Wisconsin Snow and Cold outside - but New Oreans Funky Mardi Gras Heat inside! Northern Lights Theater is a fantastic and intimate venue to hear these Masters of Mambo - a show I'm glad I experienced....Dr. John and the Nevilles were in top form!

I have been at the Holywood earlier, but I did not know about the Holywood Bowl. This concert made it possible for me to experience the picnic and a good concert at the facility. The stage was unusually advanced with perfect lightning conditions.

Listening to Dr John was like a trip to Bourbon Street, a favorite place of mine. If I couldn't actually be in a smoky blues club, the old but still stately Keswick Theater was a fine venue for the show. Aaron Neville has a voice that could only have come from God. His brothers and the rest of the band were incredible, and their energy would put many younger bands to shame. A great night.

The show was marvelous. The Neville brothers sounded great and really rocked. However, Dr. John stole the show. He never ceases to amaze me. He just get better with age. There's only one Dr. John, and anyone who likes music should see him at least once.

This concert was one of the best!! In my opinion, Dr. John stole the show. He is amazing and his rhythm guitar player is fantastic. He played some of his hold standards, the blues and Cajun tunes. He initially overshadowed the Neville Brothers. They seemed to start out slow but when the sax player got going, the show picked up. Aaron Neville still has that fantastic unique voice; he brought back many memories. Everyone was dancing and I thing the entertainers were really getting into the music as much as we were. It was quite a night! I would definitely recommend this concert, especially if you like the blues and Cajun music.

Dr John was great. His band was a little weak but the doctor was in. Neville brothers are very tight. Eight piece band are all very good. Everybody seemed to have a good time jamming to the best of New Orleans in spite of concert starting an hour late. Also seemed like both the Dr. and Neville Brothers could have played longer.

Another beautiful Southern summer evening. The audience for this niche concert was predictably small -- mostly homesick New Orleans ex-pats mixed with some funk and R&B fans but very enthusiastic. We know great music and who can make it, and how to have a good time. No hurricane will ever destroy that. The legendary Dr. John was up first. I ve been watching the erstwhile Mac Rebbenack of NOLA s Third Ward perform since the 60s, and I m still in awe of him. You can always count on the good doctor to deliver a tight set full of his trademark funkology, from old hits like What A Night and Right Place Wrong Time, up to new songs like Save Our Wetlands from his Grammy-winning 2008 album. He did not disappoint. Mac s formidable reputation as a composer/arranger, pianist, guitarist, quirky vocalist and in-demand session man is well deserved. I have only one quibble: Dr. John doesn t acknowledge his band members nor develop a rapport with the audience. A very private person, he prefers to let his music tell you everything that he wants you to know about him; fellow musicians and longtime fans understand that. Personally, I think that Mac would enjoy greater success and more popularity with younger people if he shared some anecdotes about his music and career on stage -- but that aint gonna happen. So, just go and listen to a musician's musician do his thing. In contrast, the Neville Brothers and their sidemen have always worked hard to connect quickly with their audiences and still do. Obviously, Art, Charles, Aaron and Cyril use the feedback they get to gauge their performance. I think they also get a lot of personal satisfaction from making everyone feel like they re just hanging out with them on a good night at Tipatina s or over at the Jazz Festival. The NB 2009 tour set covers a wide variety of musical styles: funky get-down R&B, slow love ballads, sophisticated instrumental jazz, traditional NOLA favorites, even a little gospel. (Love that Hammond, Art!) One minute you re grooving to Aaron s soulful Tell It Like It Is with your sweetie; then you're applauding Charles' sax-y jazz and blues solos. Before you know it, you re on your feet swinging your throws (beads), towel or umbrella above your head while dancing to the band s Amazing Grace/Iko Iko/On The Bayou mix. Trust me: If you just sit quietly through a Neville Brothers concert, check for a pulse. In summary, go to this show appreciate New Orleans' finest music ambassadors and support the Gulf Coast's post-Katrina rebuilding efforts. The music and the recovery are far from over, y'all.

I had not been to this venue in Atlanta before, and it had a great atmosphere. The music was amazing. Dr. John and the Lower 911 opened and played about an hour set. Then, the Neville Brothers came out and played about an hour and a half. A lot of different instrements included, nothing out of the ordinary if you've seen these acts before. All around, great show. And I will definitely go to more shows at this venue.

Dr. John's voice is still incredible. You can't hear one bit of aging in it at all, although he looked as though he's had the life he's had. I love Dr. John and was thrilled ot hear him work the crowd. I can't say the same for The Neville Bros! I am originally from New Orleans and have seen The Neville Bros many many times and this was the most disappointing show yet. Maybe the fact that only about 1/3 of the seats sold for show influenced them, but I think they gave a lack luster performance.

I purchased tickets before they went on sale to public. I saw Trombone Shorty last year at the Newport Beach Jazz and he was sooo exciting. When I saw he was performing with yet another man I've been wanting to see in concert, AARON NEVILLE'S, this was a concert I couldn't miss. Orleans Avenue was a surprising pleasure. Never heard of them, but really enjoyed their style. Had a wonderful evening.

