This was a very special concert and tribute to the great John Wetton. Unforgettable performance by Asia. The video tributes interwoven with superb music made for great evening.

Everything about the band was awesome, and the set was great, the only critique I have is the sound needed help. The volume was a little too high! The keyboards and vocals volume should've been slightly lower, they over powered the drums and guitar! Other than that the show was great, the tribute to John Wetton was also very well done. Probably should've shown some clips wile the band was playing. Carl Palmer still has it! They're all fantastic musicians. The Q&A at the end was great too, I enjoyed it!

This was a tribute to the life of John Wetton as well as an Asia concert and I personally thought it was a great show. Pros: tributes before the show and Q&A afterwards with the band and others. Lisa Wetton playing drums on HotM. Carl Palmer's drum solo, as usual, was incredible. Sam Coulson's really grown into the role vacated by Steve Howe's departure and there was no loss of quality on some of the more guitar-centric songs. Cons: Noticeably absent from the video tributes was Steve Howe and frankly, anyone really major or famous. Most of the tributes came from folks many of us had never heard of and I'm SURE JW had friends with more name recognition than that. Lisa Wetton played drums for the last song but didn't do the Q&A for some reason. Billy Sherwood's still learning the songs and has a lot of work to do to come close to JW's passion on these Asia songs. He doesn't have John's charisma(yet) with this music catalog and hopefully that will change as he grows into the role. He has to be given lots of credit for taking over for not one but two of his deceased friends(Chris Squire from Yes and John Wetton of Asia). All in all, it was a show well worth the trip. RIP JW.
Palmer dropped his stick, but he's so fast not everybody noticed. Steve gets better with age. the overall performance was great! The concert was one of the best I have seen in a long time.

I haven't seen Asia since 1982 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. The band was in great form - I appreciate Asia far more after seeing them. (I'm more of an ELP fan than an Asia fan.) , but the sound techs seemed to have it all wrong, as far as balancing the various parts of the band and with the sheer volume. I don't know if the sound techs were locals at Penn's Peak or hired by the band, hopefully the former. If they were hired by the band they need to be fired. Asia:10 Stars Sound Techs: -10 Stars

I loved it. Super music, John still has his voice, and Carl is as good as any drummer out there, and was very enthusiastic. Steve is my favorite guitarist, and YES is my favorite group, but at times he seemed somewhat bored. Think of the music, tours and years he has experienced. Overall I think they were very good, but the crowds are older, and maybe do not seem as into it, but we are, we just show it differently. Overall, great show.

Asia is back and better than ever! The group rocked the house. John's voice was incredibly strong and emotive, especially on the acoustic numbers. Geoff was a showman as usual, and Carl's drum solo brought people to their feet. As usual, Steve's playing was right on. They rearranged some of their staple songs, which was a refreshing change, and included songs from all of their albums, including Phoenix and Omega. Loved the show and wish they were playing close by again. Only downside was that the show only lasted 1h 45m.

I enjoyed ASIA's initial short term existence, & am so excited about their Phoenix return - arising from the ashes! Having never seen them live, my moderate expense was well worth it. I'm accustomed to the more serious & sedate moods of YES concerts. ASIA is a very audience-interactive motivated group which makes the concert a funtastic time. Our comparison of Steve Howe's performance behaviour (between YES & ASIA) was also interesting & fun. Only complaint is that the amps were too loud to the point of over riding John Wetton's voice/word deciphering - par for concerts, but not necessarily a good thing Martha Stewart. Re/ Penn's Peak, we're certainly not in Philly anymore Toto; a fabulous view from the mt. clouds of the Lehigh Valley. The facility is very nice & worth the trip.

I have seen this band a total of 6 times including during the Alpha tour in 1983. Each time, they just seem to get better and better. The four of these musicians together is perfection on stage. The chemistry is unbelievable. Thank god they settled their differences and decided to reunite. John Wetton sounded better than he has ever sounded and Carl Palmer is a machine on the drums. Geoff Downes is always the showman and Steve Howe has to be one of the best guitarists one will ever see on stage. The addition of "Go" and "Days Like These" along with the hits "Heat Of The Moment", "Only Time Will Tell", and "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes (Extended Version)" was a special treat. Go see this band!!! You will not be disappointed!

