Very disappointed in both comedians performances. It appeared that Paul didn't prepare any new material for the show. My husband and I overheard another couple state "He hasn't said anything funny yet". This was approximately half an hour into his performance. Dick Gregory made me chuckle a few times, but nothing to rave about. Maybe it's time for these icons to retire.

Saw Paul Mooney and Dick Gregory at the Howard Theater this pass summer. It was a SOLD OUT SHOW! Was ready to get my rolling on the floor, almost wet my pants laugh on and was sorely disappointed. Had went to another show and wasn't disappointed but that was before Paul got sick. Maybe he needs more time to recover or it could be his age but was not funny, he didn't appear to be himself or like was ready to perform. He did more talking to random women and came across as more of a dirty ole man. He rambled on about how much he liked prostitutes because they showed all their goodies, I kept waiting for the punch line but there wasn't one. At one point he even had to review his list of jokes and could be heard talking to himself about which jokes he did already.....some of which he hadn't told cus he was so busy talking to random women in the audience. Dick Gregory was the absolute truth! He made the show but Paul needs to retire. Will not see again.

Paul Mooney & Dick Gregory remind us that a black man in the White House cannot erase 400 years of subjugation of African descended people solely for the economic enrichment of those of European descent. Telling the tale with humor is how we keep from going completely mad over our mistreatment. This tell it like it is attitude must continue to be heard until we African descended peoples are wholly part of mainstream society. Keep preachin' my brothas.

Acoustics at BB Kings not so great with Paul Mooney. Not as much new material. Heard same thing in shows passed of at least 3 years, and repeating items throughout skit. Dick Gregory was dynamic. Still killing it at 90. He was the show! A lot of cussin', but content was all good!

Paul Mooney was a disappointment. He wasn't funny at all. He rambled his whole set. Dick Gregory saved the day. He was funny and dropped some knowledge. That's what I meant, the zero is Paul. The one is Mr. Gregory.

It was disappointing to see Paul Mooney struggle on stage as he did Thursday night at the Howard Theater. I have been a fan of his for many years and he has always been very quick witted, articulate, and had great timing and delivery. I took my 22 year old son to see him for the first time and I hate that this will be his impression of such a legend as Mr Mooney. His long pauses, slow delivery of limited jokes, and apparent forgetfulness of what he intends to say at times were difficult to sit thru. We were glad that they switched the order of he and Dick Gregory because Mr Gregory saved our night .. He still has it!!! Paul Mooney's managers and advisers should consider pulling him from the rest of this tour to save embarrassment for such an outstanding legendary comedian as Paul Mooney .. He deserves better .. and so do his paying fans!

The show was good. It was good to see Paul Mooney again. It wasn't his best performance but he still looks good and knowing he's been sick, it was just good to see him smile and tell a few jokes. Dick Gregory was amazing! It was the first time I've seen him perform live. He not only made you laugh but he left you well informed about what was going on in the world related to the black community. I definitely was pleased with the show. It was my first time at the Howard Theater and while it was a nice theater, I was very disappointed that it was scorching hot most of the show. The doors opened at 6pm but they didn't turn on the A/C until past 7pm. It never really cooled off and you could tell before the end of the show they turned the A/C back. The service was slow and sitting in a hot sold out theater made it almost unbearable.

Show- The event was not what I expected. While Dick Gregory continued to deliver the truth and comedic relief, Moody was a disappointment. He was heckled at and the audience had to help him with topics and subjects to generate a joke. May be age, however his manager should be fired. Seats- Tickmaster listed assigned seats and rows on the tickets. However, the venue was standing room only. Very disappointing!!! Customers beware!!!

While I have great respect for the work mr. Mooney has done, I was embarrassed at how he seem to be put there for money without regards for his aging health and very poor performance. However, the great Dick Gregory made up for my disappointment and dropped heavy knowledge while during do with humor. I even went and brought his book and determined to eat better. Thank you Mr. Gregory for all you and your wife have done for us as a people.

