuts through the entire mix. Does this guy even age? Speaking of the mix... Wow! The tour crew had the best sound in house sound I've ever experienced at an indoor venue! I didn't have to wear my ear plugs and I could hear everything clearly with lots of low end. The only complaint I have is with the venue and lack of air conditioning. The portable units they have don't seem to be able to keep up with a packed house. On a minor note, you had to have a VIP sticker to see the band, who normally love to hang out after the show and talk with their fans (especially Billy Sheehan). The food and drinks were great. And the fans... I met several other Mr Big fans while I was there, thanks to posts on social media before and after the concert. Mr Big definitely found a way to defy gravity!!!

What do you expect, guys , ha ? Of course they did outstanding performance. Their ties are tight as ever plus Matt Starr did excellent job for the band since original drummer , Pat Torpey has a condition. But after said that, Pat did amazing performance, he played more numbers behind the kit than their last tour, and their famous cover number, The Who's ' Baba O'Riley' was just outstanding. They answered their individual interviews that they are hoping performing more in 2017 and maybe with a new studio album. So guys watch the space, Mr.Big is back Again!!!

Better known worldwide for soft-hearted late 80's hits like "To be with You" & "Just Take My Heart", however, Los Angeles based supergroup Mr. Big still serves up a huge Porterhouse sized serving of rip-roaring hard rockin' anthems designed to get fans up out of their seats and on their feet with fists in the air. Known for their dynamic musicianship and ability to put together some of the most blistering guitar (Paul Gilbert) & bass (Billy Sheehan) solos seen anywhere in rock & roll along with extremely powerful but melodic vocals from super soulful singer Eric Martin, altogether the band seems to always be ready to deliver the goods in concert! This was definitely the case at The Rose in Pasadena (CA.) on 9/29/2016!!!

When it was announced that the original members of Mr. Big were getting back together and that the tour was starting in Hollywood (Los Angeles), I bought tickets IMMEDIATELY! April 2011 is my 40th birthday month and I couldn't think of a better way to spend it than with one of my all time favorite bands! All four members have been and STILL ARE expectional artists! Eric Martin's voice along with his enthusiasm for his craft is UNMATCHED! Listening to and watching Billy Sheehan on bass is an out of body experience! Paul Gilbert on guitar brings PURE JOY to the heart of any guitar lover! Pat Torpey on drums holds the whole dynamic group together with perfect timing and pure rockin emotion! My friend and I were SO IMPRESSED and thankful to have made the treck from the bay area to be witness to this powerful unity of pure fun and incredible talent together again! I guarantee that if you attend this show, you will be impressed no matter what your favorite genre of music is! Mr. Big has IT! They are better than ever and I LOVE IT!!

I never thought I'd live to see the day Mr. Big would reunite and actually play a date in the USA again. What a thrill for my youngest son to be there! He literally cut his teeth to Mr. Big, being barely one year old when "Mr. Big" was released, and eight when Paul left the band to concentrate on his solo career. In fact, I alone in our party of five that night actually had seen the band back in the day, when they opened for Rush on the "Presto" and "Roll the Bones" tours. The first time, I had no idea who they were but was completely won over. By the time I saw them on the latter tour, "To Be With You" was a #1 hit. A lot of music has passed under the bridge since 1996, and the "industry" has changed--largely for the worse, I say. Today, cheese and sleaze reign, and virtuosic acts that once filled arenas and stadiums in the USA are fortunate if they can sell out the House of Blues. Which says way more about fickle fans here than it does the band or its music. Thank God for the Japanese! For it has been the fans in Japan (and Mr. Udo and Massa Ito, saint's be praised) who have kept the tribal fire burning while jaded Americans were burning out. I was not surprised to see a fair number of Japanese and other Asian fans in Mr. Big's HOB audience, as I have for every club date by Paul Gilbert and Racer X in the last decade or so. And now, Europe and South America seem to be catching on, too. The show: Astonishing, from start to finish, and so many encores I lost count. The "old stuff" sounded fresh, and the new songs from "What if ... " were as tight as though they had been performing on the road for months. Eric Martin was in a ZONE, singing with the power and projection of his younger self and the voice of experience planted firmly in the present. The band's trademark and often complex harmony vocals were spot on. I don't know what age-defying elixir Billy Sheehan, Paul Gilbert, and Pat Torpey have been taking, but I want some, too. Whew! Individually, they amaze. Collectively, they achieve the near-impossible. As President John F. Kennedy might have said of them "Mr. Big chooses to do things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard." Amen! I'm of the opinion that "What if ... " is the band's best album, and if it was their ONLY album it still would rank as one of the finest rock records ever. In another time and place, songs such as "All the Way Up" and "Stranger In My Life" would be massive hits that would establish the band's reputation and perhaps be as career-defining as "To Be With You." Here's hoping Alice Cooper and Dee Snyder will give these tunes, and "Undertow," a spin on their syndicated radio programs soon. Someone influential needs to give this band the attention they deserve and the credit they have earned. I want the opportunity to see Mr. Big again, here in the USA. And if that day should come, then I'll know Mr. Big truly has arrived.

