Tame Impala

Tame Impala

Award-winning Australian psychedelic rock innovators Tame Impala made waves with 2012's Lonerism, winning the Australian Recording Industry Association’s 2013 Album of the Year and earning a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. Initially a studio project by Kevin Parker, Tame Impala grew to a five-piece band for live shows. In concert, they combine psychedelic images and pulsing colors with garage rock sounds to create a hybrid of '60s-style sounds coupled with mysterious, contemporary rock.Tame Impala first burst onto the scene in 2008 when Kevin Parker’s "Tame Impala" EP rose to No.

Hands down the greatest concert or even perfromance I've ever seen. To be fair they are by far my favorite modern band but besides that, they know how to put on an incredible show. They played virtually every hit and altered them to both keep them all high energy and to synergize them with both the visuals (which were unbelievably epicly psychadelic)and the overall aesthetic of currents. Once they got on stage there was not a single dull moment. If they come to your town, DO NOT MISS IT.

What a show... The vocals, the riffs, the drums, the atmosphere. This is a band whose live performance will not disappoint if you are looking for a mellow, chill show. Keep in mind, this is not an insane upbeat concert.

Tame Impala put on an amazing show surprise surprise. However, I was looking forward to seeing Stardeath as well and they didn't play. Achille Lauro was a really good local opener though.

I first caught Tame Impala last summer as openers for MGMT. Liked them, downloaded their albums and EPs, and was glad they came back this way so soon. Plus, the low ticket price was attractive. The fact that Stardeath & the White Dwarfs was slated as the opener was a nice bonus. I was excited to see them. And then disappointed when they didn't open the show and there wasn't even any mention of what happened. (?!) The (replacement?) opener, "Achille Lauro" was pretty cool, but not on Stardeath's level. With Stardeath it would have been a double-headliner show. Tame Imapala put on a great show and sounded even better than when I saw them 6 months ago. If Stardeath had played (as advertised), this show probably would have gotten a 5-star rating from me.

kuroma opened up doing a decent job. i enjoyed the ones i knew. Stardeath was next and my god were they good. they clearly learned a thing or two from touring with the flaming lips as they rocked the house. tame impala's performance was just what i expected, but seemed much more mellow and failed to catch my attention to much after the energy stardeath had brought.

This was definitely my favorite show I've seen yet. The band was tight. The oscilloscope projection on the stage was really cool. And the Paradise always sounds good. They are never too loud.

The band went into way too many spacey jams with no direction. When they played the meat of the songs it was great, but that was too far and few between. Plus the crowd was edgy and difficult. Not the best show I've seen...by a long shot!

Was into this band heavily over the summer and jumped at the chance to see them live. Totally worth twenty dollars, worth 40 dollars even. Most exciting shows are so goddamn expensive these days, to see something like this for that little is exactly as it should be :) The crowd was really pretty good, a little quiet, even, but well-behaved and packed into the Bowery. Little space to get drinks. The band found a groove and locked into it for the whole show, breaking up songs with trippy segues and a neat visualization program that matched the lead guitar on a real 1:1 basis. Made me laugh when the guitarist just started fiddling around with the knob, oscillating blue circles across the big screen, messing with everybody's head. Warm-up acts Kumora and Stardeath And White Dwarf weren't bad themselves, some very catchy music coming out now. Lots of Pink Floyd-y stuff. All in all, an excellent show.

Playing live rule #1: Don't play your songs slower than you recorded them on your album unless the effect makes them sound cooler. Every song has a threshold for its perfect tempo, and they ignored the tempos they had already gotten pretty perfect. They played almost all their songs 5 BPM slower than they recorded them. For about 2 songs, the effect was interesting because it made the groove sound slightly heavier, but for the most part it made the songs fall short of their dance appeal. It had to be intentional, as the entire set was consistently slower. Watching the crowd it was apparent that while people were grooving, they weren't quite moving the way I know they should to a live Tame Impala. The oscilloscope projection was sweet, and fun to watch. Their sound was good (other than slightly over-drowned out vocals). Overall it was fun to see them, but their energy was low, and they fell short of the show I know they could have performed. I'm sure with more experience they will come to understand certain techniques for having a dynamic performance, from stage-presence hype to tempo and sound.

