Delightfully raunchy. I have only heard him on NPR so didn't realize how off color his humor could be. My 17-year-old son told his friends that he was going to see David Sadaris and he said they immediately had blank expressions while a 50-year-old woman who overheard him said, "oh, I love David Sadaris." He is now introducing his friends to David. He loved the show as much as I did.

It was an awesome evening. The setting was inviting and the location spectacular. Had a nice dinne an drinks before the reading at a near by restaurant with great service despite they were not expecting the crowd. David was great as always with his stories. My only disappointment was that the night ended. This is the third time I go to his readings and the evening is as spectacular as it is elegant.

Clever. Poignant. Insightful. Real. Such beautiful observations about the absurdities of life and the nuances of relationships.

Like most comedians, the live performance usually is more "potty mouth" than the media version. But it was excellent. The stories he tells are for thinking people who are not offended by an off colored joke. Come on people, lighten up. This stuff is really funny.

I spent more for one ticket than I would spend for a whole book, but he spent less than two hours on stage and spent part of that time reading from another author's book. I wouldn't recommend his show to anyone else.

I like biting satire and a caustic wit to push the envelope. However, the book that David Sedaris was promoting last night, The Onion's Our Dumb World, has some blatantly offensive and insensitive dark humor about famine, genocide, and sexual assault. I encourage him to find something a little less horrific to laugh about and endorse.

David Sedaris has a STRONG following. People waiting to buy books after his performance stretched from one end of the auditorium's foyer to the door at the other end. Rarely did he cross from the healthily irreverent to the appropriate (this from one who loathes the righteous unction of the politically correct). Big recommendation!

David Sedaris was awesome as always. He is so worth seeing. He does not read any of published works, so you get fresh, witty, funny, naughty stories some based in his life, some just writings of his. Well work seeing! He also commits to signing every single book someone has no matter how long it takes. Sometimes staying at venues long into the night.

I liked the readings from his own work, but I didn't like the readings from the "book for sale" after the event. I mean I love the "book for sale," he just reminded me of an inarticulate pitchman at the end. I know that sounds harsh but overall he really was interesting.

This event was wonderful! David Sedaris was fantastic in person, very witty and kept the audience on their toes. He stayed to sign everyone's books afterwards, and was charming and personable. The only downside to the event was that the theater's website and phone directions were wrong, and I spent the first 20 minutes driving around trying to find it.

Had the pleasure of "spending an evening" with David Sedaris at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA last night. I've been a fan for years and purchased tickets the moment I learned about the show: 10/28/08. It was worth the wait. He signed books, etc. prior to and after the event and was as funny as I imagined. Great time.

I am a HUGE fan of David Sedaris. I have seen him multiple times, and enjoy his books and CDs over and over. The show was really enjoyable in his usual style until his book recommendation. In discussing the book, from the 'Onion' staff, he read excerpts that discribed staving Ethiopians and other horribe events. He laughed hysterically throughout this. Many in the audience (including my group) appeared uncomfortable. This was totally out of his usual mode. Very frat boyish. Then, over ond over he giggled 'nasty book, nasty bool'. Creepy

David Sedaris is one of the writing/comedy geniuses of our time. No one can match his wit and insight into his own and the human condition. This was the second of I think he said 38 or 40 stops on this tour. The material is not polished yet, as he said he will refine the act as he goes along, the timing and material so far are not quite up to his usual standards. But don't get me wrong, he is as endearing and brilliant as ever....I think he might want to offset some of the acid, hostile material with more of his personal relationship stuff--brother, sister, partner references for balance and relief from the angry affect.

This was the thirrd time I have attended a David Sedaris engagement and was not disappointed. Because he is such a prolific writer and just a hilarious human being, each show is new and different. Be aware that he uses very crude language at times, so don't go it that offends you. If you love his books, you will have a wonderful time. Even is you haven't read his books, but just like to laugh, you will have fun. He has always made himself available after each show to sign books, and personalizes each one. I will see him again.

David Sedaris was hysterical as always and I greatly enjoyed the piece about his trials and tribulations about finding a dentist to diagnose a cracked tooth. Having suffered this affliction personally, I could totally relate to his difficulty in finding someone to believe the pain he was in. Likewise, his readings from his most recent book were great; I love to hear an author's voice in my head when I'm reading and with David Sedaris this is always possible. I will attend his performance whenever he is next in the area.