It only took 'em fifteen years to return to their own country, but Saturday night's show was probably worth the wait! These four fabulous musicians were obviously filled with the positive energy that the start of a tour brings, as their excitement at being on stage together was apparent. How a bass guitar can take the abuse that Billy Sheehan inflicts and still function is beyond me! I can't understand why they won't perform in their home country any more than they do. I came all the way from Augusta, Georgia, and met folks in line that had come from Louisiana, New York and Canada! Surely this loyal a fan base can justify their playing some sub-5,000 seat venues around the U.S. I certainly hope the boys take the joy that their American fans displayed Saturday night to heart and make an effort to play all across North America in the near future.

The drums were overpowering. They literally drowned out a lot of the guitar work. Vocals were hard to understand. Between the bass of the drums and bass guitar it was too much for the treble of the guitar to compete with. Venue was small but very nice, no need to have a band that loud in a theater that small.

I knew, going into this show, that they didn't have a ton of popular material to pull from. I hoped that the audience interaction would be good and that the new songs would be worth listening to. Not only are the new songs poor, the audience interaction was lame. Hey Eric Martin, Bret Michaels is a bigger star than you and he high fives the audience and gets them involved. Skip this show...Mr. Big should be opening for other bands, not trying to fill 2 hours with below average material.

Mr. Big has been on my live music Bucket List for a lot of years, but I always seemed to miss them, for whatever reason. I was given tickets for my 55th birthday, and they were worth the wait, and then some. They hit all the well known hits, while also playing the newer stuff. This band is tight and on it note after note. We did not sit down for their entire set. If you have not yet seen them, do not miss the opportunity.

Great show, Great venue, lax security. Aisles as far back as ro FF became a moshpit. Security would ask people to clear th aisle, they would just return at the beginning of the next song. No need to buy good seats. Unless you are in the first two rows you can't see anything.

Mr. Big are a really interesting combination of musical nerds/tuneful songwriters/gifted performers. I say musical nerds because these guys are all so talented that its amazing to watch - and they do give in to musical over-indulgence occasionally - but they are just so gifted its hard to do anything but shake your head and say Wow! The second accolade is more difficult to come by, as there are many really skillful musicians out there - but a much smaller number that can overcome the need to play on overdrive 100% of the time and crank out some really catchy, simple and tuneful songs. Mr. Big does this. The final attribute is an ode to people who can still look like they're having a blast onstage, and take everyone in the audience with them on the journey. Great show, and I would see them anytime they come to town. Extra kudos to the band for being so supportive of band member Pat Torpey - that made me smile and brought a tear to my eye in the same moment. Well done!

It was awesome overall. There were several people who were constantly taking photos, like, every minute I'm not kidding, which was super annoying because of the distracting bright light from their cell phone screens. But I kind of ignored them. The location of the place was good. It was warm.

I was lucky enough to see Mr. Big on their Lean Into It Tour, as well as the Bump Ahead Tour, so they had a lot to live up to, in my opinion. I must say that while the show was scaled back somewhat, the old energy and musicianship were the same as ever. I was blown away by the high caliber performance Billy, Paul, Eric, and Pat were still able to put on, as well as the song choices. I felt the set list was perfectly balanced, and the you could tell the camardarie on stage was genuine. The new album is phenomenal, and the live show was fantastic. I recommend anyone who is a fan of this band to definitely go. If you are unfamiliar with the band I would say go see them, and you will get a show that will NOT pale in comparison to their heyday.

