Ben Gibbard and his buddies played a perfect set! You can tell these guys enjoy what they do and that makes the music all the better!

I've been a Death Cab fan since high school and have always wanted to go to one of their concerts. I finally broke down and did it with absolutely no regrets. The tickets were reasonable, the venue was perfect for an outdoor summer concert, and the set list was a great mix of all their best songs. The opening band, Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, was good even though I had never heard their music before. I was very impressed and will certainly go again.

Incredible show in a terrific venue (Asheville). We drove up from Atlanta and it was definitely worth the drive.
Being a long-time DCFC fan and seeing them 3 different times, I was a bit disappointed w/the show. DCFC should've played more songs w/the LA Phil and the few songs that they did play were pretty sloppy.

Tegan and Sara always gives a good show both with their music and bickering. Their attempt to reach out to the audience most often results in hilarious conversations and surprisingly charming awkward moments.

This was an excellent show. The New Pornographers I'd never seen but they put on a decent show. Tegan and Sarah were great (as well as adorable) and Death Cab for Cutie was amazing. They're one of my favorite bands, so how can you miss the once in a life time opportunity to see them perform with an entire orchestra? They came out and played almost a full set by them selves then returned with the LA Phil and played some of our favorite DCFC songs with the orchestra and finished it off with a firework display. I really don't know how you can top that.

The New Pornographers did very well. Who knew Tegan and Sara, my new favorite girl band, would be so a delightful and talented? DCFC was amazing as expected. My only complaint is that something was off with the Hollywood Bowl sound. For the opening bands, the sound was distorted. During the main act the sound mixing was off. The Philharmonic Orchestra brass section was a little too prominent.

The best show ever that we have seen by DC this is our 4th in LA area. Tegan and Sara were wonderful and would see them as a headliner! The last half of the DC show was amazing with the LA Philharmonic accomanyment to DC and the fireworks were unexpected but an amazing end to a wonderful show! Did not want it to end.

This was a phenomenal event. The starting groups Tegan and Sara and the New pornographers started things off with great music. Death cab was fantastic in the 2nd half. The addition of LA Phil made the music so rich and all was topped off with surprise Bowl fireworks. Overall amazing evening.

you can never go wrong with a summer show at the Hollywood Bowl, but this one in particular will stay in my mind for a long time. Tegan and Sara were fantastic, and i've been in love with Ben Gibbard since 1996, so needless to say Death Cab was phenomenal. they played their last few songs with the LA Phil - incredible - and the fireworks at the end were the icing on the cake.

The New Pornographers were surprisingly good, but Tegan and Sara weren't quite my cup of tea. Death Cab for Cutie was amazing, and absolutly beautiful with the LA Phil. Overall an excellent show at The Bowl. I had seen Death Cab a number of times in the past. Both in LA, SF Bay Area and Austin, Tx. Adding in the orchestra accompaniment was a good touch. Would have liked to have seen them out their earlier. Seemed like a short set with the accompaniment. Good finale with fireworks. Was hoping for at least one encore. Not sure if it was Sunday night curfew requirements or not.

My wife and I came up to St. Paul from Chicago to see Death Cab at the Legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium and it exceeded our expectations! The venue was amazing and everyone was so friendly, a far cry from attending a show in Chicago! Death Cab played a great mix of old and new music! The show kicked off with the drving bass line of I Will Possess... from there Death Cab was full speed ahead! I can't wait to come back to St. Paul for another Death Cab show!

