A perfect night in Missoula. The sky was overcast and dark and there was a little bit o f some that cool summer shower action in the area before hand. But Donald and God are mildly connected and the audience was just too refined so we all stayed high and dry. Steely definitely kept pace with the Doobie Bro's at the this show. The 3 guitar flavors and the sax'man from the Doob's were phenomenal. Both Steely and the DBs added in plenty of room for some very tasty long winded Sax and Horn rallies deep in the many of their already super pro played songs. Just gotta go to hear it man you know words can't describe that old school 70's vibe. Mr. Bumpus and Mr. Becker would have strongly approved. Donald spoke like we we're his welcome friends... he made mention of the local scenery which .. how can you beat Big Sky Clark Fork river country. Don't you love it. The 1st band The Doob's totally rocked in their natural outdoor sunny southern Cali setting. Jesus is Alright & China Grove. You know I what you don't hear** is most of the battle. I'm a 1/2 ass audiophile and Friends OMG this was sonically surreal .every nuance was bright the low end was solid. None not a drop of that dam indoor concrete reverb. The sound boards and mike up's were like the studio quality sound we all expect of these two perfect'aholic bands. Kudos to the mixing engineer and road chief and his grips 4a Kid Charlemagne kitchen clean outdoor show you guys DF give'm a RAISE . Mr. Washington on bass take another bow. Mr Joe Herrington and Larry Carlton carry the mail as sweet'n pure as Jeff skunk Baxter & Becker. The Guitar was in full duel with D.F. Fender Rhodes... the had a lot of fun together. The audience was fine collect of polished old schoolers who weren't going back but had a GREAT TIME REELING IN THE YEARS.. oh and that Girl from Seattle that got my # thanks babe that made my night 7167. Come on! Oh we even had a verified sighting of a smiling Mr. Huey Lewis out front in the mix tent for the Doobies then he piled off backstage. Donald was so funny he's minding his P's n Q's because of the recent nutty internet utubes scolding over some silly thang.. he laughed off! Like a true genius should : ) Nice to know he still reads his reviews thought. Well worth the money.. solo . .. with friends or with your honey. PEACE OUT. Dismissed! Go see the show ! No REALLY Go see them this could be it..? Thanks for reading my review. The Smudge..report

The Dobbie Brothers get a 5 Star+ rating. 80+ minutes of classic Dobbie music. In a 4 song sequence, they went from Rock to Country to a Blues Ballad back to Rock. Unbelievable and something only the Dobbie Brothers could pull off. They started at 7:30 on the button with no intro and quickly had people dancing at their seats. Their performance made the whole concert evening. Steely Dan as ok at best. Opened with a long drawn out, lack luster instrumental with only a few members of the band on stage. They only performed 3 songs from their major hits. After one song, Fagen made a very rude comment that turned me off and subdued the audience, "My long time partner (Becker) could not be with us, I guess we can't say he missed the bus, but we will continue on." Fagen vocals were drowned out by the instrumental backup. People were leaving in a steady stream from about an hour into the show and a large segment did not stick around for the encore.

I have been a fan of Steely Dan since the 70's and have never had a chance to see them live. I relocated to the USA two years ago from South Africa where not many live acts travel to. I have of course seen them on DVD but NOTHING can compare to the show we saw on Saturday night. These guys just blew me away. Jon Herrington and Keith Carlock were exceptional. The vocals sounded so full, it could have been a 10 piece choir. To all those Steely Dan fans, I recommend you get out there and see this tour if you are able to. Well done to Donald Fagan and Walter Becker and their brilliant band which they referred to as "The Best Band We Have Ever Had"

I had heard from two other sources that Steely Dan did not perform well live but they were just flat wrong. The band was strong, Fagan was great on vocals and the backup singers were spot on. While I like the 360 venue itself, it is way too far out of town and the transportation options to get there and back are pitiful. I am unlikely to go back to that venue until they offer a shuttle system to downtown or another location in the city limits.