For the month prior to this concert, I have been listening to all Mr. Big's discography! Not only did it bring back so many great memories of my childhood, but the new album is amazing. I anticipated the band to play the majority of their new album with a few song peppered in from the early 80s. The band blew me away! They opened with Daddy, Lover, Little Boy! What a way to start the show!! Happily, they played an amazing mix of old and new and rocked each and every song. Sheehan and Gilbert had solo after solo and blew my ears off! True legends of that era! The balcony seats were A M A Z I N G! From now on, I will pay for these seats as the price is only a couple of dollars more and WELLLLLLL worth the price! Right over the stage!

I am a professional musician with the U.S. Army and not easily impressed. Yet, I can easily say, Mr. Big was awesome. This was the greatest rock concert I have ever been to. I have always been a Mr. Big fan since the first album. I never got a chance to see them before they quit touring. Therefore, I was elated to find out that they were doing a U.S. tour. Me and my wife drove 650 miles from Alabama to Texas to see Mr. Big (I was not going to pass up an opportunity to finally see my favorite rock band live), and it was more than worth it. Not only are Eric, Pat, Paul and Billy incredible musicians, they are great entertainers. The new album is great, and I hope they continue recording and touring (hopefully they'll tour closer to Alabama next time).

This is only the second time I have seen the band live. The first time was back on the very first tour. Obviously this time there was much more material to cover and they did not disappoint. The musicianship is always top caliber, yet they manage to not take theirselves to serious and have fun with the fans. So many great moments all through the night. How bout at the end of the night, after all the great songs, they started the encore with Paul on drums, Billy singing, Eric on guitar and Pat on bass for Smoke On The Water, and changed places again, this time Pat singing, Eric on Bass and Billy playing a fantastic bit of guitar. This was a birthday present to myself, what an incredible night.

Good venue. Never had waitress service at a gig before. ForeverFalls were ok for a support band. Mr Big were on fire for the first half of the show. I hear a but coming. There is. Far too many solos. Guitar & bass. Mr Big have enough great songs to avoid doing this. Good encores . First time I've seen any bands change instruments like they do. Mr. Big never quite reached the level of stardom in America that they have in Japan and other countries. Their debut album and subsequent release, which featured the HUGE hit single "To Be With You", came at a time when the hard rock of the 80s was dying to the new grunge wave of the early 90s. Mr. Big only had four dates in the U.S., New York was the 3rd stop. They do have an extremely loyal fan base and when we do have the opportunity to see a show here, we all come out for it. B. B. King Blues Club was sold out, with fans coming from around the world. I met people from all across America, Germany, Japan, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Their drummer, Pat Torpey, was diagnosed with Parkinson's last year and has not been able to play the entire set list, so Matt Starr has been helping with the drum duties. We were all pleased that Pat is doing well and was able to play on quite a few songs. When he wasn't playing the full drum set, he had a smaller set right next to Matt's that he played while singing backup. Matt is a very capable fill in and I was very happily surprised and delighted by his addition to the band. Mr. Big has never disappointed me in the past and this show was no exception. They came out rocking hard and fast and didn't stop until they were forced to leave the stage because there was another show after theirs. Umm, what the hell BB Kings? The audience sang along, danced, and cheered to all the songs, every song is a favorite! Eric knows how to work the crowd, he is a magnetic front man, and didn't fail to make everyone feel like they were part of the Mr. Big family. You know he loves to be up there performing, it's evident in everything he does and every song he sings. He would give the same performance for 5 people or 5000. Time has only improved his vocals and he sounds better than ever. Highlights for me were Billy and Paul's solos, both so technically masterful that you couldn't help but be breathless, The Monster in Me, and East/West. Both are songs off of their new album. Who am I kidding, the whole show was a highlight!

What a great show! Once again, Mr. Big did not disappoint as they entertained the NYC crowd with songs from their latest CD ("...The Stories We Could Tell"), as well as the classic hits! I'm not a big fan of general admission/standing room only shows, and wish the would play venues like NYBC Westbury or the Beacon, but BB Kings was packed! So Mr. Big would definitely draw the crowd. However, if you were lucky enough to get close to the front of the stage, Billy, Paul, Eric, Pat and Matt were sure to make you feel like you were part of an intimate show. It's been 3 1/2 since the last NYC show, and 20 years before that, so I can't wait for them to come back to the New York area again!!

