If you love the guitar, and a crisp soulful voice, Bruce will reach you in the deepest depths of your spirit. You will remember him always. And think of him often. I love this man. He is an amazing humanitarian who also brings major needs of the world to the forefront. Go see him. Buy his cd's. You won't be disappointed.

We have seen a number of Bruce's concerts from being with a big band to alone. This was the best. The addition of Jenny and his drummer Gary - provided for an extremely synergistic experience. The vocal harmonies between Bruce and Jenny were terrific. Jenny's extremely adept skills on the violin brought Bruce's already amazing songs to an even higher level. No one who loves Bruce - or those not really familiar - should miss a chance to see these 3 together. Also, he sang a couple of songs with Annabella Chvostek who co wrote the songs with him

As I'd never heard of Jenny Scheinman, I was open to her as a warm-up for Mr. Cockburn, but found her often laughably insipid lyrics and pretentious film noire appearance dull and contrary to everything I've ever felt and known about the incredible Bruce Cockburn. The good news is, if you can manage to sit through Scheinman's solo act you'll be treated to her either exquisitely ferocious then in her seemingly next breath divine serenity as a supporting player to Cockburn, who arrived just in time to not merely well-save the show but elevate it to the kind of heights the man achieves by mere presence let alone his lyrical and musical virtuosity. Bruce's percussionist/drummer is quite a talent to behold in himself as he seemingly effortlessly added just the right touch to every often subtle emotional change in Cockburn's song list, which touched upon all aspects of Cockburn's brilliant career. Arrive a little late if you want to, but do not miss Bruce Cockburn's performance on this tour. His trio is tight, and wild as a fist or delicate as rose petals. In this world of quite a bit less to be had at every turn, Bruce Cockburn remains a jewel to be savored and no doubt remembered among the very best kinds of things we consider downright lucky to have experienced in our lives.

Great performance by everyone. Jenny was a great discovery and is someone to watch. Berklee Performance Center is one of the best venues in Boston. Other than some times too loud and instruments drowning out the vocals occasionally the sound was very good as well

I've seen Bruce Cockburn before, and he always pushes his artistic musical limits. What an appropriate venue at Berkelee to wow the audience w/ fresh versions of some old classics and many intriguing new songs off his new album "Small Source of Comfort". This show was simple on effects w/ cool lighting to heightened the transcendent mood of Cockburn's rhythmic picking. With such talent at writing mesmerizing melodies and unique story-tellin lyrics, Bruce might take more time between songs to bridge the gaps on world politics and culture in an even more dangerous time. Bruce Cockburn is still very relevant and the music scene might want to take notes on how to transcend time through solid song writing and rich soulful melodies.

We are long-time followers of Mr. Cockburn and he always delivers musically and lyrically. We were delighted by the balance of older, more familiar songs along with the offerings from his latest album. Jenny Scheinman is an intriguing addition, her playing precise and contemplative. Gary Craig's drumming rounds out the trio for Cockburn's "band" on this tour. Again, the musicianship astonishes. We are looking forward to seeing them perform again in September.

Bruce Cockburn entertained fans young and old with his performance at Berklee Performance Center. He featured songs from his new album "Small source of comfort", but also included plenty of old favorites (Wondering where the lions are, Last night of the world, The Cage) Bruce's dynamic guitar playing was enhanced by strings (Jenny Scheinman), percussion, and the harmonies of Scheinman and Annabelle Chvostek. Bruce demonstrated all night that he is still one of the great rock musicians.

Excellent show. Bruce's guitar and vocals were great. I love his lyrics. Jenny Schienman who plays the violin in the band and also opened the show did a great job as well. To top it off, Bruce and Jenny came out after the show to sign CDs and stuff. It was a memorable evening.

Perfect acoustics and Jenny Scheinman shredding the violin combined with the powerful voice of Bruce made for an excellent show. New tunes were just as enjoyable as the golden oldies. A great venue and a great show.