Tame Impala's performance in Berkeley amazing. Playing new music and old favorites was a nice variation from there new album performance in LA FYF fest the weekend before. They drew the crowd in, everyone dancing, drawn in to the band and the awesome sound. Live performances are great because you get to see them as musicians jamming together. Kevin always impresses me since I started going to shows in 2012. Can't wait for more!

We got there early and grabbed some space under a tree and waited for the concert to start. Dungen came on about 7:45 pm, played about 1/2 hr, and were awesome! Then came Tame Impala and the night really started! They played the songs you expected, the light show was fantastic, and you were right there! It was one of the places where you can get up close and personal! They really rocked and we wished it would never end! Definetely see a concert at the bandshell in Prospect Park if you can. They even had access to the real park bathrooms, but the lines were long for them, so we used the portosans. One of the great concerts!!

It was exciting, psychedelic, and mesmerizing. The bass was clear and the vocals were on point. Their show was a little over an hour-15 but it felt like 10 minutes, I was truly in the moment. The crowd was buzzing with passion. Once they left the stage before the encore, the crowd was roaring and everyone put up their lighters and LED flashlights begging for one more song. Kevin Parker was even impressed. It was an experience that everyone should be able to enjoy.

The entire performance was incredible. I got to meet amazing people, stand 2nd row from stage (albeit in front of three 6ft guys, im 5'1, not fun). Tame Impala never ended up coming out to meet the crowd after the show like they usually do . I waited from around 10:30, when the concert ended til around 1:30am. The crew was walking around up to load up the tour bus but they never said a word that the band had left right after the concert. Besides all that I had an incredible time. Tame Impala will never cease to amaze me.

Kevin Parker & Co. put on a great show at Radio City. Sound was great. Visuals were spectacular, from the rapidly rotating spotlight that started the show to the full blown projections on the screen behind the band. I dug the dark lighting of the actual band members at first, it underscored that we were there for the music, but really, at some point you just want there to be a spotlight on the band! At one point Mr. Parker joked about a jacket that one of his bandmates was wearing, and he said "Get some light up here so everyone can see the jacket..." and THEY COULDN'T! There just weren't any lights that focused onto the stage. Go figure. Plus, it was an hour into the show before there was any live video of the band - -and even then it was a distorted psychedelia kind of footage. As I said, very very cool but still... That said, a very very enjoyable evening and I recommend you check these guys out next time;)

I had no idea of what to expect from this concert. My son picked the show and told me little about the band. I purposely did not do any research so I walked in cold. Opening band was a bust\u2014poor sound, lousy material and a poor choice of instrumentation. But on the first note from Tame Impala I knew this part of the evening was going to be great. And it was. On top of the imaginative and wild light show the sound coming from the stage was a trip out of the past with a twist of the future. I have never really heard anything quite like this band. Fun to the last note.

Easily the most fun I've had at a show this year. Their light show is somehow triggered by the sound and it rivals Pink Floyd's lighting effects. The sound was spot on and the band was really tight. Kevin's singing has gotten better with time too. If you close your eyes you might think it's John Lennon up there. Obviously a very psychedelic show, and the crowd just loved it. If you ever saw Oracular Spectacular era MGMT, expect that kind of vibe. 10/10 would see again!

Well exceeded my expectations for this show. Was a little worried about the style of music and how good it would be live. No need to worry. Their show was flawless and great! The musicianship was spot on. They played great to the crowd and had fun. Not sure how well they would sound or look in a festival setting, but you need to see them indoors! Their lighting was excellent and trippy. Best show ever! And not to forget about the opening band... Mini Mansions was by far the best opening band I've ever seen. If you like Tame Impala, you like Mini Mansions. All around best show I've ever been to.

