For me, Matt Nathanson just makes me smile. To me, he is not just a musician but a freakily talented poet, and his lyrics pop into my head at the best times. For example, last week, for my 50th birthday, I climbed up to the top of Haleakela Crater in Hawaii, with my family, at 4 am. When the sun began to peak, I turned to them and said, "Hey, we are watching the sky turn on." (Gold in the Summertime). He's so fun, too. Humble, sexy, and really, really talented. I've seen him a few times. This show was the Notes4Hope in Orinda, CA. A benefit for breast cancer. It was pouring - I mean, POURING rain -and then began to STORM - lol! - my husband had his emergency blanket wrapped around his head and shoulders looking all John Stark-ish, me and my 11 year old daughter and her friend (first concert ever) wore emergency ponchos and had on every article of clothing. Matt stuck it out in the rain for 19 songs ! 3 more than anticipated, just because of the fans who were soaking wet yet still rocking.

It's an all in 1 show...comedy, great voice, and just an overall fun night. I love that he interacts with the crowd and is just overall a great, personable guy. Best show and loved the intimate venue.

I attended Matt's show at Rough Trade in Brooklyn. Matt and Aaron preformed amazingly! Matt's stage presence, as well as his interaction with the crowd made this one of the best shows I've ever attended. The size of the venue made it a very intimate setting! I would recommend that everyone take the chance to see Matt in one of these small club shows! Amazing show Matt!

Matt Nathanson is from the SF Bay Area and if you go to concerts and festivals around here you've probably seen him. He has built a strong loyal following of fans like myself who were thrilled to see him as the headliner at the beautiful Fox Theater. While his music is decent, it is his comedic charm and banter that make his shows so enjoyable. It's surprising he opened with one of his best songs, the fairly new song "Mission Bells". He played old and new fr his fans. My friends in Denver see him at the Gothic Theater Tuesday even knowing the show is being broadcast live on AXS TV. Should be a memorable performance

This is the 3rd time I've seen Matt and I have to say he just gets better and better. I love seeing him in small venues because it's so much more intimate and with his comedy in between songs, so you feel like he is speaking right to you!

Matt Nathanson is a high energy performer! He gave it his all and then some at the Wiltern. His songs have wonderful music and brilliant lyrics. The Wiltern was a beautiful location and every seat was great. In addition to the fantastic concert, he engages the audience and makes them a part of the show - raising the energy even higher. Overall, it was a great show and I would encourage anyone to see Matt Nathanson when they get the chance. Joshua Radin was the opening act and he was great. I'd even go see him on his own. It was a GREAT night!!!!

Really? While he did perform the music basically on key I didn t care for the new music. The new music seemed pretty superficial (for example lots of songs with Oh-Oh, he must really like songs like Sweet Escape\u2026.). However what really annoyed my wife and I was his attitude, he acted as if he was God s gift to women and the world. My wife commented boy he really loves himself. He made strange commentary and while it was typically brief most of it appeared intended to make us part of some inside sex imagery. After a while we were just tired of hearing what basically translates to another over the top sex song. It was somewhat unpleasant and uncomfortable to watch. After we were asked to be part of a Whitney Houston I just wanna dance with somebody sing along my wife and I had had enough and we took off. I did like his performance of Car crash and would have liked to have heard Come on get higher and Faster (which I assume he performed) but not enough to make it though the Whitney sing along. If you want to have Matt Nathanson s baby I m sure his concerts will appeal to you, but he won t be on our future concert list.

Matt Nathanson did not disappoint, I honestly thought it was the best concert that I've been to, ever. The venue was perfect for his show, very intimate. Loved every minute! And I loved that if we bought a t-shirt, we got a meet and greet! Matt is the most sweetest down-to-earth guy I've met!

One of the best singer/songwriters of his generation. This concert was a great mix of old songs and new. Just acoustic guitars made it have a real feel too it and made me able to connect to the music more. Overall an Awesome show and I have seen Matt 6 times in the last 4 years.

Matt Nathanson gave an amazing show at the Brighton Music Hall on Monday, September 28th. The smaller venue was a great place to have a concert like this. Matt not only played to his fans, he interacted with them. Also, the Meet and Greet with Matt was a great way to end the evening!

Matt Nathanson is the type of performer who you instantly feel a connection with. Not only are his songs a combination of beauty and fun, but his humor completes the show. In such a small and personal venue, he absolutely nails it. This was an amazing acoustic show! I have seen him multiple times and I have to say this might have been his best.