I never got to see Mr. Big live during the late 80's and 90's when they were still touring the U.S. After Paul left in 1998, and then the overall break-up in 2002, I came to believe I would never see them live. When I heard of the reunion and the Budokan tour in 2009, I quickly bought the DVD/CD set and couldn't believe how great they still were. But again, seeing only Asia and Europe tour dates, I felt I still would never see them live. I found out about the BB King's show the week of my birthday - so what a great present!!! Back in the NYC area after 20 years!! We were right up by stage and the band was AMAZING!!! One of the best shows I've ever been to! I had my 15 and 12 year old sons with me who were totally blown away and have become the newest Mr Big fans!! Thanks Billy, Paul, Eric and Pat for an unforgettable night! I'd been a Mr. Big fan since the beginning. I had their first cd when it came out and enjoyed them ever since (up until Paul Gilbert left.) Sadly, I never got the chance to see them live, back in the day. When I heard the original line up had reunited, I knew I had to get out and see them live. It was worth the 20+ year wait. They were AMAZING live. It really came as no surprise. Each member is virtuoso at their instrument. As a bass player myself, I made it a point to stand right in front of Billy Sheehan: to watch, study, and learn. The set list was a good mix of all the "classic" songs I waited so long to hear, along with the new material from their new cd "What if..." (also worth picking up) I would absolutely tell anyone that's a fan of Mr. Big that they should get a ticket and enjoy the ride.

Aside from that, the concert was phenomenal. Could not have asked for a better show. Plenty of classics, plenty of new songs. Tons of energy, very crowd-friendly, tons of fun. The last time Mr. Big toured the U.S. with the original line-up was way back in 1996 (or around there let's just say it's been a loooong time coming). The wait was well worth it an almost 2 and a half hour show went down quick and flawlessly. The show started with the opening act the Dirty Pearls who played a slow building set who by the end were well accepted by the crowd. If you get a chance check out some of their music on iTunes. Mr Big took the stage just before 9 p.m. and ripped into "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy (The Electric Drill Song)" right from the start everyone in the audience were singing right along to all the songs even ones from CD's I didn't think most people owned. It's the first time in a long time that when a band started playing a new song that the audience didn't sit on their hands. People in the audience sang along with the new tunes as well. All the great songs were played they included (this is just a small list of the 19 or 20 songs they played) Green-Tinted Sixties Mind, Alive & Kickin', Take Cover, Just Take My Heart, Road To Ruin, Price You Gotta Pay, To Be With You, Colorado Bulldog, Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple cover), Shy Boy (Talas Cover). The show was over way to soon (about 2 hours and 20 minutes plus a 30 minute set by the Dirty Pearls). Well worth the $25 ticket price. One final thing if they are in your area do yourself a favor GO SEE THEM!!!!!! Oh yeah, While waiting for the show Eric Martin walked right by the entire line and I was the only one who knew who he was, see it's been way to long since they have toured the states.

This was my first concert in a few years and I was very excited to see the original MR.BIG line-up. I had been a fan of Paul and Billy since their days in Racer X and Talas, respectively. As I left the Alrosa that night, I realized that I had just witnessed THE greatest rock concert that I had ever experienced. The opening acts Karma10 and Dirty Side Down were both good warm-up acts. Karma performed several covers and a few original tunes (which I always appreciate). DSD were more of a straight-forward cover band--lots of Metallica, Megadeth, Maiden, and the like. Lynch Mob gave us a somewhat lackluster performance, which was surprising considering the caliber of entertainer that George Lynch is. He never once made eye contact with the crowd, drummer was brand-new, and the vocalist often referred to the lyric book that he had hidden behind the monitors. Perhaps a few more months of practice and Lynch Mob will be back up to their former glory. MR.BIG performed for the small crowd as if we were in a sold-out arena. I've seen most of their 2009 Budokan video and they showed the same energy, regardless the size of the crowd. Their set list included everything from "Addicted to the Rush" to "Undertow" and even a little "Smoke on the Water." No one dared to leave after their final number, because they shortly came back for a five-number encore. My two teenage sons felt that this was one of the greatest nights of their lives. Shortly after the show, Billy and Eric came out into the parking lot and signed autographs, took pictures, and even passed out some candy because "the show was so long that our blood sugar may be a little low." Both of these guys are super nice and very down to earth. My son mentioned to Billy that this was his first concert and Billy immediately went into the memories of his first rock show, Jimi Hendrix. Overall, this show will never be forgotten and I truly cannot wait for these four excellent musicians to come back to Columbus, Ohio.