Tame Impala is good...they're great! The reason I gave four stars though is because the venue or the stage crew, whoever didn't do the best they could when it came to sound check. Plus, I'm spoiled because I saw such an incredible performance by Tame Impala at the Bill Graham Civic Center in Halloween 2013! Therefore, my expectations were just as high, not that Tame Impala didn't deliver an amazing performance, but like I said, if the technical issues were given more attention it would have been like Halloween 2013! Some songs you can hear Kevin Parker more clearly than others where the music would completely drown out his words. Nonetheless, if you have not seen Tame Impala or you have...go, always go, these guys play with their hearts and souls!

I purchased GA Floor standing tickets as soon as they went on sale. The day of the concert, which began at "8:00pm", I left my house at 1pm just to be front row. I got there extra early and was one of the first 6 in line. The wait was long but worth it! I got to go into the bar next door hence I'm over 21 and was also one of the first to be let into the venue. I got the chance to stand right in front near the railing. The view was perfect but the sound was AMAZING!! I didn't get pushed around much since I was right at the front and I got to enjoy the music so much better! Great performance by Tame Impala by the way!! I suggest that if you purchase these type of tickets, you're short like I am, AND/OR you just want to be front row go extra early like I did and it's a done deal. Take food to eat while you're in line and be ready for a long wait. If you get lucky you might see the band up close! ;)

I have never heard of Tame Impala until my fiance made me to listen to them. Usually we have very different tastes in music, but for this band we both agree, they are great! Our 9th anniversary was coming up and I noticed they were playing St Andrews Hall, our favorite venue in Detroit and bought tickets for the show. I am so glad I did! The drive from GR to Detroit gave me a chance to listen to them for the first time. They have this 70's space/stoner rock type of sound. I would compare it to the Beatles mixed with Pink Floyd, with a splash of Rush.....IMO. Although they definitely have their own vibe and jam very well together. They are so eclectic I hear them on Jamon and Alt Nation on Sirius. So they are a Jam-Indie band?!?!?! The cds we listened to sounded very raw but well produced. Which had me thinking playing live they might not be able to pull off the almost St Peppers type of album. We checked into the Hilton Garden Inn and were greeted by a very pleasant and friendly staff. The hotel, which was close to the venue had a "Five Guys Burgers" in between. Yes!!! And they served beer! Double yes!!!! Perfect place to hit up a quick burger and beer before the show. Getting to the venue was an easy and a very safe walk from the hotel. Barely a line, and entered quick and smooth. We arrived just in time to see the Growl play their last 2 songs. The venue is really hot, small and intimate, just the way we like to see a show. Tame Impala came on and just blew me away from the beginning. They didnt blow me away with a loud rock sound and they don't play hard or make your ears bleed. They play this nice space rock sound that sometimes ends unexpectedly or jams on and you get lost in their little world of music. For the first part of the show we got up pretty close, about 10 rows back on the right side. After our first beer and losing our minds in the first 5 songs we decided to head to the back, for a quick bathroom break and beer refill. As we stood in the back, the "Feels like we only go backwards" song came on and sounded so great. Also their light show had picked up a bit from the single green laser in the beginning to some psychedelic blob patterns. After that song, we made a quick exit outside to get a breather and cool off. Boy was it hot!!!! As we made it back inside we decided to head to the upper balcony on the right side. We got pretty close and had a great view next to the VIP area. The balcony was 10 times hotter and I noticed the lead singer had no shoes. Any place we stood in the venue, the sound was amazing. I love St Andrews! From seeing bands like Blind Melon all the way to Static X, I have never had bad sound there. I could have listened to Tame Impala play all night. Overall it was the best show we have seen in a while and had a great time! On the way out I was hoping to get a poster that was specifically designed for the show and they had sold out. Total bummer. I didn't realize they only had 25. So I picked up a winter tour poster which was just as nice and headed back to the hotel. The fiance and I were still up for a little fun so we hit up the Greektown Casino for an hour of drinking and gambling. Great casino and very friendly bartenders. Overall we had a great time and can't wait to get back to one of our favorite cities.....Detroit!!!

