Since the late 80's, the Grass Roots were my favorite group. I'd travel all over Southern California to see them. Former lead singer - Rob Grill - was fantastic. He WAS the Grass Roots. Great voice. You'd know his voice when you hear it. Sadly, Mr. Grill died a couple years ago. Last time I saw him - maybe a couple years before he died - he didn't look healthy, but he still was a wonderful singer. So I decided to check out the group with the new lead singer. It's not that this new guy can't sing, it's just that he makes no attempt at all to sound like Rob Grill. It was awful. I'd probably hear people do a better job at karaoke. I was a die-hard fan, knowing the words to all their songs, so I'm being very critical. When the "concert" (they played about 30 mins as the opening act) was over, I literally sobbed. I mean cried and cried right there in the venue. The group is nothing special without Rob Grill. Now, if you weren't a groupie like myself and don't care who is singing the songs, you will probably have a fine time, since they have a ton of catchy songs. Plus the musicians were fine. It's just the lead singer doesn't sound even close to what you may be used to hearing on the radio. A major disappointment, to say the least.

We enjoyed the concert of the Grassroots, music was timeless and reproduced well. Seating in the Bear's den are great, you can see everything wherever you are, a small venue, not far from the stage. We got the cheap seats at one of the outside tables and we saw and heard the concert perfect. A memorable performance. Rob Grill was very funny.

The Grassroots show was one of the Best Shows of 60's,early 70's classic rock.Rob Grill sings the songs the way they were recorded. The Band's playing & vocals were all in sync with him.Rob was personable & funny with the audience.Everyone attending sure seemed to have a great time. They have had so many hit records that I would recommend anyone interested at all should obtain a Greatest Hits CD.Playing for 44 years, the Grass Roots music still sounds Great.Even though Rob said,"Welcome to the senior circuit of rock & roll",and most of us who were there were seniors,it brought back some good time rock & roll. The Grass Roots were no one hit wonders.

These guys can still perform. The performance let me re-live my days as a senior in high school. All their songs came back and the audience seemed to capture the moment. Rob can capture the audience and send them into the "Grassroots" era music that is very much alive.

Time for the guys to hang it up...the vocals were terrible, especially his lead. He could'nt keep the pitch on songs repeatedly. He did complain about his monitor not working, but after 44 years in the business as he brought up a few times during the show...it's no excuse. I would'nt purchase the live CD they had for sale after that performance. Sorry Guys!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip down memory lane last night and we seniors were rocking the house. Listening to the group and their songs was like being back in high school and it was a great night of nostalgia. There were some moments where maybe the vocals weren't quite what they once were or words were forgotten but there were others that, it was like yesterday. Their personalities were great on stage and very entertaining. I would definitely see them again, only wish it had been longer. A note on the Bear's Den. It was the first time at this venue and I thought it was great, very intimate and loved the table setups around the top area.