This tour is a really nice Asia show, touching on many aspects of their career. Rather than dwell on the past, the band continues to make outstanding new music, and actually play it during their shows. The set featured 4-5 songs from the excellent new Omega album, including the stunning Holy War, as well as 2 from the previous album, Phoenix -- Never Again and Extraordinary Life. The band also dipped into their catalog to play two tracks that Steve Howe did not originally perform on -- Go from Astra and Days Like These from the Then and Now compilation. And they played Open Your Eyes from the Alpha CD, which is my favorite Asia song. Of course Steve Howe had his accuoustic solo set, and Carl Palmer his drum solo. John Wetton and Geoff Downes also performed "Don't Cry" as a duet. Most impresive was "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes," which started out as a duet with Wetton and Downes and came to a full electric climactic finish when Howe and Palmer rejoined the band. The show really came alive at that point, with Howe commanding the band at various times with his amazing guitar skills. The only negative aspect of the show was its length. At 1:45, it was shorter than previous tours over the last few years.A 2-hour show is really what these guys should be playing. Throwing in "Wildest Dreams" as a third encore would have helped extend the night. Penn's Peak is a remarkable venue for any show. I chose to drive from Philly to see the band their rather than suffer through a casino show in Atlantic City. Why don't these guys play Philly proper anymore?.

I can't say enough how great the Asia concert was. I had very low expectations because I thought they were a bunch of old folks. Well, I tell you what... they can sing and play like the first day! I REALLY enjoyed the concert. John Wetton, Carl Palmer, Geoff Downes and Steve Howe were simply out of this world! Their album Omega is OLD ASIA material. I definitely recommend this group to anyone over the age of 10 in the 80s... :-) ASIA ROCKS !!!

The 4 original members are still tight and the sound is beyond excellent! They had great enthusiasm and Wetton's volcals are still totally on. I felt like I stepped backi into time when I heard their songs from '82. Downes is in command at the keys and Palmer's drum solo is worth the price of admission. Steve Howe is a master artist and as I listened to his solo, I was mezmorized thinking I was hearing 2 guitars! YOU MUST NOT MISS THIS SHOW!!!!

I enjoyed hearing Asia play their songs live again and the venue was fantastic. Every part of the listening area had tables and chairs, all positioned very close to the stage, and a kitchen was also available to serve food. I've never experienced anything like it, in the presence of a major musical artist performance. Yes, I've been to beer halls before with live music, but this was many steps up from that venue. Asia sounded great and they played all of my favorite tracks from every album recording in which John Wetton performed as singer.

Wow! These guys can still lay it down. Anytime you get the chance to see Steve Howe, Carl Palmer, John Wetton and Geoff Downes on one stage at a smaller venue like the Birchmere - DO IT! Each of these guys individually belong in the Rock Pantheon, having them together again as ASIA is Nirvana. Carl Palmer is a relentless engine that drives this amazing machine. He still pounds the living daylights out of his drum set. Steve Howe remains the master on guitar. Always clean and perfect - his riffs ascend over the crowd as his fingers fly over the frets. John Wetton sounds strong on lead, and his base provides a driving low end that compliments Carl's drum play well. I still think Geoff Downes is the unsung hero in the band. His layers of sound make every performance so rich. I sat right in front where he was set-up (drumming my fingers on the stage...). What a show.

Asia was one of the "supergroups" spawned during the 80s, and a special favorite of mine among the prog-rock groups, second only to ELP. I was excited about the possibility of finally seeing the original incarnation of the band live after so many years. The venue was the Birchmere, which gives a clear impression of being a roadhouse from the exterior, but was surprisingly nice inside. [If you've never been there, which we hadn't until this show, you'll likely be surprised to learn that you can have a full dinner during the show. Weird, but it works.] Bottom line is that the band looking good and played well, but the guy running the soundboard was not up to the task. Steve Howe spend the entire show trying to figure out what level he was playing at and trying to get the techician to adjust it (he was difficult to hear), while Wetton's bass and Downes' keyboards were amped up to the level of distortion for nearly the whole show. Palmer's drums were about the only component of the mix at the right volume to be heard without getting lost or overwhelming everything. Added to this, the volume of the band was far in excess for 1) the size of the venue, and 2) the type of music. The rare songs that got the mix right were a joy, delivered with style, skill, and conviction. Sadly, in the end the sum was less than the parts.