I am an avid Death Cab fan, but sadly, have not been able to make any of their shows until this past Tuesday. Luckily, I had just moved to Colorado and was able to add in the experience of being at Red Rocks Ampitheatre for the first time (it is now my opinion that any fan of music should attend this venue at some point). The combination of these virginities made the evening absolutely unforgettable. Frightened Rabbit opened with a set that showed off their charisma and likable melodies. I came in about half way through, but I enjoyed what I heard (their sound fits in very well with the collective taste of a Death Cab crowd) and their exuberance rubbed off on the audience. Death Cab, though a veteran indie act, did not play the diva and came out soon after the stage was set and launched right into I Will Possess Your Heart with Ben Gibbard jamming his guitar for all it was worth, then abandoning it suddenly in favor of the piano and the microphone. Their energy was incredible and the elevation (while they claimed it was making them slightly breathless) did not hinder their vocals or their presence on the stage. Every song, whether brand new or a classic, was given its due and was sung so that fans of everything from Pictures in an Exhibition to Doors Unlocked and Open were not disappointed. Death Cab is a band you cannot be content to see just once. They are one of the few bands out there that really believe in their music and enjoy singing it for audiences who love it as much as they do. Ben Gibbard did all of the speaking for the band, but he really connected with the audience through honesty, humor and a thankfulness for the enthusiasm of everyone in attendance (most of the crowd stood for the entire show). The combination of talent, humilty and a true appreciation for music made it a great evening.

This is the second time I was fortunate enough to see Death Cab at Red Rocks! Both times the opening acts were great fits. Frightened Rabbit were great, tight sound though they were commenting how hard the altitude was effecting them.. Death Cab was as good as I had ever seen them. They had such great energy, picking it up from the audience (or moon people) and sending it right back. They have such an extensive catalogue and did a good job of mixing the older with the new. The encore was very much appreciated!

This event was amazing from the beginning!! You didn't need to wait in any lines just go through the gates to check your tickets then you just chill around the quad area. There is a bar outside, DJ, car displays by Cadillac, popcorn and drinks and there are tables to sit and talk to people. You can also buy merch which is better to buy before the concert because afterward the lines get too long and then the merch is sold out. Music wise everything went great. Frightened Rabbit were awesome and Death Cab for Cutie were amazing. Nice venue to attend seated and open. Sound quality is the best there.

Death Cab playing at the Greek was amazing. The perfect, serene venue for such a mellow band. Althought we missed the opener (Frightened Rabbit), I've heard they were excellent. Death Cab played a fantastic set list, ranging from some of their oldest songs to their newest album. They had great eneregy and had the crowd really entertained. The icing on the cake was the outdoor amphitheater. The Greek is one of the coolest venues in LA, sitting in Griffith Park in the middle of the mountains surrounded by trees.

They were down right amazing live! They definitely know how to put up a good show and keep the crowd entertained and involved. They sound like they do in their albums, maybe even better, unlike a lot of bands these days which sound like garbage live. They know what they're doing and every instrument each member played and switched of too was amazing. Would definitely love to see them again, not to mention the venue was awesome, in Ben's own words "It's like playing in a forest."

The opening act Frightened Rabbit was really great; they were humble and engaging, the music sounded great, even the arrangements were awesome. I had seen them in a smaller venue and they were just as great this time. Then Death Cab for Cutie showed up, I was so excited, they started I Will Possess Your Heart, then transitioned right into the next, then the next. So on and so on, they rarely deviated from the traditional arrangements, there were some extended versions like We Looked Like Giants which was the highlight of the evening. The HUGE problem was who cared? Not Death Cab/ Benjamin Gibbard. He and the rest just played their songs which sounded amazing but they didn't really engage the audience except to complain about people getting on other people's shoulders and to say how unimpressed they were with a guy who jumped up on stage. Other than that all Gibbard said was "Are you having a good time? Good, that's what we're going for." That and generic rock show speak. If I wanted the experience I got I would have stayed home and watched a live DVD and saved myself a hundred bucks. That's how unimpressed I was by Death Cab's stage presence. I was really excited to see these guys, and I gave them a chance the whole concert but it just never manifested into the great show I wanted it to be. Basically they just played to get through the songs and get the show over. In New York or Seattle or even L.A. or San Francisco you probably would've gotten a better show but not in Dallas. I walked in a bigger Death Cab fan and walked out a huge fan of Frightened Rabbit.

