They haven't lost a beat, incredible musicianship tied to tight, clean vocal harmonies w/ a genuine love of their fan base. Best unplugged show I've ever seen, one of the best concerts I've ever seen!

When acoustic instruments are on stage, no plugs, no pickups but condenser microphones and solid wood gear this is an event today. Some 40 years ago it was the standard. Almost 1500 people in the audience had sometimes to do an exercise almost forgotten: strain their ears to listen to every note. What a difficult attitude for a Y2K purist: what a wonderful memory for a 70ies guitar apprentice who, thanks to this effort, had the luck to know the difference between hearing and listening to music. Thanks Chris and Herb.

Chris did most of his songs from his "Biddin Time" album with Herb Peterson doing backup vocals and blue grass style rythum guitar and the fanatastic John Jorgensen on lead guitar and back up vocals. They were all part of Desert Rose, so they are tight due to the fact they have been playing together for 27 plus years. They did a number Byrd songs, 8 miles high, Set you Free (John's tribute to Gene Clark) . Herb did lead vocals on a Dillards cover "Hey Boys" They did a cover of Chris and Gram Parson's Flying Burrito Brothers Sin City. Outstanding

the four put on a great show. Chris and Herb are always a treat and the addition of John and Mark just added another dimension to the music. They are 4 very accomplished singers/musicians who obviously love what they are doing. Like Chris said at the start: we were in for an evening of excellent music which would be a GREAT relief from the current state of things.

I LOVED the show! Enjoyed the hell out of it. With such a broad range of groups and music catalog between the pedigreed band members, it gave us such wonderful music from the past and his current album as well. They even used a 12-string - WOW!. Thank you for the warm acoustic sound that was played at a reasonable sound level!!!!!!! What a breadth of knowledge of song writing, story-telling and exceptional singers and master musicians, indeed! The harmonies were amazing. Truly, one of the best concerts ever, and I've been to many, many concerts in my day. I just sat there with a smile on my face and unabashedly rocked-out. Thank you!! The venue is FABULOUS. Not a bad seat in the house. Very warm and comfy feeling. High seat step so you sit high above the person's head in front of you.

I can never get enough of these three talents having followed their togetherness as the Desert Rose Band and now seeing/hearing them in separate endeavors. So, it was an honor to hear them at Scherr, a peach of a venue for acoustics and intimacy. The legacy of these three men is astounding and so refreshing to hear them together again.

Worth it to watch 3 extremely competent performers who like one another play older music that still holds up

This guitar-only grouping was technically stunning, yet pleasant and soothing at the same time. Sitting in the 2nd row, we were able to closely watch the masterful picking, especially with the mandolins. And the new music is just as refreshing as the classics. Recommend this to anyone that enjoys music!

Way back tunes from Desert Rose and more plus songs from new album. Wish more of it highlighted John Jorgenson's incredible talent since he was the real reason I came.

Don't know how else to put it. If you have the chance to see them but you're wavering - just go. And once you are sitting in the audience, prepare for chills - the best kind of chills - to traverse your spine as you listen to them perform their timeless musical magic.

First time that I was able to see Chris Hillman. Have been a fan for several years. They were super phabbo. Two guys on stage playing guitar and mandolin for the most part. They sounded like a full band. I enjoyed it immensely. Looking forward to seeing them again.

The Desert Rose Band's songwriting is superb, and they performed these beautiful songs so perfectly. Not only that, but we got to soak up several Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers songs too! Chris Hillman has one of the best voices I've ever heard, and it sounded better than ever that night. His "Turn, Turn, Turn" brought me to tears. If you don't know it, these are four of the best musicians in the country bringing not only the country genre but folk rock and bluegrass to their concerts. I hope you get a chance to see them in concert--my overall feeling about this show is "sublime!"

I must say that my expectations were more than met by the great concert last evening! Chris, Herb, John and Bill were terrific. It was like sitting in a living room listening to some good friends that just happen to be great musicians and singers. Before the show, I was wondering how they would translate some of the songs for electrified to acoustic. John Jorgenson's masterful playing of the guitar, 12-string and mandolin was as fun to watch as to listen to. I introduced two new friends to Desert Rose and its associated musical parts, and they are now fans, too. For me, I am now exploring John Jorgenson's other recordings and hope to see him live soon.

I went expecting just a concert with Chris and Herb, 2 great performers. What the show was much, much more. A lot of our local talent was showcased both before and after Chris & Herb performed. It was really a great tribute to Dan Fogleberg !

Chris Hillman and Herb Peterson are fantastic musicians and storytellers. This concert is a MUST if it comes to your town. No fancy synthesizers, auto-tune, etc. Just two awesome singer/songwriters, guitars and mandolin, acoustically. Doesn't get any better!!!

I traveled 1000 miles to see this concert during the Dan Fogelberg Memorial Weekend. Acoustic playing and singing at it's finest. They sing as one harmonic voice with a great respect for traditional tunes as well as their own. Supported before and after by tribute artists from all over the country, this was totally enjoyable night.

So incredible to see Chris Hillman, he is such a legend. I only took one star off because the person who conducted the interview asked such typical questions, questions fans like us already knew the answer to. I wish we could have heard more stories that aren't known all that well.

Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen have known each other for 46 years so if one drinks from the others bottled water, no big deal. The fact that they are still playing together is a testament to not only their personalities, but also to the obvious affection they have for each other and the music they love. Hillman was, of course, one of the founding members of the seminal rock/country rock group the Byrds, but maybe he really grew up after a dose of Steven Stills' in Manassas, God-know-what with Gram Parsons as a Flying Burrito Brother and with Pedersen in one of the most underrated country bands ever: The Desert Rose Band. Whatever happened, somewhere along the way he learned to flat-out play a mandolin and 6 string guitar. Then you team him up with Pedersen who played and sang harmony on just about every album I bought in the 70's and 80's and, as they say, it just don't get any better than that. They pick, they grin, they sing harmony with each other and then they actually look like they are having fun doing it. According to Hillman, they make up their show as they go, so the 25 song set featured a lot of songs you just knew they had to play to keep peace with their audience ("Tambourine Man"," Eight Miles High", "Turn, Turn, Turn" "Do You Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star" and "Have You Seen Her Face" from the Byrds), Pedersen's best known song from his collaboration with Emmylou Harris ("If I could Only Win Your Love" - Herb sang harmony on that cut but apparently wasn't credited with it) and his 70's solo album, Southwest ("Wait a Minute"). Manassas was represented with "So Begins the Task" and "It Doesn't Matter", The Desert Rose Band by "Story of Love" and Buck Owens/Dwight Yoakam with the "Streets of Bakersfield. The rest of the songs were a mixture of gospel, bluegrass and country and showed up when Hillman felt they should. Songs they have played before and should have this time too: "Missing You", "Love Reunited", "Change Partners", "Our Baby's Gone" but who am I to quibble with Chris' set list picking abilities? The Ark is a great venue to see a pairing such as them, small, comfortable as an old shoe and run by some really dedicated people who recognize that the soul needs to fill up on some good music played by good musicians now and again. I would highly recommend Chris and Herb and I travel far and wide to see them whenever I need a little boost, but if they aren't in town, I bet you anything they wouldn't mind if you found someone else to scratch that good music itch.
