I have loved St Andrews as a rock venue for almost 30 years - nothing beats a small venue, and the fact that I can get a beer without leaving the hall is the topper. I have seen many great shows there over those years, and this show was no exception. The Shelter People came out and rocked the house! I had never heard of them previously, but they were one of the best opening acts I have seen in a while. Then, The Sword came out and continued the aural onslaught. Loved it!

The Sword was amazing. Was my first time seeing them live. The band played a lot of their newer stuff and mixed in a few oldies. Perfect night with friends! Cool light show and backdrop.

DUE TO THIS SHOW BEING RESCHEDULED I WAS UNABLE TO ATTEND AND LOST $40 IN THE PROCESS. GOOD THING I LOVE THIS BAND

Show was okay. Definitely not the best show that I've been to this year, or at the Ogden recently. Not very high energy.

I love this band and had been waiting for it for 2 months(That is how long i had the tickets).Sadly the day before the event the drummer of the group felt he no longer could continue with the rock n roll lifestyle and quit making it impossible for the show to occur.I have been told to hold on to my tickets because it will be rescheduled .My fear is that with my very busy schedule that they will pick a date that will be impossible for me to attend. I am keeping my fingers crossed that i will be able to make the new date but do not feel confident in that happening. The Sword are a incedible band and it is truly sad that they must now endure this negative situation.

Obviously if you know who they are and have heard their music you're going to enjoy them. Just really good music. The Denver crowd was less than amazing but The Sword was well worth the plane ticket/hotel cost to get there to see them.

Fun show, good openers also, Karma to burn is really a good band and so is Mount Carmel. Solid night of good rock and for once a nice price.

Awesome show! Great venue. Could have reduced time between bands. The Sword could have come on earlier and played a few more songs.

What a great performance. Played songs from all 3 of their albums. Winter Wolves was amazing! They sound outstanding live (this was my first time seeing them). Such energy, and the pit was crazy! I'd see these guys again in a heart-beat! I hope this band continues to grow in popularity. They're great artists, write incredible music and deserve to be around a long time.

Third time I've seen them and they still rule. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is that I've seen them play heavier, harder, more head banging and ass kicking sets than they played on Saturday. Not that I have anything bad to say about it... I'll just save 5 for next time. They played good mix of old and new songs plus the Year Long Disaster cover "cold sweat" (and you should get the split 7" if you have a chance, even though $5 is a bit much for a 2 song record). Old stuff included, "iron swan," "freya," "how heavy this axe" (there is no other band that can rock a song about conan comics) and "winters wolves," where everyone in the audience howls at the wrong time. I don't know if the Regency just happens to have a fan blowing on the left side of the stage or if the sword put it there to keep Kyles hair looking like he was in a butt rock power ballad video the whole set but, either way, it was awesome.

There wasn't a bad minute. Opening bands were amazing. Excellent Sound Quality. Packed Hall. Very few idiots. Everyone totally into the music, dancing and banging their heads with the bands. Guitar wizardry and heavy/speed shredding metal. I'd follow this tour around the world if I could. Original, intense, with a bluesy/jam rock feel.

Retro-style metal never sounded so good. Big thick riffs permeated the air like a thick smoke. At times I thought I was re-living Dazed and Confused. Where were my bell bottoms? I was able to get close to the stage as the El Rey is a great small club. I only caught one of the opening acts, Karma To Burn, and they were a great warm-up and fit well with Sword's style of music. I am anxious to see The Sword again, but it doesn't look like they are coming back to LA anytime soon, what a shame!

This show was awesome! The Sword and Karma to Burn are the ultimate groove masters, the audience was really into it, seeing a room full of people all simultaneously rocking out and headbanging is a pretty cool sight.