Though they're my favorite band already, I considered all aspects of the venue and performance... And oh man, it was my favorite concert ever. The Williamsburg Waterfront was absolutely stunning. When DCFC ended their lineup with "Matching Bands of Manhattan," I'm pretty sure everyone's hearts sank. Turning around to see the skyline, a beautiful moment occurred.. And Death Cab left the stage, only to hear a great roar for encore. They came out once more to enjoy the view, the crowd, and the epic evening by playing more of their classics. Aside from the fact that Death Cab is one my all time faves, seeing them at Marymoor park was just perfect. The venue is small enough not to warrent those annoying, oversized screens that plague every other outdoor venue, and it was easy enough for me, a 5'-4" girl to get fairly close and see the whole show, and not just people's heads. Like close enough to see Ben Gibbard's start of a beard. The volume could have been a little louder, but that might be a Redmond ordinance or something, as was the show ending right at 10pm. The curfew was fine being a Sunday night though. I really liked that they played songs from most, if not each of their albums, and not just the last two, like most other bands do when on tour. My favorite part was seeing thru the back stage fence when Ra Ra Riot was on and playing a mellow jam. Different members of Death Cab were strolling through the park along the little paths with their friends and loved-ones while the sun filtered down through the trees. I like that they looked so relaxed and were able to enjoy the park like I do.

Death Cab puts on a great show and I love their cool, colorful, lightboard type background. I think it's the same set up they had last year at Edgefield too. They seemed a little tired or maybe less excited to be there than normal, but that may be due to the crazy heat this weekend and the fact that they were playing a rock show before it was dark outside. All in all, they were good as usual.

DCFC needs to cut back on their distortion. It was much better than the Memorial Coliseum a few years back. Maybe with there two bands I just need to sit to the studio work. A lot of people had a blast and it is not like the show sucked, but I was expecting some better. And hey, Edgefield, when we stand in line for hours and sit in the heat for hours and pay up the rear for your food and drink, how about shows that go past 9:15pm. (Bought The Open Door EP yesterday and it is sweet.) I have waited for years to see The New Pornographers, but thought their live show was very weak sauce. I can't fully say why, but it was just not very entertaining. Please buy all of their albums and hopefully when you see them next they will be to your liking, but I don't think I will see them again.

This was my first DCFC show, and my first at McMenamin's Edgefield venue - a surprisingly large yet intimate pavilion area, there was no shortage of good locations to plunk down and enjoy the show. I wish I'd worn more casual clothes (like a fool, I believed the "show starts at" time so I came straight from work) as the weather was brutally hot and the concert area itself is almost totally devoid of shade. The surrounding area was pleasant with lots of nearby places to meet my minimum beer requirement. Once dusk settled in, it became an amazingly cool, super comfortable venue. DCFC is a tight-knit, cohesive group to listen to live, producing the slightly rough sound I enjoy in live music while still being faithful to the songs without a lot of unnecessary improv I dread from some bands. The audience was enthusiastic and fun. The big disappointment for me was that they played NO Postal Service tunes whatsoever - a different band, I know, but I could hope anyway. It turns out about 60% of the Ben Gibbard material I like is Postal Service era, so the familiar content was a little thin for me. You can't really blame the band for that. I was surprised at the quality of the opening bands - Ra Ra Riot and to a lesser extent, Rogue Wave put an end to the string of forgettable bands I've seen open for my favorite acts lately. Hard core DCFC fans no doubt enjoyed it more than I did, but overall, it was a pleasant enough time.