Bruce was great, and Jenny was spot on. Bad stuff: the piezo pickups he's using in the green guitars sound quacky to me - not my fav. The collings sounds better when he plays that.

Musically awesome. Great complex melodies, sometimes too politcal. While the sound was flawless (and I would go again) there is something hollow in a band with no base That full bottom just was not there and I missed it. Was it the expense of another player or just the style he wants? He certainly is a master at the guitar. Very unique in very little tremelo or bends. Lots of intricate picking and crazy, crazy cords. Was waiting for the electirc guitar all night that finally came in the encore.

Jenny is a real talent. Good complement to Bruce. I prefer most of the older songs - i am a geezer after all. Only criticism was that the rhythm section was just too loud and overwhelmed many vocals. Bruce is a poet and his words do count.

Bruce Cockburn never disappoints his fans. The music and setting are always great, and we appreciate how he introduces new artists to everyone. Jenny Scheinman was incredible -- what a great talent -- and Bruce allowed her to shine. All 3 artists clearly had a great time and spread that enthusiasm to the crowd. We cannot wait for Bruce to come back to the Birchmere.

Both Bruce Cockburn and Jenny Scheinman are excellent musicians. I knew nothing of Jenny but her work on the violin and witty lyrics were a great surprise. I have missed very few of Bruce Cockburn's shows in the Philadelphia area since 1988. I know at some point he will stop touring--and that will be a terrible day! He is an amazing singer/songwriter who just never seems to tire. His lyrics are beautiful and heartbreaking, and he is as good in concert as recorded -- a rare commodity these days. It wouldn't suck if the Keswick stopped selling beer and wine, either -- just makes people more obnoxious seat mates.

Bruce Cockburn delivered a sublimely masterful performance at the Keswick Theater on Friday May 6. Backed by Jenny Scheinman on violin and guitar and Gary Craig on percussion, Cockburn delved deeply into his nearly 40-year catalog of songs while also highlighting several songs from his most recent recording 'Small Source of Comfort". Throughout the evening Cockburn dazzled on guitar and dulcimer illustrating why he's one of the most respected instrumentalists in addition to being one of the most accomplished songwriters. A very impressive performance that should not be missed.

Absolutely wonderful concert! Bruce Cockburn and band exceeded our expectations, playing every song perfectly and Jen on the strings added another dimension that is not to be missed. It was a great mix of old and new songs. Bruce has a nice sense of humour and interacted with the crowd making it very intimate. L'Astral is a great venue, our first time there and we will go back. Bruce seems to simply get better and better the older he gets. His voice and astounding muscianship are stronger then ever. For close to 2 1/2 hours he played and sang his heart out in a powerful and sweet show that included two 4 and 5 song encores. Songs of love, rage, heartbreaking questions, and celebration of the divine spirit blended together in a perfect mix of lyrics and composition. And Bruce genuinley seemed to enjoy us (the audience) as much as we enjoyed our night with him. One of the best live shows I've ever seen.

I have been a fan of his for many years but I have not seen him in 10 or more years. So it was my birthday and what better way to celebrate then in the 3rd row!. Bruce still sounds and plays great even though he walked like my grandmother, kinda bent over, but he had a great band and played lots(7)of new songs. Plus many old favorites. Don't miss him if he comes to your town.

Bruce has still got it! From his cutting political between-song dialog to ripping it up on both the acoustic and electric guitars, his mastery has not diminished. It had been nearly 15 years since I had last seen him,and the intimate setting really enhanced the experience. Go. Pay Homage to a master, for he is getting tired. Rockin', but tired. I would go again in a heartbeat.

I have been a fan of Bruce for going on 30 years now. He is a vital voice of observational integrity and a brilliant songwriter. As always, he calls it like he sees it. He played a cogent list of his old favorites intermixed with new material from his latest CD. He remains high-energy despite being in his seventies and it is clear his passion for the message has not diminished one iota. Indeed, he did an extensive encore of at least five songs after two full sets. Great evening.