The most impressive live act of the night was Mount Carmel. Karma to burn sucked. I've never seen a rock band as poser as this one. The Sword was really cool, but the singer needs to work on his live vocals a little more. He was sounding pretty weak that night. This surprised me because I saw them open for Metallica in San Diego and he sounded awesome. Maybe he was just having a bad night. Otherwise great show minus Karma To Burn.

This was one of the best 3 band combos i have ever seen. Kyng opened the night and blistered through a set that was both powerful and melodic at the same time. Once they started they never let up and that was a good thing.Next Red Fang took the stage and they owned it from the first note to the last.Amazing musicianship mixed with what could only be described as a pure joy of playing their tunes for the fans and with their friends(the Band). I was completely blown away by this group and think if you get the chance DO NOT MISS THEM.Finally The Sword took the stage and as they always have they played a tight intricate set that was powerful ,fun and intense all at the same time. The played quite a few songs from their upcoming release which was nice. All the guys from all the bands were friendly and gracious ,taking pics and talking to the many fans that come up to them after the show.Bravo to all 3 groups you are what makes music so much a part of what makes the world go around.

I've been into The Sword since the beginning, have seen them many times, usually as openers, and it's always an added treat to get to see them do a full set live. I love seeing a band that puts on a perfect show, and hope to see them many, many more times in the (used) future.

The Sword was amazingly tight. Live set sounded like the albums. Super clean. Their stage presence was just ok. Big Business is awesome but their live set sounded muddy. Stage performance lacked energy.

Missed O'Brother's set. Dang! Big Business needs a new sound tech: Their current guy does not know what he is doing. All I heard was fuzz with drums. It LOOKED like their music was good, but couldn't hear it well enough to be certain. The Sword: these dudes ROCK!!! Their set was unrelenting the WHOLE WAY THROUGH!!! Excellent craftsmanship and skill! THEY have a good sound tech: the sound was EXCELLENT, bud!!!! Please don't take too long to come back, fellas. Everyone GO SEE THIS BAND!!!

I really enjoyed O'Brother! They had an awesome vibe going, much headbanging, wow. They pulled off some awesome slowdowns which kept the heavy beat going, as well as one very nice stretch of intenseness, the full implications of which I only grasped once they abruptly stopped and went back to a soft beat. Very nice! The 2nd band I did not enjoy as much. I think the main issue was their sound balance, the bass was too loud. Sword was cool! They were clearly the most professional out of the three, but it was nothing special for me - I ended up enjoying O'Brother more.

I've seen the sword several times so I knew it would be a great job I've lived in NY my entire life and have never heard of Music Hall of Williamsburg. GREAT venue, drink prices were resonable , service was friendly, and crowd was very into it. Great show.

The Sword put on an amazing, sharp show...with high intensity throughout. Crowd was pretty insane per the usual for this kind of music so that was great. The only gripe I would have is that this venue cranks up the volume way too loud. It's a small venue and the speakers are at full blast. Not necessary for a venue like this...luckily I had some professional earplugs.

We got to the place early so we were right up front. When they came out and started to play I thought I died and went to heaven. Every single second of their set was amazing; they played every song I wanted to hear. Just one of those bands that are actually really talented out of today's music. Was our third time seeing them and since they were headlining this time they played for way longer. Amazing amazing amazing. If you're into old school metal you will love The Sword. Hopefully they come back to NY soon so I can see them again!

An absolute killer performance by The Sword. The Sword are one of the best live acts you can see. With The Sword, it's all about the music. The set list was stellar and they gave a great, high energy performance. The sound was generally excellent as well, loud but not distorted. Seeing them in the smaller, more intimate "Hell" venue was a real treat.

First time in 'Hell' at the Masquerade, and first time seeing The Sword. Really enjoyed the show, and the venue. Great room, I love small venues period. Made it to the front of the crowd, although at that point we lost the audio of the vocals. For real, you could not hear ANY vocals down front. Perhaps adding a P.A monitor behind above the drums would help, as the stage front hanging monitors just blast past you. Other then that, excellent. I will be back. Beers priced right too, no gouging. Thanks Masquerade!