I wish so much this show had turned out so much better. IMO Paul Mooney rambled on and on and it didn't seem too much preparation took place for him. On the other hand Dick Gregory delivered and I actually enjoyed his performance - always makes you think I only wish the JN Productions and PM7 Ent would consider these reviews. As I've read past recent reviews re: Paul Mooney and it seems his performance this night was consistent with other's reviews. I don't think I will be patronizing again. On another note, the venue -Howard Theater - is beautiful, but had no air up until the start of the performance. The food and drinks ARE WAY OVERPRICED.

WAS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. LONG PAUSES AND IT APPEARED TO ME THAT HE WASN'T IN THE BEST OF HEALTH. ALSO HIS STAFF WAS VERY RUDE ESPECIALLY THE LITTLE LADY SITTING BESIDE HIM AFTER THE SHOW WHEN SIGNING AUTOGRAPHS AND PICTURE TAKING. SHE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE FANS TAKING PICTURES OF PM WITH THEIR PERSONAL CELL PHONES OR CAMERAS.WHEN A FAN SUPPORTS A CELEBRITY THEY OWE IT TO THE FAN TO BE KIND AND COURTEOUS , NOT PUGILISTIC.PM SEEMED TO BE QUITE MOODY HIMSELF WHEN FANS WANTED TO STAND BESIDE HIM TO TAKE PICTURES.BEEN TO A LOT OF COMEDY SHOWS IN MY TIME AND 95% OF THE COMEDIANS WERE FAN FRIENDLY BUT THIS PM AND HIS CREW SEEMED TO BE CONCERNED ONLY ABOUT THE MONEY, NOT THE FAN.

I loved Paul Mooney's cable special but his live show in Durham fell way short. He did not appear to be well. There were long pauses between sentences. There were a few jokes but I felt very sad for him. His team needs to evaluate whether he is well enough to perform live on stage. Those of us who love him want to remember his brillance.

I have seen Paul do stand-up before and, not only can he not stand anymore, he just was not mentally sharp at all. I think he WAS a great comedian, and I know he is undergoing some medical issues, but he should not make attempts to conduct himself on stage if he is just not medically able to do so. It is not fair to us who pay to see him. He needs to take care of his medical issues and get some rest. He had a great run, but now its time to let it go and pass the baton. Thanks Paul for all you've done !

I don't think Paul Mooney's delivery was on point. There were several times where after he said a joke there was a 20 second pause before anything else was said and he'd just be sitting there as if he was trying to remember his next line. Several people in the audience were falling asleep. Would not recommend going to this show.

Mr. Mooney is an outstanding comedian speaking from his perspective of life. After watching his performance on television, I was expecting the same stellar show. I learned after the show that he is managing a serious illness and applaud his effort to continue. However you can see a decline in his engaging the audience. I look forward to him returning to full strength and would see him again then.

Either Mr. Mooney had no script or it was all of the top of his head; which his mind was not focused on anything. I am a huge fan of Paul Mooney and was truly disappointed. I realize he is up in age, I did take that into account. But he could not gather any thought, any controversy, and no humor. His focus was not there. Truly disappointed.

Given the 1 hour delay, it was hard to recoup the initial giddiness and excitement that typically precedes a comedic legend. However, Mooney recovered well with his usual, understated sarcasm. His philosophy was so poignant, I found myself mulling over many of his highlights--as prose. I loved his schicht on Jews: "What is the -ish about? What does that mean? Does it mean that a Jew is 'kind of Jewish' as in sorta? Who is slightly Jewish? Does it mean you are Jew-like? Jew-lite?" He then transcribed the biblical reference. It was hilarious! Another moment: Mooney said, "Make no mistake; Jews might "act" like they're white, but trust me, white folk don't count Jews as white. They count them as Jews. Ask Mel Gibson." It was pure comedy--but an ironic truth. Great time, great seats, and as always, Cobbs does comedy and production well.

The Paul Mooney show was a disappointment. My friends and I were looking forward to seeing him and hearing his jokes but Mr. Mooney couldn't remember what he was supposed to say or do. He was escorted onstage by a woman (an aide?) and he kept talking to her offstage. He walked very slowly and had to be seated in a chair on stage. He was on stage 20 minutes TOPS, if that! Marsha Warfield came on and finished up the set but she wasn't as funny as I hoped she would be. Overall it was a very disappointing evening.

