Keali'i Reichel

We have enjoyed the music of Keali'i Reichel since we heard his first CD in 1996 on Maui. We were happy to learn that his concert at Humphrey's By-The-Bay would coincide with our short visit to San Diego, after spending 10 fantastic days in Hawaii. His voice is incredible and the Hula Dancers added an unforgettable charm to the performance.

Returned from our 10 day trip to Hawaii - (Oahu, Maui, Big Island, Kauai...7-day cruise + extra days in Honolulu) - wanted so much to see a concert like this one...but nothing crossed our path. We were delighted to find our favorite "Voice of the Islands", Keali'i Reichel in concert at Humphrey's By The Bay in San Diego! We have loved his vocal interpretation of the Hawaiian culture ever since we purchased his first CD in 1996 on Maui. The Hula dancers were a special treat for us too as they gave motion and meaning to the words Mr. Reichel sang. What a great way to end a romantic 46th Anniversary Trip to Hawaii and San Diego!

We arrived on Thursday and when we saw the venue, we wondered what this concert was going to be like. Chairs, plastic seats, held together with zipties. Outside with no protection from San Diego's wind, right on the harbor. But,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it was gorgeous. The wind died down, the night was warm enough, and as always Keali'i was wonderful. He talked, he joked, he sang favorites, but he also paid attention to the history, singing songs that were written more than 100 years ago.

His best show I've seen since he's been performing at Humpherys. We look forward to attending his shows, If you want to see and hear true hawaiian music and dance don't miss Keali'i Reichel.

His show wax great. He is very enetertaining his dancers are wonderful and he has the most amazing voice.

Great combination of chant, traditional, and beautiful hula. Lots of new and not so recongnizablesongs, medleys. We'll be back!

Another outstanding presentation of Hawaiian Mele and Hula by Keali'i Reichel. He is by far the best at this combination. The experience was increased by the intimate venue of Humphrey's concert area. We will return for many more concerts at Humphrey's

The show was a big hit! He sang songs I haven't heard him sing and took my family back stage so they can meet and talk to him.

The concert on Friday was good. My wife and I have seen Kealii many times here on the mainland and in Hawaii. Kealii was suffering from a cold, and it showed somewhat. I thought his voice wavered during the first few meles, but then it was back to the old Kealii. I felt the evening was rushed. There was no intermission, and his concert was under 90 minutes. Plus, the last few times the stage was filled with Hawaiian plants and flowers. Not this time. The stage was rather bare. Plus, in the past, Kealii would walk through the audience and connect with his fans. Not this time. :(

A remarkable, amazing, and authentic evening! We look forward to his next Humphries event!

As usual, Keali'i put on an outstanding show! A mix of old favorites and new material made up his set list. The dancers of Halau Kealaokamaile were stunningly beautiful.

show was great sound and lighting great what a wonderful place to watch a concert.

As always his concert was amazing. Everything was perfect ...the music, the singing and the hula dancing. His voice is amazing and you just fall in love with the songs. The hula dancers were perfectly coordinated, beautiful and graceful. The musicians are very talented as well. I brought several family members and co workers. Everyone loved it. As if all that wasn't enough he is a wonderful entertainer engaging the audience through out the show. He was very gracious with his time signing calenders and posing for pictures with a huge line of fans. I have been to many of his concerts, this one was definately in the top two. If you missed it then you truely missed an exceptional event.

The concert was beautiful and really enjoyable. The music was fabulous and so were the dancers. I love the proximity of the Gammage Concert hall to the restaurants in downtown Tempe, but the facility needs far more bathrooms for intermission.

We have been to several Keali'i Reichel concerts through the years, but it's been a couple of years since our last one. The concert itself was great and slightly different since the last time we saw him so we really enjoyed it. Keali'i announced that he will be slowing down his performances in the future so we felt lucky to have seen him here since we were only visiting Phoenix for Spring Training. The only problem we found was that the Grammage Center waited until 15 minutes before showtime to seat the entire Center. Luckily, everyone made it to their seats and the show started on time with the emcee making conversation until just about everyone was in their seats. No explanation was given as to why they delayed seating everyone.