I had really high expectations of Tame Impala but what I actually saw blew my expectations away. They absolutely killed it!

This venue is about 12/10 Tame Impala as a whole is about a 77/10. They intentionally portrayed a fantasy dream state to the audience. It was genius. And interactive, looking up at them the whole thing felt like floating on a pink cloud.

Tame Impala brought their clean sound and catchy tunes to The Greek Theater, Berkeley, on Saturday September 3rd. They keep the crown on their toes with confetti cannons, background lasers, and background screen. I was entertained the entire time. Thanks guys for a fabulous show!!

Excellent venue. Kevin was such an excellent showman, even though he said he was hungover and full of painkillers. This was my 9th time seeing Tame Impala live. I drove from Orange County to Berkeley just to see them. In my opinion, this was the best show I have seen from them so far! The visuals alone were stunning. Felt like I was on acid or shrooms the whole time. So trippy. I am so happy to have witnessed the rise of TI from the beginning. They have more money for their performances and it shows! Such a great experience. Lastly, I love that Kevin & co have started playing Daffodils!

Seeing Tame Impala live for the first time was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Between the set list and the light show and the overall performance of the band members the whole night was truly incredible. When they first released the confetti the crowd went wild. Tame impala's stage presence is electrifying and I couldn't believe it was possible but they are even better live than they are prerecorded. Singing along with a crowd full of people who truly appreciate the art that they create was so emotional. They played some of my favorite songs and as I watched the confetti fall like snow into the crowd I was almost brought to tears with how beautiful the whole night was.

I've been to a lot of concerts but Tame Impala was hands down the best concert I have ever been to. I wasn't in GA but man it was still lit up in the stands. I wish I can keep reliving that night. If you have a chance to go, PLEASE GO!!!

Tame Impala is definitely a band that you go to see and just let the music take you over. It is an experience like no other. The psychedelic sounds really do make you feel something that is hard to describe. The one thing I could say is that I believe that Tame should be experienced either at night or inside because I feel they have more to offer in those conditions and if sunlight was involved it might lose the expected feeling. Otherwise I would definitely go to another Tame show because well it was pretty awesome. Also Benjamin Booker is amazing, a great choice to open for Tame.

Over everything, the Tame Impala show reminded me of what is really important when I buy tickets to a show - the music. There is no light show for Tame Impala. There is just this amazing, clear, resonant visual movie that plays seamlessly through the set (shout out to their visual director). You can't focus on the band and how hot the members are or how they play their instruments- you can only focus on the music and those amazing visuals. Tame Impala got it right. They realize they're talented musicians, and they want you to appreciate their sound - not their image. I think it really speaks to what shows have become - a race to take tons of pictures of a band for social media attention - and Tame Impala gives you no choice but to tune in and enjoy the ride.

I've seen Tame Impala a few times live, 3 times for the Currents tour. They are seriously at the top of their game now!!! Their performances are magical, all of them in perfect unison, especially during their freak out jams in Apocalpypse Dreams and Elephant!! The new songs are perfectly adapted live, favorites including the great opener Let it Happen and 'Cause I'm a Man!!! Kevin's voice is perfection, hitting all of those pretty falsetto notes throughout their records. I saw them back on the Lonerism tour, and they were excellent but still learning how to become comfortable with performing at large venues and performance skill. Now, they are changing, completely refined and perfecting their musical abilities. Seeing them in the gorgeous Radio City Music Hall was a real treat, with the band and audience in awe of seeing them in such a huge and historic atmosphere!! Tame Impala has always been great on their records. Now Kevin and the band have perfected the live shows with the trippiest visuals I've seen!! Check them out if you can!!! You seriously won't regret it.