First time at this venue, very intimate. Bruce and his band were wonderful! His nephew on accordion, back up guitar, and violin was excellent! He could make his accordion sound like anything from a blues harp to a keyboard and gave great accent to Bruce's songs. The songs from his new album were all gems and of course the crowd chimed in on his older favorites like Wondering Where the Lions Are, If a Tree Falls, If I Had a Rocket Launcher, and Peggy's Kitchen Wall. His new songs like The States I'm In, 40 Years In the Wilderness, and 3 Al Purdy's were more great compositions from one of the greatest wordsmiths, composers, activists, and spiritual awakeners of our time and a sure sign that Bruce is showing no sign of slowing down now that he's 'bone on bone'. He can rock a lead guitar solo with the best of them for ten minutes like the one's in If a Tree Falls or Stolen Lands, enchant us all with his spiritual depth as in Jesus Train, Looking and Waiting, and 40 Years in the Wilderness, realign our moral compass true north with his deeply moving False River, passionate Stolen Land, and enlightening 3 Al Purdy's, whose opening chorus starts 'I'm the product of some parents of the type that shouldn't breed'. His musical brilliance shines throughout, reminding us he is a musicians musician; he played stunning compositions on both electric and acoustic twelve string and six string guitars and a ten string ukulele and amazed us with his new instrumental composition Bone on Bone for which his new album is named which was reminiscent of his instrumental masterpiece album Speechless. Then of course he takes the time to visit with his audience as if and old friend visiting at your home and graciously plays five encore songs to top off a disarmingly unforgettable evening. Thank you Bruce!

I have seen BC alone (wonderful!) and with full bands ... and always thought I preferred him solo. This band and that night, though, I thought he was operating on a different plane. His bands have always been musically great .. but this particular band is good in the way that makes Cockburn greater .. and I loved all the re-interpretations of the songbook we were treated to. A stellar night.

Great to see Bruce again. Have been a huge fan since first hearing him in mid 70's. I thought he sounded great vocally and on guitar even though he is clearly showing his age. Biggest complaint were the losers in the crowd who must have thought they were at a lounge club and just kept chatting, laughing and otherwise disturbing those of us who came to hear a musicians musicain. If you feel like talking to your friends do it somewhere else. Otherwise the show was great.

Bruce gave an incredible, nearly two-hour concert at the Wilbur where he, and a terrific band, showed off all of his genius, with new songs from his latest, 'Bone on Bone' as well as some 'deep cuts' from earlier CDs,and classic fan faves. So much fun to see him let loose on the electric guitars and incredible musicianship, which did nothing to detract from the superlative songwriting and singing (he was in excellent voice, and seems revitalized, at 72!). All in all, a memorable performance by one of the premier songwriters of this generation.

We saw Bruce about 8 years ago at the Tralf and were blown away. This concert was not so memorable. His voice was week and off-key and he relied too much on his guitar play. We found ourselves bored and left before the end.

This is the first concert in my lifetime that I actually walked out of before it was over. There was very little interaction or acknowledgement with the audience. After an hour and twenty minutes he still had not played any of his big hits. He seemed very self centered to me and just did what he wanted and not much else. He gave a very lackluster performance. Thank god I had his music on my ipod to listen to as I drove home....shouldn't have wasted my money on the ticket!