I went because of the impeccable progressive rock pedigree of the members, especially Carl Palmer, who is the greatest drummer in rock history, imho. I had seen them before and understood that Asia is trying to mainstream their prog sound for a wider audience, but I think they went too far now. This is 1980's style AOR, with traces of prog if you know what to listen for. This may be a case of the whole being less than the sum of the parts, as they did not really stretch out instrumentally much, instead keeping to the structure of pretty mainstream constructs. I think my opinion was a minority one; most of the crowd got what they came for, from the reaction.

I saw Asia on their original tour in 1982 in Austin, Texas. Their sound was amazing. They were the best "supergroup" in my opinion. This band joined Carl Palmer's precise percussion, Steve Howe's amazing guitar skills, John Wetton's fabulous vocals that were perfect for this style of music, and Geoff Downe's keyboard mastery into an extremely unique sound. I still cannot believe the opening act was a juggler performing with Beatles songs in the background!!! I am looking forward to seeing the revival of the original four members of the band. I will be among the first to purchase tickets to the San Antonio, Tx. concert when they go on sale.

The one and only ASIA is to progressive rock what a mystical unicorn is to fantasy. They represent the quintessential of where progressive rock has been (ELP, King Crimson, and Yes) where it went (ASIA-1, Heat of the moment, Only time will tell) and seeing these four masters of their artistry live is something not to be missed. Most would think that ageing veterans of 70 s rock (real rock) would have lost more than a few steps, but the Bands 20 year Hiatus has shown that all four (John Wetton, Steve Howe, Carl Palmer and Geoff Downes) are in fact that magical unicorn or Green Sea Serpent that s still trying to catch that pearl. Catch the OMEGA tour this summer or you ll always wonder why you think great musicians (ego s) can t play together\u2026.there back!!

While "ASIA" is the band with the most remaining original members, "ASIA-Featuring John Payne" has the original bassist/vocalist that we all remember. "ASIA-Featuring John Payne" has rights to the entire collection of ASIA songs from the beginning to the end. So if you go to an "ASIA" show don't expect to hear all your favorites. They are only allowed to play a small era of songs. I did see "ASIA-Featuring John Payne" last year in CT. Incredible show, my 11 Year old son at the time had a blast. At first he thought it was going to be corny. Changed his mind when we were standing next to the stage and the guitarist actually stuck his guitar out at him and had him hit a string during the show. An incredible experiance. He gave him a guitar pick and signed it after the show. BTW, my son has seen many concerts up close and personal, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, KISS, Joan Jett, BuckCherry, Rev Theory(my personal favorite), etc and still remembers this as one of his favs.

Asia at the Saban obviously cut their set list way down. They didn't even play Gravitas, which the tour was named after. The concert was good, but we wanted to hear those other songs, at least four, that the group had been playing at all the other shows this tour. Plus, the new guitarist's family was in the audience - Wetton never even introduced him and we did feel slightly cheated by this show.

The Asia show at the Saban was the second of their 4 shows I attended in So California. The setting and the sound were amazing. The Saban is an old movie theatre that has been wonderfully brought back to glory. Elegant decor and the sound system is one of the best I've heard. Asia played with a lot of fire and passion that night...probably because a lot of fellow musicians were among the audience. I sat just across the aisle from Keith Emerson, himself! I had the VIP package for all four shows and it included attending the soundcheck as well as a meet and great and other perks. I highly recommend the VIP package. Not only do you get to spend time with the band members, but the Asia crew are pretty great as well, making you feel like part of the tour. John Wetton's voice is better than ever, singing with a lot of emotion and feeling with hand gestures that add to his story telling. Carl Palmer's drumming is beyond words. He's the Master of the Drums, a consummate performer, as well as highly personable and entertaining. If you get the Gold VIP Package, you can sit on the stage just off to Carl's drums and see up close and personal his incredible technique. Geoff Downes, although low key behind his stack of keyboards, adds the flavor and foundation to all the songs, as well as the background vocals. And I can't praise high enough the new guitarist who took Steve Howe's place, Sam Coulson. He may be young (27), but he plays with passion and intensity and will only get better with age, especially being around the other 3 Asia veterans. What I've also found is that Asia fans are the best in the world. I've made so many new friends among them on this tour, sharing our passion for the music and finding that we have so many other common loves and interests as well. So in summary, did I enjoy this concert? What do you think? Go see them!!! As an aside, my only criticism on this tour was that it was called the Gravitas Tour; however, they only played, at most, 2 songs from the new album, usually only one, Vakyrie. The whole album is great and I was really hoping to hear more songs from it. Perhaps on the next tour, hopefully next year, after it has been out longer and more people have had an opportunity to listen to it, they will add more songs from that album onto their set list.

