Cool venue. On the water. Lots of boats full of people enjoying the music, even if they couldn't see the stage. The opening band, Ian Hunter and The Rant Band were really good, even though most of the songs were covers of other band's music. J. Geils were just phenomenal! I haven't seen them since 1980, but they were even better than I hoped they would be! They were tight, and the sound couldn't have been better. The volume was perfect, and every voice and instrument were crystal clear! The only diappointment was that they didn't play "One Last Kiss", which is my favorite J. Geils song. But, they could have played another two hours and not played everything i wanted to hear.

I've always loved the J Geils Band & have been to many of their concerts over the years, going back to the 70s. I'm NEVER disappointed! Love them, love their music! Peter Wolf has more energy in his pinky than I have in my whole body! Love him! New for us this time though was the venue... Fantastic! I've been to India Point Park many times as my son lives a few blocks away, but I couldn't imagine where they'd hold a concert! What a fantastic transformation! Watching this band under the stars, on a clear warm evening, with people on their boats in the bay listening too! The bar set up, the food vendors... It was ALL fantastic! The only draw back were the portalets! Hate those things, but I can't imagine any alternative. All in all, great job Providence! Very impressed!

When I saw the show was the original band, I couldn't wait to see how's they be after all these years. THEY WERE THE BOMB! Peter Wolf had all the energy he had 30 years ago, Magic Dick's harp was crisp and clear, the band sounded really tight and it was 2 1/2 hours of non stop action. Three encores and every song I wanted to hear. Absolutely Fantastic!

This was a New Year's Eve show at Mohegan Sun and it was nothing but outstanding. Ironically, the last time I saw them was on New Year's Eve at the Providence Civic Center back in the early 80's - and this show was just as great as that one was. The guys look a little older but nothing else has changed. Peter Wolf has all the energy, moves, and raps as always. He even walked to the back of the arena to sing with the fans. If you get a chance to see these guys live - do it.

J Geils Band was incredible. I have seen J Geils without Peter Wolf and the show was not the same. Peter Wolf is a true showman who loves to perform. He started the show with Freeze Frame and got the audience involved. He made sure he mentioned the people in the upper seats and said that the real party was in the upper seats and he was correct. The band played a few blues tunes toward the middle but didn't overdue it. Peter Wolf passed out a dozen roses to the girls in the audience during loves stinks and then he threw another dozen into the crowd. The band was called back twice played many more songs. Just when you thought they played everything they had they would play another. The show was nonstop. Magic Dick did his solo on the harp and was involved with Peter Wolf on quite a few songs. This is a band that should be playing on a regular basis again with Peter Wolf because they still have what it takes and not many band can keep you entertained like the J Geils band can.

Okay, I was at the shows way back when so I saw them many times at their peak. I had a blast! And, they haven't missed a beat. Peter Wolf has not aged. Still working those dance moves! Too bad the mic kept failing for him. I liked that they did many older songs and tunes from blues influences. Those expecting all the more recent hits may be disappointed. I was pretty psyched to hear "Give It To Me", "Houseparty", "Love-itis".....all I can say is; "Come Back, Baby!".

AMAZING. Peter Wolf's energy and vocals are even better than when I first saw this band in 1976! It was like listening to one of their live albums. They were all in sync as if not a day had gone by since they last played together. I truly hope that they continue to tour. I would love to see them in a venue with some dance floor space. Great combination of uptempo boogie music and blues too. Two plus hour show and 3 encores. Gotta love them.

What a great show, by a band that should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! Just a good ole' fun time! The band are true musicians and Peter Wolf is the premier front man! They played all the crowd favorites and dipped deep in to their career and played some gems. I will see this band every time they come to town! Opening band was Ian Hunter. You could tell that he loves Rock & Roll and is not out there collecting a pay check.

Aren't many concerts that can be counted on to deliver in correlation to the money commanded. This show actually did. Ian Hunter put on a spry rock & roll show alternating hits from his past with recent stuff he has been doing. It made for a compelling listening experience. J Geils played a lengthy set which allowed them to stretch out over their career. Peter Wolf is still a bonafide rock star. My only criticism would be in leaving out One Last Kiss, Angel in Blue, Till the Walls Come Tumblin' Down, and Rage in the Cage. A perfect choice was made in the guitarist replacing the actual J. Geils(retired namesake of the band). That dude was great, & fit like a fiddle.

I've said it before. I will never understand how this band is not in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. This group is musically tight and always puts on a great performance. They are musicians and entertainers. They had the crowd on their feet from start to finish and were high energy throughout. They haven't lost a step over the years. Well worth the time and cost and an added unexpected bonus with Ian Hunter opening. Definitely a must see performance.

