What a fun way to start the Christmas Season! My grandson s early Christmas present turned out to be great idea. He knew the story from the movie that he watched many times. He loved the musical. He got the jokes. The joy of the musical = the joy of Christmas.

In my opinion, I thought it was not worth the money. The only two actors who were remotely funny were the dude who played Santa and the lady who played the receptionist/secretary. The guy who played Elf, in my opinion was really lame. I would NOT recommend this show to anyone!! Plus did there really need to be swearing when little kids were at the show, I think not!!!!

I enjoyed the vocal skills of the cast, but the story line was lack luster. Buddy played the part with great enthusiasm and that raised my rating from 2 stars to 3. The costumes were cute. For the most part this was a children's story - but there were a few off-color lines (I don't know why?) Overall it was Christmas-y and that's always a good thing.

Amazing performance, very high energy and the scenery and costumes were top notch. The music was great - although I did miss some of the songs from the movie. There were a few instances where "mild profanity" was used, and I felt it wasn't necessary to get the point across ... especially with my younger children in the audience. Overall, I would recommend this show ... it certainly gets you in the Christmas Spirit!

Well-done adaptation of one of my favorite holiday movies. Leads were excellent - especially the actors playing Buddy, Mrs. Hobbs and Deb. The youth lead was very good as well. Fun music, awesome costumes and set and great choreography. A really enjoyable show. Only minor issue was the orchestra was a little loud at times and made it difficult to hear some really great voices and lyrics.

We attended Elf Saturday night and Rock of Ages Sunday afternoon. Rock of Ages was 100% better than Elf but it is for a mature audience that doesn't mind some risque topics and language.

We went in with high expectations, being huge fans of the movie. We left feeling underwhelmed. The show was good, don't get me wrong. It just wasn't as good as we were anticipating. If you are buying tickets because you like the movie, think again. The character we were most disappointed in was Jovie. We aren't sure if it was the actress or the way the role was written. She wasn't likeable. She played a depressed and almost angry role. It will get you into the holiday spirit and you will be satisfied with the show IF you go in with lowered expectations (relative to the movie).

Liked the music in Elf the movie but no songs from it were used in Elf the musical!!! What gives. Baby, its cold outside would have been awesome to hear but it was left out. Santa Clause is coming to town, was replaced by a song called the Christmas Song which described a song about a song. No Christmas Spirit there.

I have to say, "Elf the Musical" was pretty disappointing for me. Somehow, the movie just did not translate into a stage show. The music was not particularly catchy, especially the awful "Sparklejollytwinklejingley." The jokes were flat. Overall, this was an expensive endeavor for our family that I would not recommend to others.

I thought this musical was cute but I was completely confused by some of the unnecessary language that was used. There were many children in the audience and the words that were used at times did not add anything to the effect of the musical. I mean I have never seen a musical where the main thing I am talking about after the fact is the foul language that was used! Dissappointed that the musical did not consider their audience would have many children watching! Every time a foul word was used you could hear gasps in the crowd...

Elf the musical did not disappoint very true to the beloved Will Farrell movie but with some fantastic one liners and great original songs! If you loved the movie, then you ll be bored by the play. They changed quite a few key storyline elements and Buddy was annoyingly childlike. The singing was off key and shrill. At intermission we considered leaving because it was that bad. If the tickets were $20 a seat, I might say sure, waste three hours of your life. For $75 a ticket, I was exceptionally irritated and left with a headache. Of all the plays I ve seen, this had the most low caliber crew and set. Seems like a low budget play with poor standards.

We have a family tradition of going to a Holiday play every year, this is the first time we've ever left before the play was over. It was such a disappointment, over-acted, and felt like each scene was forced. For a family show, it was unbecoming to call the father an "idiot" - we know the movie Elf, so we are aware that he is not a nice man, but the play took it too far.

This was the first musical we have ever attended, the theater staff was very accommodating. Elf followed the original story line with some modern twists. Our 7 year old granddaughter loved it, there was a 2 1/2 year old boy sitting next to us who was incredibly well behaved and was clearly captivated by the show. As for the grown ups, there are some adult undertones that you would find in a Disney movie keeping it funny for all ages. The actors did an excellent job they seemed to be having fun.