I have seen Matt about 4 times now. He is SO good. The guy really knows how to entertain an audience whether it's a small, intimate one or large venue. He is incredibly witty, so quick in fact, that most of the audience misses his jokes. Each show has been incredibly unique and personal. Thank you Matt!

This was my second time seeing Matt live and I was not disappointed. Matt brings great energy that engages the audience. If he wasn't having as much fun as the crowd he surely didn't show it. The only way for Matt to make is shows any better is to play for 3-4 hours! Even that would probably leave you wanting more. I haven't witnessed a show with more energy since Springsteen. It was my first introduction to Andrew McMahon he was a great lead. Andrew exudes a ton of energy as well. Both are exceptional lyricists. I would recommend these two performers to anyone that can appreciate great words and music.

We have attended so many amazing concerts at the Pavilion over the years. We loved Andrew McMahon as the opening act. He was entertaining, had a great personality and sounded fabulous. Gavin DeGraw was the entertainer we really wanted to see so we were happy he was on before Matt Nathanson. Gavin totally blew us away. He was so great it is hard to put into words. His voice, his personality, wow! Entertainer of the year! We waited for Matt Nathanson and he was quite self absorbed. After 25 minutes of mostly chatter and not much singing we left with most of the original crowd. I would like to say I support our hometown guy but I just cannot. Gavin is the man.

Well first off you can't go wrong with the venue, beautiful night, boats on the water and stars in the sky. Then you have Matt, great music with fun stories. Journeyman musician and bandleader Andrew McMahon continues to surprise. Gavin DeGraw (and band) were frenetic, polished and tight. They brought the house down. Then Matt Nathanson strolled out. With his incessant hip-grinding, his constant pandering to the local audience, His exhortations to sing along during riffs that added nothing to the performance - his show became unbearably dull. The only shining moment was the 1 acoustic song he played. The last time I saw Matt Nathanson was when he spoke at the Proctor Academy commencement and sang genuinely - songs that meant something to people that he cared were listening. That was missing in this show. It was Matt N being all about Matt N.

I've been a Matt fan for well over 10 years now, and seeing him live is an amazing experience. He rocks, he interacts with the audience, he cracks jokes and just generally has a party on stage. This, plus he drips sexuality on stage because practically every single one of his songs is about sex and/or sexual relationship. And those hips. OMG! Not for the younger crowd but if you're 18+ and you want to have an extraordinarily fun night, he's your man!

Matt Nathanson, as he has done many times in the past, once again rocked the socks right off my feet. Was I giddy? Yes. Did I sing along so loud I was hoarse the next day? Yes. Did he pull me up on stage to sing "Run" with him? No, but there's still time for that dream to come true. To sum it up, the man holds his audience hostage with an intent to murder them with a lethal dose of awesome. Every. time. he. takes. the. stage.

Both Gavin and Matt were great. They really fed off of the audience and included them in their performances. My two sisters (18 and 25 years old) and a friend (18 years old) enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to see these artists again. Matt Nathanson, especially, is about his audience. He wants to have a good time with his fans and includes them to participate. We feel that other artists should go see Matt Nathanson so they can learn his concert style.

Matt Nathanson is probably one of the most hard working people in show business. He puts his heart and soul into what he does, whether it's song writing, playing, or making jokes with the crowd. He constantly gets the crowd involved and tells stories that make you laugh. His knowledge of music is expansive and he truly reflects that in his shows. He throws in other artists's songs here and there and gets the crowd smiling and singing. As his "merch" says, "I Love Music More Than People" but me means more than ANYTHING!

Felt like a jam session, laid back and fun. He's so funny too... No pretenses either. When it was time for the encore, he let the audience choose to the option to clap and him exit and come back, or just sing. We chose and he just sang. Mashed up songs from other artists without missing a beat and leaving you wondering how he mashed two such songs together Like grease, Whitney Houston, Iggy, and George Michael. Crazy. Did great cover of Petty's American Girl. Favorite part was when he sang new single, Headphones but really liked hard rocking Detroit Wave. Great time!

