Lucius

LUCIUS IN CONCERT:Girl group powerhouse Lucius put a fresh spin on Motown and soul music with their 2013 debut album Wildewoman, combining '60s influences with a modern indie pop sound. Whether Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe are lending their jaw-dropping vocals to "Don't Just Sit There" or swaying back and forth in their matching mod frocks and intricate updos, the fierce duo packs a serious punch. With pitch-perfect vocals and harmonies, Lucius deliver pure pop bliss both on their recordings and on stage. Back on tour the stylish and effervescent collective will treat fans to their retro pop confections as they share the bill with The Head and the Heart and Sara Bareilles among a string of headlining dates of their own.

When the show started I was like, uh oh, this seems a little too practiced, a little too Vegas-y. But as the show proceeded, my apprehension melted away as the songs just got better and Better and BETTER. I was standing next to a stranger (Melanie) who made a very accurate comment. She said that she bought the CD after first listening to the band on WFUV - intrigued with their sound (same as me). But after repeated listenings she was like "meh" and wondered if the concert would be any good -- if it would reinvigorate her interest (just like me). We both came away from the show reeling - knowing that Lucius killed it. Their songs really came to life in concert - expertly crafted with arcing melodies, dazzling chord changes and soaring harmonies. Loved it. Stayed all the way to the end.

The concert was awesome! It started an hour later than advertised, which was annoying but still worth it. The opening band wasn't very good but Lucius more than made up for it. I wish they could've played the whole night!

One of the most invigorating and exquisite concerts I've attended. The audience was ecstatic and the girls are virtuosos. Their encore in the middle of the audience floor inspired such delight, and such human warmth, it felt nearly sacred. Thank you, Lucius!

Everything about the show was superfect. I didn't even mind the 2 tall people in front of me. Or how the girl's big hair blocked 2/3's of my field of vision. Lucius was that amazing. Their voices were powerful, harmonic, and just sent chills through my bod. Their live performance is tenfolds better than their album, and their album is already a feast for the ears. I would see them again in a heart beat!

Maybe because it was the end of the tour, may because they were back in New York... I dunno, but Lucius kicked a hell of a lot of ass.

Very interesting and different sound. Singing and percussion off the charts! Loved the encore where that sat on the floor with audience circled around.

I had never even heard of Lucius when I first saw them play in concert, opening for the Local Natives. They blew me away with their first song and again, repeatedly. Their performance quality is absolutely amazing live and they are a treat to hear.

I d never heard of Lucius, but I've always had a special place in my heart for women's voices in harmony, so after a couple listens to their web music I thought I'd try them out live. Lucius filled that special place luxuriously with an slightly sad angelic, with a suspicion of the devil lurking, harmonizing. (The devil must have been the guys backing up :) Their unique approach to performance with multiple percussive sources, guitar synthesizing, and an eliminated bass guitar unnoticed by keyboards (2) filling in made the show a refreshing change from the all too familiar modern music delivery combo s. I think Lucius has a compliment of very creative and dedicated participants that make this band click really well. I hope they can keep it together and continue to grow because I m looking forward to experiencing the results.

Went expecting a new-ish band still working out kinks ... what I got was a polished, entertaining performance - start to finish. Charismatic, energetic, captivating - I could go on, I'll stop for you sake. Definitely a must-see.

Lucius is still great - pinpoint vocals, fantastic musicians and terrific songwriting - but gone are the days when you can see them in a small club. Oh, well, I saw them twice before they hit the big time, I will see them again in the future and buy their music of course. I really did not care for the lighting this show either, they were hard to see. The "one-mic" setup kept them from moving around, too. These are just small complaints, everyone should check them out, they are always worth seeing!

Wow...what a show!! I teared up, that's how amazing they were. They sounded fantastic, the song choices were on point, the band members nailed it, the audience was on fire and Jess & Holly were (as always) vocal beasts. I can't get enough of their music and wish I got to see them more than every couple of years.

This is my second time seeing Lucius (first acoustically). They were absolutely incredible and a band that I suggest everyone should see at least once. The band is uniquely original, but remind me of what it must have been like to see Bowie in his early days. Lucius is a band full of talent and possess such a wonderful flair for performance. Never have I seen more gracious and appreciative artists as well.

I ve seen Lucius six times. This was the first fully acoustic show. As the years have gone by, Jess and Holly have managed to get their voices to blend so seamlessly it sometimes seems as if only one person is singing. I did miss the usual part of the show where the ladies go into the audience and sing a song or two but this venue didn t allow for it.

This band is incredible. Holly and Jess have voices that are just too perfect together to be believed. The entire band is so tight with the music and the energy at live shows is infectious. Lucius is a MUST SEE. Not to mention, Music Hall is a great, intimate venue.

Visually intriguing, their music is all over the place from soul (the vocals reminded me of Annie Lennox at one point) to more avant-garde instruments. I have to admit that they can be a bit shrill, but that's probably because I'm a cranky old man. The kids seemed to be mooning over them, though, so good for them.

This was the third Lucius concert I've attended and they continue to deliver. Every single song was amazing. I happened to be in the middle of the crowd so when they performed their customary encore in the middle of the fans I had a front row seat. Truly unforgettable. I'm still buzzing about it. Also my second show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. The venue was great. Intimate without feeling overstuffed. Thanks Steve Madden for the free tix!

I've been to about 30 shows this year and seen many band, big and small, and I have to say - this show surpassed them all!!! Not only are these ladies great musicians, the show itself felt so special and was very memorable. Highlights: These ladies not only rocked the house, but they gave such an interactive performance! First, they crowd-surfed all the way from beginning to end, all awhile singing in harmony and keeping their cool (I would be scared put of my mind!). Secondly, for the encore, they put a mic in the middle of the crowd (which is exactly where I was standing!) and did 3 more songs accousticly with their band, which was by far the most special, intimate experience I've ever had at a concert. We high-fived them by the end of it - it was awesome!!! I was so pumped by the end of it, I was ready to do the whole thing again!!! Oh and Bahamas and Elephant opened for them, which was so great in itself (especially Bahamas!!) I wish I could go to another show of theirs again but I guess I'll have to wait a while before they're back on the road again!

After seeing this band play for tips at small clubs for years. Then breaking through to play warm up for other international acts...they are finally able to fully express themselves in a full length show. I am convinced that they have the right people in the group to sustain a long creative body of work. Showmanship is fun, but in the end, it is the songs that I waken with each morning still reverberating in my head. This show had all the glitz and polish of accomplished headliners, but with an emotional authenticity rarely felt in pop music.

Both of the opening acts surpassed my expectations by a long shot! They were phenominal (Elaphant and Bahamas)! Lucius put on an extremely diverse and well put together show. The vibe in that venue was everything from inspriational to "Oh my god, i'm going to pee my pants from the amount of excitment in this place!" Their talent is almost unreal and if I ever see that they are playing anywhere that I might be, I will never miss it.

Wow...I had no idea that Lucius was going to be soooooo amazing live!! The audience loved every second. People were singing along, dancing and hanging on every last beautiful note. The entire band (including background singers & orchestra) were into every song that they performed. If there were more shows in the area, I would most certainly buy tickets. Amazing energy, fantastic harmonies, great music!!! & then they surf the crowd (so cool) then go down in the middle of the floor with all the fans and jam out with them. This was a serious show. I've seen them a few times now, and it's like they whole lives have been devoted to putting on a kick ass performance.
