I love that Maria combines her life as a bi-polar with her comedy. I got a photo of her during the Q&A ,

Maria Bamford is funny, wise, and refreshingly unique. I've been a fan for years and was happy to see that she would come to Portland Maine, as not many big name entertainers come this far. I was happy to see the venue sold out for this show.

One of the best nights I've had in a long time. I'd been waiting two years to see Maria Bamford, and my god, that lady is a genius. Must also give two very enthusiastic thumbs up to Robert Mac and Nato Green.

My first live Maria B performance, but I'd enjoyed her audiobook and cable shows. I was able to follow 97.3 % of her lines, but Neo-Bamford's like my wife struggled a bit picking up some of Maria's grumbling asides. I loved the show, including the opener and featured performers. The only missing bit [for me] was Maria encountering her high school friend at Target. I can't look at "Press debit or credit" when I'm checking out somewhere without hearing her voice. The venue was terrific [my first visit] for standup, and the servers were friendly and always there when needed. Altogether a great night.

So I know Nato. We're not mates, just crossed paths at a work-related political function. That's why I went: curious to see what he was doing in hs new gig and I have no bias at all. But... His was the funniest set. Not sure how broad an audience he'll reach as it was very pithy, very San Fran, stereotypical lefty-jewish humour. But FUNNY. And isn't that a large part of the purpose of a comedy show? To be funny? The second comedian (I'm ignoring the two-song silliness that crept in after Nato) was also the second funniest. Very, very droll and, frankly, over the heads of quite a few audience members. He has some work to do but I can see Mr. Mac rising to the level of a John Stewart, he's that sharp. As for the headliner? Frankly I'd never heard of her so checked her on YouTube. There she has a few decent skits; Tuesday night she was unfocussed, often rambled and rarely got a laugh from anyone other than a couple of loyal fans. I wouldn't go to see just her again; if Nato and Robert build on their sets so it's not too repetitive, I'd check them out again. Hopefully when the set order is right and they're headlining.

One of the best comics on tour these days! Have seen many stand-up comics and Maria's view on life's foibles and relationships are insighful, moving, and above all, truly hilarious. She has it dialed-in with voices, acting, and split second timing. Nato Green and Robert "Backpack" Mac were great pluses to the evening. That the SF Punchline is a terrific space for stand-up audiences was one more reason to have attended. Thank you Maria and all, just awesomely effective!!!

Have loved her on Comedy Central. Got to catch an intimate show in a small venue recently and she had my friend and I laughing so hard we had tears running down our faces. Bamford is a quirky, off kilter performer who bares her slightly-less-than-sane soul to her audience, holding nothing back. Comedians willing to reveal warts and all are always the funniest...they are like a high wire act operating without a net. I was surprised she had so much fresh material as I don't think this show was part of a new tour. If you get a chance to see this lady, grab it! (Her show is clean, but perhaps too sophisticated for kids.)

Maria Bamford was outstanding! We were sooo disappointed with Sarah Silverman the week before, and my wife had never seen Maria, so I was a bit worried we'd have two weak shows in a row, but she did not disappoint. Keep bringing the funny!

Hysterical! So funny and so unique. She had us laughing from start to finish. Maybe not for everyone, but then again, she's so charming she might win over even those who think her humor is too "out there."

Maria is absolutely phenomenal. Also, the seats are great. It is such a well set up theater that the gist few rows in the balcony offer a great view. Obviously they are not the best, but for the price they are wonderful.

I have been a long time fan of Maria Bamford. However, I brought my BF to this show and I warned him before hand that she is weird and he might not get it. He doesn't always like things that are too weird. However, Maria actually opened up her own show with a disclaimer about how if you got brought to her show by a friend that you might not be into it. What she said was WAY funnier, but I don't want to give away her jokes and ruin the show for you. Well, he was laughing his butt off the whole time. And I laughed so hard I cried. It was a great show. I would see Maria anytime.

the sound system was garbled. the audience were a bunch of cackling sycophants eager to let one another know they got the punchline. consequently, the performance as a whole was disjointed and incoherent. i love maria but will wait to enjoy her next performance at home where i can savor her technique and insights.