I lived on the Windward side of Oahu for almost nine years - my heart and soul remain there. I saw Keali'i Reichel at the Waikiki Shell when I first arrived there12 years ago. I thought nothing could match that performance, but this one did. The venue wasn't the same, but the performance truly made up for it. Two and a half hours of Keali'i and hula were magnificent. For a period of time I could almost feel the Kona breezes, remember sitting in a little restaurant in Pai'ia on Maui, felt the sand between my toes, and reminded myself why I miss my Hawaii Nei so much. Mahalo for a beautiful, funny, Aloha evening.

I loved the concert, something i thought id never get to see! Kealii Reichel is so talented and i am honored my son has the same name. i hope this event comes back to phoenix i will bring more people to enjoy it!

I flew in from Dallas TX to Phoenix, AZ to see him perform again. In addition to a unforgettable performance on Saturday night, he taught classes on Chat and Hula the next day for anyone who wanted to learn more about the traditional culture of Hawaii. The first time I saw him I flew to Maui for a concert at the Maui Convention Center to raise funds for his halau performances at the Merry Monarch festival. That concert was totally different and totally unforgettable as well. If you want to see the best of the best, someone with a total commitment to the art and the people, see him.

The experience was even better than I had anticipated. The music was warm, presented with feeling, and sounds as if it was sung from the soul. The dancers were lovely and Keali'i moved you from laughing to somber tears. I would recommend this concert again and again!

Two and a half hours of entertainment from an amazing performer. Hopefully, he will return soon to ASU Gammage

What a wonderful show. Very laid back and very musical. We loved it.

Perfect night after the Aloha festival-great concert.

My Parents and I love Keali'i Reichel's music very much. When we heard he would be in Tempe during the AZ Aloha Festival I got tickets and made plans to be in that area. My Parent's have their 47th Anniversary this months and they said this was the BEST Anniversary present ever. The only thing we did not like about the concert was with the Theater itself. We were told, before entering and a ticket scan, that food would be available inside. The only food available was chips and candy.

My family and I lived in the Hawaiian islands for many many years, Keali'i is by far the top singer, dancer, chanter, entertainer of all the Hawaiian islands, when we heard him tell the audience that he was going to retire or at least cut back, tears came to our eyes, Keali'i is an outstanding musician with a voice sent down from the heavens. we love him so very much

An outstandingperformance. This is the 4th time we have seen him live, and each show is better than the last.

I have listened to Keali'i Reichel for years and found his CD's enchanting, but was concerned that his concert wouldn't be the same as sometimes artists aren't as good live. HE WAS! He was just as good live and the whole evening was funny, spiritual and enchanting. Couldn't be happier.

My husband & I truly enjoyed the whole show. All of the sonegs & dancers we're beautiful. We would see him in concert again if he came back or when we are in Maui.

What a great performer. I have seen Keil'i Reichel perform once before. He is a true entertainer and his group of dancers and background musicians were equally awesome. I hope he comes back again. We need more of the Island Style music.

Top notch performance by Keali'i and his musicians and dancers. Don't know how it could have been better.

Incredible evening--the time went by so quickly! Would like to see more Hawaiian presentations by Keali'i and/or other entertainers. Having lived in Hawaii, the evening was very stimulating and touching to the soul.

The music and dance was awesome. I would go again if I have a chance.

Keali'i Reichel has the most gorgeous singing voice. I love to hear him sing in Hawaiian. He also had the most graceful dancers with him wearing lovely Hawaiian costumes. Keali'i was also very funny as he told stories of his life making his concert an overall joyous experience and worth every penney. His band members were exquisite musicians. The refreshment Keali'i brought to the audience made for an enthusiastic crowd as they went wild with clapping, whistling, and yelling out sentiments of joy and excitement! Keali'i got a standing ovation. Not only was the concert exciting, refreshing, and joyous, but each person left having been educated on Hawaiian music, dance, and culture. Keali'i's love for Hawaiian ways was infectious.