I enjoyed the entire concert. I was not familiar with Trombone Shorty's music, but was told by a friend (who lives in New Orleans) that whenever he is in my town I should go and see him. I am so glad I did. Now, I know for sure I will be attending the Catalina Jazz Festival since they have added him to the lineup. Now, I had heard some of Arin (?) Neville's music, but had forgotten about how good he and his brothers were. They were great and with Trombone Shorty's added touch just made the show that much better and they rocked the bowl. To top it off, the venue has always been one of my favorites.

I have been going to Neville Brothers concerts for decades and they were as masterful as always. They are the true ambassadors of New Orleans music and their one race message is what the world needs. As an added bonus, they had Trombone Shorty open for them. Everyone I spoke to after the show was determined to buy his music because he totally rocked the bowl with fantastic trombone and trumpet solos!

I bought these tickets because I absolutely adore Aaron Nevile, his voice like whiskey and velvet, his healing songs and his breathtaking phrasing. I was delighted by Roddy Romano and his group, who did the first set. They got us off to a rousing start and were great, talented entertainers with lots of easy humor and musical energy. I was thrilled by Trombone Shorty: what a gifted entertainer, what a great showman, what wonderfully built and balanced sets. He was surrounded by great, sexy musicians, and they were all brilliantly entertaining, but never dominated his performance. . But my expectations of Aaron Neville and the Neville Brothers were disappointed. Too many cooks, no clear frontman, too much noise on stage. I could never truly hear Aaron's voice, even when he was doing the ballads he is so well known for. The sound balance was maddening. And the Neville Brothers, as talented as they are individually, are very casual about building their sets. I finally left early, as did quite a few of the audience. It was a big letdown after the fireworks of Trombone Shorty's group. Is Aaron Neville losing his voice? Does he have heart problems, Is he worn out from competing vocally with all of those instruments onstage? My guest and I were speculating through the performance, because Aaron did not look happy and he did not sound great.

The Neville Brothers played what was billed as their farewell L A show(although that might not be entirely true) to a less than packed house, but that didn't stop them from bringing New Orleans to Hollywood. As second lines broke out throughout the bowl, the brothers thrilled the crowd with favorites like Pocky Way and Fiyo on the Bayou. It was Trombone Shorty, though, who really lit the fire earlier with a high energy set that showcased his triple threat of trombone, trumpet and vocals.Shorty has become the biggest star in New Orleans and it won't be long before he headlines the Bowl.

The Neville Brothers seemed to be kind of phoning it in this night, however Trombone Shorty was awesome. He stole the show when he and his band played before the Nevilles and when he joined them on stage, he sparked new life into their set.

Being a long time Dr. John fan I went to this concert to see him as the opening act and not knowing much about the Neville Brothers thought I would stick around to see what they were like, but probably leave early. It sure didn't take long for me to realize my priorities had been wrong - I should have come to see the Nevilles and looked at Dr. John as the bonus!

Approaching mid February in Milwaukee, just about everyone needs a break; this show did a great job of bringing a manageable taste of Mardi Gras and New Orleans culture to Milwaukee. The muscians are all commended for subjecting themselves to our northern winter climate in order to do this. I've seen the Nevilles many times, both here and in New Orleans, and they were in fine form, even absent Cyril. Dr. John was a wonderful addition to the program as he, along with the Nevilles, helped to carry on the legacy of Professor Longhair and other muscial forerunners from New Orleans.

I was surprised that Dr.John opened for the Neville Bros. Dr. John was in the best shape I've seen him in years! He even played guitar while standing! Aaron coming out to sing with him was great! The Neville Bros. did an amzing set but no encore. " When the Saints" mixed with "Who Dat say gonna beat them Saints" really moved the crowd. Great Show!!

Dr. John and the Neville Brothers are not only venerable members of a tradition that gave us Louis Armstrong and Prof. Longhair, but they are also musical giants in their own right. The concert reflected both the tradition they represent and their artistic mastery.

Doctor John opened slow, played full set & encore. long intermission. Neville's played about one hour, shut down at 11 PM on the dot, no encore. I think Dr. John needed to play shorter set & leave time for Nevilles to properly close performance with encore(s). Too much instrumental, not enough AAron.

We got snowed in! Also, no refund available. I reccommend to anyone traveling more than 10-15 miles from home to purchase ticket insurance. I should have! Have seen the Neville's before @ the Count Basie in red bank and they put on a great show. I'd see them again. As for the Dr., he's the Dr. ; been listening to him since the 60's. Seen him twice; hope to see him many more times ,before one of us leaves . One of the true musical geniuses of all time.

Having listened to the Neville Brothers for so long, it was amazing to see them in person. They sang Christmas and non-Christmas songs - it was a great mixture of sounds. Oh, let me not forget to mention that they were on stage for over two hours without a break! This was my first time at Showcase Live and I was so impressed with the intimacy of the venue as well as the professionalism of everyone who works there, that I can't wait to see another show. This is the 2nd time my wife and I have seen Aaron Neville and his brother Charles who plays the Sax. Aaron's instrument is his unique voice, with falsetto and reverbertion. His live performance of his many hits is the same quality as his recordings and the venue is like he was in our living room. I would recommend his show to anyone who likes his music. If you didn't know what he does for a living he would appear to be a linebacker for the New Orleans Saints. Then the velvet smooth voice takes over.