Wolf still has a decent voice and moves a bit slower than twenty years ago but, that's how it works. They were tight as a band and played with dedication. The absence of Geils himself was noticeable but not is a big negative way. All in all a good, tight band. Four starts as the venue Northfield HardRock needs help with bloated sound. Acoustic treatments couldn't hurt at all.

Peter Wolf, Magic Dick and the rest of the funkiest band in the land have been entertaining Maine audiences since the early 70's. On September 3, 2015 they were at it again on the Maine State Pier in Portland. The energy, the entertainment and the music left no one in the audience disappointed. True professionals who belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They left it all on stage. Thank you J. As always , the J. Geils band did not disappoint ! The only negative to the whole evening was that they didn't have a designated smoking area . I am recovering from throat cancer and had to endure one ignorant person who felt he had the right to smoke his cigar while many people around him (including my Love ,other adults and children in the crowd) had to inhale his disgusting second hand smoke ! I have NOTHING against anyone who chooses to risk their health by smoking but those of us who have learned our lesson or choose not to should NOT be forced to endure their disgusting habit !!!!!!!

The scene was an outdoor music festival Saturday night where all the old hippies schlepped their collapsable chairs and came out to see Peter Wolf & and company! It was on the waterfront and it was a cool and breezy night to mark the end of summer. The show started off with Ian Hunter and The Rant Band. For those of you who can't remember Ian Hunter, he was the front man for Mott the Hoople and delighted us with some new music and ended his set with "All the way from Memphis" and "All the Young Dudes" which left the audience wanting more old Hoople hits! This was an absolute treat to see this 76 year old rock legend still rockin' out audiences! While waiting for our headliner to set up, there were multiple vendors unlike most rock concerts, they offered a more gourmet style to fast food and plenty of alcohol for the crowd to partake. After we filled our stomachs,The J. Geils Band took to the stage and started off the set with "Sno-Cone". They continued with "Hard Drivin Man", "Just Can't Wait", "Where Did Our Love Go", "Detroit Breakdown" 'Homework" and on to a tribute to the Allman Bros Band! The audience was off their feet and dancing to some really great music! Peter Wolf was in rare form for a 63 year old and he never takes a break from entertaining his audience! He is still quite remarkable and as we found out, was just warming up! Next up, they went into their hits like "Sanctuary", "Freeze Frame", "Angel in a Centerfold" and then we watched Magic Dick play that harp like nobody can play! He wailed on 'Whammer Jammer", "Give it to Me" "Ain't Nothin But A House Party", "Lookin For A Love", and made that harmonica talk to the crowd! An outstanding display of perfection throughout 2 hours of playing a harp! This man is a born musician! Seth Justman on keyboards was also on top of his game giving a performance that simply amazed fans! Danny Klein on bass is still as great as he was 40 years ago! Tom Arey on drums gave us a a terrific display of keeping the Geils beat! Hold on here, we're missing the lead guitarist of the same name, J. Geils, who is no longer a member of the legendary band? Well, let's just say that his permanent replacement, Duke Levine, who I say is better than Geils on guitar, played his instrument as if he was in the band from the start! He gave us a grand performance! The night ended with "Where Did Our Love Go", Start All Over Again" and the last hit was Reputa the Buta's song, "Musta Got Lost", which ended the night with the crowd wishing the music would go on. Peter Wolf and the band stayed on stage to thank their fans for coming out and for many years of loyal support. To sum it all up, if you get a chance to see this show stopping band, make it a point!

It was a fun night. the band was very high energy for a bunch of old guys! They played all their classics. These guys can still rock and sound great! The venue was pleasant, right by the river in Providence.
Band was amazing! Venue was great....could have been better organized and restrooms a bit closer. Was a pain to get a beer and NOT be able to leave the area to go back to our seats!!! That was a drag. The view is great with the boats and JGB was amazing.
They did not disappoint! Peter Wolf, DK, Magic Dick, and company were amazing. High energy kept everyone dancing from start to finish at this SOLD OUT show. Don't miss this tour!
The band still has "it", Peter is on of the BEST front men to ever set foot on a stage. Wish Mr. Giles could have been part of it, oh well his loss. Magic Dick can still blow and I can't wait to see them again. House Party baby.... I have my 4 year old signing JGiles all the time it's great. Please come back to the Boston area to play, north of Boston would be great. Regards, Gum Jaw
The Band was truly "Amazing" and sounded better than ever !!! Ripped thru one song after the other, fans on their feet in honor to them, fans dancing and rocking in the aisles the whole 2 hours. Every musician, Peter Wolf, D.K., Seth Justman, Magic Dick, (original Band members) along with Duke Levine, Kevin Barry, Tom Arey, The Uptown Horns, Backup Singers The Geilettes were on the money, they left no stone unturned. If you didn't see this Show, you lost out, you MUST catch one of their upcoming Shows. They never disappoint their fans ever and only deliver the best, they are top of the line. So do yourselves a favor and see one of their upcoming Show. As Wolf says: "Only the best first and later for the garbage." Juke ; - ] ~~
Great show by the band, as always, but I didn't know that J. Geils was not with the band on this tour due to legal battles over the name of the band, etc. Would have been nice to know that in advance.
With or without their namesake, the Boys from Boston know how to put on a show. Peter was the masterful conductor, calling in solos, drawing attention to his beautiful backup singers and blasting his own voice. The rhythm section carried the show drawing feet to dance. The solos built the melodies, especially Magic Dick hitting the high notes. Who says age counts...