The show was very good, but at slightly less than 90 minutes, I felt they could have played longer considering their sizable discography. John Wetton's voice was amazing, always was one of my fav rock singer voices. Carl Palmer still defies age playing with the same precision and energy he did with ELP. Geoff Downes is great on keyboards. The new guitarist Sam Coulson is a talented young shredder but does not have the virtuosic skills of Steve Howe who he is replacing. His guitar parts didn't really reflect the spirit of Howes style so it slightly changed the over all vibe of the bands sound\u2026.not a deal breaker because he is very talented but Steve Howe's guitar playing was sorely missed in my opinion. THey did rock though and the energy level and enthusiasm was still top notch even after all these years.

Wetton, Palmer and Downes were amazing, sounding better than the record. The new guy, Sam Coulson, fit right in, even though he s younger than the band. (I'm big fan of Howe, but the kid was super.) I have seen them twice before and they are better than ever. But maybe a bit too loud. My seat was vibrating like I had put a quarter in it. (Asia: the ride.) Note: Keith Emerson was sitting a couple rows behind me with some hot Asian babe. He was sign autographs and posing for pictures until he finally went back stage. Fun distraction.

They sounded great, but I think due to a bad WARMUP band, they cut their set short by 4 songs vs. what they were playing across the US. Very disappointing to hear on 14 songs vs. 18/19 the rest of the US was getting by Asia. They played ONLY 1 song from their new album(tells me something) and NONE from their last two albums XXX and OMEGA. Wetton's voice is as good as 1982 and the highlight as always was CARL PALMERS drum solo. Final point the band did not introduce or give any KUDO's towards their new guitar player SAM COULSON?? Very strange night indeed in LA.

Asia sounded great, but the set list came in at only 14 songs with no encore (most other venues got an 18 song set list). The highlight of course was Carl Palmer on drums, the new guitarist Sam Coulson was good but lacked Steve Howe's subtle touches on certain songs. John Wetton's voice was in fine form and Geoff Downes was his usual steady self on keyboards. Asia played only one track from their new album Gravitas which was a little disappointing. Still glad we went but Asia you need to play longer!

Asia was such a good concert - all of the band members are so talented-even the new guy(lead guitar player). The only complaint I had was the length of the show; they only played for about an hour and 15 min. which includes the drum solo by Carl palmer(maybe the best I have ever seen). Overall Though I was still very happy with the show- John Wetton's voice sounded as good or better than ever and Jeff Downes did a short keyboard solo that was great as well. This is only the third time for me seeing Asia in concert since 1982, and I must say that Carl Palmer stole the show this time. My thoughts were that if he ever left the band, there would be no more Asia. Granted, he hardly ever gets songwriting credits, but without him they would be nothing. The second most impressive one of the evening is the new young guitarist named Sam Coulson. Great choice in choosing him. John Wetton's voice and bass were very melodic as usual, but Geoff Downes looked absolutely ridiculous in an outfit that looked like pajamas. I explained to others that one does not need that mountain of keyboards because it is all about presets. So given all of the required presets (and with deep pockets), one might as well pick a different keyboard for each preset. Even back in 1982, a musician friend told me that one Fairlight could do the trick for live music requirements and the rest were for show. (The same goes for many guitars on stage, which have alternate tunings, but that is actually a necessity do to the many different tunings). Having expected two sets of 9-songs each, I was slightly disappointed to see that they switched to one long set and cut many songs out, but I only really missed hearing Finger On The Trigger. The new song Valkyrie also sounded better on CD than being played live.