Most of those in attendance seemed to be long time fans of Bruce Cockburn. But for those of us not familiar with his music, his words were unintelligible. Sadly, as much as we enjoyed the music we missed having a great experience because of the poor sound. Don't know if it was performer, his mike, or sound system. The show looked to be sold out. Room was packed. Jenny started at 8 with 5 or 6 beautiful, sometimes haunting tunes. She goes at them with a minimalist approach, pulling at just a few strings of her violin, showing how to move a crowd and create a mood with very little. The trio led by Bruce Cockburn began 1/2 hour late as usual. Bruce wearing an all-charcoal asian-influenced (kind of baggy) suit-thing. He was short on words, but seemed very into it, especially after the first two tunes when it seemed to me he found his groove. But what do I know? Anyway, the old man still blows me away after all these years. And the big gem from the archives??? . . . "God Bless the Children!" Wow, it was something special. Sounded so good. Here's the full set: Grim Travelers Iris of the World When you Give it Away Tokyo Night Train Understanding Nothing (Amazing how beautiful this was. He did something new to this one and it was like I had never heard it before) Rumors of Glory Littlest Prisoner (Jenny's song done by the trio) Lions Stolen Land (Again, with some new technique and an extended beautiful guitar intro that gave it a somewhat different sound and feel. I loved it! This one hits the soul. I can never hear it without looking back 30 years and wonder "what the hell have I done to set things right?") Look How Far Called Me Back (For the first two lines, Bruce sang "My so called buddy never called me UP! After two times, he figured it out!) Democracy God Bless the Children (The highlight of the night for me) Put it in your Heart Arrows of Light Encore: Crossroads Anything Can Happen It seemed to me that this group of 3 was impeccable as a unit. Jenny's violin seemed to accompany Bruce even better than the last tour and Gary Craig was on FIRE! HItting it hard and Smiling all the time. The sound they make is much, much bigger than you can imagine from a guitarist, violinist and drummer. At times it sounded like there was an entire horn section off to the side hidden from view. You could really see the connection between Bruce and Gary especially. They played off each other all night. They really brought it big time. By the way. I was told by the usher not to take pictures and there was no "meet n greet" afterwords. Kathy and I rolled into our Holiday Inn Express in Bellingham at midnight and hit the road for work at 7:15 a.m. Another memory on this great adventure.

Another great Bruce Cockburn show, one of three in Florida. Bruce always brings his best to a live performance, and this was no exception. He played multiple guitars, along with the dulcimer and some large foot-pedal-operated chimes. At 67, he is still a one man band. He also graciously signed autographs and posed for pictures after the show. I highly recommend this tour.

I was so pleased to find a Bruce Cockburn performance in NC. I've been a fan for many years and was thrilled to get front row seats. The performance was eclectic as expected and lived up to my expectations. Just Bruce, alone on stage with four guitars, some extra extra large chimes tuned to his guitars and a dulcimer which he used once. It is amazing that he can single handedly create the tone and depth that his music requires. He was in good voice and damn, can he play the guitar. Bravo!!

I have been following Bruce Cockburn's career for over 30 years, but have never had the opportunity to see him in person. So, I was thrilled that he came to Florida... and particularly this venue because it is so intimate. His show was just what I expected - Just Bruce and his instruments as he played some highlights from his older albums ("Stolen Land" stole the show) some instrumentals, and a couple of newer tunes. At 67 years old, Bruce has not lost the passion for his music, nor has he lost his moral compass, as his song selection clearly was representative of his sense of justice for all human beings and care of the planet. At one point between songs he explained why he does not have a new album out: He is writing a memoir - which, as he said, is "consuming all my moments of creativity at present." I look forward to reading it, and certainly look forward to the next album.

The venue's accoustics were perfect for Bruce. An intimate setting. He seemed to be comfortable & confident. The first set started off with three favorites of mine and continued with best after best. There was a short intermission, and he returned stronger than the 1st set. The encore included three more songs. I was accompanied by two freinds who had never heard of BC - they loved him! Bruce had three guitars, one resonator, one dulcimer, three bowls, and four chimes and played it all! His voice was strong and he held his notes and sang the lyrics strongly with no hesitation. The audience, disappointingly small, knew his work, stayed lively and encouraging throughout the show.