It was awesome and it has nothing to do with the venue. He rocks and I enjoyed going back to my Hawaiian roots being here in the mainland.

Loved loved loved Keali'i Reichel and the dancers. We could only afford 2nd balcony seats and the sound system was horrible up there for the speaking voices. His music was wonderful as it floated up to where we were, but missed about 95% of the dialogue which was very disappointing. It seemed a bit better the 2nd half, but still poor at best. As for the music - it put me right back in the islands and was a delightful evening.

Oct 1, 2010 (Humphreys in San Diego). I just so happened to log on the Wed. before his show just to "see" him and listen to him. I lived on Maui for 6 years and have missed the island dearly (had to come here to UCLA for medical treatment) plan to go back to island. Anyway....I have missed him dearly. He is an incredible man. Although, at his show he did mention "he was just like one of us". He feels no different from anyone else. He is just so down to earth, and has such a soothing voice/music. I LOVE listening (and looking..ha ha ;) at him!!!!! Back to the Wed before the show, I definately thought he would be sold out. I called and ended up getting the room/dinner/show package. I drove all the way from Lompoc, CA (Santa Barbara Co.) to see him that Fri. It feels as if it was a dream! I had the most awesome room, above the concert area. Keali'i will always be one of my favorites. He made me miss Maui sooooo much and makes me want to get back there that much sooner. I'm hoping UCLA will be done with me so I can get back to the island I love and be around an awesome man/musician more often and not have to drive so far! I'm still used to island driving!!! Much mahalo's Keali'i.....an awesome show done once again! And, also to all the beautiful men and women backup/dancers/etc. They make a lot of it happen as well. Soooooo beautiful. Mahalo for such a wonderful evening and a "trip" back to the island. No ka oi! Always and forever!

Keali`i Reichel again came and conquered. Even though he had a bit of the flu he performed as well as any other time I had seen him in concert. I am from Lahaina, Maui and have watched him grow in both the hula world and the entertainment business. Keali`i does not dissapoint his audience. He truly is one of our (Hawai`i) greatest entertainers ever produced from Hawai`i. Keali`i's band and back up singers are top knotch. Amazing to the listeners ear. Keali'i opened up with a Kahiko set that was very much appreciated to see. For us Islanders who live on the mainland now, it makes us proud to be Hawaiian. His dancers were near flawless with the exception of a mistake during one of my favorite Keali`i songs "Kananaka" however, it was great to see they were only human and not papercutter hula dancers, which made them even better. When his dancers danced the Merrie Monarch song they danced to in competition, they were flawless. Speaking of flawless, Keali`i's cousin, Henohea Kane danced, she showed why she became Miss Aloha 2009. Not only was she as graceful as graceful could be, she showed her inner beauty was matched by her outer beauty. Truly an awesome performance. Definitley 5 stars.

Thankful to have been able to travel to San Diego to see Keali'i in concert with his amazing musicians, backup singers and hula dancers. Beautiful event in a lovely outdoor setting by the water. This is our third time seeing him live and it is always a fun and fabulous experience!

My husband and I always go to his concert at Humphrey's. Even though he had been sick, he put on a fabulous performance. He's our very favorite Hawaiian musician. I don't understand why Humphrey's can't have more comfortable sitting in such a lovely venue. The man sitting next to me was half into my chair! You feel very squished! Drinks are not very good and overpriced.

Keali'i is amazing! His love for our Hawaiian Culture is radiated through his music and dance. Warms my heart and brings me home. Mahalo Nui Keali'i, you are a gift to Hawaii!

The venue Humphrey's Concerts by the Bay was really great. Not too small and most certainly not too big either! Perfect setting off the bay! This was also an amazing show from both Keali'i and his hula dancers. The voice even with a cold of Keali' was gravitating and the hula dancers were mesmerizing! The dancers were beautiful and flawless.