Big disappointment. The actor that played the lead role, Elf, tried hard but trying to replicate the work of Will Farrell is next to impossible. The bigger issue for me was the multiple political statements. First Mrs. Claus was black, very good actress that did a nice job but Mrs, Claus was not black in the movie. There were a couple scenes were there were two actors playing obviously gay men hanging all over each other on stage. Again there were not any gay characters in the movie. Both are obvious, weak and disrespectful attempts to weave political statements into a cute Christmas story. I did not pay $80 a ticket to get a political lecture. Lastly the actors that played the mother and father were weak and tried too hard but my bigger issue was their constant use of the phrase, "oh my God". Not part of the movie and I doubt the phrase was part of the original script. And the theater was less that half full...no surprise There was some redeeming value in the show, George Wendt, as Santa Claus was terrific. The young boy also did a great job. Lastly the dancers were the star of the show. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and God Bless!

Eric Gratton is terrific as Buddy the Elf! ... and the remaining cast and crew do a fine job as well. The choreography, singing, lovely costumes and gorgeous set design and scenery also contribute to an enjoyable evening for both young and old. There are several " cute jokes" in the show as well-- though most of the audience in Boston did not seem to understand them. The entire cast and crew should be complimented on producing a delightful evening of entertainment -- a show that elicits smiles on the faces of the audience for the entire two acts.

If you're looking for a line-by-line live performance of the movie, you'll be disappointed; however, there's a lot of value by the added/tweaked scenes, and some more adult humor than the Ferrell classic. If you like the movie, go see the play; if you don't like the movie, go see the play!

I took my two granddaughters ages 10 and 12, it was their first experience in Boston and going to a theater. The Wang is a beautiful old building, the concessions were great, the price of them was reasonable and the flow of people was doable. The show was absolutely brilliant and really funny. The actors were great and really made the show come to life. One thing I would say is arrive early. We arrived to find everybody trying to get into another show at Maddison square gardens which made us late and was quite disturbing when everyone was walking in late while you tried to watch the show. It was also a real shame for the actors that everyone tried to leave while they were still on the stage taking bows. Having thought the show was great the actors didn't deserve people not staying to appreciate their skills.

I drove out to the Fox Riverside Theater to see Elf, the Musical. I was frankly worried that the show wasn t going to be that great, since I couldn t picture the movie making the transition to the stage. Honestly, the stage production was WAY BETTER than the movie! The music was cute, funny, thought-provoking and hilarious when it needed to be, and the character development was outstanding! Maggie was incredible as Jovi, and the actor, Eric, playing Buddy the Elf could make you laugh with just his facial expressions! Then at the end when Jovi s wish came true and it began to SNOW on stage, it was MAGIC!

I was hoping the musical followed the movie story line a little better and that more Christmas songs would be used, in fact they never used the Christmas song "We wish you a Merry Christmas" when Santa needed help getting his sleigh to fly. I think it missed the mark in several ways as it didn't feel very Christmasy at all until the very end.

Show was great...audience not so much! When did theater goers become so rude? People kept getting up during the show. The women two rows in front of me yelled "Santa" when the show opened, filmed with a cell phone, even after being told three times to stop, yelled at a sweet little boy behind them, and kept getting up during the show. Behind me was a talker and many people flew out of their seats to leave during curtain call. I am appalled at the rudeness. Maybe the theater needs to read the rules before a show so that all theater goers can have a pleasant experience.

I had no idea what to expect when I was going to see this. I haven't seen the movie in quite sometime, so I couldn't compare. That was probably a good thing? However when the Elves first came out, I was amazed at their performance and in the way they were performing. I don't want to say too much here as I don't want to be a spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen it. The actors picked for each roll was picked perfectly for their parts. The talent, singing etc was amazing! The props, the colors made it so enjoyabel to watch as well. If I could afford to go back and see it again this year, I would. We are big fans of the movie Elf, so we thought we'd give the musical a shot. The musical was funny, adorable, and filled me with Christmas cheer. I loved it and would highly recommend it. Keep in mind that they did make many changes to adapt the show from a movie to a musical. The general plot is the same, but the details are probably only 75 to 80% loyal to the movie. It didn't impact my enjoyment of the show at all, but my boyfriend was a little disappointed that so much was changed. It was still a wonderful show, so if you don't mind some alterations to make the show suit live theater, then you'll still love it.