My first time to see this legendary band at the Hollywood Bowl. When Steely Dan opened with their single "Black Cow" the crowd went static and began chilling out with their performance all night long. Some were dancing while mostly were just listening to the music passionately with their glass of wine. Despite not performing "Deacon Blues" and the well-known "Do it again" Steely Dan is one of the most respected bands of all time making them the Alternative band of their time.

The music flowed for almost 3 hours. Walter was delightfully witty and the girls were great! We enjoyed mostly non-stop Steely Dan, with pieces from each decade. Enough to make everyone happy. Thank you Steely Dan.

Elvis Costello opened, so unfortunately he played an abbreviated set. Still, he played some of the big numbers and mixed in a few obscure tracks. His voice is still excellent and the band was tight behind him. The crowd was so-so, which was too bad because he totally rocked. Would have loved to seen the full set. Steely Dan was classy as always. I've seen them before and unfortunately they pretty much play the same set list every time. However, Donald Fagan was in fine form and sounded as good as I've ever heard. Walter Becker's Hey Nineteen rant is always a crowd pleaser and the band is full of serious musicians that really bring it.

Both Elvis and Steely were incredible. Elvis being the suave, impeccably dressed professional that he is and the MACHINE that is Steely Dan. Steely has found a new way to be loose and tight at the same time. Songs turned, pulsated and moved in machine-like fashion while not making things sound static. At times, they were a driving locomotive. Their accompanying band is ALWAYS impeccable complete with incredible horns and dynamic and thunderous, "back-up" singers....they were very much a force of their own! Don't be fooled to think it's a studio band who play the songs just like they are on the radio. With Steely Dan you get the songs you love with some improve..it's amazing to see this tight band play. My only wish was that it was louder but that's a Shoreline thing.

Every minute from the 3 piece opening act through the Dan's last encore was filled with exquisite musicianship. Becker and Fagan were relaxed and just having fun! was pretty much disappointed w/fagens singing.he sounded very little like the steely dan recordings ive enjoyed over the years.as the show progressed it got a little better.also,no fault of the bands but i was seated on fagens side.thinking i wouldve enjoyed more sitting on beckers side as i'm a guitar enthusiast and was just too far away to see what was going on over on that side of the stage

Went to see SD last July in OKC. Such a disappointment - time has taken it toll. While the instrumental section is talented, Fagan, on his last strained screech, will have you hoping he does not pop a vein. I noticed that my less than favorable reaction was shared by the majority of the crowd. The first half of the concert was the SD music of the 80's and later, after they got back together - not the great music SD played in the early 70's. I guess they still hope that will sell. The second half was received much more favorably by all, as they played the 70's music that made them - even though a couple of their biggest hits were omitted. Even cultic fans will have to struggle to overlook all the shortcomings. Do yourself a favor by going out and buying the "Best of" CD (from the early 70's only). You will thank me later.

Steely Dan is the best! This is the 6th Steely Dan concert that I have attended in Atlantic City, and they have never been better. The led off the evening with "Black Cow" and ended with "Kid Charlemagne." The crowd was in the concert from the first minute when the band came pout and perfomed Black Cow. When Josie and Reeling in the Years was played the crowd stood and danced in the aisles. The evening was one hit after another. The band was sharp, as always, as they played a bevy of their hits. I always look forward to their concerts because their catalogue of music is so large, I will always hear somemthing different. The back-up singers are wonderful. Cindy Mizelle is the epitome of beaity and talent! The three back-up singers sang "Dirty Work." Another wonderful Steely Dan performance!

The show started with a warm-up Jazz Trio, who was very good, but more for sitting in a nightclub while sipping martinis. They played for 30 minutes, then the stage was readied for Steely Dan for the next 20+ minutes. Seemed like it took forever. When all 13 people in the band hit the stage, it was a familiar and welcomed sound. I believe they started with Aja. The problem for me was that they played quite a few of their more obscure songs, and not enough of the old standbys which really get the crowd going. Everything started to sound the same and each song would go on way too long into "improvisational jazz oblivion." My husband kept saying, "Didn't they already play this one...about 3 times?" haha. It was an enjoyable show, however, and they are amazing musicians. Glad I got to see the show.