I have been on the lookout for an opportunity to attend one of Kealii Reichel's concerts for MORE THAN A DECADE (not kidding) and jumped on tickets when I saw this venue listed, even though it meant flying in from Alaska. We made a weekend of it, stayed at the resort, did some sightseeing, visited with family, warmed up a bit, and had a great time. The concert wasn't as long as I would have liked (I could have listened for hours) but, especially considering he was a bit under the weather, it was fantastic, first note to last chorus of "Hawaii Aloha." Even my daughter had tears in her eyes (not since Rod Stewart, singing "Forever Young" in Vegas)! Yes, I'd go again. In a heartbeat.

Anyone familiar with who Keali i Reichel is knows he puts on a fantastic performance of music, hula, humor. This show was no exception.

His voice, his musical talent, his dancing all amazing. A beautiful touching show set in a perfect atmosphere at Humphreys. On the bay, plumeria, palm trees and perfect lighting.

Great show. He has a limited band as compared to the past, and a much larger hula group that performs with him. Slightly different twist, but same great show. Concert ended almost exactly 1 1/2 hours after start. It felt like it was too short, but maybe that was a good thing leaving us wanting more!

While we love Keali i and looked forwards to this show for months, he unfortunately came down with a bad cold and probably should have cancelled the show. He only danced to 1 song and his vocals were understandably off. He also cut the set short at 90 minuets. At $260 a ticket, he should have cancelled and rescheduled. Also, the audio quality was lacking, the instruments were much louder than his voice making him hard to hear.

Keali i is a wonderful performer surrounded by lovely hula dancers and talented musicians. The music is so authentically vintage Hawai i without the show biz Honolulu tourist spin. He is into sharing his ancient culture with those of us lucky enough to see him perform. I would give a 5 rating except that he did a short show without his usual hula dancing (he did a small version). To his credit, the show went on despite his suffering from a cold, which is probably why his show was toned down. Wonderful anyway with a warm ending.

This was my second Keali'l concert, the last being in LA a couple of years back when he stopped by our row walking up to the stage to say hello. Impressed-I nice guy that loves to entertain and sings from his heart! As we traveled from our home in Atlanta it was well worth the trip as we had front row seats and when he sat on the stage to sing- my girlfriend and I felt like he was in our living room singing to us! Needless to say I will definitely go back for his next concert at Humphreys. A great venue as we stayed on site and even got to talk to some of his band members while walking to our room! Aloha!

As always kealii did not disappoint. Even with a cold his sound is soothing. Only negative for me was the song he felt had to be included making it less appropriate to share with our grandchildren.

As always, Keali'i performed beautifully. He has such a sweet, pure voice and a fun personality. The hula dancers added authentic Hawaiian aloha. I love him and the only reason I didn't give him 5 stars is the concert lasted just under an hour and a half and I think for the ticket price it should be 2 hours. But I would pay it again in a heartbeat!

Love the atmosphere, Palm Trees, Sea Harbor and the beautiful colored stage. The venue was cozy so no matter what seat you got it was a site to see. Kelii"i was not shy in any way entertaining the crowd not with just his amazing muse but his funny personality. The band and dancers were breathtaking and I will see him/them next time they are in town.

Keali'i, his band and lovely dancers made us all feel so special. I look forward to seeing them again. I hope they come back to San Diego!

I purchased 2 seats together in row 2. when we arrived we were informed that ticketmaster's seating screen was in error and showed us sitting together but actually one seat was in the very rear of the audience. we were relegated to sit in the very rear by the bar where there was all sorts of shouting of drink and food orders. We hardly heard any of the concert. We heard from people as they were leaving the leaving at the end of the performance that they really enjoyed hearing Keali'i Reichel. I sorry we didn't get that experience also and we paid a premium price of 129.20$ for the seats we never got.

My first with this artist. Hawaiian friends favorite and recommended. Kealii's singing is very soothing and pleasant. Much preferred than high energy artists. After week of work, this is much more anticipated and enjoyable.