This was so lacking in humor that my 10 year old daughter asked to leave during intermission. The actor who plays elf was way too goofy and the show had none of the charm of the movie.

My husband and I took our 2 kids (boy-11, girl-7) to see Elf. Everyone loved it. My daughter is still talking about it 3 days later! It had great music and the sets were beautiful. Fun way to get into the Christmas spirit! There were a few swears and adult comments which I was surprised by, since we went to a family matinee, but I don t think they were scripted. The rows are tight at the Wang Center, so I would recommend being at end of row for easy access/exit.

My whole family had a wonderful time at Elf. My husband and even my 13 year old daughter and anybody that knows 13 year olds knows that they can be the toughest critics of all. I would definitely recommend. There were people of all ages and everyone was having a great time!

I don't understand why people felt that they needed to take an otherwise family-focused movie and turn it into a more adult show. With Jovi saying she would be less b*****, same-sex relationships, multiple references to Buddy getting Jovi into bed..... it turned into a more uncomfortable situation for my little ones. Instead of us talking about what a fun show it was we ended up having more family discussions about inappropriate language and grown-up topics. I was also disappointed by the actor that played buddy who was very much lacking in the area of physical comedy. He had a wonderful voice but it seemed like he forgot to drink his coffee that morning! Not a whole lot of energy so it just was not very fitting for that character. Jovi's voice was fantastic. Overall, stay home and watch the movie.

The entire cast was excellent. Boise needs more quality productions with longer runs.

The Elf performers were incredible - amazing talent! The story itself was changed from the movie, which is understandable because of live performance restraints, but it was quite a bit off from the original story. The complete removal of Papa Elf from the story was disappointing. They also added a few "adult" innuendos in regards to Buddy and Jovie, which were not in the movie at all. It was a bit surprising and I wasn't prepared with my 8 year old daughter with me, since she loves the movie so much. Not sure why they felt they had to add those into the story since the movie is completely PG. The performers did a wonderful job, though, and it was worth seeing them perform.

Let's face it, Elf, the movie was hilarious! Will Ferrell is incomparable! Elf, the musical is a wonderful stage production of a very funny Christmas story. The set was beautiful, I loved the music, the cast was super talented, and I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing this musical at The Wang. I would highly recommend this musical. It's fun for adults and children, there are a few PG swears and innuendo-laden lines, most of which will go right over the heads of children. Go with an open mind, do not compare it to the movie, you will be disappointed. Just sit back and enjoy the scenery, the music and the magic of Elf.

Nothing stood out about this play/ musical. It was a total money grab; would have been happy to pay if it were worth it.

The additional language was crude, aggressive, and completely unnecessary--especially considering the number of children in the audience. The use of "sucks!" and "bitch" was uncalled for and the new tone ruined the show. Also, the lead actor who played Buddy called in his performance. He was talented but didn't give the part any real energy.

What a disappointment. We left at intermission. Perhaps it should be promoted as a children s only play because it fell flat with my group of adults.

Elf the Musical was adorable and funny! Superb performance by all!! Cast received a well deserved standing ovation at the end. I'd see this show again if it returns to Boise next year.

While the show was excellent - the singing, dancing, acting was outstanding - the swearing and sexual innuendo was a bit over the top. We had our kids with us and were disappointed in dialogue like the one between Buddy and the store manager about getting Jovie "into bed", or the final scene when Buddy talks about thinking it was a hug but realizing it was a special hug that produced a baby. This on top of some swears was really not necessary and could easily have been avoided - and the show would have been just as excellent! (and if they had been removed we would easily have rated the show 5 stars)

My boyfriend and I were extremely disappointed in this production of Elf and ended up leaving during intermission. I would've been impressed by this if it were a high school performance but given the amount I spent on tickets and the overload in advertisement, we were extremely disappointed. Very cheesy, NOT funny. Will Farrell definitely set the bar high but unfortunately this was not a stand-out performance. It is also a musical and sadly, all of the music was pretty painful to sit through.