I was very disappointed on multiple fronts. 1) The venue was ice cold. The ticket taker said the cooling unit was not working properly and a repair person had been called. He arrived as I was leaving the ticket stand. I don't know what he did, but the venue never warmed up, at least not where I was seated. 2) Only one comic met the minimum standard of funny. And 3) The saddest thing of all was the obvious poor health of Paul Mooney. Clearly, cognitively he was not well. For the venue to allow him to go on stage was reprehensible. I wrote the Howard Theatre an email stating I deserve my money back.Everyone did. Still waiting on reply.

The Howard Theater has gone waaaayyyyy down! Theater was cold, service was terrible, food is catered now. Well folks, we all get old and will face health problems and will no longer be as sharp as we once were. Paul Mooney, while still funny, is not the same person he was 5 years ago. He had a hard time remembering his jokes and his time was too short. It seems if you talk to Mr Mooney he is still funny as hell talking on todays issues. But his days as a stand up comic are unfortunately coming to an end. I really enjoyed seeing him and Mr Marsha Warfield and the opening comics. I personally think a good way to use Mr Mooney is in a Q & A type of setting. He is still hilarious when it comes to that.

We were looking forward to seeing Paul Mooney, the comedic genius who worked with Richard Pryor and Dave Chapelle. What we got was a tired old man who sat in a chair and barely went through the motions, mumbled, started jokes and never finished them, muttered through 20 deadly minutes until a young woman sitting in the wings came over and led him off the stage like it was time for his nap. Mooney was followed by Marsha Warfield who brought the much-needed energy and laughs Mooney wasn't able to, but HE was supposed to be the headliner and came out before Warfield. The show was opened with three comedians, none of who were funny, but at least they seemed to be trying. Paul Mooney either wouldn't or couldn't. Don't know which and don't really care. We wasted our time and our money and will never waste either on Paul Mooney again.

Spent a lot of money on the show to see Paul Mooney. He and Marsha Warfield were the headliners and I thought they would perform for most of the show. Instead there were 3 unknown comics who performed first- they were OK as warm up acts but I didn't pay to see them. Mooney only performed 15 minutes and WAS NOT FUNNY!! He spent a lot of time talking up a couple of audience members in the front seats and it was like a dull stupid conversation. I paid for actual jokes - not a back and forth conversation with the audience! Also Mooney seems to be past his prime as his usual comic genius was no where to be found. Mainly I'm disappointed in BB Kings as they charged a lot of money for a show headlined by famous comics who were onstage for less than an hour. Buyer Beware the next time.

It was wonderful seeing Mr. Mooney and Mr. Gregory. Their essence is still evident. However, their usual performance flair was not. Perhaps age or something else. It was sad to see them that way on the one hand. On the other, proud that they still have stamina to continue doing what they love for their die hard fans. We love them always. I hope they continue to have the stamina to do what they love and fans are able to embrace them. If their future performance is anything like this past one, I would warn you ahead of time not to expect the usual level of performance.

Saw Paul Mooney at his show with Dick Gregory in Washington, DC and could not have been more disappointed. He came on almost 30 minutes late and did his entire set mumbling to guests at the front tables. I couldn't tell if he was even lucid as his eyes were half opened and he was slouched over in a chair the entire time. To top it all off he didn't even know where he was! Asked us if we were from Emoryville, which apparently must be some time near CA as he thought he was in Oakland! Yes, a whole 3000 miles away! He didn't land one joke, which should have been easy given the current political climate. I was so embarrassed as I talked my friend into coming to this show based on passed stellar performances I've seen of his. What a difference a few years have made. He is nowhere near the witty, biting humorist he once was. I sat through the whole performance willing it to get better, sadly it only got worse. I wanted my money back.

Paul Mooney is too arrogant to say, "maybe I can't do this any longer". In the past, I had high respect for his work. I've always loved his work. But he really disappointed me. He spent too much time in a one-on-one conversation with the guests up front. At times, it almost seemed as though he was dozing off right in the middle of his presentation. I expected him to talk about Trump and his foolishness. I understand if he just can't perform like he used to because of his age (I'm probably just as old or older). But I think when people are spending their hard earned money to see you at your best, that's what they should get. Maybe he has a medical condition. If so, I pray he will get better. Paul, I hate to see you go out like that!