The core of Steely Dan has always been Walter Becker and Donald Fagen who have constantly changed bandmates both while touring and in the studio. This group of musicians may be the best they have ever assembled a point my several times by Becker during the course of the evening. Their arrangements, chord progressions and musical style requires all performers to be on top of their game every nite and it certainly was this evening at the beautiful Palace Theater. A true throwback, the band played non stop for over two hours still leaving the audience wanting more with a show that was all about the music. No big screen videos, no dramatic light shows, fireworks or fog machines. This was all about the interplay of great background singers, excellent horn section, outstanding guitar work all supported by one of the best drummers and rhythm sections in the world. The variety of songs from as far back as their first albums in the early 70's were energized by new interpretations in almost a free form jazz style. These guys are not an "oldies" band but an ever evolving group of artists that can continue to bring their fans joy and love through their music. A group that is a must see whenever they are within a 100 mile radius.

If you want to go hear a great jam band, this is your show. If you are looking to hear the hits, you may be disappointed. They only did 4 hits in the set list in Greensboro. If you have purchased premium seats, exchange them for cheap seats. For last third of the concert the band has told the venues to allow the fans to approach the stage. Here is a statement from Andrew Brown, Public Relations Manager of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex when I complained about people blocking our view after paying $289 for 6th row seats. "Please be aware the Steely Dan tour asked us to allow patrons to walk down closer to the stage, dance, etc. for the last 3-4 songs of the concert. Again, this was something done at the direction of tour management, and is allowed at all of their shows on this tour (and is a practice that is not entirely uncommon for current touring shows)."

Over 40 years Walter Becker and Donald Fagan has been playing their blend of rock/jazz/r&b. They (we) are not as young as they used to be but their music is timeless. Steely Dan's classics bring back memories and the soundtrack of our life. Fagan sings with the same emotion as he always has and Becker plays his guitar effortlessly . The audience is older and mellower so sadly there isn't as much dancing in the aisle that there used to be. This is the third time I have seen Steely Dan over the past years in cities like Dallas, Tulsa and OKC. I Cant wait to see Steely Dan again.

Steely Dan put on one of the best shows I have ever been to. The wall of sound. The layers, the horns, the guitars, the back up singers, the lyrics, the timeless hits! The crowd was mature and stayed seated so everyone could see throughout the concert. It was absolutely one of the best ever. Usually you get some older guy with a younger girl and she's three sheets to the wind and screams throughout, next to you or stands throughout in front of you. This was just ideal.

Make no mistake, Steely Dan is a tight, talented ensemble, but they have left any memory of their limited rock roots behind. I was especially disappointed by the new jazz arrangement of one of my favorites, "Show Biz Kids." Also disappointing was a set list void of several of their biggest hits including "Do it Again" and "Ricky don't lose that number." That said, they are still a very good act and quite worth seeing. Donald Fagan appears to have his ego in check and Walter Becker remains a down to earth guy you'd love to have a beer with.

The horns were excellent! Guitars, impeccable! The Dan-ettes blew me away! And Donald's still got it! There was nothing flashy about this concert, and I would have been disappointed if it was. It's not about the lights and the costumes and the flashy stage; it's just about the music, and that's what we got at this concert; 90 minutes of some of the best Steely Dan since the early days. Even if you only remember a few of the standouts, like Reelin' in the Years, Josie or Aja, you have to see Steely Dan live before they decide they're ready to hang it up. You won't be sorry! We were very impressed with the acoustics in this theater. Being our first time there, we had no idea how a rock band would sound. It was great, you could hear the singers and the horns separately without the drums muffling them out. The light show was good too, a good variety of color themes for the different songs. One suggestion: Get a screen, so the folks in the back row can actually see who is performing. All venues have them, you should update to accommodate us in the back.