This being my 5th time seeing this band with 2 of generally considered greatest musicians of the 70's Prog Rock era which I had followed from Crimso/ELP early days (and UK) and the later comer keyboard wiz, and all did not dissapoint. From the opening of Sole Survivor it was strong with of course always amazing CP percussion and the vocal prowess of JW strikes you right off the bat. G Downes maybe the lowest in mix sometimes but know he is great anyway and as he did with Yes always gets the job done. HOWEver, they miss Mr. Howe (which is why can't give the 5 stars) as he was obviously such a strong part of the total sound; the young SC did good job with fill in but is just not near the level of SH as we all know. That all said, the crowd was somewhat mellow for a Sat. night but CP & JW were always trying to rev them up and got it going to a pretty good level even through the newer unfamiliar material from Gravitas and of course later the CP drum solo always does the trick and into the end with Only Time Will Tell, Heat of the Moment and such. Still great and entertaining show from these aging but great musicians that hopefully will keep going and return to the area again!

The show was just over a disappointing 80 minutes long, far shorter than any concert I have seen before - at least for any musical acts that are relevant. The sound quality was substandard for a few songs, with the guitar and keyboards being drowned out by the drums and bass. The flashing of an intense bright light into the crowd was annoying and unnecessary, at least on the balcony seats. The rest of our row was complaining also. Musicianship was very good as you would expect from these guys. Song highlights, Only Time will Tell, An Extraordinary Life, Open your Eyes. The songs Go and Wildest Dreams sounded poor. I expected more from the band - more songs and better sound quality. Catch you next time. BTW - all their albums are great, especially Gravitas, XXX, and Omega.

John Wetton can still really sing and Carl Palmer on the drums is worth the price of admission alone. I thought it was a great show and took me back to the 1980s. Loved it.

Really enjoyed the Asia show again this year! John Wetton's vocals are timeless and their new releases still have that familiar Asia sound. And Carl Palmer is still an animal on the drums.

Asia has always been one of my favorite bands. I have all of their CDs (Wetton-era, of course) and had seen them before at this very venue four years ago with Steve Howe. Well, as much as I admire Howe, I think this new guy on guitar, Sam Coulson, has brought new life/blood to the band....They seem more energized....And Coulson plays great, with even more bite than Howe.....Very impressive....There were some nice jokes about his youthfulness, too!....So, I think the show was even better than the one four years ago: better set list (with a song from every album represented), better pace and energy, and flawlessly performed (the original 3 as good as ever, new guy works very well).....GRADE: A

Great show!! The band was is top form great energy!!, John Wetton's voice was as clear as ever and he was very interactive with the audience.... Geoff Downes was stellar on the keyboards, Carl Palmer was amazing (and due to the intimate size of the venue, about 500 seats) we could actually see him and witness his incredible talent, Sam Coulson (the new to us lead guitar) was a great fit with the guys.

Saw them for the first time 2 yrs ago at the same venue even though I've been a fan since their debut album. With new guitarist Sam Coulson (aka the Kid), Asia ran through all their biggest hits. Sam Coulson's guitar work was phenomenal. John Wetton sounded fresh vocally. Geoff Downes with his 9 trays of keyboards (yes, 9) sounded great as well. Carl Palmer never seems to age and played like he did 30 or 40 yrs ago. We took my 10 yr old son to this show for his first rock concert. He loved it!!! I didn't have to worry about wardrobe malfunctions or incessant cussing on the stage. Great music!!! Got to meet the band before the concert and they were very friendly. Nice to know that these rock legends don't have a big chip on their shoulder or tons of attitude.

Nobody warmed them up. Nobody had to! If you were looking to be brought back, way back, this concert was for you! From the moment ASIA took the stage, you knew you were in for something special. By the time they were through playing Sole Survivor and Wildest Dreams (first & second song), you were already transported back to the early 1980's. Wetton's voice carried out as fresh as ever, even supple at times. Downes seriously wailed on towers of keyboards throughout the entire show and Carl Palmer, well, what can one say? The older he gets, the better and faster this virtuoso gets. His attention to and execution of dynamics and stickery, is truly awe inspiring. And, new guitarist, Sam Coulson, was really a treat. So young, so, so talented. Even caught a few flavor swirls of Jimmy H. in his mix. All in all, a superlative night and a great example of why the 80's truly ROCKED!!!!