This is the second time I've seen DCFC at the LC Pavilion and like last time, it was fantastic. Great sound, great song selection, Ben interacted with the crowd and they played a solid two hours with encore. Would go see them again in a heartbeat!
This was our first time seeing DCFC though we've been fans for years. Funny, I've never really thought of them as a rock band but live, they ROCK! We were lucky enough to be on the front row and Ben's voice was spot on. The energy they had on stage was non-stop and there was hardly more than a 10 second break between each song. As soon as one song was finishing, Ben was handing off his guitar to grab another for the next song. The only, slightly disappointing thing was that they didn't sing a lot from older albums. They sang 6 from Kintsugi but of course they sang all their hits. This band delivered so much more than we expected and would see them again in a heartbeat.
I Love Death Cab for Cutie mostly because of my Daughter! They are my Daughter's favorite band of all time. She has seen them several times including an exclusive and unforgettable performance in Paris France! Ben Gibbard is truly a rare talent! With all his amazing collective work including DCFC, The Postal Service and all his Solo work! We highly recommend to anyone that loves great music to see Death Cab for Cutie!!! Let's not forget the amazing venue The Greek Theatre on the UC- Berkeley California Campus! It's without a doubt my favorite venue!!!
I have been trying to see Death Cab for 10years and this did not disappoint! My husband and I went down to the very bottom and I had one person between me and the stage. We got amazing pictures and an even better experience. Ben Gibbard is simply the best!
Great evening with Death Cab For Cutie! They played old and current songs all very good not a bad moment, this was the 3rd time my daughter has seen them! Each time great experience!
I knew Death Cab was good but wow... Seeing them live for the first time was unforgettable, not to mention seeing them perform in such a gorgeous venue!
Titus Andronicus' lead singer summed it up best when he went on a mini rant about how he didn't know what the hell they were doing in such a cavernous venue like Ovation Hall. Many reviews I've come across call it 'intimate', which I can probably see from a pop artist perspective. Going to see Beyonce in a place like Ovation Hall would be intimate compared to her concerts at Madison Square Garden. I really enjoy Death Cab, but in indie music settings with a venue that matches them acoustically. Having to blast the mic on the drummer to be able to reach the upper echelon seats kind of took away from the musicality for me (Ovation Hall doesn't have overhang seats on its second tier, so you're going wayyy far back for that sound to travel). Afterward, I was told by a friend in security that this overcompensation was a common complaint amongst concert-goers of rock concerts at the Revel (citing Stone Temple Pilots), not so much their pop concerts. The cavern aside, Death Cab's set was awesome. Didn't expect them to open with 'Possess' but it really got the crowd going with its intro build-up. The cool stage lighting effects they used were great too. After 'Crooked Teeth,' some drunken 'bros' were spilling beer all over us... hey, I'm all for drunk dancing at concerts, just do it responsibly :). Revel security was really prompt with cleaning up all the messes, was actually pretty impressive. Anyway, my bottom line: Death Cab is great, and I'm looking forward to the new album. Hope they consider the House of Blues instead next time they're here... or maybe even the Borgata Event Center? Death Cab a 5 of 5, the circulation, security, and staff of Ovation Hall a 5 of 5, but them together a 3 of 5.
Death Cab for Cutie had a really good mix of songs. They really entertain the audience well, you can tell they are having a lot of fun, which always makes it easier to get into a show when you can tell the performers enjoy what they do and want to be there.
I am not a difficult woman to please, but when it comes to DCFC, my expectations were pretty high. They are my favorite band and considering all of the years that they have been making music and touring, I figured that they should have their act together by now. Well, these expectations were MORE than exceeded. Ben Gibbard had enough stage presense that there hardly seemed room enough for all of his fellow (incredibly talented) band mates. Honestly, I enjoyed them MORE live than I do listening to their recordings. Gibbard's voice is just as pure, and the music takes on a whole new personality when you can actually SEE it being made. Overall, I highly recommend this concert to any fan of DCFC, even the newer ones (I didn't know every song they played, but they did play all of my favorites) or anyone who is looking to discover them for the first time. You won't be able to help falling in love. Oh, and Ben is looking FANTASTIC. I don't know what he's been doing, but it's working for him. Normally I don't go for men in skinny jeans, but he is looking better than he ever has!

This was one of the most enjoyable and memorable concerts EVER! Not only was DCFC at their best but the addition of Magik Magic Orchestra gave it such a big sound. Also the staging added so much to the mood of the music to make a complete package.

Beautiful stage layout. Great lighting and the magik magic orchestra was amazing as well. The entire set was awesome and then they came out for a five song encore! What a great show. The Schnitz is a great venue as well. I loved it.

It was amazing. The show was the final destination of a ten day road trip through three states I took with three of my friends. The venue was beautiful, the lighting was amazing and the set list was unbelievable. The Magik Magik Orchestra was absolutely amazing. They added so much to every song and together they created something classic and new at the same time. When we got up to leave I noticed that I had indeed soiled my pants.

Sometimes the addition of an orchestra is just a gimic to "mix things up" on an otherwise repetetive or boring tour. NOT THE CASE with this show. The addition of the orchestra brought new depth to an already excellent set list. The blending of strings was clearly a well thought out plan and not just added for effect.