Paul Mooney was great. He was a bit ill (bad knee or something). Jokes flowed veeeeeeeery slowly. It was difficult for me to stay engaged. Dick Gregory was a total disaster. It was so sad to see him like this. I have seen him many times previously and thought he was hilarious. He must be ill or something. He rambled on and just wasn't funny. I pray he will do no further shows as he wasn't funny. This was so hard to watch. I know we all age but atleast do so privately. Very uncomfortable show. His timing and wit normally amaze me. He had none of this!! I am not trying to hit him while he is down but ... I wish him the best. He will never get my money again and more importantly my time!! Get well Paul Mooney.. Terrible show. Paul Mooney looked like he didn't prepare any material. It was completely conversational with audience (which most of whom we couldn't hear since there is no mic in the audience). His jokes were old. They included jokes from the 70's about Sonny and Cher- nothing modern. He needed a handler to remember when to leave and when do certain things. I didn't laugh once. Dick Gregory is funnier. But show is observational. And again not really funny. Money wasted. I wish I could get the time back.

I think Paul is a great comedian. I really loved him in the past. However, I did not know he was suffering from prostate cancer. I think his illness reall affected his performance. i was not satisfied with it. i invited my wife who was not familiar with hiom and she was kind but disappointed.

Paul is too sick to continue working. There where pregnant pauses with rambling dialogue poor recall of celebrity names and events. Kept asking if this person or that person had died. Performed sitting in a living room cushion chair. The audience either left early or empathetically hung in there an gratuitous laughed for his benefit or encouragement it was a sad situation that ended unceremoniously abrupt with Paul having no clue about the multiple signals that time was up. God bless him and it's time to retire.

I don't know if my review would be fair because I've been a huge fan for years. I just regretted that he didn't stay longer. I enjoy his insights on our every day living and people. I also regretted that I didn't bring my book for him to autograph. He signed my tee that I purchased and a photo.

I had wanted to see Paul Mooney for over three years. I was so excited when he came to Durham, but my excitement turned to disappointment as soon as his part of the show began. He had trouble remembering his jokes, and what he could remember was recycled from years before. I believe that he is suffering from Cancer, so while I'm sympathetic to his condition, I would have still expected a good performance and some new material given all of the crazy things that's happened over the last year in the news. Not to mention, my cousin and I sat in front of two drunk older women who talked during most of the show. Relief finally came when they decided to leave in the middle of Paul's set. The theater and atmosphere was very nice for an older facility, however, the Paul Mooney show killed the experience.

We should have read the reviews first as we could have saved a lot of time and money. First the opening acts sucked!!!!! However, Mr. Mooneys jokes were all old, no one wants to hear about Mae West, or any jokes from the 70s. It was awful, he paused between jokes (if thats what you want to call them) for extended periods of time. It was actually painful to watch. When it was finally over he walked off stage with his assitance (using a cane) did not say good night thanks for coming or anything.

I went to see Paul mooney in Detroit and I must say just like the other reviews it's time to retire HE RAMBLED ON AND ON REPEATING THE SAME THINGS . He needed assistance on and off the stage The show was nothing like he use to be. I loved the location in Detroit and enjoyed restaurant next door. Paul Mooney is tired but he it's truly one of the greats. He's a legend but the show was horrible

I was so disappointed by Mooney's performance. His light has finally faded away in this show. He needed people to help him walk onto the stage, couldn't even sit up straight, and didn't know when the show was supposed to end so he stopped practically in mid-sentence! And don't get me started on the jokes. He made fun of these poor women in the front the whole hour and a half and kept repeating things and seemed like he had no idea of what he wanted to say! In short, Mooney seemed completely tired and worn out. He should've retired years ago. This was his worst performance.

Not sure what happened at this show. Don't want to be to mean and take money from Paul. I'm sure his loyal followers would still go to the show regardless of what I have to say. I'll just leave it at disappointing.

I came to this event as a birthday gift. What I was expecting, didn't happen. The whole night Paul spoke to two females in the audience. I felt like I paid to watch him flirt with females in the audience.