Wetton and Downes weren't are their peak. Palmer was sensational. Coulson -- well I couldn't hear him play since the bass and the overall volume was way too loud for the Red Rocks (Casino) lounge, even with earplugs crammed in my ears. The poor air quality was as expected - Las Vegas Casino style. Within minutes I had a stuff and runny nose. This was a 900 mile trip to LV on Greyhound since Asia never tours in Seattle, and if I only ever had was the chance to see Carl Palmer go nuts, the trip was worth it. I didn't know there were VIP options and TicketMaster didn't list them, so I'm disappointed I didn't get to meet Asia. Had I known....

Best of the four I've been to! When they first took the stage there just wasn't much energy until about halfway through the song. You could feel the energy build and the connection with the crowd was electrifying. The new addition - Sam Coulson - is an artist that made me not even miss Steve Howe. John Wetton's smooth and velvet voice during the acoustic portion of 'Voice of America' was magical and the transition from acoustic to full blown was intense and was a highlight. The only disappointing thing - only one song from the new album. Was waiting for 'Til We Meet Again'!!

I was really surprised that the Ovation was so small to house such a great talent. The show did not disappoint, everyone was on and sounded great. Steve Howe is so impressive on guitar and clearly enjoying himself. The range of songs was exactly what I expected, and I left hoping for more. I missed these guys the "first time" around for the XXX tour and am glad I did not miss them this time, they are worth the price of admission.

I wanted to see Asia in the 80's at the pinnacle of their popularity but never go the chance. Guess I am glad because the show was awesome as each band mate had their own chance to show case their talents indivudually! Vocalist, drummer and guitarist all had the stage by themselves and the crowd really loved it tremendously! (Wtton, Howe, and Palmer). The other area of interest was the House of Blues is a smaller venue and it lends itself to a more personal expereince as it felt like they were just there to play for you! Can't wait to see them again and I would recommend Asia to any 80's fan or someone who wants to hear and see some really good musicians!

It had been over 20 years since I last saw Asia, and these guys are timeless. They put on a fantastic show, mixing all their hits from the past with music from their new Album Omega. The 2-hour show just was over too quickly, but I was thrilled to have taken 2 of my children so they could see rock legends live. John, Steve, Carl and Geoff put on a amazing show, their solos were fantastic, and I hope they hurry back to Houston in the future. We will be there!

Howdy all, WOW! Having slept less than five hours, and definitely needing more, at this point in time, with the second of two East Coast ASIA gigs in less than a week, that's all I can begin to say at this moment. While I've never attended two shows by any band this close together, after seeing ASIA in New Jersey last night, I'm really glad I did. From their opening song "I Believe" to the last, "Heat of the Moment" John, Steve, Carl and Geoff led the audience through nearly two hours of impeccably played ASIA tunes from the first album to Omega. While the set list was the same as last Fridays Westbury, New York show, in it's musical complexity it could have been a completely different set. John's vocals soared beyond what we'd been treated to at any time in the past, and his normally exceptional bass playing was genius. Steve's guitar playing appeared so effortless that despite his typical complexity he could have been suspended upside down and it would have still sounded the same. Carl's drumming frighteningly flawless and Geoff's keyboards and fills rounded it all out to create a wall of music that only left you wanting more. Having given my extra ticket to my friend Jack, this being his first ASIA concert he was completely blown away despite temporarily losing a portion of his ability to hear, nevertheless gushed praise for the band our entire ride home. After the gig a group of fans had gathered outside the venue in the hopes of catching John and the rest of the band. Not knowing where to catch the bus back to New York City we could not stay as long as I would have liked. A few minutes before we were to board our bus, which ironically provided a clear view of the front of the Bergen PAC, we saw ASIA's tour bus pull out, and at that point my only regret for the entire evening was in not being able to shake John's hand, once again, and thank him for another phenomenal performance. Looking at the remaining North American gigs online when I got home, I tried logistically to figure out a way to attend at least one more, but the far proximity of the next two that I might have access to, Rochester and Pittsburgh, coupled with my responsibilities at home will not allow this to be so. If you have had any doubt about seeing ASIA this tour, but can still get a ticket, DO SO! Last night's gig was the best I've seen them in any way, shape or form, and this is a concert you will be talking about for years. Thank you John for the music of ASIA, and your place within it. Vocally and musically no one else out there even comes close to the place you are at as a musician! Hopefully you'll be back this way sooner than later, as the void ASIA has left now that these two shows are over cannot be filled by anyone else. Peace, Jeff