We enjoyed the music and his unique sense of humor

It was our first time seeing Keali'li and we were NOT disappointed. We had 4th row center seats and couldn't have been happier with the show and his performance. Will definitely see him again when he returns to Humphrey's. If you can swing it, purchase the dinner/hotel/concert package. It was wonderful. (We live in SD, too). Our dinner was outstanding (5 stars) and our upstairs hotel room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop all night. Everyone we encountered during the concert night and throughout the next day went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and fully accommodated. We definitely recommend this venue/concert, but most of all, the amazing way that Keali'i brought Hawaii to us Mainlanders.... Mahalo, Keali'i!

Even though he came to L.A. with a cold and his voice wasn't as clear, his attitude and grace, humor and song selection was perfect. Not many would have even noticed his cold other than he stated he had been a tad hoarse. Humphreys is a great venue because wherever you sit, you're collectively close however the seating was flat and tall people were in front and we were not able to see as well and enjoy the visuals, the hula dances, etc. Staggered seating is a must at these types of performances.

This was our first visit to Humphrey's. We took advantage of the Premium Guest Room package, and it was great. Everything is in one location making it convenient to enjoy your stay.

OK - the cultural aspects were quit good, the performance was average

Awesome show. Keali'i was engaging, funny and has a beautiful voice. His dancers were graceful and put on a great show.

This was my 3rd year in a row seeing Keali'i, and I have to say...this was his best show yet! Mostly because He sat on the edge of the stage and simply "chatted" with the audience for awhile. He also talked a lot about each song he performed, and he translated the songs into English. On top of being in beautiful San Diego, the venue is very relaxing, and his show fit perfectly into the atmosphere. Any fan of the islands or of Hawaiian music will surely love Keali'i's show.

Keali'i is such a passionate and amazing singer that brings you back to your roots if you are from Hawaii. From the "try wait" and bibadees reference to the hula dancers to all the little localism that make you laugh so hard. If you are not from Hawaii it is better than a Luau with some of the best hula dancers in the world without having to go to Hawaii.

Keali`i was in rare form in Humphrey's Friday night. I told the couple sitting next to me at their first Keali`i Reichel concert that they are now spoiled for future concerts! Keali`i's energy never waivered. He was simply adorable. I think his finest moments came when he strayed from his pre-planned format, when he engaged with the audience and let his personality reign supreme. His backup musicians are perfect every time ~ and add perfect harmony to Keali`i's lead. The dancers, always beautiful, were especially so, and it is exciting to see that the dancers have fans too!

Keali'is' warm melodic voice always delivers a taste of the Islands. When he sings I can feel that silky Maui air on my skin! He sang a great mix of new as well as favorite songs which he delivered in a very charming way. The dancers from his Halau are the best (winner of this years Merry Monarch Festival) and the feel of 'Ohana (family) comes through in all of the performances. Great band and backup singers. Keali'i is truly the best ambassador for Hawaiian culture, dance and music. He is the real thing.

Keali'i Reichel combined with Humphrey's outdoor venue (and the fact that the weather was cooperative) was a great experience

"Dis Bruda" gives so much of himself and his culture. He is keeping alive what some of us have known and lived even before Hawaii became a State. The small venue makes him feel like a close friend. We applaud his singing almost all of his songs in his native language rather than bending to the tourist garbage genre. His company of musicians and dancers enhance the island experience. Hope he is back next year.

I have been to numerous Kealii concert's all over. This was by far my favorite one. It was very upclose and personal. His voice is amazing.

Keali'i is very entertaining. Love the way he engages the audience with his storytelling, his humor, the Q&A session, etc. My wife and I love his music so we pretty much knew what to expect there, but as first-timers to see him live we were very pleased to see the hula dancing that was part of the program. Will definitely make it a point to catch Keali'i again when he returns to San Diego.

He has an amazing voice that touches your soul and is a wonderfully talented performer. His shows get better and better every time he comes to the mainland. Keali`i no ka oi!

This concert made me feel like I was back in the islands. The music and dancing was incredible. I would highly recommend seeing him in the venue.

I've lost count how many times I've seen this guy in concert...dozens. This was the BEST show yet!! The "studio session" was something I've never seen him do before (missed last year at Humphreys.) So intimate and so amazing. I always get homesick for the Islands; makeup at his concerts is a waste of time, too many tears of joy. No ka oi and mahalo for coming to the mainland once again.