Lynch Mob - Terrible!! George will never see big stage again. I was in front row right in front of Lynch, and he never made eye contact with crowd. Drummer was brand new and vocalist was still so new that he had a lyrics book for every song. As soon as last note was played, George walked off stage. Mr. Big - Fantastic!!!!! Between master bassist Billy Sheehan and shredder Paul Gilbert, they could not have been more entertaining!! They continually played off each other and gave the kind of performance that should be in an arena. When show was over, Billy Sheehan was shaking people's hands thanking them for coming. Night and day difference between him and Lynch.

Mr. Big Performance was 100% Quality, no doubt that, Great musicians, however they seemed to have issues with the lighting ,whoever was in charge of lights had no idea what he was doing, they also had some issues with the Microphones, too low. The worst part was the Crowd, it seemed pretty much dead,no cheering, no yelling, no interaccion with the band and sometimes Rude..........Horrible crowd.

Mr Big played an awesome concert at the House of Blues Sunset last Saturday. This band features one of the best bass/guitar combos ever with Billy Sheehan on bass and Paul Gilbert on guitar. They showed their chops well during the 2-hour show. Some less-than perfect vocals on the new material, which I assume will work itself out as they tour.

Mr Big has been a favorite band of my wife and I since their first album! Martin, Gilbert, Sheehan and Torpey are top notch musicians that write amazing songs and out on an awesome show! From the opening song Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy (The Drill Song) through "Alive and Kickin", Green Tinted Sixties Mind, Take a Walk to the awesome "Addicted to the Rush" up to the "Baba O'Reilly" encore, these guys are a non stop rock and roll force to be reckoned with! Still in top form!! Also, the waiter Monte was fantastic! He took care of my wife and I and I would go back to B B Kings in NYC just for him! A fantastic night all around!

Third time seeing Mr. Big in 6 years at BB Kings and they did not dissapoint! They played a blistering set mixing in their classic hits with more recent tunes and two new tracks from their upcoming studio album "Defying Gravity". One of the tracks is properly named 1992 and it takes you back to when the band scored their #1 single "To Be With You". It really is a treat to watch these guys perform live. Please keep touring!

First of all, the Potawatami Casino Northern Lights Theatre is the BEST place to see a show in Milwaukee. Small, intimate & not a bad seat in the house. After 30 years Mr. Big is STILL together & still an incredible live band. Like Extreme, Mr. Big were lumped into the "hair metal" catagory when they really were not a hair metal band. This is a band of 4 superstar musicians including bass guru Billy Shean & guitar wiz Paul Gilbert. Led by the amazing vocals of Eric Martin, Mr. Big were at the peak of popularity in early 90`s. As alternative music took over the band continued to tour & release new product. Their popularity overseas is unquestioned!! They can still cut it live!! 18 songs, they played almost 2 hours & exhibited amazing musicianship. Sure the hair is shorter but the songs still hold up. Eric`s vocals are still top notch. I appreciate they still include original drummer Pat Torpey in the show. He has worked his way thru medical problems but simply cannot handle a whole show. So they include him on a handful of songs. We were lucky enough to see the FIRST show of 2017 tour. They included one new song which was awesome. I`m 50 years old...I lived thru the 80`s and this tinted mind still thinks Mr. Big rocks!!

I've always been a big fan of this band & this was probably the 5th time I've seen them. I'm also a HUGE fan of Paul Gilbert & his amazing guitar playing. As far as this show went, when they were "playing songs" they were fantastic. The problem was how much time they spent "not" playing songs. Between Eric Martin belting out these stupid melodies for all of the drunk people to sing back to him. Then (& ya I know it's Mr Big but) come on, a BASS SOLO, just shoot me already. Nuff said there. Gilbert's playing was great as always but, where did this constant barrage of stupid faces come from? Paul was always one of my favorite performers to see live whether it was in Racer X, mR bIG, or on those G3 tours but, now he looks so ridiculous that I can't even stand to look at him. Bottom Line, Their 1st 2 tours when they were all business & hungry were their prime. Now, not so much..