I have seen comedy videos of Paul Mooney and couldn't wait for the opportunity to see him myself. What I saw instead was a 72 year old man, who was unable to walk on the stage by himself, and seem to be under some type of medication, his memory was wandering, you couldn't hear what he was saying (perhaps, that was BB Kings sound system fault). Mr. Mooney did a 90 minute show and spent 45 minutes talking to a mother and daughter seated near the front, he was rabbling on, it's as if he was trying to tell some of his old jokes, but couldn't remember how they went. Then the show ended with a man walking behind Mr. Mooney off stage and then the theme music played and the gentleman and a female came out and helped him off stage, a wave of the hand was the goodnight we got. That was the saddest thing I had ever seen in my life, Someone commented, and I'm glad Mr. Mooney didn't hear it but the person said "your tired" , but they meant it in an insulting way. On the way out, people were commenting on the fact that Mr. Mooney didn't look well, as if he was sick. I plan on purchasing any material I can find on Paul Mooney i.e God is Black...and so is Cleopatra, and will try to erase from my memory what I witnessed on Saturday, because that was so very sad :{

What a mess of an evening. The food was overpriced and bland (10 dollars for a basic banana split?), the waiters constantly messed up our orders, the pre-seating arrangments were disorganized, and don't even get me started on the performance. Amanda Diva was hilarious, but Paul Mooney was frankly a let down. He seemed tired and disinterested throughout. His routine was less about current events and modern issues facing america so much as merely commenting on the people in the audience. I laughed heartily a few times, but I expected more from the great Paul Mooney. Maybe his age has finally caught up with him. Either way, I was let down.

me and my boys are big mooney fans, we waited a while to check him out live, but i think he is getting to old for this game now, his delivery was weak, the jokes were far in between, his energy was lacking, i would get a refund if it was possible, but i still respect him for what hes done in the comedy , still disapointed though

How disappointing I was looking forward to a night a great laughter with friends and instead got a costly evening of a drugged or just old man's inaudible rant, and audience taunting, that was painful to watch. I'm not sure if Paul is ill or just aging but he should not be on stage asking for money. It has to be the worst performance by anyone on stage I have seen in a long time. I have been a fan of Paul's for years and have seen him perform live in the past, but this was different man.We even spoke to the manager after the show who said "I'm only responsible for the food and drinks I have nothing to do with the acts". Well after spending $150.00 of my hard earned dollars for "bad" food and high priced drinks. BB Kings has got a lot of work to do before they can rank themselves as a great entertainment venue. So disappointing.

Paul Mooney in his prime is hilarious. Tonight, it seemed like either he was taking advantage of us, or someone was taking advantage of him. He had no show, he could barely form a coherent thought, and he spent most of the night asking the audience to remind him of very basic facts. Eventually, someone came out to pull him off the stage. After a few moments of outrage, everyone kind of realized that it had to be done, or he would have sat up there for another 3 hours, trying to remember what Shaq's name was. I don't care to speculate why he was in the condition he was in, but he was clearly in no condition to perform.

Mr. Mooney needs new material. Don't know if the forgetfulness was part of his act but it start wearing thin. Also, his hearing seems to be going. With all said, it was a good show. The seating and service at the Howard was terrible. The tables are small and too close together. The food and drinks are overpriced. It takes forever to place your order and even longer for your waiter to bring the right order. People were constantly complaining about the slow service. This was my first and last time attending the NEW Howard Theatre. The smaller comedy club are still the best.

Overall it was great to experience this legend live for the first time. I've been a fan of his for so long. Sadly old age is starting to wear him down a bit but his mind is still sharp. The only reason the show didn't get 5 stars is because his assistant didn't let him give us a more than an hour. In stead he walked on stage and took his mic and then the played the walk off music. Even Mr. Mooney was a bit dumbfounded but i guess he need reminders. all in all a good show and i can finally say i experienced one of my favorites live.

As much as I was looking forward to seeing him, he appeared to be ill and not his ususal self. He appeared on the stage by an escort and walked with a cane for support. I was used to his stage presence with him well dressed. It just did not feel that everything was OK with him. I hope he gets well.

His comedy is always amazing BUT not this time. He sat in a wingback chair with seemingly no routine to speak of, just laughing to himself and talking to the front row patrons. This went on for more than an hour and his stage handler/escort even came on stage to let him the know his time was done, Which seemed to catch Mr. Mooney off guard. The music started abruptly and out of respect I heard ppl murmuring that the show was "weird." The icing on the cake was the unbearable heat of the Howard theatre who instead of canceling they "told" the packed house that the air conditioning was being worked on and they should feel the cool shortly (never did). SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!