Awesome concert! Steve Winwood was great and Steely Dan was amazing! It was a no frills stage for both performers and proves you don't need all the props when you are delivering old fashioned rock and roll! Both Steve Linwood & Steely Dan played all of the fans favorites and made us remember the "good old days" for sure! It was wicked hot and humid though since we are in Florida and with a much older crowd (most of the audience was over 55) you could see the heat taking its toll. Too bad this concert wasn't at an indoor venue since it would have made for a much more pleasant experience for those of us in the audience!

Exceptional show! Becker and Fagan continue to hone their skills and create a musical experience totally unique while nailing the hits with additional twists and turns. Always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS have an exceptionally TIGHT band complete with out-of-this-world back up singers. At times the tunes rumbled and drove like a run away locomotive, thick with sound and layering. Tunes feel new and fresh but give you the nostalgia and chance to dance and belt out the words just like you remember. I've hit every tour for years now. Good stuff!

First off other than the venue not being the easiest access, it is the coolest outdoor venue. Great views of the lake, boats, skyline. Steve Winwood and Steely Dan were awesome. Bottom line, great musicians great venue, great evening that I won't forget for a long time.

This was my first time seeing Steely Dan in concert (many in the crowd sported shirts from previous outtings.) Brought three generations to the event and all three had a great night. My son remarked at how surprised he was to know more than a few songs. My father loved that they went back and played the majority of hits including "Reeling In the Years." I had a good time. I am fan enough to recognize most of the songs by name, but not versed enough to be able "sing along" as some were. Loved the solos and a few of the stories. All in all well worth the experience.

The band was tight: One could close ones eyes and it was almost like being home listening to the album, which they played in the order in which it was recorded on the album. It was a wonderful experience for me, as I've wanted to see them play since I was a teenager. The show did not disappoint at all. They also played Hey Nineteen, FM, My Old School, and Kid Charlemagne. The encore included Bodhisattva. Incredible show, with great mixing by the soundboard. The Beacon is a great place to see a show!

I've always liked Steely Dan, but I've become a serious Dan Fan over the past few years and have collected their albums. As I'm 30, this is the first time I was able to see them in concert. I've never been to a "bad" show at Pine Knob (I refuse to call it by its sponsorship name, like practically everybody), the venue alone is an absolute gem. But the stars aligned tonight and it was one of the best shows I've seen there (and I see about a dozen per year). Many groups leave a bit to be desired in live performances, but Donald, Water, and a fantastic ensemble of brass, drums, bass, and beautiful backup singers proved that Steely Dan is one of the few artists I've seen who actually sound better in person. I went alone, bought an actual pavilion ticket, and it was well worth every penny of the $60. Elvis Costello opened and didn't disappoint either. It was a fantastic show that had me in musical heaven for 3-1/2 hours. I will surely see them again the next time they come around, and you'd be foolish not to.

Steely Dan was great, playing most of their hits (except "Deacon Blues" and "FM" - my favorite) and several deep cuts. They were one of my favorite bands from the 70's and there was a lot of nostalgia in their music. I had forgotten how much the drum part carried "Aja" (very impressive drumming performance). Donald Fagan performed well and sang great although he was looking old and stiff. Walter Becker was even older and stiffer (and much overweight) and performed sub-par; I was disappointed that he only played two good solos and left much of the lead playing to the touring guitarist. Overall, the touring band looked and sounded great and carried all of the songs well. Bottom line - Steely Dan is in their 50th year; this is probably their last go-around for these Rock and Roll Hall of Famers; I recommend that you see them if you can!!! Elvis Costello and The Imposters performed a seemingly flawless and very professional performance. Although I have never been a big fan of his, it was still an enjoyable experience.