Overall experience was fantastic! The venue is a medium-sized one holding about 200-300 people that night. The audience was clean and sober, unlike some other shows where people were smoking apparently and losing control... Back to the band, Paul and Bill's solos really made my day. Although I haven't really listened to their songs before the show, I was very much amazed by their live performance with their mastery skills in rock music and their solo tradings!

The one reason I even know about Mr. Big is because of guitar beast Paul Gilbert, who has been an idol of mine and inspiration for my continued practice on the instrument. After delving into their music, I began to see that the band was more than just a band with a good guitarist. Sure, they have one of the most technically capable guitarist and likely the most technically capable bassist, but that doesn't define the band. They all bring their virtuosity into the table to create a combined experience that's meant to amaze. Its all the more obvious when you see them live, and during their show in B.B. Kings, they displayed enormous amounts of energy and life, while playing their songs to perfection, even better than the studio versions perhaps. You can tell how much fine they're having with it, and that in turn adds onto your own experience with it. Time hasn't slowed these guys down at all, in fact, it gave them the chance to mature and become even more creative in the way they view music composition. Would certainly pay triple to see the again, though hopefully I wouldn't have to!

A friend of mine saw Mr. Big a week ago in Buffalo. When he head I was going to the show in Foxboro, he warned: "Get ready to get your face rocked off." I took it with a grain of salt, but boy, was he right on the money! I'm not a huge Mr. Big fan, or wasn't, but love their music and I love the Showcase Live venue. I asked another friend to come along with me and we were both blown away! Billie is the best bass player I have EVER seen, and that is saying a lot as I go to live shows often. The boys still have it, they authentically love what they are doing and it all came out in pure, hard, in your face rock n roll and blues. I can't wait to see them again!

I admit this was my first time seeing this band. And I am regretting not having seen them "back in the day". This is one amazingly talented band. Wednesday's show at Showcase Live in Foxboro was very easily one of the top 1,2,3 shows I have ever seen in my 45 years. I knew Billy was the man from his DLR days, saw him with DLR at what was then Great Woods, back in the day. But my GOD, Paul, Pat and Eric are equally as impressive. Just 100% class all the way. This is how it's done, world. Inspiring Rock and Roll acts need look no further for a model. The music scene has sorely missed their soulful, jazz/funk inspired Rock and Roll, and the class with which this band handles themselves. I am so glad to hear melodic rock and roll for a change. And you know something? Their stage energy and obvious LOVE for their respective crafts was easily transferred to the crowd. I loved seeing them in the setting of Showcase Live, you could actually see the band and interact on a much more personal level. I would have thought Mohegan Sun Arena for a band like that. Still think they could fill that venue. But I am thankful I got to see them in that small type of setting. And I hope, hope, hope, they come back. I look forward to seeing them again to see how they top this. And I must say the switch of personnel during "Smoke on the Water" was nothing short of jaw-dropping. Paul Gilbert, brother, I am a drummer of 35 years, and I don't think you hit a rim, or missed a fill. Well done, lad, well done. All around HUGE kudos to the band, and to Showcase Live. Keep on keepin on boys, "see you when I get out!"