I'm not a Death Cab fan at all. I just organized a Death Cab viewing for a die hard friend of mine. She loved it, "They were so so so good. This will be my favorite concert forever." I had different thoughts. I did enjoy the music and the orchestra. It was a nice change from my typical electro concert scene. It was worth the $60 I paid.

This was a beautiful concert. I went on Sunday and the theatre wasn't packed, which made it more intimate. The view from the mezzanine, in the Beacon Theatre, was great. Ben Gibbard's voice was more than I ever hoped for. He sounds spectacular live. I was a huge fan of DCFC in high school and this concert was still amazing. Anyone who remotely likes this band should see them!

What a show!!! So different and the songs came across so beautifully. They sang many old classics and new ones. The orchestra added such a great dynamic to the show. At first everyone remained sitted and eventualy we all started to stand and dance...which was great. If you get a chance to see DCFC in this type venue...you will NOT be disappointed!!!!

It was by far the best concert I've ever been to. It was fantastic. The theater was beautiful. Ben Gibbard's voice is practically what you hear on the albums. So gooooood! I would definitely recommend seeing them.

I've been a fan since Something About Airplanes (that's probably a dozen years). I've seen them live easily over 10 times. Yes, I'm a fan. Three years ago I saw them at 107.7's deck the hall ball, and thought the Killers (who opened) stole the show. They just weren't very good. I decided it was time to stop seeing them live - they had gotten "too big". I chalked it up to the journey that most successful indie rock bands take - their early stuff is great, the later stuff not so great, and they ultimately cross over to mainstream (Nirvana or Green Day or Chili Peppers or..), fade (Polvo or Slint or..), or just become icons and do reunion shows to rehash their old GREAT materials (Pixies or Built to Spill or Pavement or Dinosaur Jr or..). Death Cab seemed like it was headed down path #1. Why do "true" fans turn on a band when they get "too big"? Who knows. In my case, the band didn't "wear" their music right anymore. Their albums through Plans were still all quite good (Plans is my second favorite after We Have the Facts), and kind of took a dive after that. But their latest album (Codes & Keys) isn't actually half bad... but their shows just weren't the same. The band that was on stage was simply different than the band I liked - they seemed stuck between the old indie rock routine and some rockstar act, and didn't get either right. Three years is a long time, and I ended up getting tickets for the show at the Key Arena tonight - not sure why - I thought I'd give them another chance, but I was skeptical about the venue and about how much I'd like the performance. I remember seeing Death Cab at Bumbershoot like 8 years ago, and they happened to play at the Key in front of maybe 500 fans. They were clearly uncomfortable on stage and Gibbard kept saying how weird it felt to play that venue, and how much they wanted it to feel like a club. Well, tonight they packed the entire arena. And I have to say, they rekindled the fan in me. Why did they suck three years ago, and why did they put on such a great show tonight? I've come to realize - when a band gets to that stage where they sell enough tickets to pack the Key, they can't do what they did when they played the Showbox. They have to scale to that venue. And tonight they did. Their sound wasn't plagued with the lo-fi characterisitics that were so apropos for the club scene, but ruined their 2008 show. Their energy was far better than in 2008, when they brought their typical club-style energy to a much larger venue where it looked anemic. Tonight, they had some rockstar lights and some rockstar jams and some rockstar interludes. Are they sell-outs? Hell no. They just realized... Scale, or Die. They chose "Scale". I am happy for that choice. I hope more great indie-rock bands can make that transition successfully. And while they were able to scale, they also had an amazing song selection and reached far back into their repertiore (ok, not as far back as Airplanes, but two songs off of We Have the Facts fills my quota :-)) They played two hours and made ALL their fans happy - old and new. Truly a great show.

This was my third time seeing Death Cab for Cutie. i previously saw them at the Greek Theater and the Hollywood Bowl. I was worried the venue would not compare but I was pleasantly surprised by Pomona's Fox Theater. It was an intimate venue and a great place to see a band like this. Merchandise is sold beside the bar while the restrooms are upstairs. There is ample free parking, which is unheard of.