First I was never a big fan of the Fixx. But the did a very good job, so much I ended buying their new CD and really enjoying it. But the J. Geils Band: OMG!!!!! What an amazing show!! Even my wife was surprised. The musicianship was fantastic. Even when I really like there 80's stuff, my favorite songs are the one from the 70's and they played most of them. Even when Peter Wolf clearly shows his age, thank God he didn't act his age. He is still a consumate showman and has plenty of gas left in the tank. Seth Justman keyboard playing is still amazing. Magic Dick's harmonica still masterful (Whammer Jammer Baby!!). Yes it was somewhat sad J. Geils wasn't there, but the rest of the band made up for it very nicely. And D.K. bass still nicely done. I hope the visit area again reall soon. Here is to them getting in the rock and roll hall of fame!

J Geils with Peter Wolf put on a great house party with a loud excellent show. With songs like Detroit breakdown, Must have got lost, J Geils belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. Peter Wolf was constant motion with his Jagger like moves and he was very gracious in acknowledging Cleveland contributions to Rock and Roll. Magic Dick blew his harmonica like he had made a deal with the devil and held those high notes Great show except for the millenniums taking their selfies with their I- phones and holding there phones up to record the whole show while blocking your view.. Great show good venue

Best concert I've been to in a long time. Played everything I wanted to hear, and played twice as long as any other concert I've seen at the Rocksino. I would see J. Geils again in an instant.

It was great to see the guys together again, even if there were only 3 from the original lineup (Peter Wolf, Magic Dick, Seth Justman). They performed virtually every J. Geils song you'd ever want to hear. The back-up musicians were excellent.

I love j geils. One of my top favorite bands of all time. Peter wolf had to do shoutouts to WZLX during the show and bring up a contest winner. All of that interrupted the flow of the show. Great concert otherwise

It was 42 years ago when I first saw this band and I was hooked. They still are the best and Peter Wolf is the best frontman of any band. Non stop energy and a great night of great music. They can still deliver a great show. Only sat down for one ballad.

While they may not have new material to offer, the J. Geils Band puts out one of the best high energy rock performances of their classic material. First off, it must be said up front what a marvel that lead singer and persona, Peter Wolf is. He is still the fast rapping and ferocious blues singer that has true conviction in both the material and his band. He puts body and soul into his singing, prancing and dancing all over the stage that a man half his age would have a hard time keeping up with. He is a true performer, not just a singer, although that singer was as fierce and convincing as ever. The band's set was a combination of their classic originals and blues covers, especially those from the iconic "Full House" live album of the early 70s. As mentioned, the new material may not be present, but the band put on a fiery and energetic performance, highlighted by Magic Dick's incredible harmonic playing and fine organ play of the other original member Seth Justman. The other band members, fill in players, were fine players indeed and served the material very well. In addition, the two background singer-dancers added soul and an element of sex and naughtiness. The Uptown horn players added depth on three or four songs - especially on Freeze Frame which gave the Beacon a house party feel. Overall, an excellent show - so if one wants to experience classic American hard edged rock blues - J Geils is a top choice.

I have seen Peter Wolf by himself and now with J. Geils. He is a true performer, loves the stage and can not stop for a second. At nearly 70, it is amazing the way he moves. The music was a mix of old and older with almost all the songs you would expect.

This show was ok, not great--they worked through the catalog very predictably. All the big hits, etc. You knew what was coming next, more or less. There was little sense that they were really putting everything they had into it. More like a rehearsal on steroids. Only one encore. They were pretty flat. What bothered me most was that after the show, the band had no time for any of the fans whatsoever--they simply marched out and got on their tour bus and that was that. No interaction, no hint that the fans are anything more than mullets to these guys. Especially Peter Wolf, who was almost aggressively detached and unfriendly. I guess when you think you are a Big Swinging D___, you don't really care any more. I hope he is happy with himself.

Pete and the boys gave us what we've come to expect, but a 76 year old man stole the evening. Ian Hunter blew the audience away. Man is still recording and performing relevant music.