Great to see the boys enjoying themselves on stage like the old days. The performance was as solid as I expected - great technical execution. Big problem - the sound was terribly unbalanced. I was standing literally in front of Paul and all I could hear was bass. This is the most talented group of musicians/singers I have ever heard live and I am 59 years old and have seen everyone that is good! Drummer: Great, Singer :Great, and then there are the giants among giants.....Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert!!! It doesn't get better than these two ! They play as well as anyone in the world and sing great harmony and are at ease with either doing solos or blending in as a band member. That is what was key for me. These guys could do a G3 type thing and turn around and do a band thing also. They are just great musicians! BB King Blues Club is one of my favorite venues to hear bands as it is intimate yet the NY City Crowds really rock and support the bands there! The Mr. Big show was the best show I've seen there in 10 years. Mr. Big is back together and playing better than ever. They look as if they are really enjoying themselves this time around. Played close to 3 hours. Don't miss this band! You will not hear better players anywhere! And 4 part harmony (flawless) is great to hear also. Most people know Mr. Big for that one ballad that was inescapable on the radio years ago. What they don't know is that Mr. Big is comprised of some of the best musicians ever to live. Guitarist Paul Gilbert and bassist Billy Sheehan really shred, drummer Pat Torpey effortlessly keeps the beat while displaying his technical prowess, and singer Eric Martin, while age has shortened his range, still can belt it out with the best. Eric has an incredible voice that's so soothing yet so rocking at the same time. It truly feels like they're all having fun out there - and the crowd interaction was wonderful. They ripped through a lot of their notable songs including many from the new album, What If. "To Be With You" was definitely the anthem of the night, but Addicted to that Rush was amazing, and the encore is so amusing with them switching instruments. BB King's venue is pretty neat - underground in New York City. Standing room only always is tough for the vertically challenged, but I was able to be a few rows of people from the action. You just gotta get there a little early, and establish a position away from the Tall Persons Club. They're all so good at their instruments, I almost quit music right on the spot. If you're a fan of Mr Big, then you will not be disappointed. If you're unfamiliar with their music, you will at least be able to appreciate the dynamic melodies, spot on harmonies, and incredible musicianship of the band. They're definitely worth seeing once in your life.

First off, Paul & Billy are great musicians but just didn't come off as a band. Way too much jamming and solos. I like to see straight rock & roll. Play the songs and play them great which they definately did not. Just rock, these guys wanted to show how great they played individually. Solo after solo after solo, I think they may be still soloing and it's two days later. I can't stand when a band does this. If I wanted to see musicians solo, I would have gone to Steve Vai, Satch or even Dream Theater... Basically now I know why I didn't care for these guys in the 80's

If Paul Gilbert performs in your town, I totally recommend going to see him. He is one of the best guitar players in the world in my opinion. The stage was kind of high, and I was not impressed by the opening acts. But it was all worth enduring to see Mr. Big and hear Paul perform live. There was a moment when everyone switched instruments to play a cover of Smoke on the Water, and Paul played guitar with his teeth. If you have the option of seeing this band perform and you like great Rock musicianship, go!

This was the last American date of the Mr. Big American tour, and they ended it in a BIG way in the BIG state of Texas ! First of all, our seats were great (second row, upper balcony) and aside from some female patronages who partook in perhaps one (or four) too many margaritas, our view was impeccable. The staff of the House of Blues was great; very helpful and courteous, even if their concession prices were ridiculous. (They even admitted so themselves) Anyways, on to the concert: After the opening acts of Forever Falls and Gravity, who, to me, seemed like odd choices for openers. Mr. Big started off with a face melting rendition of "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy" (The Electric Drill Song) complete with electric drills, of course. Throughout the night they played an amazing set of classics and many tracks off of their new album, "What If...." Of course, Paul's solo was amazing, as was Billy's. I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't play "I Won't Get in My Way" or "All The Way Up" but these are just my personal favorites off of the new album, aside from "Undertow" which they did a rockin' job of. My favorite part of the night, however, was when they all switched instruments not once, but twice while playing a spot-on rendition of Deep Purple's "Smoke on The Water." For the first half of the song, Paul was on Drums, Eric on Guitar, Pat on Bass and Billy sang. Then, for the solo section and rest of the song, they switched again (except Paul) with Eric going to the Bass, Billy on Guitar (and playing a note-for-note re-creation of the famous solo, all without a pick mind you!) and Pat singing. Like I said, this was my favorite part of the night. I had no idea Paul was such an amazing drummer. He absolutely owned that song! It's not bad enough that he completely blows everyone out of the water with his guitar playing, but now he has to go and make drummers feel inadequate too. ;) After this, they played another cover to close the show. (The Who, "Baba O'Riley") I'm not a big Who fan, or a fan of this song in particular, but Mr. Big did a great job of it. I especially liked Paul playing the iconic keyboard riff. But I was also very surprised to see Eric get off the stage and go shake hands, fist bump, etc. with the crowd while singing. Overall, it was an amazing concert put on by world class musicians who are in tip-top shape. Every single member of this band is an amazing musician, not to mention just all around great guys. There are no egos or big headed-syndrome in this band; just four guys having a good time, and I'm glad they made Texas a part of it. I absolutely can't wait for the next Mr. Big release and subsequent tour. Hopefully they will come back to the House of Blues. But regardless of where they go, I would definitely see them again!