A tremendous double-bill that did not disappoint! Elvis Costello led off with a 1-hour, very stripped down performance that was probably just slightly affected by the still unsettled audience (lots of open seats) and the searing late day heat. That said, he mixed up the show with some new and some old but gave real energy to some classics like Radio/Radio, Pump It Up, Watching The Detectives and What's So Funny ('Bout Peace, Love and Understanding). His last tour with The Imposters was better, but then he was the headliner. As far as SD -- wow! They've been on my bucket list for more than 30 years and I had always been scared off by what I'd heard -- not great live, too much of a studio band. Well, all I can say is that they have nailed it now. At this point in their careers, the show is all about greatest hits and they did not skimp on serving it up. This band is tight and features some really top-notch musicians. Fagan's voice, while not able to hit the real highs anymore (he's not alone) is still signature. One thing I did realize by seeing them live is what an awesome arranger he is. It was two hours of back to back hits that kept delivering. Especially fine was the performance of "Dirty Work" featuring the vocals of the female backup singers. Strong renditions of My Old School, Black Cow (kicked off the show), Reelin In the Years (which in the past they hated to play), and Hey 19.

Top notch musicians, top notch songs and top notch production. This is the sixth time I have seen Steely Dan and I can't think of a single thing that would have made it better. Also excellent equipment. The Midas console at FOH and the guy knew how to run it. Becker's six Dr. Z's. I hope Fagan has a room full of Fender Rhodes somewhere for the future. This concert was right in my back yard, but I have driven over 400 miles to see them before, and would do so again. Thanks for coming to Oklahoma City.

A perfect evening of music with two icons of my music formative years and a band overflowing with talent and energy. I was initially disappointed when the Arena refused to allow cameras. However, it WAS pretty nice to watch a concert without all the LED screens distracting from the show and me fretting with getting pictures and video instead of just sitting back and enjoying a concert that was as good as I'd hoped it would be.

Seasoned Artists like Walter Becker and Donald Fagen still have what it takes to send the concert go-ers dancing in the aisles at The Forum in Inglewood this past Saturday night. Wow! The were Amazing opening with a few songs from the Aja album "Black Cow", "Aja" and continuing with their songs from the 1970s "Dirty Work", "My Old School". They played for 2 hours straight, it was a good time of non stop hit after hit. They have an exceptional new drummer, lead guitar and female backup singers that compliment the original artists.

I saw Steely Dan in San Francisco last year and the show they just played at the Forum in LA had same band of amazing muscians however the show was more or less identical to the one i saw last year- Enjoyed it but a little slow and wish they would have done more of their rock oriented material rather than the slower jazz songs. Still worth seeing if you have never seen them

Every musician a professional of the highest caliber. Drummer Keith Carlock more than exceptional - Unbelievable. Backing vocals dead-on. (And not bad to look at I may add :) Freddie Washington on Bass is as solid as anyone can get with a roll and a hum and rhythm that make you think he's not there, but he so "is". Horn section melodies and harmonies - nailed. Donald's vocals intact and matched up well this group of backing singers. How they can be so much like the original recordings is a huge smile!. It's not hard to say this moves into the top 5 all time shows I've seen, and have seen some great ones. And it moves higher in terms of musical performance and sound. Yes, close to a #1. Let you know when the jury returns. :)

Steely Dan is never going to be a bad show, but was disappointed in the "Request Night" show at the Beacon. Based upon the crowd reaction to some of the song selections (energy died, people getting up for drinks/Rest room) it was pretty obvious that the band selected the songs. Donald Fagan was his typical amazing self and the band was terrific. Walter Becker is basically a cardboard cutout on stage and I'm not convinced he was actually playing guitar. He sang Daddy Don't Live in NYC and it was an utter train wreck. Besides his random rambling in the middle of a couple songs, it is unclear what his role is anymore. I saw the Royal Scam last year and it was a much better show. If you haven't seen Steely Dan, I would recommend the show, but if you are a fan looking for some deep tracks (pretzel logic, Haitian Divorce, Katy Lied, Royal Scam) your better bet is a complete album show..