I went to see Matt Nathanson at River Bend in Cincinnati two days before this show in his summer tour with Gavin DeGraw. That performance was as excellent as always: the band played their best-known and most popular songs. They riled the crowd, they strutted onstage, and they cranked the volume. The audience was really worked up and Matt Nathanson was a rockstar. I came to this event at the Mercury Ballroom in Louisville thinking it could be a bit of a letdown after seeing him on the big stage with all the bells and whistles. Smaller venue, tiny stage without the lighting and backdrops, general admission tickets, and not a huge crowd. I'd seen Matt Nathanson a couple of times at Headliners and knew he could deliver a good show in a smaller theater, but I didn't expect it to live up to the Cincinnati experience. Glad to say I was wrong. This was by far the best performance I've seen. Matt Nathanson seemed to be playing for friends. He played several of his lesser hits, including a couple of unaccompanied acoustic numbers, that he doesn't get to perform at bigger events. It seemed like he was sharing more of the personal Matt Nathanson instead of the public Matt Nathanson. The band pulled Andrew McMahon (of Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness/Jack's Mannequin, the lead-in band at Mercury Ballroom) out to the stage a couple of times to play keyboard and sing, including a Tom Petty cover that had the crowd just about shaking the theater off its foundation. I purchased a tee and met Matt Nathanson after the show and he was gracious and humble and funny--if I weren't already a huge fan I would have become one after watching this awesome performance and meeting him.

Absolutely LOVED this show! Great performances from Gavin as always and even though I only know a few songs from Matt Nathanson, he was great! I went to see Gavin cuz I love his music and he is an extremely talented guy! Not only that, he is the sweetest person I've ever met! I was happy to get to do the meet and greet with him again, second time meeting him in two months, and he always introduces himself to u as if u don't know who he is or what his name is! Shakes your hand and asks your name. So personable, so sweet, and engages u, and makes u feel like u r the only person in the room with him! And when he sings! Just breathtaking! Connects with his audience, makes eye contact with u from on stage. Just the best all around! And during his encore when they let us crowd the stage! High fives all around from Gavin!

I've seen him two other times this year: in Connecticut and in New York City (where he hosted a Halloween costume contest). Each show was better than the previous, even when I thought there was no way he could top it. He's a modest person. He graciously and sincerely thanks his fans for coming by. Further, he seems to glow when the fans sing along. It feels like a reciprocated appreciation for each other. That's something no other artist in concert has ever achieved with me, even in smaller events. Beyond that, he is hilarious and makes somewhat of 20% of his set a stand up comedy show. That really amps up the entire energy of the concert. Finally, the music is incredible, and I always thought Matt Nathanson was just so much more incredible live. He incorporates the audience into his songs, and makes it an interactive event. Seriously the best all around performer I have ever seen.

We just saw Matt at the Record Bar in Kansas City and it was an amazing acoustic show. It was so cool to see him in small venue; it felt more like a fun party than a concert. He has such a stage presence, playing up the crowd with his humor and fun banter. And as usual his voice was perfect! I love every song he sings but was super disappointed that he didn't play Kiss Quick or Wedding Dress as previous reviewers said he did at their venues but then again he does spin the wheel of songs and it was just unlucky that it didn't fall on either of these two songs. Best song was Bill Murray (my favorite from the new album too) and he ended on it. I have seen Matt 4 times now, each time was great but I definitely loved the small venue and the acoustic aspect. I will never pass up an opportunity to see him live!

Matt Nathanson never disappoints. He's always very engaging with the audience and yet knows how to shut down anyone who's talking or drunkenness may be ruining the night for everyone else. His voice is as good as I first heard it nearly 20 years ago. I always look forward to his live shows. I would have given this concert 5 stars were it not for the venue. The Triple Rock remains the worst place to see a sold out show of any venue I've ever been to. If you aren't on the "lower" floor or on the rail seating, you can forget about seeing anything. I was standing by the entrance and watched the look of horror on people's faces as they entered the building to see there was no place to go. Add to that there is only one (obvious) way in and out of this place, I did fear for the safety of everyone in the room - especially when the door staff person left, leaving no one in the immediate vicinity to observe the room and come to aid of patrons if needed. I would be hard pressed to go back to Triple Rock for any show but specifically, a sold out one.

Matt Nathanson is one of those guys who could sing a college textbook and people would have it on repeat and melt at his beautiful voice. So if you like his songs or have seen him playing at clubs before, you kinda know what to expect... Except for the fact that this show is pure acoustic, he elevated the experience to the umpteenth power. He knows how to showcase his passion through each and every one of his songs, while at the same time keeping the audience amused and entertained by his outstanding sense of humor and care-free attitude. He is a great singer and musician, and furthermore, an amazing, humble and genuine human being.

I had seen Gavin DeGraw a number of times and once again he did not disappoint. I had not seen Matt Nathanson but WOW! He was great fun. I loved it! I would not hesitate to see another of his live shows in the future. In fact, I'll make sure I do!