I was not prepared for the David Sedaris show evidently...the excessive "potty mouth" approach to humor brought me back to my years as an elementary school teacher dealing with third graders who howl at such topics. In short, I didn't find the time spent by David Sedaris reading on and on about bodily functions and continuing about curse words from other cultures interesting or enlightening. What I thought was going to be a "performance" was actually a book tour pretending to be a performance. I certainly don't mind performers/writers/artists selling their material, but then spending an hour and a half reading from it is not what I call a performance. Having another author read his praises about David Sedaris at the start of the show was also directed to selling books...not what I expect from an Art Power show. I expect more of the UCSD Art Power shows--cutting edge, professional artistic experiences.

David Sedaris was outstanding. His pro's and delivery could be listened to for hours. However, the seating at the State Theater is atrocious. David Sedaris is the Mark Twain of today. Great story teller with a unique style and wit. 2 things to say here: First, the event itself. David Sedaris is engaging, funny and a generally good speaker. The evening consisted of 90 minutes of him reading his works and taking questions and answers. I can't say that I'm a hard core Sedaris fan so, while I did feel entertained, I think ticket money would be better spent buying his books and reading them yourself. Mr. Sedaris did appear in the lobby before and after the show to sign books and to meet and greet. If you're a fan, by all means - go. Second: The Midland Theatre. I have longed to see this theatre for years but events there were few and far between. I was glad for the opportunity to finally get inside and have a look. If you're a movie palace fan, as I am, you'll want to see this building, but be aware that a full scale restoration has NOT taken place here. Seating on the orchestra floor and the upper balcony have been reconfigured and these are changes I can live with. Beyond that, the theatre shows the wear and tear of 80 years and really needs a good cleaning. The musty smell is almost overpowering. The Midland is an adequate venue but the true glory of this theatre goes unrealized until a full renovation is undertaken. Still, the faded glory of Thomas Lamb's building is evident. Once referred to as Lamb's "dress rehearsal" for the later to come San Francisco Fox Theatre, this building gives an opportunity to get a glimpse of the spectacle that long lost theatre must have held. Overall, an enjoyable evening in splendid, if faded, surroundings.

David Sedaris was in top form--hilarious, shocking, gasp-inducing and quietly serious. Sometimes all in the same sentence! Missed a few remarks and punchlines because of that. In all, a fantastic evening.

It is hard to describe David Sedaris to a person who has never heard of him. I invited a friend to come with me to Saturday's performance. The venue is Gorgeous and Elegant! Like a beautiful setting in a ring, befitting a sparkling Diamond. We arrived and were escorted to the entrance where there were handsome men dressed in suits to welcome us. We were early, but there was already a huge line of fans waiting as David Sedaris was signing books the fans brought or just bought. We talked to some of the people waiting to sit down inside, and they were DEVOTED FANS to say the least. Just ask them if they have gone to another David Sedaris event, and they blurted out how long they had been a fan and that they had all of his books! We went inside this beautiful venue and sat down. Eventually, with all sears taken, the lights went dark and the diminutive David Sedaris, dressed in his latest unique outfit came out with a resounding applause, and started to talk, with his slightly high pitched voice. He delivered his twist on how he sees the world and we all Loved it! After amazing and slightly twisted descriptions of situations, not to everyone's taste, There was a still adoring audience leaving with a smile on our faces. Then David went back to his seat signing books for all those willing to wait in line. I have been attending "the David Sedaris" experience for, I think, 15+ years, once or twice a year. I find him to be refreshingly Human, Humble and Original.

Reading David Sedaris's essays, I'm laughing at almost every single line. When that is coupled with his unique speaking voice, I was laughing so hard I only heard every other line! I'm sorry to those sitting around me. His newest material is some of his best. The Eastern European insults essay is absolutely hilarious. This is the third time I've seen him. We bring even more friends each time. Even though it's getting harder and harder to get out on a "school night", it's worth it every time. The Long Beach Performing Art Center is a great venue. The sound was a little echo-y (we were in the third row), but that's the only complaint. The line moved quickly for the bar and bathroom, and there was a little picnic area in the front where one could enjoy some libations. Bottom line: GO SEE DAVID SEDARIS! ANYWHERE!!