Lovely little venue snuggled behind Raleigh Convention Center! Incomparable band! Time has not put a hitch in their giddy-up! Literally, the most fun I've had all summer. This show promises to to make you take down your gray ponytail and shake your groove thang. I took my son (30) and he really enjoyed it. He loved the opening band so much he bought the CD merch. I forget their name ..... maybe blue oyster trio or blue orchid trio. They were good though!!! I will absolutely go to RED HAT AMPHITHEATER again and I'll always be looking out for another STEELY DAN show to come 'round these parts.

Just saw the show last night in North Charleston and was awesome. Lights and sound teams did just ok but didn't matter as the band rocked anyway! One concern I have is that is appears that Walter Becker and stepped aside to let the "lead Guitarist" rock all but 1 or 2 solo's. Is he ok health wise because he appeared to just look to be playing at times and sometimes didn't even move his hands. Saw him 2 yrs ago and he did all the solo s and I loved every min of it. I pray he's ok and just letting the younger folks have the fun.. Any Thoughts?

I've been a huge fan since the 70's, but have never seen them live. I took my wife to the St. Augustine Amphitheatre and had the best time. the quality of musicians were as expected, superb. the banter between the audience and Fagan/Becker was hilarious. superb musicians, great music by people who appreciate their fans and a great venue created an unforgettable night by 60 year old musicians who kick the crap out of the current generation of bands. I can wait to see them next year. thanks Steely Dan for the best night we've had in years :-)

I am not a huge Steely Dan fan but I am somewhat familiar with their music and know that they are legends that had to be crossed off my must see live list. The most memorable song for me is Rikki Don t Lose That Number . This was the song that was playing in the movie Say Anything as Diane Court s dad was driving to the retirement home to tell Diane she had won the fellowship to study in England. His singing along is what had made it stick in my mind all these years. Donald Fagen s voice cracked a bit in the beginning but warmed up after a couple of songs. When Walter Becker first addressed the crowd he mentioned that they were cold on stage. America s Cup Pavilion is a fairly cold venue. If you are in the bleachers you can feel that breeze come off the water. Standing up and moving around will help warm you up. The stage has side panels but you can see them move in the wind so I can see how the artists could feel the chill just like the audience. That may have been a factor in the need for Donald s voice to warm up. The show started a bit slow for me, as the songs at the beginning of their set weren t ones that I am that familiar with. Once they started playing songs that were more recognizable Josie , Peg and Reelin in the Years I felt that the show picked up. The audience started dancing and was more engaged. Sadly they didn t perform Rikki Don t Lose That Number . Deep Blue Organ Trio, a jazz trio opened up the show. The drummer, Greg Rockingham, introduced everyone and announced it was their birthday to get people to applaud. They were definitely talented, but too mellow for my taste.

Concert was a lot of fun! It was really nice to reminisce with one of my favorite bands of all time! My only negative point, sadly to admit is the sound of poor Mr. Fagen s voice. With today's ridiculous ticket prices, I was happy to be able to get 2 tickets for under $100. Not the best SD show I have seen, but was happy they didn't play Rikki.... Razor Boy was a nice change from the standards. Would like to see more from Two Against Nature. Come on... it won the Grammy for album of the year and I have yet to see Jack of Speed live! I was glad to see Harrington still on stage with the guys. The America's Cup Pavilion was a top notch venue. How do you beat a view of the SF hills at night? The only thing that would have made it better was a view of the bay - a little further out on the pier. No complaints here.

2.5 hours of perfect musicianship on a beautiful night east of Portland. Donald Fagen's voice showed a little strain, probably the rigors of the road. Apart from that quibble Steely Dan reeled in the years for me. As for the music, every note remained vital, fresh and memorable as the day they were recorded. This concert will stay with me always. Catch this tour. You'll feel the same way.