Pure joy! Bruce Cockburn's masterful and creative guitar playing with effects of chimes and Tibetan bowls was outstanding. His songs lyrically and structurally are powerful - philosophical, spiritual, political - all stimulating and evocative - reverbating through one's being with unseen but strongly felt force of energy. His stage presence is soft, quiet, elegant, humorous. No long soliloquies but engaging with the audience. The venue was quite beautiful visually and accoustically and the staff were very friendly.- people came around in the outisde bar area with small cups of red wine with cheese and crackers - an amazingly nice touch. What a treat. The Tralf, an intimate venue, allows you to really enjoy Bruce up close and personal. He seems shy, but I think the close quarters forced him to interact with the audience, who at times were pushy, blurting out song requests. I gotta think that was annoying, but he was pretty gracious, and said it was a compliment to hear so many beloved titles. If you love Bruce, it's probably because a song or two of his crept into your life at just the right moment; making sense of it all; connecting you to the divine. There were a few die-hard fans from Canada in the audience. At the time, I wanted to punch them in the head. In retrospect I think their enthusiasm was an asset to the evening.

First time I have seen him...went because my husband was familiar with his music and wanted to go-I loved the show and would definitely enjoy seeing him again. Bruce Cockburn is an intelligent, talented musician and songwriter!

I saw Bruce Cockburn for the first time in 1997, though I ve been a fan since 1979. While his show was awesome, and he told a few amusing stories, he struck me as being a very angry man. It was a different Bruce Cockburn I saw at the Variety Playhouse on September 8, 2011. As much as I love Bruce s music, I was disappointed in both "You ve Never Seen Everything" and "Life Short Call Now." It was with some trepidation that I purchased "Small Source of Comfort." In fact, the CD lay in my car for several weeks before I decided to play it. As I listened, one word kept coming back to me: revitalized. And the revivification was evident at the concert. Bruce seemed more open and more comfortable than he did fourteen years ago. He was a charming raconteur, made droll remarks ( They have black things for your water bottle now. The world is getting cooler! ) \u2014 and he sounded better than he had in years. That one man with a guitar, some chimes and what looked like three brass bowls could hold an audience captive is a testament to his talent. He sang and played songs old and new, including (my personal favorite) Pacing the Cage and Wondering Where the Lions Are, during which he encouraged audience participation in singing the chorus. And yet, there was something else. When he told the story behind Each One Lost \u2014 an incredibly emotional song from "Small Source of Comfort" \u2014 and then sang it, he moved me to tears. Therein lay the difference: while there is some anger in the song, there is also a compassion and (not to be redundant) comfort in his words and his voice. It was wrenching. It was also uplifting. Has he mellowed? Not completely. Perhaps he s seeing life through different eyes. One cannot go through an experience as he did and come out of it unchanged. This I say with certainty: if you have a chance, go see Bruce Cockburn. I heard one audience member say that Bruce is an acquired taste, and in a sense that s true. But the man s talent is undeniable, and I left the concert more of a fan than I was when I arrived. I only wish I could give him more than five stars.

Great treat to see Bruce Cockburn solo. A very special evening with Bruce delivering many of his best known songs and digging way back in his catalog for a few.

Caught Bruce on the second night of a two night stay at the Ark. This was the third time I've seen him in the past ten years or so. I'd say this was the best of the three, perhaps because of the strength of his bandmates. Bruce sprinkled in some different tunes on this night given his extended stay. Some of my favorites didn't get played (like Pacing the Cage) as a result, but that was okay. His choice to have a fiddle player and a percussionist as a band suited him very well. Tonight was not a night for the eletric version of Bruce.

Bruce composes with his heart and gentle spirit. Bruce captivates with Travis picking, harmony and lyrical melody. Complimentary mix of familiar and newly released songs. The El Rey has been restored, an intimate venue with an upscale feel, comfy seating and stunning decor. Always generous, Bruce and band freely signed autographs and chummed it up with the audience after the performance. Yet another highly memorable experience provided by a multiple Juno Award-winner.

Bruce Cockburn was incredible! It was 2 hours of continual music - some new but plenty of his standards! And I'm embarassed to say I didn't realize what an amazing musician he is - his instrumentals were phemonenal! LOVED the concert. I will be watching to see if he returns! And I'll be buying his new CD.

I have been attending Bruce Cockburn shows for decades. He always delivers above and beyond the crowds' expectations, and the show in Napa at the Uptown Theatre, June 2, 2011 was no exception. It was a simple trio consisting of Jenny Scheinman on violin and Gary Craig on percussion and Bruce on various guitars et al. What a perfect match!!!! I hope they continue to collaborate for many more albumns.