Awful performance. The warm up lady was terrible and a total liberal who had to throw in a political statement as she was walking off the stage.

Maria Bamford--the voice, the voices, the movement, the wit, the sounds, the topics, the absolutely individual idiosyncratic special viewpoints and insights, the humor, the uniqueness, the drive, the connection with the audience, the joy, the murmuring to herself, the intensity, the stage presence, the stage pictures and poses, the fart parade, the hair, the generosity, the bammer humility, the family stories, the mastery, the intelligence--all there, all in top form, unforgetable.

Maria's stilted, discursive style is part of her schtick, I know, and she can be very funny working this "improv", stream-of-conscience type approach. The issue is that once she's engaged you, the disruption and lack of flow can disengage and leave you wandering in your own mind. Maybe this is part of what she's trying to achieve?

Maria Bamford is hilarious. Even from the second balcony (nosebleeds) she was engaging and amusing. Seat review: It was worthwhile to see the historical information up there; this was the colored section of the theatre pre-segregation - it is a meaningful experience to sit up there and be mindful of this.

4 of us went to the show together. We all agreed it was the most unfunny show we've ever seen. I thought maybe it was just me....but the other 3 and I laughed out loud after the show about how bad it was....or maybe it was just us? I literally did not laugh out loud one time.

Bamford was engaging and at a few times funny. Her opening was a little pandering, which I would not expect from such an eccentric comedian. Her material was more of a downer than an upper, which makes sense because only one or two jokes were good enough to be memorable. Overall disappointed.

Saw Maria Bamford and the opening act last Friday night. Both acts were hilarious, give them each 5 stars. For $43 per ticket, you'd think the Wilbur would turn on the heat. Had to be in the low 50s when we arrived, never got much above 60 degrees IMO. I will never go back to the Wilbur.

I knew Maria Bamford was different/quirky but this show was pathetically sad, no fun at all, most of the jokes were recycled, available on youtube for some time. The ending was meant to be funny (farting noises) but it continued for over 1.5 minutes and ended up to be insulting.

I have always loved Bamford's comedy and to have an opportunity to see her in person was better than I could have ever imagined. Jackie Kashian opened for her and I could not have been more delighted as I was not aware that she was on the show until I arrived. If you get a chance to see either of these comedians, you will not regret it. To have the chance to see both in the same venue is the best value you'll get as far as front line comedy goes--these women are amazing!! You will laugh the entire show, .

My husband and I are huge Maria Bamford fans. She has so much great material and we were a little disappointed that what we thought were her strongest were left out. Unfortunately it was a little flat. It was a treat to see her live and we had a great night. We just left feeling as if it wasn't finished (Marilyn didn't make enough appearances) Opening acts were all over the board. It was painful to sit through profanity and screaming. The final pre-performer was fantastic and stole the whole night. Thanks Maria for coming all the way to St. Louis!!

The Balboa Theatre is gorgeous and was easy to get around. Christian and Luis were really great bartenders and made a kickass Manhattan. Maria Bamford is, of course, a genius of her craft and a gift to the world and if you don't agree your sense of humor needs tuning. It was great seeing Jackie and Christine as well; I'd never heard of them and loved both their acts. All three were provocative without being cruel or bitter, and got very real without ever losing the funny. I had an amazing time.

I pity those who haven't experienced Maria Bamford, whether through her stand-up or her TV shows, or cosmically. She's a true original. And those voices and facial expressions she comes up with! Best of all she keeps adopting old pugs, knowing they're going to die on her. Not just funny but a nice human being.

I realize Maria Bamford's type of humor isn't for everyone, as she also acknowledges in her War Horse bit. Unless you're completely uptight and don't like having fun, you will absolutely walk out of her show with sore cheeks from laughing so much. Maria's comedy pulls from her own life experiences, and shares them in such a way that you can't help but laugh. Her various voices and impressions, as well as her sound effects and visual antics, keep you laughing the entire time. Give her a try and you'll see why so many people love her!
