I've seen Ben Lee 4 times in 2 1/2 years and thought Bowery Ballroom was one of the best places I've seen him. It had a great vibe and of course Ben Lee was the best.

Joseph Arthur

I went to both nights (Friday and Saturday so a similar review is posted on both nights) Joseph Arthur is an incredible musician (and all around man of the arts) with a strong command of not only his melody lines, but also of the ridiculous amount of electronics used to create loops, vocal effects, guitar effects, ART. He not only played a bunch of awesome songs throughout the evening, but he also did live paintings on stage which were auctioned off later (for Haiti relief). His performance was effervescent and electric. I miss him already... :-(

The Strangefolk Reunion was unbelievably amazing. They were apart for 12 years and never missed a beat. I could close my eyes and be anywhere at any time in the 90s. The energy was palpable. The crowd was on fire, the band was on fire, it was one of the best SF shows I have ever seen.

An amazing show! When I was 19 The D-Plan was my favorite band on earth. I saw them blow Weezer off the stage opening for them in 1994. I saw them a million times when I was going to Mary Washington College (where two of them went) and in DC in the 90s. I was shocked years later when I was going to grad school in New Orleans and they were touring- and came their twice. More and more people seemed to know about them. Now in 2011 they just sold out a major NYC venue, two days in a row- and everybody knew all the words! It was really incredible. They went all they way back to their "!" album for a few choice tracks, but most people seemed more familiar with "Emergency and I." However, everyone knew "Ice of Boston." I forgot how much I loved those fret-less bass lines, I forgot how freaking incredible the drummer is. Poor guitarist was sick (after not touring for 9 years and then only playing 10 gigs, can you imagine?!). Because of that and the fact that there was a dance party starting at midnight the band could only play until 10:45, but they started before 9! They played lots of songs. Every body loved it. Lots of jocking around between songs- I'm glad the band wasn't tense. Way to be band, guys.