Matt's set was too short while Gavin's didn't seem like it would end. It was very disappointing that Matt did not have an encore. Matt should've opened before Gavin since he didn't seem like he was the star of the event. I've been to at least a dozen Matt Nathanson shows and this one was my least favorite. The venue was gorgeous and the weather that night was perfect for an outdoor concert. Yet, I didn't enjoy Gavin DeGraw's performance (i.e., bad sound system, blinding strobe lights, and the set just wouldn't end!); if he performed with Matt again, I probably wouldn't get tickets.

Fantastic musicians!! Definitely an entertaining and enjoyable night!!! Gavin DeGraw was great. Only bad thing was his lighting show was really intense for the venue I was at. Because of the lack of floor seats, the seats went straight up into bleacher like seating directly in front of the stage so the lights going straight from the stage to the audience were blinding! This would not be an issue in a venue that had more floor seating and definitely wouldn't stop me from seeing the show again! Matt Nathanson is hilarious! Got everyone up and dancing! It was great! Definitely a fun must see show!

The Mann is such a great venue, good staff and well maintained. But the SOUND that night was so bad and no matter where we sat, it just sounded garbled and off. And we thought that Matt would open for Gavin and it was the other way around ...... Otherwise, I've been to other shows there that were fabulous. Just hope they know what the issue was with the sound and fix it.

All three acts did a great job engaging the crowd. Andrew McMahon was unfamiliar to me, but I'll be checking him out now. Gavin was great as always. It was my first time seeing Matt; he was fun and added stories to each song. It was a good show.

I came to the show for Matt, but both Matt and Gavin put on an amazing performance. I will definitely start listening to more of Gavin's music. Matt always adds a comedic aspect to his show and it makes it that much more entertaining.

This was the first time I had seen any of the acts. Matt Nathanson was a pleasant surprise in the fact that not only were the songs great, he was an entertainer for the crowd too. Funny and witty. I will definitely go see him again. Andrew McMahon was also a great opener. Surprisingly entertaining and energetic for a guy on the piano. i would recommend this concert to a friend.

Andrew McMahon was awesome, but unfortunately his set was much too short. Love that he is clearly enjoying making music anc that he is so accommodating to his fans! We had so much fun meetin him! Gavin DeGraw was fair; part of the problem was the poorly planned light show. He also overstayed his welcome on stage. Matt Nathanson was very entertaining. Not at all happy with being sold a seat that did not exist and having to sit in a folding chair. I am also unhappy with the fact that the same thing happened to the guy behind me and they moved him to the orchestra pit after he rudely complained to the ushers. I do joy believe that I was fairly treated when I was being more than accommodatig even though I was clearly ripped off.

Saw the Matt Nathanson/Gavin DeGraw show 7/27. Beautiful night on the water. nTelos is a great, intimate venue. Staff was accommodating, even though I saw two ladies try to rush the stage on several occasions. Matt Nathanson was engaging, funny and really put on a great show.

This was my first concert I took my 2 year old daughter to. The seats on the lawn provided a ton of room for her to run around. It was great.

Matt Nathanson was surprisingly hilarious and crowd friendly (gave his shirt to a kid in the crowd and ran into the crowd while singing). Overall, he was the best performer, but I would say that Andrew McMahon was the most talented. Gavin DeGraw kept the crowd interested, but his music was significantly louder than the others, so it was a bit unpleasant.

Both were great performers! I just wished the show had ended with Gavin Degraw. His name is more recognizable and he has more content. Matt Nathanson's songs are good I just found Gavin Degraw's to be more entertaining. He had less talking and more music. I saw several people leave after Gavin Degraw so I would guess he was the main draw.

The shows were great! Both Gavin Degraw and Matt Nathanson are amazing performers and it was a worthwhile show! However, the population of the attendees were a little unhinged.Very drunk ( this isn't that kind of show) and incredibly rude (screaming at me to sit down, talking very loudly during the music). Apparently people either need to get out more or a class on concert ettiquette!?!

The opening band I had not heard of but they sounded great and was a nice treat to listen to. Gavin was perfect, as I knew he would be. But by far the best part of the show was Matt Nathanson, in all my years I have never experienced such and entertaining musician. I didn't know who he was either, his music is awesome, in fact I later listened to his music on iTunes\u2026iTunes don't do his songs any justice as he sounds amazing LIVE! Thanks for the night of entertainment, it was my first in a long time, have 2 very young kids keeps me out of the loop sometimes! :)

Between Gavin's piano and beautiful voice and Matt' comedic nature and ability to interact with the crowd, this show was fantastic. Both are humble and love their audience. Great music and great performances.