Death Cab put on a great show! They played a number of songs from a number of albums and they were all great. Gibbard is a powerful front man and the band is extremely talented. McGerr, the drummer makes it look easy. They showed great enthusiasm throughout the set even on though it was a Monday night. It was good to hear the sounds from the past and present throughout the show. Amazing!

I have seen DC4C shows before and this was not their best. I flew from Wisconsin to colorado to see them at the Rocks-thinking that they would be all in for a good time. They hid from fans and their portion of the show lasted a little more than an hour and that hour they seemed to be burnt out-wanting to be anywhere but in one of the best places to play/be on earth.

Red Rocks has to be the best concert venue in the country, hands down. And it's especially perfect for musicians who don't have to rely on confetti and insane pyrotechnics to put on a great show. Death Cab and openers Ra Ra Riot and Andrew Bird rocked it last Tuesday. Ben Gibberd's voice is just as strong as his lyrics... no oxygen necessary. Looks like he's been working out. And the event staff was awesome... they've finally got a handle on how to keep General Admission fair... especially for those who show up before the sun rises.

Thousands of fans crowded into the open amphitheater at Red Rocks, coats and backpacks holding the place of those in lines for food, beverages, or merchandise. Arriving an hour before the show only barely provided a place in the bottom tier of general admission. Before long, Ra Ra Riot was set and ready to play. A band I had never heard before but will never forget. Their songs eloquent with a violinist (Rebecca Zeller) and a cellist (Alexandra Lawn) tearing through the threads on their bows, provide their magnificent singer (Wes Miles) a melody to match. The bassist (Mathieu Santos) and guitarist (Milo Bonacci) defining their ability through various solos one song, and then humbly stepping back to tambourine on another was a true show of humility. After their set was finished, and words of thanks from Wes, Andrew Bird began to set up. They came out, and right away their fans were recognized, a third of the crowd standing and shouting muffled the words from Andrew s voice, but his grin let us know he was ready, and happy, to play. Fluid is the only way I can describe the music Andrew Bird provided. Through his proficient (to say the least) talent at whistling and at playing the guitar, violin, and mandolin, Andrew wowed the audience through a set of abstract but dance inspiring songs. Dusk had begun and various color schemes of light shone down on the musicians, and provided a whole new, and more entertaining, setting than previously. At the end of the set, the third of the venue standing had turned into three thirds, everyone had fallen for Andrew Bird s tune. Another group of stage hands out setting up for another band, but the break that took half of an hour, lasted ages. Darkness fell upon the amphitheater, and when they finally took the stage, Death Cab for Cutie lit it back up. The fans roared with excitement, and the full grown men on either side of me screamed like small children. Benjamin Gibbard (Lead vocals, guitarist) thanked everyone for coming out, and they got right down to business. The metal panels behind the band that had seemed useless lit up as well, and song after song provided bright multihued visualizations that displayed behind a canvas of smoke, billowing out of the machines and picked apart by the lights behind them. Dedicating songs to their fellow bands as they went, they flowed from song to song seamlessly, and their adoring fans sang along, but could not be heard as Death Cab for Cutie strongly extended their sound through the venue. True showmanship was presented, as the band didn t slow down, even when an adoring young fan ran on stage, while being chased by several Red Rocks employees, and grabbed their lead singer for a fraction of a second. They played on, when they were demanded back on stage for an encore after they bid us adieu , they did not disappoint with an exhilarating five extra songs! At the end of the night, that had gone by far too quickly, it is safe to say, from the young single men to my right, to the family of four in front of me, to the middle aged couple to my left, Death Cab for Cutie possessed all of our hearts. Death Cab, is indeed, for Everyone.