I had never been to the venue before, so it was a new experience. The venue was bigger than I expected. It was roomy, so you could stand at the back and not be rammed from behind. I managed to inch my way to the front, which was completely unreal. The Sword was amazing! The played their entire set, no issues, and gave us a great hour and a half worth of new and older songs. Great Show! I recommend this venue AND this band.

The last time I saw The Sword was in Pomona opening for Kyuss Lives. They had a short set which was disappointing. They played really well that night and I wanted the chance to catch them headline. Finally, this show comes up at the El Rey. Technically, they are a very tight sounding band, but what they have that other bands don't and only wish they possessed is chutzpah! They churned out all the songs I wanted to hear from Age of Winters, Gods of the Earth, Warp Riders, and the latest Apocryphon. I was very glad to see these kids put on a great show. There were no surprises, and I missed out on hearing Cheap Sunglasses, but in my mind a neatly done set is a homerun.

First time seeing these guys, first of many I should hope! I had a blast. They played almost every song I wanted to hear, and a lot off of the new CD which I think is phenomenal. Great energy from the crowd too...looks like Sword has some friends in NYC! Come back soon guys!

Vocals were spot on. Mix was obviously bass heavy, but not overly so. Set was a fair representation between all albums, leaning more toward the past two (Apocryphon and Warp Riders). Very strong show.

I would highly recommend seeing these guys whenever you can and the 2 opening bands. They where all excellent. Gypyhawk,Eagle Claw and The Sword are incredible bands.I even ended up buy all of there albums while i was there. the venue however sucks.it was too crowded and you cant see anything with those brick pillars in the way. i hope i never have to go the this venue again.

Second time seeing The Sword, and they still bring down the house. They have a great feel of early to late 70's hard rock and metal that makes for an awesome party. They played some new stuff for us which sounded great, and their cover of Cheap Sunglasses!. Red Fang is was also killer, they have great energy on stage and a unique sound even among the genre. Red Fang is a great band for people who arent as into the sword and sorcerery themes. Openers Kyng were also a pleasent surprise. I listened to a little of their recorded stuff on their website and was not impressed, but they were good live. The production of their recordings strangles out the energy of their live show, and their drummer, just DAMN!

Excellent show from sart to finish. Kyng and Red Fang were all they were cracked up to be and more. The highlight of the Red Fang set was without doubt "Prehistoric Dog". The Sword set blistered everyone present with several new offerings from their not yet recorded album "Hammer of Heaven". After the sampling of a few songs I have very high expectations. The new album seems to sound like a bit of a return to some of their earlier sound which in my opinion is a huge plus (just because of the old friend familiarity sprinkled with heavy riffage) yet keeping the trend of further progression. Please keep the production improvements and root sound coming for a long time! The Sword's overall stoner/sludge/pure metal vibe is basically my idea of the sound I would strive for if it was my personal music to create.

Great show! My first time seeing the Sword live and they did not disappoint. They were super tight and the sound mix was spot on. Sounded even better than the records. Red Fang was also awesome, but the opener band, Kyng were the most impressive for me. The drummer's energy was something to behold. My only complaint was that the opening band was louder than the headliner, so that made things seem unbalanced. Awesome face melting fun though!

The sound at the Masquerade sucks. Unless you stand directly in front of the band, it sounds like a muddy mess. The Sword did put on a pretty rockin' show, but ( as I mentioned) the sound was not good. I guess that's just what happens in an old mill with crappy acoustics.

Roundabout
The band's music was tight and the sound was perfect. It was difficult to hear the vocals, but the biggest complaint that I have is that the band played as if they were cutting tracks for an album. There was little if any stage chemistry with the paying fans. Most bands who play in front of their fans , interact with them. The Sword seemed unimpressed with their fans. Too bad, but most fans are like lemmings and will continue to pay to see a band that cares little for them.
