Lloyd Cole played an amazing show ! A very intimate and understated performance very well suited to the Birchmere. Thoughtful song selection and superb instrumental support pointed up once again that Lloyd Cole is an international treasure.

Almost 27 years of material was brilliantly performed with two very talented ensemble string players! Acoustic guitar, banjo and mandolin were all incorporated in the 26 song 2+ hour set. The new material is as compelling as the initial Rattlesnakes release!

with a capacity of 500 it wasn't even half full - Great for me plenty of room to stretch out have great beer and listen to one of the all time great singer song writers run through his nearly 30 year history of melodic, sarcastic, and intellectually articulate songs. He and his two troubadours gave a very informal, warm - but lively and updated rendition to songs, which were recorded 20 plus years ago with a full band and percussion compliment. the softer backgrounds allowed Lloyd's voice to dominate and his lyrics to get the clear sharpness as if you were reading them off the album jacket. Truly a great show and a fun evening

Lloyd Cole's acoustic performance at the Magic Bag was one of the best shows I've seen. His velvety voice and extreme guitarsmanship left me wanting more. He played solo for the first quarter of the show and after a break, was joined by two other guitarists. They played a combination of guitar, mandolin and banjo, without any other instruments. He sang songs from just about every era of his career, even though this was not billed as a greatest hits show. Commotions songs included Perfect Skin, Are You Ready to be Heartbroken, Forest Fire, Rattlesnakes, Cut Me Down and Lost Weekend. Songs from his solo career included Margo's Waltz, Butterfly, Don't Look Back, No Blue Skies, Undressed and Woman in a Bar. The songs from his new album are a little more folksy, and completely wonderful. And that voice. I can't wait for him to come back.

Lloyd Cole's lyrics are poetic and heartbreaking and his voice is beautiful. His backup group was amazing as well: guitar, mandolin and banjo. Brilliant. What a thrill to hear such a tremendous talent in an intimate setting like the Magic Bag.

He doesn't sing about happy stuff but its great all the same and as a stripped down one man and a guitar show it works very well