I couldn't believe how well all the acts just happen to flow together. There was a constant feed off everything and everyone. Even between set changes. I would give my most prized possession to relive that experience. Ra Ra Riot was humble enough to meet up with their fans after there act, Andrew Bird and his band just knew how to get the crowd to move their feet, and to top off with Death Cab's encore, throwing caution to the wind and ending with Transantlanticism. Moving, heart-left, amazing.
From beginning to the end I was blown away from the sound! I went as a fan of Death Cab only and came away a fan for all three!!! All three were so tight and the venue added to the shows perfection. Each band had a blast on stage and it carried over to the audience... all in all this place is magical!
Anyone who has seen Death Cab in concert can tell you that it is really something else but when you add in Andrew Bird, who is arguably one of the most musically gifted artists out there, you get one hell of a concert. I enjoyed what I paid attention to of Ra Ra Riot and thought that their music was remarkably fine-tuned for such a young group, especially one that has had as many member changes. Their set was short but sweet, with a good mix of their music, at least of which I am aware, but the audio left something to be desired. It was hard to even tell when the female singer had joined in other than being aware that there was another layer on the voice track. I look forward to hearing them in the future and I think that even next year they will have a stronger stage presence. I believe that both Ra Ra Riot and Andrew Bird would have been better suited to a smaller venue or at least a better sound set up. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Andrew Bird and I loved every minute of his set, but I don't think that the outdoor environment/the sound set up didn t allow you to hear all of the many and varying levels inside of his music. I can t wait to hear him in the Cat's Cradle in Carborro NC, which I believe will be a much better venue for him. This was my first time hearing Andrew Bird in concert and I definitely enjoyed hearing him and the rest of his group play with songs that I have played enumerable times attempting to suppress my urge to mimic the melody with my average-at-best whistling. The song I enjoyed the most in his set was Anonanimal, but I am highly biased, as that is one of my favorite songs of all time. Scathyian Empires was a close second, which he said he had specifically chosen because he thought it would sound great at Red Rocks\u2026it did! As I expected, the building of each song with violin/guitar loops and seemingly impossibly perfect whistling was definitely a sight to behold and I have never had more respect for a musician s performance than when I was watching him in his element. Martin Dosh, Jeremy Ylvisaker, and Mike Lewis fill out the sound quite well and I was surprised to see an oboe come out on stage, showing that Andrew isn t the only one with a diverse musical repertoire. Death Cab was simply amazing, there really aren t words that do justice to the experience of hearing them play live while watching the lighting cast on the Red Rocks stage. They used hang panels of LED-appearing lights that showed such things as growing ivy, falling stars, and the Narrow Stairs cover art glowing against the rock backdrop. The only complaint that I could even think of is that they didn t play Marching Bands of Manhattan while playing many other songs from Plans. As is the usual, they played their awesome encore set after 5-10 mins of our cheering and finished with the always incredible Transatlanticism that is stretched into a 10 min song. The satisfyingly-long set was also colored by a tributary playing of I Will Follow You Into The Dark to salute Andrew Bird and the rest of his gang as some of music s greatest and later on by a crazy girl who ran on the stage to touch Ben. The funniest part about this was Ben s commentary at the beginning of the next song, saying that his sweatiness shocked her and that I wear cowboy shirts for a reason people: They work for cowboys.
The concert started out with their first opening act, Ra Ra Riot who played for about thirty minutes. They had some great songs but people weren't to into them. Andrew Bird was the second opening act and also played for thirty minutes but was a much bigger crowd pleaser. Although some of the crowd really life them, they weren't all that good. Most of their songs sounded the same and they weren't very exciting. Finally, the lights went out, the whole crowd stood up and Death Cab for Cutie walked out. They jumped right in with the song, The Employment Pages. They played 16 songs not just from their most recent album, Narrow Stairs but also older hits like, I Will Follow You Into the Dark. They also included a song from the recent EP, The Open Door. The encore had four more songs, and they finished strong with, Transatlanticism. The sound was AMAZING and they were brilliant live.
Death Cab for Cutie is a band that, up until last night, was one of the few bands that I still had yet to see live in person. I am happy to report that their show did not disappoint. A warm summer night at Red Rocks is hard to beat by itself; fortunately Death Cab for Cutie only added to the experience. The sound was phenomenal, and they played all my favorite songs. The light show was a little underwhelming, but the energy in Ben Gibbard's dance steps more than made up for it. Death Cab at Red Rocks is pretty much at the top of my list of favorite shows. I was a little nervous about seeing Andrew Bird live again. Prior to seeing Death Cab, I had seen Andrew Birds as an opener at a Devotchka concert - an experience I did not particularly enjoy. His act was not nearly as bad as I remembered, but I have a hard time enjoying the oddly-placed whistling pieces in his songs. I knew very little about Ra Ra Riot going into the show, and I was quite surprised by the enjoyability of their performance. I don't think I was alone either. At the end of the night, when Ben Gibbard was thanking the opening acts, the applause for Ra Ra Riot seemed slightly louder than that of Andrew Bird, even though there were fewer people in the audience when Ra Ra Riot took the stage. If I could have had the liberty to rearrange the acts, I would have undoubtedly moved Ra Ra Riot to the act directly preceding Death Cab. In summary, the Death Cab show was all I expected it to be, and more. Two thumbs up.
I'm still rather new to Death Cab for Cutie's music, but I'm already a fan. This was my first concert and I was actually a bit confused when they first came out on stage because the lead singer, Benjamin Gibbard, has changed quite a bit from when I saw him in a "I Will Possess Your Heart" music video. But it's a good change, he looks healthier and was really active throughout the entire concert. I loved the energy on stage and how into their music these men are. They really connected with the audience as well with a few jokes and some random banter. It made it feel like you knew them. I would recommend going to one of these concerts if the chance ever presents itself in Reno again. The performance, seating, and price for the tickets were all stellar. I was extremely happy with this concert.
From start to finish the show was incredible. Ra Ra Riot has become on of my new favorites. I loved the girls on the strings. Andrew Bird was just as amazing, if not more than I anticipated. With his quirky personality shining through, his inhuman ability to whistle, and his talent at many instruments was awesome! I loved every minute of his set. As for Death Cab, they blew me away. They played some oldies and newbies. It was cool to hear the whole crowd sing with them. I couldn't have asked for a better venue too. Great show. I'd go see all of them again.
The band was really great! Its a cool venue, the weather was mild (even though it rained surprisingly), and their sound was amazing. I will Possess Your Heart was an awesome jam and they saved Long Division for the encore. The band's ability to play the complicated timing of their songs makes them stand out amongst other bands. A+++!
DCFC delivered a tight, energetic performance. Their sound was balanced perfectly and every song was heartfelt - each one captures a sentiment and tells a story. The Greek Theatre was a fantastic venue: its acoustics were pristine, every seat had a straight view to the stage, and it must have comfortably held thousands of fans, all who sang and danced along with the band. Openers Andrew Bird and Ra Ra Riot had a lush, lovely sound that engaged the crowd despite a slight drizzle.
This was a really great concert. The New Pornographers were a great opening band. And the fact that Death Cab played with the LA Philharmonic made the concert extra interesting. Really great concert.