This is my third time seeing Tame Impala live and let me just say, they never disappoint. Seeing them live truly is a great and enjoyable experience. Believe it or not, I've felt my sense of rythym improve while making my own music since their concert.

This band is awesome with all the right influences and vibe. I was stoked to see them but really disappointed on the amount of voice, guitar and drum effects they used to duplicate the recordings. Every song sounded exactly like the record and felt like I was listening to a play list instead of a live show. I wouldn't go so far to say that they were lip syncing...BUT it wouldn't surprise me if they were singing over a pre recorded track like many of the pop tart artists do.. I'll continue listening to TI but don't think I'll bother seeing them again.

Tame impala never fails to impress. Great musicians, great band. I've seen them live 3 times and each time I'm always happy. They always add something a little different in their songs but it is always better than the original. Now for the venue, it's radio city music hall. It's if you like seated concerts. I'm not a fan of sitting down during a concert so it wasn't my first pick. I wish I went to see tame impala perform at terminal 5. No one ever sits at a concert so we were forced to stand up anyways. I hope tame impala returns at a non seating venue. I'll be seeing them again!

I had seen Tame Impala on their previous tour at the Union Transfer, so my expectations were fairly high for the Tower Theater show. Not only did they have a bigger stage on which to perform, every aspect of the show grew commensurate with the venue. Forget the fact that the light show kept your eyes transfixed, and that there was a palpable excitement oozing from the crowd; the bottom line is the music ROCKED. 5 of the 18 songs were off the new album, and despite that album's departure from their typical sound, they were performed with serious bombast. The fuzzy guitar and echo laden vocals were on full display, and the tight rhythm section kept everything chugging forward like an interstellar locomotive. While the band seem destined to reach the arena level of Radiohead or Arcade Fire, hopefully that is delayed long enough for them to continue to demolish theater size venues for a while.

I've been a fan of Tame Impala for a few years now and love their live shows. They did an amazing job at this show too of course! The only issue was the sound; it just wasn't as good as it could have been. Not sure if this was TI's sound system or -- I think more likely -- Echostage. Either way, though, it's a big open venue (once you get inside) and I would definitely go there again if it's another band I really want to see, as was the case with TI.

From the spiralgraph light show intro to the encore outro, Tame Impala completely tore the place down. One of the best indoor shows I have seen. Next time they're in DC do yourself a favor and get tickets ASAP.

Seeing Tame Impala live for the first time was absolutely incredible! They played amazing, I would't have changed a thing. It all felt like a dream come true, I couldn't stop smiling during the entire concert. Definitely with out a doubt the best moment of my life. I'd give it a thousand stars if I could. Next time when they go on tour again and come back I can promise you I will definitely be there front row.

This was my first concert and I was so excited to see my favorite band Tame Impala. I have been in love with your guys music since I heard mind mischief, and have every single song on my iPod and constantly stuck in my head. Your music really registers within me in my core and I love that. I am not someone that's good with words, so it's always refreshing when I find an artist that's able to put in words what I cannot. Not to be corny, but your music really inspires and makes me think about the message being conveyed. If in fact I'm thinking to hard about your songs and there's no deep meaning, well thank you for making me think! Haha. Great concert, great set list, great experience! Thank you Stephanie

Tame Impala's live performance at DC's Echostage was an unforgettable one. The Aussie psychodelia group opened with "Let it Happen", the first track on their upcoming 3rd studio album "Currents". From there it was smooth sailing. Kevin Parker and his fellow band mates delivered a strong performance and the front man expressed the band's gratitude for the constant support of the fans and for the large turnout at their last headliner concert of their current tour. The night was packed with unforgettable music complimented by a light show that even Pink Floyd would be impressed by. Their encore songs were "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" and "Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control"