Bruce Cockburn's passion and precision musicianship has held up over the 30+ years I've been attending his shows. He no longer comes back for 2 or 3 encores as in years past, but still plays a great deal of music in a 2-hour set and did come out to the lobby for signing CD's, tickets, whatever, which was a special and unexpected treat. Jenny Scheinman is a good addition to his set as well, tho' I personally was not wild about her style individually (she opened the show w/a half hour set wherein she largely "strummed" her violin and sang - not my cup o' tea). When she picked up a bow, however, she did shine.

A real snoozer. Technically proficient but not much of a showman.

The Uptown venue was great. Great lighting and sound. Bruce was in a trio tonight. Him with Jenny on violin/mandolin. Drummer kept a great beat. He played songs from many of his assorted cd's. Bruce and Jenny jammed back and forth all night between guitar and violin. it reminded me of Bruce's days with Hugh Marsh. The audience had a great time watching this trio weave magic on stage.

As a Canadian (now living in California) I have followed Bruce's music back from the "Musical Friends" days up through the present. It was a great personal thrill to see him perform in person in this intimate setting just 20 miles from home. "Pacing the cage", "Last Night of the World", and "Democracy" were three of the many highlights. I had to admit savoring "Wondering where the lions are" from several albums back.

I've been a fan of Bruce Cockburn for over 25 years, but have only seen him live once before this show. I wasn't disappointed. Like his fellow Canuk Neil Young, Bruce's guitar chops and vocals were spot on, and we were treated to a nice setlist, including "Wondering Where the Lions Are" and one of my all time favs, "Pacing the Cage". While this was billed as "Bruce Cockburn with Band", it was only BC, his long time percussionist Gary Craig and violinist/mandolinist Jenny Scheinman. While I would've liked to hear some electric guitar, it was nevertheless a terrific show. My only question is -- what was up with those pants?! (BC had on something between MC Hammer parachuter pants and a wet suit, with some weird flap in the front...) Distractions aside, if you get the chance, go see one of Canada's underrated and unsung singer/songwriters.

I loved this show!. The venue was so intimate, like being in someone's living room. Bruce's music and lyrics always speak to me. He is such a talented musician and more than that his committment to humanity is evident in all his music. Bruce's heart is in his performance. I have been a fan for most of his career and never tire of hearing him. Come back soon, Bruce!!!

... the best music I've experienced in too long a time. Bruce Cockburn, Gary Craig and Jenny Scheinman, joined by Annabelle Chvostek for a couple of songs. The music, the venue, the crowd ... perfect. I would go again in a heartbeat.

Jenni stole the show, Bruce's voice was awesome and the three of them together can be haunting at times. Wish he would have played "rocket launcher" :(

Bruce played to an appreciative crowd at the exquisite Ark in A2, great sound mix. He played songs from his new cd and drew appropriately from his deep catalogue starting out with "If it were the Last Night of the World," followed by "Call it Democracy," and "Tokyo," all strangely prescient songs which demonstrate the thoughtfulness and artistry of Bruce's poetic and political sensibilities. He also played several of my favorites "All the Diamonds in the World" and "Arrows of Light" accompanied by himself on dulcimer, fluid violinist Jenny Scheinman, and a terrific percussionist.

Intimate setting -- 400 seats -- with excellent view & sound. Enjoyed hearing Jenny Scheinman as a 30 minute opening act. Bruce (& Jenny & Gary) played a great mix of older (& not just favorites) & new songs for about two hours, with a 3 song encore.. The set was a bit more up beat and pop/rock oriented than I anticipated for this venue, to the satisfaction of my teenage sons (some of his youngest fans?). Drummer Gary Craig worked hard juggling various percussion instruments. Lot's of precise moves on symbols, etc. The trio was available after the show to meet fans & sign CDs. This is the sixth time I've seen him & one of his best concerts.