4th year I have been to San Diego to see Keali'i. What a showman, changing it up each year. He's really personable

This was our second time seeing him in concert. Wow! It was better than last year. He added a part where he sits on the edge of the state, takes questions from the audience and plays in an "unplugged" style! The hula dancers add so much to the show. It took us back to the islands!

Great show! We really enjoyed the music and the great stage show.

Xlnt performance with good variety of his music's depth interspersed with anecdotal background information as well as humor. It's too bad ushers do not remove obnoxious, drunken ticket holders who are very disrtuptive.

Totally hooked from his opening number. His voice hit all the notes, so melodic and so mesmerizing. He brought Hawaii with him and for two hours, you felt you were in Hawaii. The dance troupe danced so beautifully. His sense of humor came shining through in between numbers with such a bonding that you felt more like family than concert goers. The evening was spectacular.

Wow! I would rate this with more stars if I had the option! What a talented singer, kumu, chanter, and such a warm and friendly man! There is something about lovers of Hawaiian music and culture that brings out the friendliness and kindess in those around you. The people sitting next to us were very friendly. Did I mention Keali'i has a great sense of humor too! The venue was magical under the stars. Suggestion: bring a light sweater as it can get a little chilly.

What a great concert on Friday by Keali'i Reichel and his group of dancers, singers and musicians! His music takes me to another place, a place where I can feel the importance and connection to his Hawaiian ancestors, and the land from where he comes. Chant, hula and music together inspire me to keep focus on the important things in life...family, traditon, history, and God who created it all for us to have, hold and enjoy. I thank you Keali'i for coming off the stage to sing Wanting Memories with us in the audience......and now I am Wanting Memories to hold me untill I can see you again.

Incredily loving warm generous does a Hawaiian love. Keali'i is engaging, genueine, incredibly talented and spirited. Felt like we got a real dose of being in Hawaii. I confess his renditions of some "English" songs are teases. I love his native music. But his voice is so seductive i do wish i could hear more of English songs, maybe even one or two more. Call me selfish.

We had high expectations and it was better than anticipated. Seeing him for the first time we weren't expecting how funny & rascally (naughty) he is and we loved every minute of it. The music selection was well rounded & diverse taking in account of how much music he has created. His hula halau dancers(whom we met in the elevator) and his accompanying musicians were true professionals. The whole production transported your senses away to a wonderful & dreamy place. If you ever have the oppurtunity to see his show do not hesitate!

My wife and I were visiting Kona and found out that Keali'i would be performing at the Hilton. We immediately made reservations and the show was the highlight of our trip to Hawaii.

definitely worth the two hour drive to kona to see! I got to hear my favorite KR song, Maunaleo and the entire halau performing made it even more amazing! Always been a Keali'i fan now even more so. Lorna Lim just put it over the top!!!

Excellent concert with Keali'i and some of his halau. The music and dance were incredible. The dancers flowed as one. Beautiful music, outfits and dancers.

It was well worth seeing Keali'i Reichel in concert! I am glad we got reserved seats but I am sure general was just as good. I am happy he explains his mele so we can understand what he is singing about. I am so happy a handful of his halau was there also. They did an awesome job also! Can't wait til the next concert.

The Venue was ok at the Grand Ballroom at the Hilton and the concert was very good. It was wonderful to see Keali'i live and in concert but if you have his DVD it was much the same as that...that is the only negative i could say....other than that a wonderful eve to spend with Hawaiian Music and learning a bit more culture every time i attend!

Great show would highly recommend show to friends. It was A non stop show.worth every penny to watch we had great seats.

overall concert was very good. band and vocals were very good. everything we expected. thought we had assinged seats, buts we learned different when we arrived. biggest drawback was the room's lack of godd acoustical sound. many of the stories that he told were not able to be heard in many area of general admission.

Keali'i Reichel's concert, culture and hula was very good. He is a great story teller and is quite funny. It is too bad that for $85 we had to bear arctic cold as the air conditioning was on full blast at the Hilton Waikoloa.