I got there late, but managed to catch enough of Death Cab for Cutie's set to be thoroughly impressed. They're great live and you could just tell they were ecstatic to be playing the Hollywood Bowl. For their last few songs, they brought out the L.A. Philharmonic, which was a nice treat. Some of the orchestral arrangements didn't mesh that well with their songs, but it was still great to listen to. I still wish Death Cab for Cutie would have done an encore, but overall, they were solid.

This show was amazing. The New Pornographers were good, just good. Tegan and Sarah were also very good and funny, unlike other bands they had funny things to say which was enjoyable. Also, all of the bands really appreciated the venue and its history. Death Cab for Cutie was amazing live. The sound was amazing and not unrealistically good. Ben Gibbard is a great performer and has such a great presence. The whole band was just really into the music. Everyone knew all the words to the songs which made it fun. The L.A. I did not think that a Death Cab For Cutie concert could be anymore amazing than it was at the Greek Theatre in 2006. However, I was wrong. They started off their set list with Marching Bands of Manhattan and continued on by playing songs from all their different albums, including their new EP. The L.A. Philharmonic joined in the middle of their set and provided an amazing back up to just Benjamin singing my favorite song, "I WIll Follow You Into the Dark". The other band members rejoined him on stage, and they eventually ended with "Transatlanticism", complete with choreographed fireworks.

Death Cab played a great mix of songs. Every time I thought they had played all of my favorites, they pulled out another song I had forgotten about. The acoustic numbers - "Follow You into the Dark" for example - were great. I really enjoyed singing along to their hits. The half of the show that they played with the LA Phil was a treat as well.