I had been trying to get to a Paul Money show for a over a year, but every time I got wind of his show coming to town it had always been sold out. So to say I was extremely excited to finally get tickets to one of his limited shows is an understatement. I bought tickets for myself and a friend and went with huge enthusiasm to see the legendary Paul Money live. Huh...so disappointed. It wasn't just that Paul Mooney limped on the stage, plopped down in his chair and stretched out like somebody's old drunk uncle telling incoherent stories of the good old days, not only that he sat there without moving for the rest show and commenced an unrehearsed routine literally rambling about the weather, people in the audience, and the noises in the background, nor the fact that throughout the show there were unbelievably long periods of silence while he tried to figure out the next thing to say; but the coup de grâce was when Sand Man (mystery man who came on the stage) walked on stage in the middle of Mooney's joke grabbed the mike out of his hand gave the stage crew the "cut" signal. He told Mooney to get up to which Mooney gave the crowd a quick wave and left the stage. Curtains closed, and no one knew what the hell just happened. A week later I still don't know what happened. I do know, however, that I was pretty let down. I won't be back to see another Paul Mooney show, and I wouldn't recommend anyone spend their hard earned money (which includes ticket costs and the cost of food and drink at the Howard Theatre) on a lackluster conundrum that is the Paul Mooney show. As far as Mr. Mooney, I don't know if you were a little tipsy, tired, ready to call it a wrap, or maybe experiencing an early onset of dementia, but if that show-for whatever reason- is the best show you can give to your fans at this point, then I respect you as a comedic genius and a legend, but I think it may be time to call it quits.

The show was horrible, Paul is an icon & well respected. He can still draw a crowd however the show last night was absolutely horrible. He appeared disoriented like he may have suffered a recent stroke. A waste of time & money, if Paul isn't mentally & physically able to perform; he should not!!!!! The comedy last night was about the family sitting in front of him. He mumbled and only spoke to them. He didn't mention anything about politics or make comments about recent events that have made national headlines. Very disappointed, I truly wanted to have a good time but I didn't. Audience members out of frustration started shouting out different topics to help him out & no, it didn't help. No more Paul Mooney shows for me! Save your money people, buy a few of his DVD's instead.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Mr. Mooney, he is an icon! But...Google his appearance on the Arsenio Hall Show, about 3-4 days ago and this is about what you will get from his shows now. The shame of it is; is that his people should not let him go out like this, they should retire him with dignity instead and not allow him to go out and ramble about anything. We still love him dearly but all you will witness is not the brilliance that he once had, but a shell of the man. He ended the show without even saying goodbye, the assistant just came out, whisked him up and left, it was surreal!

Drinks were good. Seat were great...Easy and convenient on the subway. Still a fan of Paul Mooney...it was late starting and he basically just walked off when he was done. No, "good night DC thanks for coming out". Made me laugh a few times...but he seemed to struggle with his jokes and started in on the crowd...which is the norm for comedians. I'd still go see him

It was hard to see a legendary innovative figure get old. What a phonomenal career, but his best is in the past. It took over 20 minutes for the server to bring anything. Probably won't go back to The Howard Theatre. Everything I attempted to order was not on the menu anymore according to the server. Spent over $200 and they kicked Paul Mooney off the stage 15 minutes before his set was up. I left feeling bad.

Paul Mooney hasn't completely lost his touch. There were parts of the show that were very funny...and there were other parts where his attention seemed to shorten and he'd ramble on and on about whatever seemed to come to mind. Paul Mooney still has a knack for impromptu comedy however. His interaction with the crowd was very funny. Overall, it wasnt bad. I'm a bit more disappointed in Howard Theatre. The venue is beautiful, but other than that I don't have anything positive to stay. First, the seat you've purchased and been assigned is not valid at the door. They seat people on a first come, first serve basis (which is ignorant as hell) They overbooked and had people standing all over the place. My view of Paul Mooney was blocked almost the entire time I was there, and I had to resort to watching him on the flat screen above my head. Service seemed scattered, and it was noisier and more disorganized than I expected. I was disappointed.