He was very funny but didn't need to dive into the potty over and over. My overall feeling when I left (and the group of 12 people who were with me) was that he got too crude too often and it was unnecessary. This is maybe the 10th time I've seen him stand there and read his stories, and he is as entertaining, surprising and insightful as ever. But the venue was a little rough. The sound in the balcony made it hard to hear or understand him, and with David's show, that's pretty much all there is. Then the audience, annoyed by the sound, became annoying as well as they tsked their way through the evening. I'd still go again if only for story Hugh thought would never sell.

I was so looking forward to this and bought a ticket for a friend who was new to his writing. But I left after the first reading. We were in the balcony and the sound was muddy. I got about one or two out of every three words. The laughter was scattered in the balcony. I talked with some front row folks over drinks after the show and they heard every word. My friend stayed and reported that she heard 40 to 50% of the text. His reading aloud with his deadpan delivery for the whole performance is a bit of a non event.

He's not for everyone but for those of us who love him - a memorable and delightful evening. Thank you!

Absolutely hilarious.... when I could hear him.... Nichols Hall did not do a good job in the amplification department!

Great show! He does readings from unpublished material, answers questions, and does a signing. Incredibly funny as always! My husband who has not read any of his work went with me and had a great time as well. I would highly recommend it.

I spent the entire time laughing. Sedaris has great "dry" humor. He was so personable during autographing, also. I would pay to see him again....well worth every dollar spent!

This was a great night out. His fan base really comes out to support him. The line for autographs was incredible after the show. His humor is unparalleled.

Sedaris is very enjoyable to listen to as he spins his tales. He engages you from the beginning, often diverting only to circle back around and tie the story all together.

This was my second time seeing David Sedaris live and it's worth every penny every time! He's my favorite author and to hear him read his own material is really the best way to hear it. I cannot wait for the next time!

I have heard David Sedaris on three other instances and enjoyed his humor very much, which is why we battled the fierce storm to get to the Opera House Saturday. We were very disappoint in his choice of material, most of which had to do with excrement, swearing, etc, and wasn t funny. A survey of world curses, most of which involve the most vile things you can conceive of doing to another human being, isn t really humorous after the first one or two. My husband left to get a drink because he was so bored. My friend and I hung in hoping for a glimpse of the old David Sedaris. I won t bother to go see him again.

Low key, personable, and hilariously funny, he embodies the feeling of his books. He has the audience from the moment he walks onto the stage. Absolute proof you don't need to go huge to have a great show. My only qualm was I wish I had arrived earlier...the crush to get autographed books was too long to wait. Everything else was perfect.

David s storytelling is nothing short of amazing! His books are great reads, but nothing tops him reading the stories. His voice and hearing it read as he meant will really keeps you laughing!

I have been a fan of David Sedaris for several years and this was the first live show I have seen. It was great! His books and stories are always awesome but to actually hear him read them live is phenomenal.

The Ohio Theatre is a great venue and it was wonderful to see the place three-quarters full for David Sedaris. I have seen Sedalia several times and he is always hilarious. This particular time he told one too many poop stories. On story went on so long and had so many graphic descriptions of diarrhea that several people walked out. I was actually so nauseated, I thought I might have to leave - it was that graphic. Sedaris is so talented in taking the ordinary and making us wonder why we had never seen that aspect of life, he does not need to debase himself. I will be back to see him again, but if he continuesto talk about poop, I may walk out too.

If I wasn't laughing out loud then I had a big smile on my face. Reading David Sedaris is great but hearing him live is an unforgettable experience. I hope he returns. I hope he never stops.

I've been reading David Sedaris' books for years but I didn't realize until I saw him live how totally hysterical and wonderful he is in person. I wear glasses and found myself take them off so often to wipe the tears away from laughing so hard that I finally gave up and just put them in my pocket until the show was over.

I have seen David Sedaris 4 times here in Columbus and this is by far his best reading yet. His essays were hilarious, and to whomever brought their child to this performance - shame on you! You should know better than that!!! This is not NPR!!!

Such an incredible night! We walked in, bought a book and found out David was signing books. The line was long because he talked to every person and signed something personal and funny in every book. He did an incredible 90 minute show, answered questions from the audience then went back to signing books until 1:30 a.m. If you love his writing you have to see him in person!!!

I haven't laughed that hard in years! David has a unique sensibility that I enjoy very much. Some audience members left in the first few minutes of the show. I'm assuming they were offended. He does use strong and graphic language and there was a lot about bodily functions (or dysfunctions). The best part was when David signed books after the show. He was gracious and personable.