Asia put on another great show at Westbury with a mix of classics and songs from their two recent albums. Unlike recent tours, they dispensed with the covers of songs from their previous bands (Yes, King Crimson, ELP, The Buggles) and only played Asia songs. Their new songs were surprisingly strong, especially Holy War, which was an amazing performance. Carl Palmer's drum solo was also astounding and was basically a combination drum solo and circus act. Some surprising song choices included Go and Days Like These as Steve Howe didn't play on the original recordings (but he did a great job). John Wetton's voice was also in good form. The only negative comment was that the show was a little short -- 2 hours including a 20 minute intermission. Another few songs would have been appreciated. Also, it would have been nice for Geoff Downes to get a solo, even a short one. It's also a little tiring that they always close with Heat of the Moment. It would be nice if they did that a bit earlier and closed on a less predictable song. Regardless, Asia puts on a great show and they're all still fantastic musicians. I'll definitely keep seeing them so long as they keep touring.

It only took me 28 years to get the chance to see the original four band members of Asia live in concert & it was well worth the wait!!! I've been an Asia fan since the early 80s & was saddened when they split up. Needless to say, when I found out they had gotten back together a few years back & had a new album "Phoenix" out, I was elated! I missed them when they came through Alexandria, VA the last time but made sure I caught them this time! The boys sure know how to put on a show; they sounded fantastic! John Wetton's vocals were spot on! Geoffrey Downes keyboards were phenomenal! Steve Howe smoked on the guitar & Carl Palmer drum solo was off the hook! They are a must-see for Asia fans & anyone who enjoys a great rock show!!! Pick up their new album "Omega" as well as "Phoenix"; it's as if the band never split up!!! Keep on rockin' guys; you are awesome!!!

What a great concert. The drive was easy to Beverly Hills and parking in the underground garage next door was very convenient. It was my first time to the Saban Theatre and I really enjoyed it. It's an old theatre, Art Deco style, from the 1930's and was very classy and had a relaxed feel to it. They had a small bar area and a small concession. It's not the normal sea of people you get at bigger venues. I drove about 5 hours round trip to see Asia without hesitation. Why ? Well, 3 out of 4 of the original band members, thats why ! Plus, I can say that back in 1981, I have fond memories of listening to Asia's first album and have listened to them ever since. They are a band that really didn't seem to get the big acknowledgement that they should have. It's a solid band as far as music writing and performance. As far as the band....just incredible. They played all their hits and some of the their new music too (which was good). The sound system really held up - and it was loud ! The newer guy on guitar did a fantastic job. It was special to watch the 3 older original members get up there and still do it. John Wetton (lead vocal and bass), sounded just like he did back in the 80's. I was so impressed by his vocal endurance. It was like traveling back in time and a proud moment to see these guys together and still rocking. They have a very special catalog of music that probably a lot of people don't listen to on a regular basis. This concert was like visiting with old friends. To Asia : Keep going ! Don't stop.

For the most part, I enjoyed the show. However, the sound was very bad in the beginning: the vocals were muffled; and the drums were so loud that they drowned out the keyboards and guitar. I didn't recognize their opening number (Sole Survivor) for at least 30 seconds into the song because you could only hear the drums. I think the venue was the problem though. Bergen PAC is a nice small theater to see a show, but it's hit or miss with their sound system. After intermission, the sound seemed better, and the show was more enjoyable. Asia still has great energy, especially Carl Palmer on drums. It was a good concert, and if the sound was better, it would have been a great concert.

I attended the Asia concert last Saturday night at BB King's Night Club in NYC. I have always loved their music and they were in wonderful form. They played many of the fan favorites, of course, and some selections from their new album, Gravitas. I can't wait to get it because it obviously carries on with their style of melodic, progressive rock. All four of them, including their new lead guitarist, Sam Coulson, are excellent musicians. John Wetton's voice was smooth and strong on top of his dynamic bass. Carl Palmer was powerful on drums and played a long solo interlude as did Geoff Downes on his multiple keyboards. Be sure to catch them on this tour and check out their new video for the song Valkyrie.
